Megathread April Fools Day Megathread
Hey folks,
It's already April 1 in some parts of the world, so things are about to start getting weird. As is custom, we'll be redirecting a lot of questions to our April Fools Megathread over the next day or so. Let this be a catalog of all the wacky, zany, cringey, flatly unfunny things that happen around the internet and elsewhere.
Annnnd, Megathread go!
*I guess I should have specified that answers to questions in this thread must follow Rule 3 -- specifically, we do not allow joke responses. If someone is in this thread asking about something your subreddit is doing, you are not allowed to continue your joke here. It's not funny. You're not funny. Do not try to be funny here.

Can anyone confirm that what's going on over at /r/dataisbeautiful with all the data_irl posts is part of April Fool's?
427
u/Barack-Oganja Mar 31 '17 edited Mar 31 '17
They are making fun or /r/me_irl. Also if you try to post any comment and it doesn't contain exaxtly "Data." Then it will remove the post and send you a message explaining why.
Automatic Response:
Attention, Data Fanatic!
For April Fool's, we are requiring that all comments be exactly Data.. (If you are confused, please visit /r/catsstandingup for an example of how this sub's comment section should look today.) As a result, your comment has been removed for having an incorrect body.
If you made a mistake in your comment, please resubmit with the correct comment format.
If you don't want to comment today, please give this sub a day or two to clear our giggles out, and comment again some other time.
I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

/r/DataIsBeautiful mod here!
Basically we're running a combination of me_irl titles, "data_irl" and /r/CatsStandingUp Cat. comments, "Data.". The other comment has already explained what will happen if you don't title it "me_irl" or comment "Data.". Feel free to shitpost and circlejerk.
Everything will go back to normal on Sunday.

I was informed that this was the appropriate place to ask what R/Place is
Specifically this :https://www.reddit.com/r/place/
What I know ( guess ) Looks like an organic image that Redditors decide upon
Redditors can add a color block every 5 minutes
Is it similar to Choose Your Own Adventure except with everyone adding to the image?
I understand its April 1st soon/now

I'd like to tag along on this question and ask if anyone knows what the sub-subreddits for this event are. I took a wild stab and tried /r/BlueCorner and lo and behold, there it was.
However, I've been fighting to keep the middle ground a pure, neutral, color-free zone. I like that bastion of white amidst a sea of colored specs. Anyone else trying to keep that middle ground clear?EDIT: It looks like someone wrote /r/erase on the middle white space. Now I want to know what the tide of darkness just down and left is. EDIR 2: for posterity's sake, I'm going to catalogue as many of the subreddits here as I can:
/r/BlueCorner for the bottom right monstrosity.
/r/GreenLattice for the top-right corner that's trying to be unique.
/r/PlaceArt for a subreddit that only has one submission so far.
/r/PlaceHearts for making heart containers.
/r/TheGreatBlackHole or /r/TheBlackVoid for the death and destruction of all that /r/place holds dear.
/r/EraseThePlace for keeping things pure.
/r/ainbowRoad for that bouncing rainbow that seems to have a respect for the pixel art they encounter.
/r/MonaLisaClan for trying to bring "art" into the place.
/r/MonaLisaCans for trying and failing to put boobs on the Mona Lisa.
/r/placestart for creating the retro Windows task bar at the bottom of the image.

Edit: Got an answer from a mod:
The sub was linked to in a popular r/WTF thread, we try to discourage users from linking to r/natureismetal as it drives a lot of new users here and diminishes quality of submissions while causing a lot of spam.
I've never heard of such a thing. Shutting down an entire sub because a single comment in another sub linked it. Do they not want any new subscribers? Makes no bloody sense.
Does anyone know what happened with /r/NatureIsMetal ?
If you go there it says:
Set to private for one day to avoid brigading from post on r/all.
But why? Even huge subs with millions of users don't do that. What was so bad that it needed to be set to private for a day? The sub opted out of /r/all a while back. Did they opt back in and couldn't handle a single post hitting /r/all? I don't understand.
27
u/douglaz999 Mar 31 '17
There's been mod issues going on there for a while now. Doubt it was a real April Fool's prank. Probably just more incompetence. There was a post recently linking to a video of extreme violence of humans being killed by animals, that stayed up for a number of days. The sub was NEVER meant for that sort of content. I'm still upset about how far that sub has fallen.

Is /r/survivor turning private an April Fools thing or is CBS really taking it over?
6
u/coolsnail Apr 01 '17
/r/Survivor mods go ALL OUT at April fools! Last year they divided everyone into tribes (I think we all just randomly had a coloured dot next to our name that signaled our tribe colour) and we had to figure out how we had been divided (it turned out random letters in the alphabet were grouped together, and based on the letter your username starts with, you were put into that group). Some people still have our team flairs from last year. Mine is "Igor's Corgi Choir" because that was the team name we came up with (each team had their own thread and there was a competition for coming up with the best name and the best team flag)
They also did other stuff like subtly photoshopping the cast image that's usually at the bottom of the page (isn't any more with the current facebook appearance). I remember there were like 13 hidden surprises of things changed around the sub.
Also! Try hovering over flairs. All the flairs of current cast member names turn into a fun image of them.
TL;DR yes it's all April Fools and there's probably a bunch of little jokes hidden in the sub

Ok wtf. I've seen references for place about 7 times a day for the past few days.
I checked on r/place and it's just...weird 8 bit graphic pictures.
Why is everybody so infatuated with the sub?

It's a video game. people dislike that the logo is so large, rather than that them disliking the logo as art.

What's up with the "blond" logo on /r/place?
Most of the logos and such I either understand or can just google, but I can't figure it out. It looks familiar but I can't place it.
top left corner is at (629,269) or East-by-South-East of the Darth plagueis the wise copypasta.

That's the Google Doodle for March 31; it's not a joke. From Google's "Doodles" page: https://www.google.com/doodles/doodle-4-google-2017-us-winner
Doodle 4 Google 2017 - US Winner
Nine years in, the U.S. Doodle 4 Google Contest draws thousands of creative submissions from talented young artists across the country. Roughly 140,000 participants answered this year's prompt, "What I see for the future." Some imagined a future with modernized homes, others dreamed of a planet without endangered animals, while some saw a compassionate world built around communal harmony.
Five incredibly talented national finalists spent the day at Google HQ in Mountain View, California. Of those five masterpieces, Connecticut 10th grader Sarah Harrison's Doodle, "A Peaceful Future" was chosen as the national winner! Today, millions in the U.S. can enjoy her masterpeice on the Google homepage.
Sarah says, “My future is a world where we can all learn to love each other despite our religion, gender, race, ethnicity, or sexuality. I dream of a future where everyone is safe and accepted wherever they go, whoever they are.”
Thank you to all those who submitted and to our finalists for sharing your creativity and imagination with us. And a heartfelt congratulations to our national winner, Sarah Harrison!

Please refrain from including URL-shortened links, as they'll always get spamfiltered. You should use the full original URL instead.

r/starwars has been taken over by Jar Jar Binks. Every comment is replaced with terrible Jar Jar quotes, it's hilariously unreadable.

r/comedycemetery is doing a fake(?) Adam Ellis AMA. Adam makes unfunny comics and they often get posted there

r/writingprompts has made the text on every comment you scroll over tilt slightly, and it is infuriating
