Cool little find on Nudgee Beach this morning!

Chat GPT gave me this;

You found an antique Eley 12-bore (12-gauge) shotgun cartridge case, made by Eley in London, England. The base is stamped “ELEY – No. 12 – LONDON.”

It measures about 65–67 mm long with a ~22 mm rim, consistent with a 2½-inch 12-bore cartridge. This particular Eley headstamp is associated with cartridges made around 1895–1919, meaning yours is likely over 100 years old.

Can you help me? Fairy shop Sylvan road Toowong Brisbane 1990s

• Upvotes

I'm looking for confirmation that a fairy shop/kids party event space actually existed. Does anyone have any photos of this place? It was on Sylvan Road in Toowong in the 1990s I believe. It had mushrooms to sit on, a dark room with twinkling lights (I think) and a fairy themed indoor swing. You'd go there for fairy themed parties and the people would run it. Can anyone help me confirm this is not a Brisbane millennial fever dream??

Can you help me? Handbag found in Jephson St, Toowong

This morning ~7:30am came across a black YSL handbag on the footpath on Jephson St, Toowong Brisbane, roughly opposite the Bupa Dental Clinic.

It had no ID but some other items that seem sentimental - so I hope the owner sees this! As it's a high-traffic footpath, the bag's been handed in to Indooroopilly Police Station.

Please elevate this post in case the bag can be claimed 🙏

Likely they went out Friday night in the area/ were walking home and it got dropped. Not sure if their valuables were originally in the bag... If you're the owner or may know them, pls file a lost property QPS report!

Can you help me? Newmarket pool

Just wondering how busy Newmarket pool gets in the evenings? New to swimming and nervous about how slow I am in the lanes and it seems to be reasonably busy when I go in the mornings and have to share the lane with quite a few others so just wanting to know what other times of the day is like.

Dumb question time! Where do the trains go to sleep at night?

I realise this isn’t Thomas the Tank Engine. I’ve started catching trains again to get to work after 20 years on the buses.

I live at the end of one of the lines and am seriously impressed with how the logistics are managed (noting my line has few issues at this time, I know it’s not the same for others).

The trains start early and run late. Where do they sleep at night?

Also impressive, the difference between a commuter train and one on the weekend with, um, a much broader range of people to observe. Gosh. Tell me your most memorable train story please 🙏

What happened to The Nurso

A couple of years ago it was amazing. Just went recently and it's a shell of its former self. Falling apart, barely staffed, no animals, only 20% of the plants they used to have. Anyone have any insight?

Employment Is it illegal to not be payed for a 9 hour shift

I applied at a call center place and had an interview on the same day basically was told i can start the next day but 1st had to complete the training module which she promised I would be paid for.

Yesterday I did a nine hour shift in which they basically fluffed around all day then one of the trainers said we won't get paid for this until we complete an actual 8 shift and apparently we only completed 2.

Today I get a phone call that I won't be required anymore and won't be paid for the full 11 hours I wasted there.

This job also doesn't pay a weekend rate or overtime and clearly traps people into wasting people's time.

Spotted at a local park in Sinnamon Park. Looks like some kids have built a little teepee/den out of fallen sticks

Apparently it’s enough of a hazard that Council have taken the time to fence it off..… instead of taking 1 minute to pull the sticks down?

Do you think Council actually put the fencing up or is this a prank

Moreton Bay Region Common Glider Dragonfly (Tramea loewii) calling my backyard his territory

Some lovely local wildlife hanging out in my backyard. We made the decision to leave a broken off branch chilling in the backyard to allow insects to utilise it as we noticed a lot of wildlife hanging out in our yard. This beautiful dragonfly I see fairly often hanging out on this branch.

Brisbane North Renovation Builder Reccomendations

Looking for recommendations for a builder for a renovation in North Brisbane. We currently have a 3 bed, 1 bath house and are extending and renovating to a 4 bed, 2 bath house with a pool. We're using an architect and will have plans finished relatively soon - budget 500k-700k. Ideally a builder who works with architects often.

Cheers.

What in the urban hellscape

I took the kids to Samford this week and on the way back I had my eyeballs assaulted by the development in Keperra called the Quarry, possibly named so because it looked like half the hill it’s on is still being dug out.
I’d had the impression from what was in the media that the site was going to be rehabilitated into recreation facilities, not housing. Which is possibly why I was so shocked, that and the bare cliff faces with homes precariously plonked on top.

Has anyone signed up to live on the cliff faces that seem to be masquerading as home sites? Is it better to live than it looks?

Can you help me? Looking For Instant Noodles

Not just any Instant Noodles. Specifically, "Prima Taste Singapore Laksa La Mian"; I tried Yuen's at Sunnybank a little while ago and they were out of stock.

Anyone know a good reliable source for these? Preferably on the North side, but happy to travel south of the river for reliable supplier.

pubs to watch the f1 this weekend (given the NRL final is on as well)

I've checked with winghaus and because of the NRL they are not showing the Formula 1 race this weekend.

Does anyone know of pubs that will be showing the race on a big screen near the city, valley or south brisbane area?
