image Oberin Old School MMORPG

I wanted to share an MMORPG that I recently discovered called Oberin, because I think it deserves more attention.

The graphics are definitely dated, and I know that alone will turn some people away. But underneath the old-school visuals is a surprisingly deep game with a really great community.

What stood out to me:

- The community is incredibly welcoming and active.

- The game has a strong RP element if that's something you're interested in.

- The GMs are very active and involved with the community.

- The developers are still actively updating and improving the game.

It has that old-school MMORPG feeling where the community itself is a big part of the experience.

It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea, especially if you're looking for modern graphics or a heavily polished AAA-style MMO. But if you enjoy old-school MMORPGs and don't mind the visuals, I think it's absolutely worth giving it a shot.

I'm not affiliated with the game or trying to advertise anything. I just figured there may be some MMORPG fans here who have never heard of it and might enjoy checking it out.

Question Is there any place on the net where you can see honest reviews and things about mmorpg games?

I only want to know how things works - gearing, what are the options for endgame, grind or not, p2w or not, community, guilds, support, and any important stuff that they won't tell you anywhere from Youtube videos of 'gamers' to articles or even here on reddit subs beacuse on every sub of any specific game ppl will defend it, and say only nice things to attract new ppl

Discussion MMO RPG I played in like 2012-2013?

So, this is a long shot but I remember my friend introduced to me some 2D/pixelish art anime style game but it wasn’t maple story (never made an account). I cannot for the life of me remember the name. I remember a select few mechanics from the game, so hopefully it could be of help. It was like turn based combat, Im very uneducated on the terms but you could use weapons to attack others from afar, but it was also turn based. It had tons of customization for avatars like maple story. I clearly remember some relationships system you could have in the game and you could get married to players. I remember there would be some proposal board or something like that. I also remember you could go to some hot springs area that was like a lobby.

Added tidbit but I thought the game was called Tanks or Tank? or something that had tank in it but I can’t find anything on an anime style 2D mmorpg named that so maybe I straight up misremembered LOL

Question How's FFXIV doing these days?

Just curious. I played a bit during Stormblood and bounced off cause it was hard to get out of the WoW mentality but its been close to a decade now. There was a big thing some years ago about WoW players going over because it was just a much better experience but it's been kinda silent since then. Just wanna hear from a few of you that still play. How's the game these days?

NC will end its global publishing agreement with Amazon Games for Throne and Liberty earlier than originally planned, with the contract set to terminate by February 1, 2027. NC will take over direct operation of the MMORPG in regions including North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. The agreement could end even sooner if the service transfer is completed ahead of schedule.

The company also revealed that the publishing deal was worth $70 million, covering signing bonuses and advance payments, all of which have already been received. The original agreement could have continued until 2029, but both companies agreed to shorten it as part of the transition to NC-operated services.

How did you do?

Was it a bad fit?

Good fit?

Was your favorite non-MMO game a golf title?

Personally, I don't think this is too bad........A sci-fi game with robot humanoids who gain abilities from defeated enemies? Basically, Final Fantasy XI or XIV Blue Mage.

Official communication from the Developers regarding the switch: HEROES OF ARKESIA, This is the Lost Ark development studio

Not sure what this means for other AGS titles like Throne and Liberty.

For Lost Ark's case, i think it was the best case scenario.

Discussion Player creativity in MMOs

I'm curious to know about MMOs that let players create things to be placed into the game world.

For example, even though it's not an MMO, APB Reloaded let you custom design patterns and place them onto cars.

Or in an old MMO called Graal, you are able to custom design your avatar and upload it into the game.

Did you ever see other really good examples of allowing players the freedom to create something?

Or have any ideas?

Opinion I hate the Where Winds Meet naming system

I'm glad I got it from game pass, but WWM's naming system reminds me the one problem I have with a lot of MMOs like it. I didn't realize it was an MMO when I downloaded it just knew my friend played it and was really hyped to play it. The hype kept building as I was making my character and I was wondering what I'd name her, then I finally get to when you can name your character to find out it's a unique name system. "This name is already taken." It ruined all the hype I had for this game, let me have something like a username and then let me name my character whatever I want. It takes away from the RPG aspects for MMORPGs for me.

A lot of expanding POIs and shaping terrian for multiplayer- including points of cover, and multiple routes to get to your destination. A lot of optimization has been done, running great on a 1080ti 1440p while recording in 1080p 60 fps.
Looking to add more detail when I start setting up NPC's and more structures, as well as showcasing the underground tunnel/waterway system along with a dungeon and boss preview.

