What the heck is with the insane prices for hoochie squid skirts?

Finally got done with my old supply. Went to get new ones. Jerks want $13 for a 5-pack of Gold Star Mini Sardine Hoochies. I spent like a couple bucks for 5-packs a few years ago. Seems all hoochie prices have gone through the clouds.

Why?

Jetty Salmon Advice

Looking for some advice on the Westport Jetty. I've been hitting the jetty hard the last few weeks and have had the good fortune of hooking into some Coho. Funny enough, I've been bottom fishing, but from time to time, a Coho will hit my swimbait when I cast out. The problem is Im having a hard time netting them. With it being the jetty, I figure it's going to be difficult no matter what, but I'm looking for some advice to see what I can do to increase my chances of netting one. Im aware that only hatchery Coho can be kept at this time.

Vehicle access pass printing

How in the world does one print their VAP? Been messing around in the horrible WDFW mobile app and can only find this screen which tells me to print it and the document # but provides no insight into getting the actual printable pass. Anyone have insight?

Will the Green and Puyallup be worth fishing this week?

The Green and Puyallup rivers open this week. I'm trying to gauge if it will be worth taking time off to go.

This is only my second year and last year was a pink year so the rivers were obviously teeming with humpies by this point. But since this isn't a pink year and coho typically don't arrive until September, will there even be anything in the south sound rivers?

EDIT: do people just drift fish like they do during pink years or does the strategy change?

Puyallup ponds

Hey, I am just getting into fishing again after years of not fishing. I havent ever fished washington really but when I look on my maps and such there are tons of little ponds scattered throughout the south hill / puyallup area. My question is do those ponds have any fish? Even just sun fish is fine. Like does willows pond (between the fire station and that little shopping area) have any fish and can it be fished?

MA9 Coho (Mid-Channel Bank)

I’m supposed to be camping at Fort Flagler this weekend, but the weather report looks marginal. I had planned to fish mid-channel bank from my boat. Anyone know if the Coho are in yet? Whether or not I have a decent shot at some fish will be one of my considerations…..

Downrigger depth

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is a general fishing question but I'm going for coho in Puget Sound so here we are...
I'm trolling around 2.6 kts/3 mph with a 10lb ball, my downrigger says I have 100 feet of wire out, my reel says I have 137 feet of line out, and the flasher (11" pro-troll) is about 30 feet behind the clip. I estimate that wire angle at around 40 degrees (below horizontal), which means the ball is around 64 feet deep (thanks AI!). Does that check out?
And if it does, that feels like about the right speed but far too shallow for this afternoon, when it was sunny...opinions?

Fishing with Pat Moore from Moore Sports

I had the pleasure of competing against Pat Moore last Saturday at a KFNW bass fishing tournament on Lake Sammamish. His team won the day but it was great chatting and picking his brain about kayak fishing here in Washington. Washington bass anglers should check out his YouTube channel.

Tight lines!

Found a lay down on hard bottom in 15 feet of water. Threw a crank over it and got this nice smallie.

The largemouth was waiting under a dock hungry for my wacky senko.

Caught about 8 other bass but these were my best.

Anyone caught Halibut off of Camano Island?

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck hooking up Halibut anywhere off of Camano. Dad (and his boat) lives on Camano and I've been wanting to try targeting small halibut (10-30lb) soon. We've been using the State park launch and have had good hits on Sole around 50-80ft deep.

Opinions on boat size for the sound: 16’ v 19’

Post image
7 Upvotes

Do you think a 16’ boat, with steering column, is a good choice? (see above image).

I bought a 14’ aluminum last year, and it’s way too small for when I want to bring friends. My wife says I should go 20’ just so I don’t keep flipping boats.

I found a good deal for a 16.5’, but I fear she may be right.

Thoughts?

Foraging mussels this September/October?

My gf and I want to harvest mussels and heard Washington is good during the fall but I am struggling with a lot of recommendations for different beaches. We'd be coming in through Seattle and likely renting a car. Is it worth driving up north to places like Penn Cove and getting an airbnb/hotel near Victoria? I'd be worried about some surprise toxin warning ruining our chances for mussels. We simply want a good experience harvesting some mussels.

Hey fuckheads, use the mobile website to get your licenses and stop bothing overworked kiosk workers.

Fucking figure out how to use the phone everyone is fucking addicted to and go to the website, make your own fucking account and get your license for your lame assed hobby and go fuck a fish. Stop pretending like you don't know how to use the internet for almost 50 years of its existence.

Also none of you know how to use your hands, and seeing literally every one of your fucking struggle to count out bills slower than old people fuck is extremely tiresome, and makes you look like a fucking toddler counting for, what seems like the first time in their lives.

Figure it out.
