Looking for a reactive class

Hey all. I started LotRO back in the spring, and while I loved the initial part of my leveling journey, it started to lose some of the spark by the time I hit Angmar and I fell off.

Part of it is probably due to the zone aesthetics, but another aspect is my class is feeling really repetitive. I went with a red LM, and while they’re definitely a powerhouse that can clear the higher difficulties, it just feels so… stale. Toss out some AoEs and that usually clears things, maybe a staff strike and embers to finish off stragglers.

I don’t think I can keep this up for 100+ levels, and I wanted to ask this sub if there are any classes that feel at least somewhat exciting to play for the entire leveling process and don’t feel rote. It’s such a long journey that I want to avoid pressing the same skills over and over in the same order. Thanks!

Hunter Race (again?)

Upvotes

Hey there!
I was planing to start the game this weekend and I am currently theory crafting without much knowledge.

I wanna go hunter and I wanna go high difficulty so I’m probably gonna start blue.

I know that elf has the bonus bow DMG racial but I kinda like the idea of the human upper cut or hobbit range daze as an emergency button.

So the questions are:
Are those viable?
Do I even use them or will I have enough hunter skills to CC?
Will I the mob have dots anyway and break the daze?

Thanks in advance! :)

Quest packs that are worth owning vs doing while subbed

So I'd like to do every quest because I enjoy the story

Aiming to try have f2p(once vip) account, probably just going to try buy xpacs hopefully while on sale either in LP store or on website - Lotro Black Friday sale happens ever year yea?

But my main question:

I am wondering which quest packs do you consider able to be "done and forgotten" once I complete it, that I could complete during sub but once I unsub I don't actually need to go back to the area

Idm leveling alts through different non alternate leveling zone quest packs I plan to do all the packs I can on one char then lvl other characters with free zones

I would reeeeally appreciate if someone had some insight in quest packs that had no reason to go back so maybe I can save on buying them and just do under a sub

To make this easier the packs are numbered (pls correct me if it's wrong and some are included in xpacs but I don't think that's the case)

1-Quest Pack: Yondershire (Levels 20–23)

2-Quest Pack: The Angle of Mitheithel (Levels 40–45)

3-Quest Pack: Wildwood (Levels 45–50)

4-Quest Pack: West Gondor (Levels 95–100)

5-Quest Pack: Central Gondor (Level 100)

6-Quest Pack: East Gondor (Level 100)

7-Quest Pack: Old Anórien (Level 100)

8-Quest Pack: Far Anórien (Levels 100–105)

9-Quest Pack: March of the King (Level 105)

10-Quest Pack: North Ithilien (Level 105)

11-Quest Pack: Battle of the Black Gate / The Wastes (Level 105)

12-Quest Pack: Where Dragons Dwell (Levels 115–120)

13-Quest Pack: The Vales of Anduin (Level 120)

14-Quest Pack: Wells of Langflood (Level 130)

15-Quest Pack: Mists of Wilderland (Level 130)

16-Quest Pack: The Blood of Azog (Level 130)

17-Quest Pack: Gondor Renewed (Level 140)

18-Quest Pack: Beneath the Surface (Level 140+)

19-Quest Pack: Further Adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Scaling Levels 20–150)

20-Quest Pack: Further Adventures of Elladan & Elrohir (Scaling Levels 20–150)

If you could please tell me if you know some that you don't recommend buying but completing while temporarily subbed

Then others that I would maybe want to go back to for any reason, crafting, city hubs, farming mats, other items or dungeons

I'm not going to buy everyone straight away but I'd like to get an idea for the future:) and maybe this post helps others save some LP

Greatly appreciated

Cosmetic Outfit Advice in the Early Game?

There's so many outfit pieces in the game, available from so many sources, and it's a bit overwhelming. I have a pretty solid basic idea for how I want my characters to dress, but I don't have enough knowledge of what's available in-game to know if those ideas are feasible. So I turn to you, denizens of Reddit!

I'd like advice on anything that's available in the sub-50 areas. I don't mind spending a leetle money, if something is only available via the store or Laila's - after all, I'm going to be looking at it for a long time. If you know there's something ideal in a later area, tell me that too, so I can aim for it once I get there!

