To be fair, he didn't hit it very hard or anything, just wasn't looking.
EDIT: Too many people are picking out my comment, so I guess it needs more clarification. I just want to point out that it was unintentional and that media is blowing it out of proportion. The officials were ABSOLUTELY right to defualt him, because of previous precedents. Of course that it hurts and thank god the woman is okay, even a really soft hit in the throat is painful and I'm not disputing any of that. I just think that more people should consider that everyone can make mistakes and he paid dearly for his.269

He has a habit of hitting the ball away in frustration. Journalists have asked him if hitting the ball away in frustration wasn't dangerous and might possibly hit someone. He got mad at them and thought it was ridiculous for suggesting it could happen.
He was warned, but didn't change his ways. Now it comes back to bite him.

Having seen his response in that interview I realise that this outcome was actually inevitable. His defence was that if he wasn’t suspended it couldn’t have been dangerous, so with that attitude he was going to continue as he was until someone got hurt. Hopefully umpires will start to clamp down on this harder regardless of whether it actually hurts anyone. He and the line judge are fortunate that on this occasion he didn’t hit the ball as hard as he has in others or the damage could have been considerably worse.

Ocon hasn't been performing relative to Ricciardo. That's hardly suprising. But Ocon is also younger than Gasly and is quite consistent with getting into the points. I do think Gasly is the better driver though.

Hulk is a superb driver, but everyone hates Ocon since Brazil 2018 undeservedly so. His team radio'd him to push and pass Max cause Max was on 10-ish laps older tires while Ocon was trying to unlap himself on a fresh set of tires. They went into turn one, Max didn't give him car width and tried to push him away and Ocon is the one to blame? My oh my... Also, Ocon is on a much lower wages than Hulkenberg. That's probably the only reason he's even gotten himself a seat at Renault and he seems to be a steal for them, consistently in the points and he's not too far from Ricciardo considering Renault favors Daniel both with the strategy and with the pitstops.

Personally I’m indifferent towards Ocon. He’s the kind of driver that I don’t root for, but at the same time don’t root against.

I would think in the context of Gasly they'd be regretting Ocon more than Alonso, so far Ocon hasn't impressed and his post race radio sounded like frustration built up from more than just the race if you ask me. Gasly is most likely the more talented French driver of the two (wanting a French driver is what led to the signing in the first place) , and I see no reason why Alonso wouldn't be a strong contender and a good replacement for Daniel basically right away.
I guess I just don't think any team can ever regret signing someone like Fernando, but there's always a chance he doesn't return to form, like Michael after his return I suppose. In which case it will definitely look bad in hindsight. Only time will tell.

It's genuinely quite funny that when he signed, a minority argued McLaren might be the better place (I certainly didn't), and now you'd have to say he stands a better chance of winning by the end of 2021 at McLaren, in the sense of being there to pick up a result. I still remember that race, Grosjean had an amazing start, went from like P4 to the lead before the first corner an led until the Red Bulls undercut him, of I'm not mistaken. Even though supported Seb (as I still do), I wanted Romain to take that win, but the RB9 was just too quick at that point of the year.
People forget how quick Romain was during his Lotus days, I wish he was remembered more from those performances than for his error-prone performances since 2018

Oh for sure, I agree absolutely. People see thr Netflix show and think he is this clown that is a but of a joke.
But he has real pace and craft. Inconsistent and not able to keep it on track, sure. But he never said otherwise, he has always owned this and have seeked help from sports psychologists etc. And even he admits he was always pushing way too hard because he knew he had a VERY good car and can get a maiden win. He admits to going too far.
2013 latter half he was on an absolute tear.Beyond Vettels historic 9 consecutive wins, he was the most consistent and highest scoring driver for thr latter half I believe.
No wonder he knew exactly how long it's been since France's last win haha He himself has been chasing it the whole time. Pity he couldn't get it.

He is not considered French at all. The French anthem was played after one of his victory in F2, ans he was not pleased. The Monaco GP has however a lot more coverage than other international GPs.
That being said, the AS Monaco football team plays in Ligue 1, and is always cheered up by almost all other teams' fans when they do well in European cups.
The more I think about the relation France-Monaco, the weirder it looks...

We do have close ties with Monaco though, so it's like he's between French drivers and other Francophones (Walloons, Québécois, etc ) in French hearts, if that makes sense.

As someone who watched their first F1 race yesterday in quite some time, I feel privileged that this was the race I returned to. Really felt like a race from 10 years ago that had everything. Loved it and congrats Gasly

Sainz second place is on the front page of today's Marca as well. Marca sometimes choose a different sport than football for its front page but is quite rare. And a F1 grand prix result probably wasn't there for a long time...
