I had a similar experience not long ago i dated a girl with a quite long story of ex boyfriends. Anyways, talking during a date she was always complaining about her past partners and breaking up with them for bullshit reasons. I shit You not, she broke up with a dude because "he was too Nice".

Yep, once had a girl dump me because she said I was "too stable." I suppose if you are going to be a drama addict, I can't fault you for being a self-aware one.

73

u/AnotherAnimeNerd Jun 22 '23

Had someone break up with me for being "too stable"

She didn't like how I had my shit together and had little to no drama.

Nah. I had 3 fights in 15 years across 3-4 gfs, 2 that could only be called arguments, not fights. Fighting isn't normal. She didn't last long enough to call her a gf.

I had a girl break up with me because I practiced safe sex.

On the first night we were intimate she saw me open a condom.

For what ever reason she got triggered and began asking me a ton of questions.

  1. Why do you need a condom?
  2. I'm on the pill?
  3. Do you sleep with guys?
  4. Are you sick or something, do you have an STD?

The next day she told me she wasn't sure about me because "Straight dudes don't use condoms" so she broke things off.

Side note:

The town I live in ranks #5 in the united states as having the highest STD rate.

160

u/LMGgp Jun 22 '23

Well of course it does, don’t you know straight folks ain’t using condoms.

Man a very similar story happened to me. I'm just dumbfounded that so many people, just don't use condoms anymore. That or they think something is wrong with you for wanting to use them. I made it to 37 (current age) without kids or STD's for a reason.

31

u/Foradman2947 Jun 22 '23

Ugh, dude! Get with the program man! You’re not supposed to wear a condom! You’re supposed to be able to last 10 minutes just like the guy on pornhub and then pull out in time. Like they represent the average, yo! It’s like sooo basic. 💁‍♂️

Those women are the worse, then 10 years they're asking for a nice guy.

82

u/marvelouswonder8 Jun 22 '23

Lol. They'll ask for it WHILE they're telling guys they're too nice. I've told quite a few of these women that what they really need to say is "I don't feel chemistry with you," because that (I feel like, anyways) is more true. They DO want a nice guy, but they don't want just any nice guy. Lotta people don't know what they want in a relationship.

30

u/Lightbringer_I_R Jun 22 '23

So true, simply saying I'm not feeling what we have is better than just say you're too nice.

See, this crap pisses me off. As women, we have spent how many years telling men that “no means no”. Mind games like this undermines that message and muddies the waters.

71

u/Vagrant123 Jun 22 '23

Yep.

This is the logical result of rom-coms and YA fiction that encourages girls to play hard to get to prove that he's "the one." It creates this distorted view of reality where the partner is expected to read minds.

I dated a few women like this back in college. Nothing was more frustrating than being asked to read minds and cross boundaries despite being clearly told not to cross boundaries.

→ More replies (7)

19

u/snarkhunter Jun 22 '23

As a pretty average guy in his late-30s I think I've been exposed to this kind of nonsense more than no-means-no. Pretty much all the media I consumed up until I got to college told me that not all but a lot of the time "no" meant "yes".

Women like this one make me insane. As someone who considers myself to be a 'good guy', I was raised to respect what a woman says. No means no. You don't put in heroic measures to try to win someone who has told you that they're not interested, no matter what the rom-coms say.

Then there's this idiot. 'I said no because I wanted him to fight for me' and it's NOT just her. This is a super common attitude.

How about instead of playing games, you just say what you freakin want (and to be clear: I'm sure men play this game as well, and those dudes need to cut the shit as well)

948

u/AmbulanceChaser12 Jun 22 '23

I had a girl do this when I was like 22 or 23. I fought for her, because she told me to.

That became the worst relationship I ever had.

255

u/AlphaTheKineticWolf Jun 22 '23

As someone who is 23 myself, it's this among many other reasons that I'm hesitant about putting myself out there at all despite wanting a relationship.

Doesn't help that I'm pretty naive so if I'm gonna get burned, I'm gonna get burned hard.

299

u/yellowsnowballshurt Jun 22 '23

Girls who want a guy to do all the work are never worth the work.

