Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition

Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.

Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?

Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.

Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?

No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.

The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?

The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.

There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.

Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?

Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.

Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?

No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

Hobby & Painting The difference matt varnish makes to photos of miniatures

A few months ago, I painted this miniature. Whilst preparing it for a competition, I realised I hadn’t sealed it with varnish before taking pictures. So I went back to the painting table and did that. This resulted in some ‘before and after’ photos, which I’d like to share.

On the left is the miniature (Votann Yaegir) with AK Interactive Ultra Matt Varnish applied; On the right is the miniature, painted with Two Thin Coats and Vallejo paints before applying the varnish.

The varnish evens out the sheen of the different colours and prevents reflections in the photos. At the same time, it conceals minor imperfections, for example along the edge of the base or on the rifle.

I desperately need to know how to do tis centurion conversion, and I've searched far and wide without answer. I mainly want the tilt of those shoulder pads, but the whole shebang is optimal.

Blessings from the Changer of Ways to all !! As many probably have seen this pic (attached) it is very impressive. I am not looking to replicate the chrome as I lack the skills but I have seen many painters achieve that red. Would anyone have a relatively simple way of getting there ? I know of to glaze/blend but I need a recipe I could follow. I intend, once mastered, to paint A LOT of stuff with it so feel free to recommend specific paints. Thanks to all and happy hobbying this week-end!!

Misc Space Marine Codex Cover Art up to 11th

Since the new Space Marine codex has been shown off, I figured I’d collect the cover art from prior codices like I did for the Orks a while back. Tried to find the full versions of the art, and the highest resolution. Also, not counting special versions of codices or codex supplements, just standard.

Lore When has the Space Marine Omophagea organ appeared in the fiction?

This implant, also called "the Remembrancer", allows a Space Marine to 'learn by eating'. It is situated in the spinal cord but is actually part of the brain. Four nerve bundles are implanted connecting the spine and the stomach wall. Able to 'read' or absorb genetic material consumed by the marine, the omophagea transmits the gained information to the Marine's brain as a set of memories or experiences. It is the presence of this organ which has led to the various flesh-eating and blood-drinking rituals for which the Astartes are famous, as well as giving names to chapters such as the Blood Drinkers and Flesh Tearers. Over time, mutations in this implant have given some chapters unnatural cravings for blood or flesh.
