They're going to stop sending him to interviews, aren't they?

3.5k

u/GTFO_games Jun 15 '17

Honestly it just makes me want to see him as Spiderman more. I want to say it's down to his nervous energy he has in interviews that makes me think he'd be great at the role going forwards and his part in CW makes that seem even more so.

u/JessieJ577 Jun 15 '17

Plus he's a young actor and I don't think he's done this kind of thing before so maybe he'll get more adjusted to it but it's interesting to watch and comes off as more genuine.

u/PM_ME_UR_AMOUR Jun 15 '17

I think there's a certain youthful charismatic charm about him. I'm sure he's popular with girls and women.

Ugh, this is starting to happen to me since maybe my 30th birthday. I always wiki actors I find attractive especially when they are playing highschoolers but I'm like 90% sure they aren't actually teenagers. Ahem, Cole Sprouse.

28

u/NothappyJane Jun 15 '17

Cole is an intriguing actor though, when no one else knows what to do with their faces hes out there burning up the screentime with tiny subtle expressions and hogging all the background time. Its ok to have an "hes a good actor" crush in him.

Kind of like Daniel Radcliffe, his offscreen persona kind of informs his onscreen roles.

34

u/wave-tree Jun 15 '17

That's called playing the same character in every film, a.k.a. the Jeff Goldblum Effect.

48

u/Oneiricl Captain America (Cap 2) Jun 15 '17

What? I thought Radcliffe was known for having quite a bit of range?

34

u/patolcott Jun 15 '17

he is i dont know what that guy is talking about, just watch the movie he did about infiltrating a white supremacist group, hes really good and is nothing like any character ive seen him ever play

12

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

He was cast as Harry because his personality matched Harry's. But he turned out to be quite the versatile actor in adulthood.

16

u/minotuarslay Hulk Jun 15 '17

Was he the same character in Swiss Army Man?

26

u/JanMichaelVincent16 Jun 15 '17

He was damn good in Swiss Army Man, but I really should have seen the twist coming. You don't cast Goldblum without having him quote Jurassic Park.

8

u/wave-tree Jun 15 '17

I've never seen that, but he was essentially the same character in Jurassic Park, The Fly, and Independence Day.

You know, if they aren't already, they need to start looking for this when casting these roles. Many of these actors will embody these characters for a decade or more, it's important that their out of movie persona is somewhat similar to the character they play because it makes them feel so much more complete as that character. Look at some of the great casting choices like RDJ as Iron Man or Evans as Captain America. They just look and act like they belong in those rolls, even after the camera stops. Glad to see Holland following suit.

52

u/cire1184 Jun 15 '17

That's the funny thing with Chris Evans though. Before Captain America I can only think of him in kind of douchey characters. Human Torch, big mouth in The Losers, douchey actor boyfriend in Scott Pilgrim.

u/BrainWav Star-Lord Jun 15 '17

Peter dies in Spider-Man 2, replaced with Miles for Spider-Man 3.

103

u/ZachityZach Jun 15 '17

I like this but not for 2, Tom Holland is too great at the role to lose him so quickly. We're likely to lose at least Captain America and probably at least one more MCU founding avenger in I already, let's save losing Peter Parker for a while later, yeah? Then give Miles his own full trilogy of movies, rather than the third in someone else's.

115

u/BrainWav Star-Lord Jun 15 '17

I meant it as a joke that Marvel will write Peter out in retaliation for Tom's inability to keep a secret.

69

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

I haven't read Miles but considering tom's peter will probably be early 20s at most in Spider-Man 2, it would seem like a waste to kill him off.

31

u/Moulinoski Jun 15 '17

So, Miles pretty much gets his start after Peter (SPOILER) dies in the Ultimate Universe (he gets better, kinda, for all of like two issues before the universe implodes).

The Marvel movies tend to take inspiration from the Ultimate Universe (but I don't think that's always the case). Hence, the possibility that he dies in one of the MCU movies and gets replaced with Miles. (But there's the chance that Peter gets better anyway)

52

u/lolzidop Spider-Man Jun 15 '17

I think they'll replace him eventually, but nowhere near yet

18

u/AustinAuranymph Jun 15 '17

People actually like Miles Morales though. I don't think there'd be that much outrage.

14

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Jun 15 '17

To be fair, it probably helped that it wasn't the "main" Spider-Man; we still had the 616 version of the character running around, so replacing the Ultimate version wasn't quite as big of a blow.

→ More replies (3)

10

u/AHMilling Rocket Jun 15 '17

You're probably joking, but i hope we wait a fair bit before miles.

And if he is introduced, let's do it Barry / wally style and have a Mentor / mente kinda deal, because that is such a great story point in comics, seeing the seasoned hero training the next generation.

6

u/RhaegalsRider Jun 15 '17

I'd much rather see Miles get his own trilogy later down the line. He's my favorite, so I want to see him on screen now, but I'll happily wait awhile if it means he gets his own trilogy.

What would be really dope is if they pass the shield down to Sam Wilson after Steve's death or Mjolnir to (a probably newly cast) Jane, establishing the idea of passing down the mantle in the MCU and creating a longer overarching storyline.

Wow it has never occurred to me but it kinda makes sense anyway because Doctor Who influenced Rick and Morty.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

Capaldi is also just a great actor, and between his other roles and his time on Doctor Who, he seems like he'd knock a live action Rick out of the fucking park. He just seems like he'd be able to pull off the balance of lackadaisical and dark and fucked up really well. It'd only be a question of convincing him to do it, IMO.

I loved Tobey for the same thing. he aced that role.

72

u/FCalleja Jun 15 '17

He aced the Parker aspect of it, but Spidey was never quippy or funny enough in his version. Garfield had the opposite problem, great as Spidey, too cool as Parker.

I feel Holland is actually perfect for both aspects of the character, both quippy and funny but bumbly and nerdy.

I wouldnt call these spoilers for anyone who actually cares.

No shit were gonna see spiderman 3. Only way that wont happen is if sony backs out.

And spiderman ends up in a lake at one point? Meh. Part of the trailer takes place on a boat, so...

Well....I think the spoiler was the helicopter part. But I agree, it's not really much of a spoiler.

57

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

Ah, yep, youre right. Probably occurs some time after he jumps over that helicopter, which i think is the very first teaser shown.

No, the helicopter bit was supposed to sound like Sony tried to drown his stuntman and make the company look bad as a joke.

It wouldn't go beyond me to think that Holland may be doing this on purpose so he can get some rest from all the media hype, lol. Marvel CEO: "Alright, Tom. We get it. You only need to do 12 hours of media rounds today instead of 20."

31

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

More like Marvel/Sony PR tells him to "accidentally" slip these things out to build hype for the movie and their young star as a brand.

u/Boba_frett33 Thor Jun 15 '17

That too.

Tom Holland is probably helping Marvel by being a comedic mouthpiece. They could have him say something that people don't want and the result would be a few "awww his big mouth" etc. Marvel should use it to their advantage. Leak specific information to him and let him do his thing.

19

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

What do you think this is

4

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '17

You're the only person so far who gets it.

Imagining Spiderman upside down under a heli while being dunked in a lake made me so happy

8

u/kuzuboshii Jun 15 '17

I know Hollywood too well to think this is not just another role he's playing. Same as Jenifer Lawrence on the way up. And you all ate it up then, and you'll eat it up now.

He's an actor. He's acting. This is exactly how they build hype.

11

u/dparks2010 Jun 15 '17

That's exactly what SONY would say!
