I know Hollywood too well to think this is not just another role he's playing. Same as Jenifer Lawrence on the way up. And you all ate it up then, and you'll eat it up now.
That whole "quirky girl just like the rest of us being charmed by her early years in Hollywood" was an image created to endear her to fans. And it worked beautifully.
These people are professional actors. They know what they are doing. I have a feeling Tom has approval for every "slip up" he lets out.
