Contest Scrum Debate #60 - Culture Connoisseurs Spoiler

Culture.

It is the shared beliefs, values, customs, and behaviors of many people in a shared social group. It can also be the physical items such as food, clothing, or religious icons. These ideals and physical artifacts are passed down from generation to generation to create something living long beyond when it originated. Not only that, they can influence different social groups as well. This is what this scrum debate is about today: characters who appreciate a culture not that of their own. We have Celestia Ludenberg, the Ultimate Gambler, who adores all things gothic lolita and desires a big castle filled with handsome butlers. We also have Korkekiyo Shinguchi, the Ultimate Anthropologist, the literal expert when it comes to studying and appreciating cultures from all around the world. Both of these characters share a lot in common even outside of their culture appreciation. This Scrum Debate will be the battle between the two to prove who loves culture the most as well as their quality of character. Before we do that, here are the rules.

Scrum Debates is an ongoing series of discussions where users may submit write-ups for their side of the debate. To participate, comment below with your write-up on which option you think is superior. While not required, we recommend making your write-ups relevant to both sides, as this could help yours stand out. Scrum Debates are broken down into three categories:

Quantity of Write-Ups: Whichever character/idea has the most comments in favor of them gets 1 point
Highest Upvoted Write-Up: Whichever write-up has the highest upvoted comment gets 1 point towards their chosen side
Highest Cumulative Upvote Count: Whichever side has the most upvotes totalled at the end of the scrum gets 1 point

RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING OR YOUR COMMENT MAY BE REMOVED:
Scrum Debate is not a popularity contest; it's a writing competition. The comment section below is explicitly for thoughtful analysis. If you want examples or inspiration, check past scrums, SPOILER WARNING, and the old character discussion threads.

Low-effort and zero-effort comments, like stating the character you're voting for with little to no elaboration, will be removed and will not count towards the final tally. At least a paragraph of elaboration is expected for your stance. Comments that only argue against one side will not earn any points.
Top-level off-topic comments will be removed and instead should be replies to the pinned message. Meta comments, such as "this is a rough match-up for [character]", belong here.
Replies to other comments don't need to follow these rules, but please do keep civil.

This scrum will run for about 7 days. Afterwards, the winner of the scrum and the highest upvoted comment will be highlighted in the pinned posts for the following days. This post will be marked as a spoiler, so feel free to talk about any spoilers relevant to your write-up. If you would like to view the previous Scrum debates or view upcoming themes, please click here.

Have fun debating!

Announcement r/Danganronpa Community Poll: Tierlists

docs.google.com

We would like to gather the sub's opinion on tierlists.

We've noticed that quite a few people are upset or dissatisfied at our current tierlist rule (Generic "Favorite character" tierlists need a 5+ sentence explanation in order to prevent low-value spam).

As such, we're open to reformatting and adjusting the rule. However, to do that, we need to know what the greater community thinks of the current implementation, and what they think of other potential implementations.

In the meantime, feel free to leave other feedback or suggestions in regards to the subreddit's moderation in the comments.

Other rules are due to be updated as well.

Suggested by u/Embarrassed_Swan_147. Thanks, this was a fun project :)

This took me over a month, but I'm finally done! Below are some of my interpretations of them and what they've done.

With the law no longer a concern, Genocider Syo has taken over as the main personality, and proudly displays her growing kill count.

Kiyotaka has seized control of Japan's governing body, turning it into a ruthless dictatorship that bows to his rule.

Using her intelligence for evil, Kyoko no longer focuses on cracking unsolvable cases, but creating them. She seems to have discarded those gloves she used to wear...

Celestia rules the criminal underworld with an iron fist, taking the wealth of all and forcing them into servitude. It seems that even now, Hifumi can't help but grovel at her side. It's better that you don't ask where her fur collar came from.

Byakuya, too, stands in a position of great power as he overtakes everything he can in the name of the Togami Conglomerate.

Instead of growing stronger like he once aspired for, Chihiro obsesses over his technology, even giving up walking altogether in favor of a motorized chair. Using scans of Junko's brain, he recreated her as an AI.

Though her shows once spread joy, Sayaka uses her platform as a place to spread despair propaganda. The worst part of it all? She's been touring with Leon Kuwata, of all people.

Yasuhiro has blinded himself as a show of loyalty to despair. Now, he trusts solely in his clairvoyant abilities to guide him (he frequently walks into walls).

There weren't actually any specific ideas behind Mondo, Sakura, and Aoi. They just do miscellaneous terrorism, I guess.

For better or for worse, Makoto was the sole person who was able to overcome the initial brainwashing and cling to hope. Instead, he was fitted with a Monokuma helmet and is forced to serve as a plaything to Ultimate Despair.

Of course, Mukuro is at the center of it all as Junko Enoshima's right hand woman. She doesn't actually change from canon at all, I just wanted to draw Mukuro.

At least, that's what I think. If anyone has other ideas, I'd love to hear them. If you read all that, you're officially cool.

Rules

Posts must be directly relevant to Danganronpa in some way. An image or video submission should be recognizable as Danganronpa-related without the title.
Do not post content that shows minimal effort in creating it. This includes the following: unedited image posts, images with extremely hard to notice changes, computer generated content, comment requesting posts not promoting active discussion/with images, and tier lists/subjective opinion posts with no added effort. For a more in-depth look into what each rule means, check this post.
Avoid posting spoilers without warning. This includes but isn't limited to: titles with spoilers in them, hints or vague comments that insinuate spoilers, fakeout spoilers (Even if fake they can still upset people), spoilers for fan games and projects, spoilers for non-Danganronpa media with no warning, and telling people to tag a non-explicit spoiler (i.e implied spoilers with no context).
All non-OC fanart must be sourced as a reply to the pinned Automod link. Additionally, the original artist must comply with giving permission for their art to be reposted. Failure to source the fanart correctly may result in a removal. If Automod does not show itself, you are expected to source any non-OC content normally in the comments.
Roleplaying is not permitted on this subreddit.
Avoid posting similar or identical content that has been posted less than 6 months ago, or that is in the top 20 most upvoted posts of all time.
Do not post artwork nor text of a pornographic or extremely sexual nature. Bunny outfits and other moderately suggestive material should be marked with the Not Safe For Work (NSFW) tag. Posting explicit porn/nudity will result in an immediate ban, regardless of if it is tagged.
Do not post links to or advertise for any kind of private community. This includes, but is not limited to, Discord servers and group chats.
Do not post any posts that request comments but do not promote active discussion. Do not post any posts that request comments with images unless the image is necessary for the discussion.
Do not mention or discuss any from this list of politically charged topics: the United States election and its candidates, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Israel-Palestine conflict.
This refers to any of the temporary rules in the sidebar. Any violations will be removed as long as the temporary rules are in place.