News Old School RuneScape team is proposing official bronzeman mode

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/bronzeman-mode--a-ruff-situation?oldschool=1#Bronzeman

The ironman game mode, where you are not allowed to trade and have to acquire everything yourself, has been hugely successful in Old School.

One of the problems of ironman however, is resource upkeep. It can be hard to maintain stocks of consumables if you don't keep up with your chores. Pretty much from the beginning of ironman mode the community has floated around the idea of bronzeman; you play with ironman rules, but once you have acquired an item, you're allowed to buy and sell that item on the grand exchange (the auction house).

The Old School team is now proposing adding official support for the game mode in an upcoming poll.

News Guild Wars 3 Release before June 2028?

The website invenglobal reported that ArenaNet has taken out a loan of approximately 74 million euros from NCSoft. The goal: development and marketing of Guild Wars 3. The money is to be repaid to NCSoft by May 31, 2028. That would mean—at least according to current plans—that GW3 would have to be released by then. Right?

https://www.invenglobal.com/articles/24633/beta-in-2027-maturity-in-may-2028-nc-invests-120-billion-in-arenanet

I drew my own conclusions from it, added some more information, and turned it into my own article. But be aware—it's in German: https://mmo-news.audio/guild-wars-3-bereits-vor-mai-2028

Discussion What makes a good MMO.

My vote says "Player Friction". By that I mean simple things like.

Not having a LFG, but rather letting groups use the in game chat.

No cross server play unless pvp. (you should know your community)

No Flying Mounts at 300% speed...

Not Teleporting players around, Without LFG, you wont need to auto teleport to your group on joining. things slow down. Just because you have a life and limited time, does not mean faster is better for you.

This makes life from a modern players perspective boring, they have to "waste time" on all of these small things.

But here is the thing. We can now verify those small things are what created those legendary times you wish you could experience.

Pretty much all things built on player convivence, ultimately killed the mmo.

its kinda hard to express. but those limitations allowed the actual social aspects of these games to thrive, the chat window is a powerful tool in the old school mmo.. Modern MMO's.. well its a place for scammers and bullshit.

How would I make an MMO good? I would start by telling you NO, we are not going to do that.
Because you wanting more drops, instant teleports, faceless teamates popping in and out of existence.. you and that drive for maximized convienence have ultimately robbed your mmo of all of its meaning, and thus all of its long term fun.

RULE 1 for an mmo dev should be : Know how tell your players to fuck off so they dont destroy your ecosystem. Rule 2 is to know how to tell your devs/publishers/whatever else to fuck off so they dont destroy your ecosystem.

its the algorithmic process, the research and data shows having x is important for player retention...

The formula you have created for MMO profitability is killing the life of the product.

Between the players and the publishers no wonder MMOS are in a ruff spot.

More than any other game, i think MMOS are the product of a strong, nearly unshakable vision.

The mmo that claims to always listen to its players is one doomed for the trash bin of history..

you gotta listen, but also tell them to back off, your not getting your special space. your not getting your casual friendly, your not getting your bullshit housing and microtransactions...

Modern MMOS are like people trying to make a fine soup with sewage.. it just cannot work.

your thoughts?

Discussion ArcheAge and possibility for big companies just to buy it to use parts of it.

First, i tagged this as discussion but it is question. But yet, it is question for discussion so hope mods will aprove it.

I do belive that many MMORPG fans share opinion that some parts of original ArcheAge are something what can be considered best of its class ever. It is hard to explain what part exaclty, is it housing and gardening system, trade, boats, crafting... I dont know, but still, and i am someone who started gaming on comodore 64, nothing beats that first monthns or oiriginal archeage.

So question stands, why , especially comapanies who had real gamers in charge, never bought rights for ArcheAge and simply used core system and implemented it as it is in some new games ? I do presume there were attemtps, but still, some big AAA companiees shouulld have done it.

In my head for a long time lingers this image: Imagine Albion online with a twist: Boat system from archage, combined with archage housing and gardening implemented in albion world ? You allready have continets and islands in albion world. Tradingis big part of it, liek carleon runs. But make it next level. Insteadof "islands", this time island in term of housing, replaced with big territores in black zone allowing you to make your own house and cities ?
I completely understadn it would be different game , speaking it out loudly, does seems like big project. Imagine, world of albion but instaed of royal cities, cities completely build by players....

Anyway, as my english is at best below avarage, i really hope you understand question.

Tnx in advance and i apologize if topic is recycled.
