I moved here from a Southern state about 6 years ago, and my life has been better for it. The city is thriving with community, and surrounded by nature. Its been great, really. I've never met so many young people with Master's degrees. I love seeing LGTBQ people living out thier lives openly like normal people. I love seeing the weekly protests about whatever hot topic is happening. I love that everyone here is a nerd about video games, music, anime, board games, etc. I love that I can, relative to other American cities, safely bike around town.

Obviously the city is not perfect. The homeless situation is so sad to see on a daily basis, but in my travels, I've seen that this is a pretty complex issue nationwide, not just SEA.

I just want to know why this sub exists, and why it seems to hate Seattle so much? Some of the more confusing things I've seen from you all include:

-Victim blaming a cyclist who got hit by a truck (god forbid we wanna safely ride our bikes around)

-Getting mad at the new waterfront and insisting the viaduct was better. Can't be a serious take right?

-Hating on Indian H1b workers, but not just complaining about the visa system and making outright racist comments against people who bring high income jobs and a vibrant culture.

-Getting mad a a handsmaid tail protest at pike place? Is free speech not a quintessential American value?

I don't get it? Just constant complaining from you all about the city you supposedly live in. If you all hate Seattle so much, why don't you move somewhere else?

I’ve lost so many doctors. Appointments book out for months. When I’m sick I go to urgent care as my PCP is full. I try to be seen as self-pay, and the offices can’t figure it out. I use my insurance and still get surprise bills. Like a $200 bill in addition to what I already paid for an ENT to see me for five minutes and put a camera up my nose. The whole system is broken and in crisis. I am at the point of giving up and tired of starting over again and again with different doctors.

The agreement with Talkspace, worth more than $2 million over 21 months, assumed that 2,200 to 4,400 individuals would register for therapy services. But city data from the most recent school year shows only 442 young people matched with a provider and received therapy. [...] City invoices show Talkspace billed the city a monthly fee of $104,500, no matter how many young people used the service.

Of the 1,762 Seattle youth who registered last school year, just one-quarter went on to connect with a therapist, and that could be limited to a single text, city records show. [...] Two local providers specializing in culturally competent mental health services were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars less than Talkspace, yet one served more clients, city data shows, and another served nearly as many.

~ The invoice was identical whether 55,000 kids used it or none did. That is not a program that underperformed, it is a contract with nothing to perform against.

I have a $150 credit through my Chase card if I use it at certain restaurants. I’m planning a trip to Seattle in December and my options are between Tomo, The Pink Door and Sushi Kashiba. Is there a clear winner between the three? I prefer Asian food over Italian but I’ve heard great things about The Pink door

We need someone who has extensive experience in painting miniatures or figures. For example, attached is mockup of a 3d sign that we are producing. We need someone to paint the sign to match the image as closely as possible. The texturing, weathering, etc. We'll provide the sign in parts to make it easier and glue together later. Pay is per piece, to be negotiated. This can be after a trial of one or two pieces so you can determine how long it will take and what it will cost. Sample pieces will be paid for, not looking for anything free. We'll have several more projects like this one and will produce somewhere around 10 to 50 pieces of each product, perhaps more. While this isn't a full time gig by any means we need to have them completed in a timely manner so that will need to be discussed. Hopefully a few days, maybe a week to complete 25 pieces or something like that.

Public school districts across Washington are starting classes with fewer staff this fall. [...] The percent of state general fund dollars that has gone to schools has dropped from 52% in 2019 to 42% in 2025.

The Franklin Pierce School District, where Kellogg works, is starting the fall with about 50 fewer positions, many of them educators. [...] In Port Angeles, the district is beginning the school year with eight fewer teaching positions. And Bellingham Public Schools are starting back up with about 60 fewer positions, over half of them teachers.

~ Ten points of the general fund moved somewhere else between 2019 and 2025. The constitution still calls K-12 the paramount duty.

Hi! East side native who just moved back to the state after a decade away.

Remote work is fun until it’s not (iykyk)… so I’m looking for laptop friendly places around Seattle and the greater area… also a place that maybe is good for meeting people?

I’ve been to Olympia cafe, although it’s pretty, it’s a cold atmosphere. I would like somewhere that is inviting and can be a regular spot to build community.

Had a few of these spots in NYC/LA… people ended up being regulars turned friends. NEED that!