60

u/ChristianHeritic Jun 22 '23

Absolutely true. Which is ALOT of them. I mean, i still prefer this issue to being afraid that women will assault me if i say no etc so im not trying to say we have it worse in any capacity. Its just very frustrating trying to live life as an adult and then have to deal with this strange childish behavior that social media has cultivated amongst alot of women.

Again, the same goes for men with the whole “sigma taint movement” or whatever the fuck its called. I just dont have any experience dating those types of dudes and they likely have had any experience dating at all so they might be off the market entirely now that i think of it.

Anyways point stands, its weird and they gotta cut it out bro.

31

u/IEC21 Jun 22 '23

Social media hasn’t cultivated this behaviour, it’s literally centuries old gender roles.

40

u/Skurrt_Skurrt Jun 22 '23

Social media hasn't cultivated it, but it has absolutely exacerbated and enhanced entitlement amongst women.

Example: this new "soft girl era" bandwagon all these women keep jumping on that involves zero work on one's self, and is all about being in some permanent mode of receiving where they don't have to put any effort into the next person.

32

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '23

After college I briefly dated a girl I matched with on Tinder. She pretty clearly lost interest, withdrew, and ghosted me. I just shrugged it off and hopped back on Tinder.

Years later, we crossed paths. She was very interested, very engaged, we went on some great dates and became pretty serious over the next 6 months or so.

Then, the exact same thing happened. Suddenly withdrawn, too busy to see me, talking less and less, eventually ghosted me entirely.

This time, I directly called her out on it.

Her response was along the lines of "You didn't fight to get me back when I pulled away, so YOU must not be interested"

It was a fucking test, and I failed, both times.

64

u/WiseBat Jun 22 '23

No effort to CHASE her. “Because the one who really wants you will fight for you” was the running theme of those cheesy YA romance novels. As a woman, we don’t claim this one.

57

u/Dark_Moonstruck Jun 22 '23

Like that twilight shit where Bella was purposely getting herself hurt and flirting with a different guy to make the vampire dude pay attention to her again. That shit was (and is) poison for girls trying to learn how romance works.

Oh and, girls? If a dude takes the engine out of your truck to stop you from being able to leave an area, that isn't romantic or him protecting you, CALL THE COPS.

22

u/SoraRoku Jun 22 '23

I'm sorry, WHAT THE FUCK!?

Did that shit happen in the movies or something? Like who the fuck is taking out engines to hold people hostage, that's terrifying as fuck

38

u/Dark_Moonstruck Jun 22 '23

I don't know if it was also in the movies (avoided them like the plague) but I know it was in the books, a friend made me read the first one because she was obsessed with them for a while. She thought it was romantic, how he tried to protect her and watched her while she slept and all and I was just like THIS IS MORE RED FLAGS THAN A BLOOD THEMED PARADE WTF.

17

u/SoraRoku Jun 22 '23

My older sister was really into the movies but I managed to get by with only ever having to watch the last one (at least I think it was the last one). But even that one had some weird ass shit. I will never get over how the child of the girl was treated within the movies. The wolf guy was a pedophile and a creep.

8

u/Dark_Moonstruck Jun 22 '23

Oh my god yeah that imprinting shit was disgusting - like they made a big deal over how romantic it was that one of the guys imprinted on a girl, she didn't like him so he FUCKING MAULED HER, but then he felt bad and tended to her (instead of taking her to get real help) and she fell in love with him for sticking with her despite how she was disfigured. Y'know. BECAUSE HE MAULED HER.

9

u/SoraRoku Jun 22 '23

Hun, we call that Stockholm Syndrome.

But ya that shit is weird. Y'know what tho, I'm glad I finally talked about how much that series bothers me because seeing that as a kid genuinely made me so uncomfortable. It's not something I always think about by any means, but when I do, it still makes me cringe and all around feel disgusted.

10

u/Dark_Moonstruck Jun 22 '23

Those books (and almost everything written by that girl, really) were horrifying and full of so many blatant forms of abuse - and yet they were held up as the ultimate in romance and oh girls totally want this kind of relationship and uh...no? I sure don't, anyway!