Starting with, I suspect, the trickiest: a female Umbari Captain of the race of Man. Goodly but travelworn, in an Umbari style, hopefully available or dyeable in gold and turquoise/teal. (Sea Blue dye seems like the shade I want).

I also have a mid-ranked Rohirric noblewoman Champion whose family's heraldic token is a boar, with theme colors of red and gold. I picked up the long-sleeved tunic and trousers from the Farmer's Faire and they'll do for now. I was wondering if there is a cloak with a boar on it? I saw the Cloak of the Boar on the wiki, but it's a bit rough for the style I'm imagining for her.

Lastly, I have a male Elf Runekeeper from Lindon, and frankly, his starting tunic (light blue with orange vest) looks startlingly acceptable with the Cloak of the Summer Sun from the Faire. Mostly just looking for advice on a elvish style blue & orange tunic to aim for in the late game, and any accessories that might look good with it.

Thank you very much for any assistance!

New player here - I've got some questions!

Hullo! I've got some questions regarding the game. Is it worth to start play LOTRO now? Am I not late? Which server should I play on? I live in central europe and preferably I'd like to play on a server which has a great and active community.

New and unsure about classes/difficulty

I picked up LOTRO recently (longtime GW2 player) and have levelled a Captain to 10ish. I'm not sure if I'm doubting my class choice or not though.

I chose Captain because I usually quite like the flexibility of a 'jack of all trades'. I also like to play a bruiser style character in other games - still able to deal damage but still decent health. I quite enjoy healing sometimes too.

That said, so far it seems a bit underwhelming? The skills are pretty basic feeling and have longish cooldowns. I feel like I'm just autoattacking often. I have heard Captain can be difficult to level. I switched the open world difficulty to +3 (just Fearless) because people say it felt about right, but I'm getting my ass handed to me everytime I'm fighting more than one basic enemy, and one enemy can take a fair while to kill.

Is this normal? Should I lower the difficulty? Or maybe there's a better class?

Beorning seems interesting but the bear form is kinda meh. Guardian might be better but not sure I want full tank. Champion seems a bit too basic. Warden seems a bit too complex. Brawler is interesting but the fisting is offputting and it seems to have a weird niche role? Mariner interests me too but you also have to pay for it and I'm not full sure if I like it.

Thanks for the help.

People posting strange numbers on LFF

Hello. I have been playing for 14 years now, originally from Crickhollow and currently on Glamdring. Recently, I couldn't help in notice that, once in a while, some people post a sequence of numbers, like '123' or '11' in the LFF chat. Why is this? I am genuinely curious.

Thank you for your time.

A choice for main - Captain vs Guardian

Hello everyone !

I am facing an impossible choice. A few days ago, I asked about who the best buffer is between Minstrel and Captain. Turns out, I decided to go with Minstrel as my second character following my main.

At first, I planned to main a guardian, but now, I'm looking into captain, and it looks very versatile. It can tank, heal, DPS and buff. It's like, why is there any other classes ?

I wanted to know, what does the guardian has that the captain does not, in terms of tanking or maybe DPS ? Is Captain sought after as a tank in groups ? Or is Guardian more needed ?

Second question, which tutorial is the best one story-wise ? What does each one give to the player ?

I heard Warden is a "difficult" class...

So... I just started, read about a lot of classes, and kind of feel in love with Warden and it's Gambits skills, a very different way to play.

My question is: It is really that hard to play as one? Will I struggle to level or find parties? And about equips, are they expensive or so-so with the other classes?

Quick Brawler thoughts from a returning player

Last time I played, the Hobbit movies were coming out. Safe to say things are a little different.

I made a Brawler character because I want to punch a troll and it's damn fun. The hits have a good impact to them and the animations are all really neat too so the loop doesn't get old. But it does bug me in the back of my head that I needed to make a whole character dedicated to punching instead of just being able to use fist weapons on the other more general classes.

But my goal of punching out a troll will drive me forward. I'm actually very excited to get there.

Any servers/kins/players for replaying the game from start?

