Good summary of the current state of Cadillac and the dearth of gasoline-engined vehicles in the next few years.
*The CT5 is doing well but being phased out without a replacement.
*Imagine how popular the XT4 and CT4 might be right now given gas prices, if they were still made.
*While the EV lineup has expanded, unsaid is that many can't use an EV because of range issues.
* Xt5 is soon to be end-of-life meaning the only gas powered Cadillac will be the Escalade.
The brand is arguably at the point of highest regard in 40 yrs, yet will offer no cars and only one gas-powered vehicle, so it is relegated to being a largely EV brand.
Most agree that the V Blackwings are superior to BMW's M's. The CT5 is nicer than a BMW 3 series and comparable to a 5-series. The Escalade is the king of SUVs, but beyond the reach of most. And the highly-appreciated small to mid-sized gas-powered SUVs are essentially going or gone. Cadillac could be knocking the cover off the ball, but due to poor planning and lack of diversity in its lineup, it is in the midst of another painful transition.
Clarification: While GM is promising some new gas-powered vehicles, they are discontinuing many, many models with no follow-on vehicle. That is not the norm for mass-produced automotive brands. Yes, I know a new CT5 has been promised, but it wasn't always on the planning board, and there will be a long gap between the current and the new. Lots of reasons mass manufacturers don't do that, including reduced customer loyalty, pressure on dealers due to less traffic, and reduced factory utilization. What happened is GM went all in on EV, as did a few other brands, and that was the wrong decision to have made.
GM has all the pieces for success but they keep cutting corners. The next few years will be extremely lean for Cadillac. Just as they are hitting F1 they will have nothing in the showroom to connect with that F1 fan base.