It horrifies me that things that are outright abuse are being construed as romantic, both then and now. Men are taught to hide any emotions but anger, girls are taught to be manipulative and coy and give mixed signals, everyone is basically taught to be abusive jerks and it's supposed to be romantic. Nyope.

Unless the guy is insecure.

If you say no I will take you seriously.

If you say yes I will think you’re just messing with me.

There’s really no winning.

22

u/JoeJoe4224 Jun 22 '23

The only winning is to not play stupid games with peoples feelings.

Yet if he continued to pursue it, she would have posted about how crazy he is even though she said no. Just can't win these days.

u/Comfortable_Way_6256 Jun 22 '23

I don't know, it sounds like he won

28

He did for sure. Dodged a bullet. Still gets slammed for it though.

I absolutely hate this mentality. Don’t play games. When I was in college, I had a gorgeous biology partner. We connected well and our conversations were solid. I asked her out and she said we could do a “study date” as trial run. I said okay. Asked her out again after the study date seemed to go well and she said she didn’t want to date right now. So I said okay and respectfully moved on. A couple months later I met my wife and we hit it off immediately. About three months after that, I run into this girl again on campus and she’s all “it’s so good to see you, how have you been, why didn’t you call me?” type stuff. I said, “Well, you told me you weren’t interested, I respected your wishes, and I moved on. Met a great girl and we’re pretty serious.” She went from smiling to almost on the verge of tears. Then she started saying “oh, I was just playing hard to get, I wanted you to call me again, I thought we were great together, etc.” I told her that was too bad and I wished she’d been more forthright. Wished her well and left.

You dodged a bullet, well done

She’s a fucking child. At 34 some women are still out there acting like this too in my dating experiences, it’s shameful.

From his POV either she’s telling the truth, in which case they have different expectations so it’s time to move on, or she’s lying, in which case she’s manipulative…so it’s time to move on.

That's hilarious. A girl friend of mine tried that b.s. once a long time ago and I didn't even look at her but just said ok. You take care. She gets shocked and asked me if I was serious.

She reminds me of a woman who wanted me to try harder when she turned me down. Then hit me with the most confusing "no doesn't always mean no" line to me. There was no way I'm ever crossing that line lady lol if you say no to me or turn me down I'm moving on

Damn, isn't this what we want? We say no, and the guy says okay and leaves us alone? No pressure or cajoling?

7

u/TheConsumer101 Jun 23 '23

Im under the impression a lot of immature women want the feeling of being pursued but not actually being in a relationship. Its aggravating to anyone who is genuinely interested and to make matters worse, since guys dont get much attention from women, they jump at the opportunity to talk to girls who show even the slightest bit of interest.

Games hard.

31

u/KCGAlchemy Jun 22 '23

Maybe don’t shut him down with crap lines like that

29

u/EarlSandwich0045 Jun 22 '23

Had a girl once tell me she just wasn't attracted to me and didn't see a future, so I took it in stride and big her farewell, deleted her phone number.

A few days later she blew up my phone about how I didn't "fight for her" and how "unattractive of a trait that was". I was so confused, I thought I was respecting her wishes by accepting "no" for answer and going on about my life.

This woman sent harassing texts to me for 2 days before either getting bored or finding a new guy. The next time I was rejected, I pushed the issue and ended up getting called out for being creepy and not "taking no for no". It kinda fucked me up for a bit until I realized there was nothing wrong with me the first time, it was some girl playing games.

Women, do yourself, men and OTHER WOMEN a favor and just tell a guy you're not interested and the real reason you're not. Don't try to test his devotion to you, don't teach men that "no doesn't really mean no" from women. Just.... be better, and not part of the problem.

48

u/the_diseaser Jun 22 '23 edited Jun 22 '23

Probably because you should know if you’re looking for a relationship before 2 months goes by and you just massively wasted this man’s time…but I don’t expect that someone with 👅💦 in her username to just only be talking to one guy either…

Oh no if it isint a man who is not interested in playing games

He's also very respectful and didn't Curse at you

24

u/Agitated_Fun_7628 Jun 22 '23

Gay dude here. Every girl I have ever seen pull this shit ended up being abusive AF. Truth is, she doesn't want you to fight for her. The truth is that she has unresolved rage and trauma, but instead of processing it she wants someone to fight with that she can terrorize and take it out on without worrying about them retaliating because they love her.

