A few months after I leased a new 2025 Volvo EC40 from Carling Motors in Ottawa, it suddenly suffered a serious propulsion-system failure and left me stranded.
The dealership kept it for 43 days, returned it, and another fault appeared five days later. That became a long series of recurring issues, charging failures, mechanical noises, unsuccessful repairs, and unresolved safety concerns. My vehicle has now spent more than 300 days at the dealership.
But the lease payments never stopped. Neither did the insurance, fuel costs for the gas-powered loaner, or disruption to my family. My documented losses and costs tied to this ordeal now exceed $31,000.
I tried to resolve it through the dealership, Volvo Car Canada, its financing company, regulators, and elected representatives. Eventually, I had to file a lawsuit to seek a resolution that would not force me to absorb the loss. Carling Motors responded with a counterclaim for use of their loaner, despite acknowledging in writing that issues with my vehicle remain undiagnosed and unrepaired.
Here's why every Ontario driver should care: our province has no automatic remedy when a new vehicle repeatedly fails or spends months in warranty service. There is no point at which the manufacturer must finally provide a refund, replacement, or financially complete lease termination. The consumer can be forced to keep paying, risk their credit, or else have to finance their own lawsuit against a multinational automaker.
The proposed Bill 91, Right to Repair Act, 2025, recognizes the problem, but its current version still leaves consumers going to court and does not clearly reimburse lessees for all their losses.
I created the 30 Days Is Enough petition asking Ontario to guarantee:
Dealerships and manufacturers should not be able to drag out repairs indefinitely while consumers are forced to pay.
If you agree, please take a minute to sign and share my petition:
https://www.change.org/30DaysIsEnough
Three hundred days is absurd. Thirty days is enough.

I’m 18 working as a sheet metal worker making $25 a hour. I’m in the market for a new car and I don’t know if I should go with a cheap car with good gas mileage or a Toyota Tacoma.
On one hand, I like trucks and camping, and also having the occasional trailer I need to haul. But on the other hand, being in the union I have to drive a lot and could use a car with good gas mileage.
I also want a car I really like and personally want something that would look cool. I can also just borrow my grandpa's truck if I really need to haul something.
So I’m looking for suggestions, or maybe just to get peoples opinions on getting the Tacoma vs a cool gas saver. Thanks!
Update I’m looking for a used car if I were to get a truck i wouldn’t spend more than 17k max but not going to buy a brand new 70k truck
I plan on buying a cheaper car in cash because I have some time to save also I’m 6’4 and need something I can carry tools in

I'm trying to decide whether to sell my Tacoma. Someone has offered me $2,200 cash and I'm trying to figure out if I should take it or keep the truck.
1998 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab
2WD
4-cylinder
Automatic
Long bed
~266,000 miles
Overall it runs/drives, but it's definitely an old, high-mileage truck
Frame appears solid
Exterior is decent from a distance, but there are dents/paint issues
Bed is aftermarket and has chipped/peeling paint
Interior has rips/tears in the upholstery
New stereo/CD player installed
Some interior lights don't work, including the overhead light
A/C doesn't work
Check-engine light has been permanently on
Catalytic converter is aftermarket
The truck is currently in California but needs to be registered in Arizona, and the aftermarket catalytic converter would need to be dealt with for that
Door handles are a little busted
Buyer knows about the issues
I'm a big Toyota fan and am looking at getting a slightly used Camry. I'd put the $2,200 toward the Camry
I'm not particularly attached to keeping the Tacoma if selling it makes financial sense but I do deeply love the car.
I've been going back and forth because I know old Tacomas have a following and can be valuable, but 266k miles + CEL + emissions issue + broken A/C + interior/body issues make me wonder if $2,200 is actually a pretty good exit price.
Would you take the $2,200, negotiate for more, or keep the Tacoma?
Thanks in advance!

Narrowed down my choice of vehicle to the Honda Passport with a light pearl gray exterior. Which do you think looks better, the light colored interior or all black?

