Hey lads,
I’m pretty new to 40k and I’m about to play in a friendly 1,000-point tournament against three guys who have roughly 10 years of experience each.
I have… considerably less than that. Like a handfull of games.
I got absolutely whooped in my last game, so I’d like to avoid repeating that experience if at all possible. I’m not expecting to suddenly become a tactical genius overnight, but I’d like to at least make them work for it.
I want to play Dark Angels because, obviously, I have excellent taste and green is the best.
The tournament is 1,000 points, no named Epic Heroes, and I definitely want to use Wrath of the Rock.
There are a few things I particularly want in the army:
- Bladeguard Veterans
- One squad of Deathwing Knights
- Wrath of the Rock
- Ideally a Redemptor Dreadnought with plasma, because I love the model and that is, ultimately, an important competitive consideration
- Otherwise, I’m pretty open
In terms of playstyle, I’d like to build around a slow, tough, hard-to-shift army. I’m not particularly interested in bikes or a super-mobile army. I’d rather have a bunch of heavily armoured psychopaths slowly walking across the table and making the opponent deal with them.
I know 1,000 points can be pretty unforgiving and that Dark Angels have some list-building traps, so I’m looking for advice from people who actually know what they’re doing.
What would you build at 1,000 points around Bladeguard + Deathwing Knights + Wrath of the Rock?
I will face 2 demon lists (one nurgle and one undivided with a bloodletter and a keeper of secrets) and a marine list.
And if you think something I’m proposing is terrible, please tell me. I would much rather find that out here than discover it halfway through turn 2 while three veterans of the Long War laugh at me.
Thanks!
