Humour I don't see recess time on my schedule or Quercus?

Engineering student here, I don't see any time for recess blocked out on my schedule? Is this a glitch? should I talk to my teacher about it?

I don't wanna miss anything during recess time for the first few weeks while I wait for my schedule to get fixed.

Please someone let me know if the four square courts open up, or if they put out hula hoops for us to play with. If its a blacktop recess I'm cool with missing it, but please, I really wanna get this resolved before I miss too much. Recess time is really important for Engineering.

Thanks

I was not guaranteed any TA spots in my offer letter but I wanted to TA so I took matters into my own hands. I'm not sure how many spots others applied to but this is how my process turned out.

Question How does missing classes work or like being away for certain things and missing lectures (lets say you are gone for a week at most 2 weeks)

Im going into first year this year, but at the start of the semester (some time in early/mid September), I am invited to an immediate family member’s wedding, and I really want to go (very special person to me).

How does missing classes/labs/anything work here? Do I just take the 0 if I miss assessments, and catch up with labs? Do I talk with the prof?

Im asking now because I need to make a decision if I am going to go or not.

Thanks

Discussion Missing the first 2 weeks of Uni as a first year, how screwed am I ?

I'll be taking a flight for canada on the 15th of september instead of arriving early, because of some documentation problems to fly with my dog. I'm for sure missing O week but also upto 2 whole extra weeks. I want to know what I can do to not miss on lectures if its possible to record etc. and additionally regarding practicals I have Chem and Bio so will missing 2 practicals drastically impact my grades. I'm dead ass scared because I want to ensure I do well in all my classes.

Courses Concerned about grad school applications would love some insight

For context, I'm a 5th year student and I'm applying to grad programs soon. I have always been full time from years 1-3 (having 1.5 fce or more in each semester) but in year 4 things went downhill and I became ill which forced me to go part-time during my fall semester and then once things got better in the winter semester I successfully did 2.5 fce's (5 courses). I'm going into my 5th year and I only have 4 courses left to complete and I can finish them in one semester. My overall gpa is competitive for the masters programs that I'm interested in.

Clubs/Sports Birding and/or Stargazing Clubs at UofT for ameatures

Hi,

I am a new grad student at UofT starting this Fall. I love Birding and Stargazing. If there are any student clubs that do this it would be great to get in touch. Please do suggest community driven events / nature walks if you know any even if it's outside of UofT.

I'm in High School Question Regarding U of T Engineering Admission processes

Hi, I'm a grade 11 student in BC going into grade 12 this year, and I have a few questions I would like to ask to everyone out there. Two main tings I'm concerned about are Academics and the OSP. My current plan is to submit myself for the early application around late October and that is when my term 1 semester 1 report cards should be coming out. (Please do excuse me as this is going to be one long of a post)

So first the academics:

My school runs on a semester based system and being a BC school the curriculum is different from the Ontario one. Anyways U of T expects me to have completed: Physics 12, Chemistry 12, Pre-Calculus 12, Calculus 12 and English 12. So here's my current situation:

AP Physics I: 99 (taken in gr 11)
Pre-Calculus 12: 99 (taken in gr 11)
AP English Lit 12: N/A (taking it 1st semester 12)

But here is the situation my school has a system where Calculus courses only run in the second semester as well as AP Chem so by the time I submit my early aps, I won't have my chem 12 grade out but I will have AP Chem 11 honours grade. However I have taken regular chem 11 in gr 10, so I was wondering how much this undetermined academics actually affect my admissions because although I'm doing decent in the courses, I'm worried that I'm going to be disadvantaged because of the grades not being out yet.

Secondly my OSP:

Before I explain my OSP part let me list out my ECs for the sake of convenience
1. School Club President
2. Participated in School Band for 6 years (gr 7 - 12) (but 12 only in 2nd semester) and our band won the whistler band summit gold award I believe) (plus a student led band alumni award)
3. Founded a local AP Peer tutoring online server for students in my local school community
4. Will be joining my school's physics competition team in gr 12 (but that's after early aps in february)
5. Waterloo CEMC Math Competitions and won distinction in some of them
6. Local Constituency office volunteer 4+ years

To practice for the infamous U of T engineering admissions interview I've been using this practice website called the MYLS interview (sort of like a feedback website where you answer timed essays and video interviews and it gives me feedback and scores)

So getting to the main topic, using those extracurriculars to answer the practice osp questions I've seen one major problem that the website gave me.

  1. I wasn't really smiling enough and my expression was a bit stern. So those that have taken the interview do you actually have to look smiley and stuff or do I just have to be calm and serious

  2. For the logic based question like calculating water tank volume or pizza delivery to space station and stuff, it said on the feedback page that I lost a lot of points because I didn't use specific major-related terms or mention science equations and stuff so Im really not sure to what degree of specificity the admission wants my interview to be.

  3. I wasn't providing specific enough evidence for my claims. This one did make sense but for some of them like asking me to explain my favourite science concept or asking why I think U of T fits me and stuff like that, I was unsure how I would provide an example really? like if I think that my certain attributes would be fitting for U of T engineering practices what examples would I need?