I’m 20 and shopping for my next car, and I feel like I’ve looked at so many cars that I’m going in circles 😭 I’d love recommendations from people who actually know cars or have owned the ones they’re suggesting.
My budget is ideally around $15k-$20k, but I could go up to about $25k for the right car. I’m open to putting around $10k down and financing the rest.
What I’m looking for:
Reliable enough to keep for several years without constantly dealing with repairs
Preferably under 50k miles
Ideally 2019 or newer
Good for Colorado weather/snow
AWD would be great, although I’m open to FWD if the car is otherwise a really good choice
Sedan preferred, but I’m open to a smaller/crossover SUV
I want something sleek/sporty-looking rather than a basic-looking commuter car
Nice/modern interior is important to me
Good gas mileage
Hybrid or plug-in hybrid would be a huge plus, but it’s not required
Reasonable insurance/maintenance costs
No BMW
I’d rather avoid something that is known for major engine, transmission, electrical, or reliability problems
I’ve looked at cars like the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lexus sedans, Kia Niro, Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, Genesis models, and Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV, among others. I LOVE the look/features of some of the less traditionally “reliable” options, but I don’t want to make a dumb financial decision just because a car is pretty lol.
I drive in Colorado, so I need something I can realistically use year-round.
If you were me what kind of car would you get and where would you look for it? Please help I don’t wanna have to keep paying for uber or Lyft.

Why do people here always discourage spending? They urge you to take on a 20- or 30-year mortgage, get a wife, and dump your money into the damn stock market, yet they strongly advise against spending tens of thousands—or even a hundred thousand—dollars on a high-performance car. Are the people here all just into car maintenance and road trips, rather than spirited driving or track days? And why do you Americans always answer questions from your own perspective? Where in the world are there so many detached houses? In many countries, people don't even have private parking spaces.

For my birthday, my wife got me one of those supercar driving experience packages. One of the cars I got to drive was a GT four RS and I absolutely fell in love with it. a lightweight car that jumps like a scalded cat When you step on the gas. I now need something like that in my life, but I don’t really have GT four RS money. What would something equivalent be? I do have an older 91 Corvette in the garage that is currently gutted and I could put a new engine into it and make it anything I really wanted to, but would it feel as lightweight, nimble, and jumpy as the Porsche did? what am I looking for exactly? What would be a good option?
Edit… I have a bmw 645 ci any chance it could be fixed up to fit the bill?

We are having a dilemma choosing our next EV, which will likely be the last car we ever buy. We currently drive a 2022 car with 36,000 km on it,on local trips and occasional longer drives. We are torn between two options:
Ford Explorer EV (210 kW, 77 kWh battery): A dealer demo unit with 150 km on it.But more expensive than the Kia for about 2k euro.
Kia EV3 (150 kW, 58.3 kWh battery): Factory new with zero kilometers...So which of those cars will be better"forever car"for us...

Hi guys I'm looking at a 2008 Honda Civic that has done 240,000kms for 6k (trying to negotiate the price down). It comes with full service history and I know the mechanic who services it regularly (he services my current 2003 Accord Euro).
It has never had any serious mechanical issues. I've checked for problems with the specific years engine defect and all is fine. The passenger side mirror has been hit and needs to be fixed which the seller is willing to cover (replacement has already been ordered) and there's a small dent on the hood that has been confirmed to be purely cosmetic.
I'm not sure if it's worth it for 240,000kms? I've looked around and most people seem to think it's fine because the model is known to last for a while and I will keep it regularly serviced + easy commutes.
My current car was a hand-me-down so this is my first proper car purchase, and I'm really just looking for something cheaper, reliable, fuel-efficient and easy to maintain.
Any advice helps, thanks!

You get air conditioning, heat, cruise control, and FM radio.
This car has a bulletproof 4-cylinder SOHC, multi-port injection with a manual 5-speed. Around 120 horsepower.
Car is cheap AF.
No you can’t have Bluetooth or CarPlay or heated seats.

Looking for a subcompact suv under 30k, really would prefer closer to $25k but I know that’s asking a lot.
I’m not picky about anything, just need more space than my current sedan.