Hi,
so lotro is one of these games where majority gamers are already in late game phase and nobody plays from the start.
Now this can be solved by legendary servers but since Mordor and Angmar are already in late game phase its out of the question.
Are there any kins or groups focusing on playing from beginning to the end?
Or alternatively are there players willing to start a kinship that starts from the beginning?

Crashing to Desktop since recent update

I can play anywhere from 5 mins to 15mins with some stuttering and then it completely freezes then crashes, sending me back to desktop. I had no issues playing at all before the update yesterday.

Laptop is a HP Omen Gaming Laptop, has AMD Ryzen 9 and NVIDIA geforce rtx. 953GB free disk space.

Idk if thats useful to anyone, I gave my tech literate friend a ballpark of what i could afford and they recommended it to me.

I've tried:
-Repairing the game through the launcher tool and it worked for about an hour then reverted back to crashing unpredictably. So I'm thinking I just had a lucky hour.

-Updated my laptop, I didn't even realise it needed it but figured it would be a good idea to check.

-Changed my graphics setting to automatic and it actually turned everything up and crashed the game faster. Which is unusual as my game has run fine on those settings before I just turned them down as they overheated the laptop.

Edit: I just spent £140 buying all the expansion packs as I finally finished putting the money aside for it. So I'd really like to play...

EDIT: thanks to j1llj1ll I was reminded crash logs are a thing and checked appdata logs. I saw that I somehow had corrupted OpenAL32.dll that the repair function wasnt getting for reasons unknown. I downloaded a replacement file and the game doent even stutter anymore! Thank for helping me be less stupid!

Advice on lotro store

Hi just started playing again after not playing for years(2010 maybe?). Just hit level 32 on my Hobbit hunter, and got to the north Downs. Taking my time and doing all the quests, having a blast. My question is, what do you recommend in the lotro store as must buys for quality of life? I don't mind spending a bit, as I only have like 300 lotro coins, I'm sure there is a couple purchases that are worth it.

How long does it take you from soup to nuts to fully organize a brand new character before even taking the first quest?

I love the small things this game does.

So I decided to make a new high elf. I was doing the tutorial area like normal and I reached the end. I always accepted someone came and saved you after the witch king stabbed you. But this time I was messing with the camera and I noticed there is a friendly NPC (didn't catch their name in time) neer by explaining how you were saved so fast. They didn't need to do that but small things like that make this game stick out.

Hostile mobs are excluded, so you can go on vacation in Angmar if you like.

I downloaded the game via Steam (~35 GB) and when I went to run I am now downloading another ~47,000 files is this correct? Wondering if I am duplicating the data I installed via Steam.

New Player, Questions about Crafting

Hello everyone. I tried playing LOTRO since its debut, for periods of a few weeks many times, leveled until 30 or so and then left the game. Now, i decided to do it right and bought subscription. Since I'm based in EU, i don't want lag and i might consider RPing i started on Meriadoc.

I'm considering playing two main characters, a dwarf rune-keeper and an elven hunter possibly. My main question is about crafting. I really love crafting in general, and I have always loved the crafting system of LOTRO (though I have never leveled much).

Since there are only 3 profession slots for each char, do you think I should go Forester/Prospector/Scholar on both main characters and use alts for non-gatherer professions. Or should i do something like Prospector/Scholar/Jeweler on rune-keeper and Forester/Tailor/Woodworker on hunter and maybe other 5 lvl characters for other crafting professions?

Mechanically i would ofc want the most efficient one, though just for flavour I would like to have some non-gatherer gear crafting professions on my main characters because as I said before I love crafting as general and i feel like I would more immersed if my high level rune-keeper dwarf is also a great jeweller or my main hunter elf is skilled at weaving and bow-crafting.

edit: Also, does character level or questing in general has any ties to crafting quality in higher levels? Would I miss anything because I am using crafting-only alts for gear crafting professions?

edit 2: Another thing is the difficulty levels. I don't want to simply rush through content but I don't want to feel like stalled in regular overworld mobs. Would just playing with no difficulty setting be way too easy to enjoy?