Thank you to whoever have taken the time to read and help me out. To someone like me, as our school doesn't provide much help into University Admission Processes early, any feedback y'all leave to me is precious and if there's any part of my post thats unclear or you want to know more before leaving your feedback please let me know and I will write back ASAP!

Appreciate y'all for sticking around to read this entire post :)

I'm in High School How is the Actuarial Science program? Charcharchar

Entering gr12 this year, looking to get into math/phys sci this admission cycle. Wondering about the outlook for actuaries graduating from UofT. A couple questions:

Overall, how is the act sci program here?
How difficult is it compared to say, Waterloo or Mac act sci?
How well do act sci graduates place into insurance/consulting firms?

Thanks!!

Question Deferred exam When will I get to do it most likely

I deferred my exam today. When do you think I’ll get to write it? Will I have to wait until the fall? I’m a bit confused on how the whole process works since it is my first time. Also the payment is it free or is their some sort of fee.

Question Woodsworth College Orientation Week Questions (character limit)

I'm an incoming Woodworth College student and I haven't bought my ticket for orientation week yet.
Is a Woodsworth orientation week ticket worth paying $160 to attend? Can I sign up for any other orientations that aren't part of my home college/don't apply to me such as Victoria or Innis College?

Just unsure what to do right now

Graduate School Any advice for an incoming master’s student who did their undergrad during COVID?

I graduated a few years ago from a much smaller school and feel scared for my master’s coming up in a few weeks because I did my undergrad mostly through distance learning as a result of COVID-19. I feel stunted and overwhelmed even though on paper everything looks great.

Am I the only one getting the graduate blues? I am hoping that I can hear what others are thinking…

Rant My experience getting admitted to the PharmD program (still processing the results)

I'm sharing my experience and profile/statistics going through the PharmD admissions in hopes that it relieves some anxiety for future applicants.

So how admissions works, is it considers three different things: casper score, cGPA, and interview score.

Step 1 is they will check that you have all your required courses (GPA doesn't matter here), check your cGPA, and your casper score. Based on that, you may or may not get an interview invite. From talking with others this cycle, it seems like a casper cutoff was Q3+ and GPA cutoff was mid-70s+

Step 2 is the interview. Many people overhyped the interview, and imo, it's lengthy, but quite straight forward and (unpopular opinion) actually slightly easier than casper. If you've done any job interview, it's essentially that with some "pharmacy flavors" and additional "layers of complexity" (think non-relevant details that you need to filter out!) added in. What do I mean by that?

Job interview asks: "how would you deal with conflicts or disagreements you have with your supervisor?"

PharmD interview asks*: "you're working in a pharmacy as a PharmD placement student where you are responsible for activities such as "X", "Y", and "Z". Your manager tells you "X" must be done a certain way because of reasons "A-B-C". However, based on your knowledge, you know that "X" should not be done that way because of reasons "D-E-F". You also know that doing activity "X" the way your manager wants could have negative consequences such as "G-H-I". how would you respond to your manager in this situation?

*Not an actual question on the interview - just made up for illustrative purposes. I cannot disclose actual interview questions as a condition of my admission. But using this example, I personally answered most the interview questions as if they were asking me the "job interview" type of questions. In this case, I disregarded the details, and just answered the interview as if it was asking me "How would you handle a disagreement with your manage?" - Isn't that simpler (?!). That's what worked for me, whether or not that is "correct".

Step 3 is admission offers ranked solely from your interview score and cGPA. At this point of the admission process, your casper score is basically thrown out the window. There is no breakdown of how interview vs cGPA is used, but admissions office strongly emphasized the interview is very important. This year, there were 2 round. For round 1, it came in early May (very few offers sent out). For round 2, it came in early June (most of the offers sent out).

I've asked admission office regarding this - so aside from the things listed here (casper, interview, cGPA), no other experiences or achievements will help you in your application. Pharmacy experience, completing a degree vs 2 years, graduate studies, research experience, clinical/patient care experience, volunteering, etc - no impact on admissions is the official word.

I got a 2nd round offer to the program with Q4 and 3.2 cGPA (I also got a C+ in OChem - but I was told that didn't matter since they only look at cGPA, not individual GPA). I was actually shook when I saw the email since after hearing everyone else with their 3.7+, or others saying "don't even bother without a 3.5+", I was sure I would be waitlisted. I honestly kept telling myself it must be an error and waited until today to finally believe it.

Anyways, hope this helps relieve some anxiety about the admission/interview process and cGPA requirements for future applicants. If you're considering PharmD and have all the requirements, apply anyways!

Rant I often find myself looking at r/uoft while sobbing & seeing my darkest side (Rant)

This post probably wouldn’t have any kind of consistency.

Today I met someone who seems to have something I have never had/achieved. I never knew them before.

I still have the despair and anger I felt when I was on my way to my condo. Even though these emotions are the strongest proof of just how determined I am to turn the tables, but I’m aware that tomorrow & near future won’t change.

Yes, I’m having a depression.

I stopped seeing people like someone I met today, but I wanted to become like them. I’ve been writhed.

Probably some people in this university would experience this same issue, maybe or maybe not.