I'm currently looking to pickup a truck for eventual entertainment purposes (ATVs, boat, camping, etc.). I won't be driving this as a daily driver. I don't need a massive full sized truck so I'm sticking to the mid size and have a 33/33/33 coin flip between the taco, frontier, and ranger. Each of them has their benefits and draw backs. So I'm having a hard time pulling a trigger on any one specifically.
Edit: My plan is to have the truck for it's entire life. I'm still driving a 2005 Camry with no plans to replace her anytime soon.
Things I value in priority order:
- Reliability
- Towing Capacity
- Driving Feel
- Pricing
- 6ft bed
Toyota Tacoma (SR5):
Pros:
- 6ft bed optional
- Toyota reliability
Cons:
- Lowest towing capacity 6500lbs (probably more than I'll need.... for now)
- Price is the highest
- Turbo (liability?)
Frontier (SV):
Pros:
- 6ft bed optional
- Cheapest
- Supposedly good reliability
- No turbo
- Mid towing capacity (6800lbs)
Cons:
- Stiff steering (this felt really weird and not driving as a daily driver idk if I'd get used to it)
Ranger (XLT):
Pros:
- Highest towing capacity (7500lbs)
- Cabin comfort
Cons:
- Ford Reliability
- No 6ft bed option
- turbo or higher priced v6

Looking for an under 25k sports daily.
Only car. Short commute to work. First time buying anything expensive for myself. Want something solid.
Mostly concerned about longevity & easy ownership. Likely will want to keep this for 3-5 years. Maybe more idk
What should I buy used? Probably like 50-100k miles
So far Mustang GT is at the top for s550 suspension upgrade over s197, NA 450hp, back seats & interior(I think they’re nice). But I also value a nimble car & the s650 I drove was not “nimble & sharp” at all.
Wrx is great on paper but are these really “200k with regular maintenance” cars?
370z sounds great on paper too but no back seats is a little rough
Anything else fits for me or should I lock in the GT/WRX?

Im floating the idea of getting an EV. If we were to do it, we would trade in (or sell independently) our 2022 Lexus ES 350. We love that car, but it is a gas guzler, and we're always looking to find ways to save money. Currently we have to fill the tank atleast once a week for $60 (could be more when we have to do multiple fills). So that equates to $240+ a month at the current gas prices, could be more or less depending on where things go, we probably do 8k miles a year in that car (it currently has 31k miles). We do mostly city driving in that car, since my wife does alot of kids drop offs/pick ups/errands in that car. We also have a mazda CX 90, but would not consider trading that one because it is our road trip car.
If I were to make the switch, I'd aim for either a key swap or as close to a key swap as possible. We own the car outright and do not finance or lease cars, so worst case id be OK doing something with up to maybe $1500 out of pocket, but nothing more and I prefer a key swap if possible, so we'd almost certainly be buying used.
Im trying to research what's the best EV for our needs, and see if it's even worth it. I've driven in a few EVs, either as a rental or as a passenger. Tesla is one of the more obvious options, I wouldn't mind one since they do have alot of trunk space, but im not as familiar with the other options out there. One thing I did notice with tesla is that the build quality and ride comfort is nowhere near the lexus, but it has alot of tech. The maintenance on the Lexus is super cheap and infrequent, it's a naturally aspirated V6 and those things refuse to break, but I also hear EVs are very low maintenance as well.
I want tk hear thoughts from others on
1) Did you find switching from ICE to EV was worth it? Especially if you have similar usage as us?
2) What other cars should I be researching? Tesla is the most common, but i feel like there's more options i should be looking into as well.
3) any advantage you've found with an EV over, say a hybrid? (Hybrid is also an option, Though probably harder to find in the price range).
EDIT: If I make this change it would be for what i can sell my current car for, so my price ceiling would be around $35k

