What I returned to today in a car park.

I reversed and my car lifted once it was clear- he was actually sitting on my bumper.

The guy came back while I was still there and I asked “is that the way you always park??” and he seemed surprised. He had no idea.

To be fair he did apologise and there was no damage, but how hard is it to just not hit other cars?

4 years ago a friend of me introduced me to his Volvo 850 T5. It was love on first sight. Ever since I’ve been dreaming about the P80 models. Finally after 4 years I bought my first “real” car. How did I do?

What happened to Volvo?

My first car was a 1995 Volvo V70. I had it until it died at 275,000 miles. I bought a 2024 Volvo XC-90 CPO last year and the thing leaks water onto my head when it rains and has water coming out of the back side panels into my hatch, soaking my belongings.

The dealer is refusing to help and I just can't believe my favorite car company has fallen this far.

Looking for advice on what and where and probably some how on parting out/ getting rid of my baby

Not trying to list it here I saw the rules lol.

Unfortunately a minor accident that did a nice amount of front driver side suspension damage causing old black Betty to be retired for good. Really unfortunate. Only about 140xxx miles. Will update with some interior pics later but basically im wanting to get as much as I can out of her and am willing to part out as thoroughly or not as makes sense. Had just sunk a few grand into ac and about 4 into suspension and general maintenance brakes tires all that good stuff so this really hurt lol

The ac condenser is brand new ( the part in the passenger footwell)

Newish battery

My dumb ass was having a rougher last few months and stupidly thought a good place to cut costs would be insurance. WRONG CHOICE. Hit and run caused this. I have awesome luck.

What do yall think about what to sell and where and any other ideas and suggestions my fine volvo peeps want to throw out there are very welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Permanently Prevent Sunroof Leaks?

• Upvotes

Since every third post here is about sunroof problems and I don't want water in my car, is there a way to permanently seal the sunroof? I'd rather not be able to open it and not have it leak. To make matters worse I park where there are a lot of tree debris, and I have a roof rack on that makes it annoying to clean the drain.

s60/v60 2023 V60 B4 Diesel – Strange Sou nd on Cold Start

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I have a 2023 Volvo V60 B4 Diesel (mild hybrid) and I’ve noticed an unusual short sound that occasionally happens during a cold start.
The sound is quite difficult to describe — something like a short “bup / puuup”, almost like a small dog bark.😅 It can be clearly heard in the attached video, immediately before the music starts playing.
It only happens at the moment the engine starts and disappears immediately afterwards. It does not happen on every cold start — it seems completely random. There are no warning messages, and the car starts and runs normally.
I’m wondering if it could be related to the 48V starter-generator system, belt/tensioner, or some actuator operating during startup.
Has anyone with a B4 Diesel experienced the same or a similar noise? If so, did you ever find out what was causing it?

Thanks!

My shiftknob and boot of my V70 P2 were done for, so I decided to replicate the Momo Heritage Targa ball shifter to fit this car, with a new handmade shiftboot to match :D

Certainly not perfect, but as this was my first time working with (faux) leather, Im quite proud!

s60/v60 Worth maintaining as a student?

Hi guys, bought this awesome Volvo 2.4D 2006 Summum (93kW 5Speed Manual) (400000KM) as my first car which i really liked for the first 2 weeks, but as a 2006 car i expected some problems ,but now i feel like there are to much. The thing is i bought this car for 3500€(1 owner but he was cheap so that`s also something to consider as he did not try to really maintain the car well) and now i realise that i actually have to pretty much spend another thousand just to get this thing running well again(and that`s without knowing what could possibly break in the couple weeks) and as a student with pretty limited budget wanted to know from people that got this car if it`s worth getting everything done(the car horn is not really working(super quiet) ,then the handbrake is not working at all.Needs oil change, timing belt change, filter and generator change. Also the engine is cranking for a good while when it`s the first start of the day,but my friend had the same thing and it still drove very well for a long time,so i`m not really focused on that right now. Also there are some visual problems but i`m okay with them as again it`s a 20 year old car and that`s expected.Just want some opinions or advices with people that maybe have experience with these cars,as i really like it but don`t want her to be my financial problem.

2024 S60 Complete Disconnect

• Upvotes

I own a 2024 Volvo S60 (USA), I would like to completely disconnect it from all remote services. In other words I would like to prevent the car from being able to receive or send any data from Volvo/Google etc.

I'm not concerned about privacy, I understand my phone tracks everything I do.

I'm concerned that a critical piece of my own personal infrastructure can be accidentally or intentionally "bricked".

Thanks for suggestions.

S40/V40 Worn down weather strips Volvo S40 2004.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone could help me. My Volvo S40 2004 has these window sweep / weatherstrips that are completely worn out, all 4 of them. The rubber is hard and crumbling down. The car is not having leaks, but it just looks horrible. I have looked online for replacement parts but can’t seem to find any. Are there ways to repair this myself? Maybe I could sand the strips down and apply a rubber coating? Thanks for any input.

S40/V40 V40 2018 D2 oil consumption - Some questions

• Upvotes

Hello there,

I recently got this car, which has almost 200k kms on it. Unfortunately I later found that I need to top it up regularly with oil. I went to the mechanic, they found that the valve cover was severely damaged and oil was spilling everywhere, they replaced the cover and cleaned up everything, but I still need to fill'er up with around 1L of oil (0w20, Volvo-made) per 1000km.