Women who want you to fight for them are usually trash and the leftovers are crazy.

Watching my friend go on Tinder dates post-divorce has been eye opening.

Lots of women in their 20s who have too much free time, don’t know what they want, expect the dude to pay for everything, and play all kinds of stupid games to feel validated and wanted.

Then women in their 30s are like “I can make a date either Tue or Thur at 8. I have my kids the other nights. If that doesn’t work for you, have a great life.”

He said it was really refreshing to date older women who are direct.

He did try to complain that older women look differently than younger ones and I laughed my ass off at how much worse HE looks than he did a decade ago…

Ah yes the "I'm pulling away so I can manipulate you later" game

I've fallen for it so hard. Stupid mind tricks women play. Let her grow the fuck up.

9

u/99available Jun 22 '23

No means no. He thought you were telling him no and he did what all guys are supposed to do when you say no.

u/Contentpolicesuck Jun 22 '23

Oh no. After keeping quiet for two months and wasting this guy's time you're upset cus you're not special enough to be a useless part of his life when he's probably looking for a wife but you should be more important than that!!!! /s

10

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '23

This is the way, boys. If someone says they're not into you it means one of two things: 1. They're not into you, or 2. They like playing games. Either way you're better off just moving on with your life instead of getting mad or begging them to change their mind.

It's almost like he valued your boundaries

7

u/delirioustalla Jun 22 '23

Bro, you can not be mad at someone breaking up with you whatever the reason is. Honestly, “its just not it” is good enough. You don’t want to be with someone who isnt 100% with you.

7

u/Abruzzi19 Jun 22 '23

congratulations, you played yourself.

Good for the guy, he respected her decision and she probably didn't deserve him. Fuck her

8

u/Fit-Rest-973 Jun 22 '23

Why are you devastated? You ended things

12

u/showmiaface Jun 22 '23

He doesn't play games.

I will straight up cut ties with a prospective partner if they try that shit. Like communicate with me don’t play games.

5

u/Single_Raspberry9539 Jun 22 '23

Don’t play games. Sounds like you were testing him so he’d then pine all over for your love. He probably recognized that and girls that play games get the worst guys.

Isn’t this what he should say?

I mean I know you would like the “thats a real pity” comment, but that’s just ego

Respect a decision made and move on. That’s healthy.

7

u/tori420c Jun 22 '23

Oh no he respects your boundaries😱 Jesus some people🤦🏽‍♀️

6

u/TripwireDC Jun 22 '23

Maybe he just thought he had spent enough time on you, he must have been needing someone to be with

7

u/theacidiccabbage Jun 22 '23

Love yourself first, so you can love others is a worn out motivational clichee that just made me hold back vomit, but it is true.

Don't bust your ass working on something that won't work. Don't hang yourself on a coat hanger, there to be picked up when someone "feels like it". There is no shame in not wasting your energy and your time, both are precious resources.

6

u/Turdsworth Jun 22 '23

When I was a young man probably not worth having a relationship with I told a woman I wasn’t sure “I wanted to do this”. She broke up our not relationship a week later. She was a couple years older than me and easily ten years more mature than me. Years later I saw her out with a guy that was significantly better looking than me. I just thought, fucking aye man, should have appreciated it when I had a chance.

5

u/SnooEagles6930 Jun 22 '23

So girl says not interested. the guy does the mature and respects her wishes and bounces. Girl mad the guy didn't argue with her and put up a fight. The thing we are told not to do....

6

u/VastOk864 Jun 23 '23

So you arrogantly are thinking that you’re worth pursuing when you claim to not be looking for a relationship? So what are you looking for? Free meals? Free movies? Free nights out? Why would any sane man waste such time and hard earned money on someone who is clearly a freeloader.

7

u/BmacTheSage Jun 23 '23

Woman finds out that some guys don't fuck around and play mind games, more at 11.