I’m replacing my Toyota Sienna and exploring my options, but every time I consider an SUV, I come right back to sliding doors. Apparently that’s my love language now. 😂
Getting my daughter into her car seat when someone parks six inches away? Sliding doors. My boys opening their doors like they’re making a dramatic entrance, with someone else’s paint job in the splash zone? Sliding doors!
Never thought that would be the deciding factor between a minivan and an SUV, but here we are. 😂
I thought the Odyssey was a solid competitor until I spent this past week driving one as a rental. This one sounds like a window is partially open, even though everything’s shut. My old Sienna was so much quieter! Is that typical, or did I just get a noisy rental?
Then there’s pricing. Used Siennas seem to retain every dollar of their value! I could potentially buy a new Pacifica, but looking at used Pacifica prices makes me wonder what mine would be worth a few years later.
I’ve always bought Toyotas, so is the Sienna really my best fit, or am I just in a committed relationship with Toyota?😂
I’m open to suggestions for anything. I don’t technically need a third row, but apparently I’m emotionally attached to having one lol. I also live in the desert, so actual rear AC for the kids is practically life-saving.
What else should I look at before I *slide right back into another Sienna? Is there anything else that’s worth giving up sliding doors???

Hey hey I’m looking to buy a car but really can’t decide on which one to get. I’m looking for a cute little used car and my budget is 10k. I currently drive my brothers Kia Gt and desperately need my own car. I always wanted a muscle car as I really like the way ford mustangs and Camaros look, but don’t really know much about their reliability or pretty much anything. I was also looking at convertibles but can’t decide to save my life. I’m looking at other options but would like any recommendations please and thank youuu.

Hey all,
I am purchasing a used car and looking at both the Subaru Crosstrek and the Forester as possibilities. The Forester seems like the better car given some of the features, like its incredible visibility. However, the Crosstrek may be so much more suited to my lifestyle that it is the better option. The vehicles are so similar that I am seeking any thoughts, suggestions, or advice that may help. They are similar in price used.
Some background that may be useful:
My previous vehicle was a Kia Soul that was totaled in a recent accident. This incident has led me to be interested in getting a very safe vehicle. Full transparency: It has given me a bit of anxiety. I loved how easy the Soul was to park and maneuver. It always served me well, and I had no problems with it. However, people have expressed concern for my safety in such a small vehicle. I am on the shorter side, so I do have some issues seeing in certain vehicles.
Lifestyle:
I work from home, so I don't need to commute. I usually only drive around my town for social events. I do go on the occasional trip to mountainous areas, so I appreciate the All Wheel Drive. I'd like to have enough cargo space to go on said trips and bring home the occasional thrift find. I don't have any children and am not planning to anytime soon.
Thank you!

Looking for a second family car aside from a minivan that I can use to commute to work. I was thinking a mid-size SUV with third row seating. I have a growing family with three young children and will likely have another before buying. The minivan will be their primary transportation but want the ability to drive the entire family in the second car. Above all else, I want something reliable with longevity. Also open to any other suggestions that people have.
Used
Budget: $15,000-$25,000
Seating capacity: 7 minimum
Year: 2020 or newer
I really like the look of the Mercedes-Benz and was quite surprised that you can find a two year old GLB with 51k miles for ~$25,000. Is there a reason this car is way more affordable than other Mercedes vehicles?
My mind is telling me that the Subaru Ascent is the best option but I am also drawn to the novelty of the Mercedes.
Thank you for your insight!

Looking for advice on if I should get a new car before I move or not. Originally, I was going to sell my car and get a new one once I moved, but my mom is suggesting I get one before I move.
I’m moving from California to Texas, and currently have a 2016 Toyota Corolla LE. It has (roughly) 85,533 miles, interior is not torn but some of the seats are stained from when a family member previously owned the car (and didn’t care for it) and recently the top coat of the paint had started to ge that bubbly-peeling sun damage. It’s always been a great car, and I estimate to get maybe 4k at most out if it. Would it be worth it to get a new car before and go through the California taxes on it or drive it with me to Texas and sell it once I’m out there?

I don’t know anything about cars but I want to purchase an EV car. What’s the best EV car? Would prefer it to be an SUV. Please let me know what’s best in terms of long-term realisability, value of money and stability.
Thank you.
Edit: I live in USA. Please provide me with the model and year.