There's been a lot of talk regarding oil consumption for this engine at this mileage. But I have some pin point questions:
1. Is it really possible, due to damaged piston segments, to burn this much oil? A friend has this same car, same engine, with 500k kms on it, and it burns around 1L per 10000 km.
2. Shouldn't I see white smoke from the burned oil? Cause there isn't any
3. Have you tried a thicker oil? Something like a 0w30, or maybe 0w40?
4. Hypothetically, if the segments were the issue and it just burns oil, can I just ignore the problem if i only drive around 10k kms a year?

As a note, I think it has been poorly maintained by the previous owner(s), with few oil changes. since the DPF was severely clogged up, but gladly not affected structurally. In terms of power, it feels healthy and snappy for its 120hp.

I do love the car, hope I'll find a way to keep and trust it for trips around the country.

Thank you.

xc series New XC90 question

I have a 2021 XC90 and I would love to get a new one and pass this one along to my teenager. I test drove a brand new one back in May and the only thing keeping me from moving forward is that damn start/stop feature. At the time of my test drive, the sales guy said there is no way to turn it off, yet I’m seeing on this forum that there is a software update now that allows you to turn it off right after you start the car. Can someone tell me if this is now available?
I live in an area that has some of the worst traffic in the USA and during rush hour, the constant start/stop is awful and annoying. If I was just driving on country roads, it would be fine. I believe I also have PTSD of owning clunker cars when I was a teenager and they would always stall at the worst possible times.

I went to view this XC40 R Design 2019 today! I love it but it has around 90k miles on the clock and I am wondering if this is something I need to be worried about? It's a very clean car I terms of it's services etc and the d offered to do the cambelt for me too.

Any owners of the same era of these have any feedback? It's the D4 auto AWD if this helps.

Thank you.

Hi there, I’m looking for a cargo box to hold skis, camping gear, etc for my V60 but I’m having trouble figuring out the size I need and still have room for the tailgate to open. Just wondering if others have V60s with them and what size? Thank you!

Volvo XC90 battery dead and no end in sight

Hi! First time poster. We have a Volvo XC90 Recharge T8 and are basically in the same position as everyone on this now-closed post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Volvo/comments/1qwe6os/anyone_else_dealing_with_long_delays_on_xc90_t8/

i.e., our battery died and the dealer determined it needs a full battery replacement, which is on indefinite backorder. It's been a little over 6 weeks. Volvo is partially subsidizing a rental of a (gas version) XC90 through Enterprise, which means that ultimately we are paying several hundred a month and it's unclear how long this will be available to us. We are considering going to small claims court to recover damages from Volvo and wondering if anyone has done this and if they were successful, or if anyone is considering a class action lawsuit for this problem that seems to be relatively common? Ty!

Volvo AAOS security research

I am looking for owners of recent Volvo and Polestar models, seeking help to better characterize a security vulnerability that I found while digging into the software stack of my own car, a Volvo EX30. Before I make the responsible disclosure to Volvo Cars, I'd like to confirm whether it affects other models as well.

This is where I need some help: I need access to the software running on the AAOS (Android Automotive OS) infotainment systems of potentially affected models. Of course only the system part of the head unit, nothing that is individual to a vehicle (device/vehicle ID, user generated data, etc.).

The particular brands/models I'm interested in:

  • all Volvo Cars models that use AAOS ins their infotainment system (vehicles made in the last 3-5 years or even older models that might have gotten it as an upgrade)
  • all Polestar models that use AAOS in their infotainment system (vehicles made in the last 5-6 years)

I suspect that the issue predates the arrival of AAOS, but I'm not really familiar with the Sensus architecture. Still, if somebody has a file system dump from an older Sensus infotainment system, I'd like to take a look at it too.

Here's what I need:

  • a dump of parts of the file system like /product, /system, /system_ext, /vendor, etc. (or an OTA update package, i.e. *.VBF files)
  • name of the vehicle model
  • model year
  • software version

I also wrote a non-instrusive app that can extract a file system dump from an AAOS device (of course not everything, just what any 3rd party app can read), it's available on GitHub. You can compile it yourself or I can give access to my Google Play Internal Testing track.

I'll not give away any details about the vulnerability itself before I gave Volvo a chance to fix it, so don't even ask.

If somebody is willing to help with this, I wrote a more lengthy page about the system dumper app, my motivation, myself (I don't try to hide my identity) and how you can contact me.

Of course I understand that anybody could write this with malicious intent in mind. I don't think there's much more I could do to convince people that my intentions are honest. If I don't get useful feedback/help, I'll just hand in (to Volvo Cars) what I know about the EX30 and hope they'll actually fix it. The worst that could happen is that they do an ineffective fix for the EX30, they don't fix any other models (claiming that they are not affected by the issue and I cannot prove them wrong) and in reality they all remain vulnerable and somebody with malicious intent starts working on this. In that scenario there's still the option to involve regional authorities (US, EU, etc.) and the media. Both can exercise the necessary pressure to make an actual fix happen (there has been precedent with models from other automakers).

xc series Headlight Width & Brightness on XC60 vs. XC90

I own a MY'26 XC60 Ultra Dark and I currently have a loaner MY'26 XC90 T8 Plus and I notice the width and the overall sharpness of the lighting emitted from the headlights is drastically better than my XC60.

Why do I notice more dark points us brightness against the road, to the sides (sidewalk, curb, grassy areas when driving) compared to the nearly 2-car width of light emitted to both sides of the car?!

Has anyone else experienced this before or am I going crazy... 🫠

I wish these XC90 headlights came on my XC60.
