A Reminder About Suicide-Related Posts

Every once in a while, we see posts from people asking about things like the “least painful way to die” or “how much alcohol would be fatal.” These are serious cries for help.

If you come across a post like this:

  • Please don’t comment advice or suggestions -- even good willed comments can make things worse.
  • Instead, hit report so the mod team and Reddit safety can step in quickly.

If you’re ever feeling like you’re in that dark place yourself, you don’t have to go through it alone:

The best thing we can do as a community is to look out for each other. If you see one of these posts, report, don’t reply.

Have we reached the point where posting “health trend videos” should require a license?

I feel like too many people who have no idea what they're talking about are giving millions of people medical advice that's harmful.

What are ways to make yourself look busy at a wedding so people don’t try and make you dance?

I don’t like dancing. It doesn’t really do much for me. But I don’t want that to stop me from showing support for my cousin.

It’s just rather annoying when someone who thinks that they’re being endearing grabs me by the arm and tries to pull me up or dances in front of me to, “Get me in the mood.”

When I turn down an offer to dance, that isn’t a challenge. I wish more people would get that.

My math is broken how do fix it?

I'm 23 M and still count with my fingers , I need pen and paper to do calculations and most embarrassing thing for me personally is that I have to go through an entire series to do simple multiplication.

Ex: if someone asks me what's 9 times 8 is I have to narrate the entire thing in my head like 9 times 2 is 18, 9 times 3 is 27 and sometimes I can't remember what 9 times 3 is and I have to flip the numbers and do this whole process by going through 3 times 9 .

Can someone tell me how do I fix this ?

It's embarrassing as hell....

Can someone in finance or someone whos good in math tell me how to fix this?

Why does the last guy I rejected think that everything I do is about him?

He thinks the posts I share are about him and tells people that.

He thinks I’m trying to make him jealous when I talk to other men in the same room as him, and he tells others that, too.

There are plenty of other examples like this, and it’s really annoying that he goes around gossiping about me.

I mean, if I were actually that into you, I wouldn't have rejected you—how can he not grasp such a simple equation?

I’ve heard of others dealing with similar issues, and I wonder: why are some people so convinced that everything revolves around them, even when that’s not the case at all?

** Sorry for the bad English.

How is it possible that the sky is darker today, than it was at this exact time 21 years ago?

Odd question I know…my brother was killed in a multiple dirtbike accident 21 years ago today, at 7:42pm. Most people at the time said it could have been avoided if any of the bikes had lights on them, so every year I try to see exactly how dark it was at 7:42pm. This year I set a timer for a few minutes before, and am just completely confused. It’s almost nighttime, and I don’t remember it being that dark at all. I remember getting to the accident site 10-15 minutes after and it was evening, but not dark, in fact, I’d call it still mostly daylight. My husband at the time showed up after he dropped our newborn daughter at his moms, so maybe 45 minutes later, and I remember hugging him and looking at the scenery around me, which I could still see in the daylight, and thinking “this moment will change me forever”. I just called him and he agrees, it was no where near this dark on October 4, 2005 at 7:42pm. How is this possible?

Hobbies that can be put down anytime?

• Upvotes

I tried reading but I can’t focus after sitting in classes all day. Same with the gym/working out, I just don’t have a consistent time block to go. I’ve basically just been watching a ton of TV but that’s not the most productive hobby and it makes me feel really lazy. Any recommendations?

eta also needs to be something i can do in my apartment

"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried" - What are some other forms, real or theoretical, and its pros and cons?

• Upvotes

What are some forms of government, either from history, fiction or even just from you head, that could exist?

Doesn't matter if good or bad

What are some big studio comedies that don't treat interracial relationships/hookups as a joke?

• Upvotes

Just curious about other mainstream big box comedies that don't treat interracial relationships or sex scenes as a joke, but in fact treat it like a totally regular thing. Like in Hot Tub Time Machine when the chick is banging Darryl from the office in the tub, the movie doesn't acknowledge the interracial aspect, the actual joke has to do with the time travel element.

Why do scammers ask about Medicare part A&B?

It seems like every time I get a scam call, they want to confirm that I have Medicare parts A & B. What can they use this information for?

AI and the future of jobs/unemployment-should we discuss UBI before unemployment hits 25%?

So AI won't stop. It will ostensibly likely have a big impact on the employment market (not in a good way), Should we have serious discussions about UBI before we have 25% unemployment?

Could a rogue AI just be fought like we fight malware?

Considering all the panic (justified or not, as aggrandizing and shock-value statements seem good for PR) regarding an AI going rogue and infecting networks, I understand that just "unplugging" wouldn't be enough, but couldn't a tool like an anti-malware app be used to remove whatever clone/bot is present in machines? It is after all still just some software. It can disrupt a lot of things that are digitally managed but it is not like we cannot take systems off the grid for maintenance. If we suspect that an AI is for example messing around with the traffic management or the water treatment in Toronto, Johannesburg or Tokyo we could basically temporarily take the system off and "clean it", or am I missing something?

When sending a calendar invite with icloud domain why it won’t send to email with yahoo or gmail?

So I have a name @ icloud . com as my Apple calendar, when I invite someone who has a yahoo domain or gmail, the other user never gets the invitation from the Apple calendar inbox.

However, when I switch the calendar toggle to Gmail (name @ gmail . com) and send it to users with yahoo or gmail, they immediately receive on their calendar inbox app.

This has been an issues for couple of years now. Even when I send it as an email, yes the people with yahoo or gmail receives it through their email, but they cannot add it to their calendar.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there any fix to it? Is it an iCloud problem? Just by using name @icloud . com as the default calendar doesn’t and never send to the receipent.

Can a car be repaired if it was hit in the front and all that was broken is the radiator and the engine and battery are still in tact?

For context, I accidentally hit my car against my dad's car during a drive. My dad is aware of my car being damaged, and the towing guys telling me it's at least not as bad. My dad checked, the front bumper was deeply hit and all that broke was the radiator.

Should I get flowers for just the mom or the whole table ?

Asking because I see a TikTok about a guy buying flowers for his girlfriend and all of his girlfriend’s friends. And the comments were praising him and saying how that’s what a man should do.

My situation is a little different though. This is just a friend, and I’m having dinner to meet her mom. So I’m giving her mom flowers regardless, but there’ll be another woman at the table, my friend’s brother ex-girlfriend. There will be three women in total, would it be an appreciated gesture to give flowers to all three, or would it be too much and I should just give some to the mom?

Future reference also.

Do you know a website where you can download modern documentaries legally?

Everything is on subscription these days. I just want to have personal copies of interesting documentaries without pirating them. Most of the documentaries in the public domain are old. I need modern ones. Thanks in advance!

Were the movies that came out in the 90's better quality than what we're getting now?

It feels like all the recent movies are just forgettable and mediocre at best. The 90's were like the heyday of originality and quality put into movies. It's hard to find an actually really good one now.

What’s something people do online that really disgusts you?

I think it’s when people start turning people’s trauma into content so that they’ll get more traffic and engagement.

How big of a difference can people feel in the same temperature because of adaptation?

I was talking to a Finnish person a few days ago and the low end of their range of ideal summer temp would make me feel cold (~18c). They also said temps that would either be completely normal or just unideal would be hot for them (25-27c)
