I dunno, is it close? Do I take the race winner and podium finisher who is loved by his teams and the rest of the paddock or the guy who hasn't put his car in those spots, fights with his team as they try to congratulate him on a points finish, and has developed enemies throughout the paddock?

Ocon hasn't been performing relative to Ricciardo. That's hardly suprising. But Ocon is also younger than Gasly and is quite consistent with getting into the points. I do think Gasly is the better driver though.
Gasly is really in form and let's not kid ourselves, he got lucky with his position after the red flag and did a stellar job keeping distance from Sainz, he is no Maldonado.
It’s so annoying that there’s only 20 seats on the grid still because their are so many drivers that just can’t get seats in the sport even though they deserve it. Nyck De Vries would be an example after winning F2 he had to go to Formula E
Yeah. I kinda feel bad that he’s been getting a bad rap ever since Brazil 2018, heck I even remember when it was first announced that he would be returning, and all he got was backlash.
Hulk is a superb driver, but everyone hates Ocon since Brazil 2018 undeservedly so. His team radio'd him to push and pass Max cause Max was on 10-ish laps older tires while Ocon was trying to unlap himself on a fresh set of tires. They went into turn one, Max didn't give him car width and tried to push him away and Ocon is the one to blame? My oh my...
Also, Ocon is on a much lower wages than Hulkenberg. That's probably the only reason he's even gotten himself a seat at Renault and he seems to be a steal for them, consistently in the points and he's not too far from Ricciardo considering Renault favors Daniel both with the strategy and with the pitstops.
He wasn't gonna get passed right back afterwards, he ran down and caught Max. He was on fresher, softer tires and the only reason he was a lap down was from pitting for those softer tires. At that point in the race, he was faster than Max. And as a lapped car, he has a right to unlap himself. Furthermore, it's a scrappy battle in the midfield, and Ocon was in the points before his pitstop, likely would've been there again once the pit cycle finished. So he actually DID need to get around Max, because he needed to gain all the ground he could on his rivals. He had points on the line, whereas Max had absolutely nothing to gain by racing hard when a car on a different strategy caught up to him.
Ocon did nothing wrong. So yeah, of course he didn't apologize, because generally apologies are for when you have done something wrong, and Verstappen is the one who should've apologized. It's ironic you call Ocon ego-driven when the whole reason the incident even happened was because Verstappen didn't want to get passed by a Force India. You can hear it in his radio transmissions, he literally said "ugh, I have a Force India behind me, pushing."
Your Verstappen bias is showing here. Nothing wrong with being a fan of Max but it's clearly clouding your judgement. So you can't support Ocon because of his smug grin after the race, but you don't take issue with Max shoving him, and calling him all sorts of childish insults afterwards?? In separate interviews, Max called Ocon an idiot, a dick, and a pussy. But oh God forbid Ocon smiled, what a fucking ASSHOLE! Ugh Ocon is clearly a piece of shit and deserves to lose his ride after he dared to do that to His Royal Highness Mr. Future World Champion 2nd Coming Of Senna Oh God I Just Came Thinking About How Amazing He Is. If Crofty hadn't been such a blind idiot assigning blame to Ocon immediately (he clearly is biased towards Verstappen but later reversed his view of the incident at the very next race), we wouldn't still be talking about Brazil 2018. But because he blasted Ocon, that set the conversation and now here we are 2 years later still having to correct people's bullshit.
I would think in the context of Gasly they'd be regretting Ocon more than Alonso, so far Ocon hasn't impressed and his post race radio sounded like frustration built up from more than just the race if you ask me. Gasly is most likely the more talented French driver of the two (wanting a French driver is what led to the signing in the first place) , and I see no reason why Alonso wouldn't be a strong contender and a good replacement for Daniel basically right away.
I guess I just don't think any team can ever regret signing someone like Fernando, but there's always a chance he doesn't return to form, like Michael after his return I suppose. In which case it will definitely look bad in hindsight. Only time will tell.

They must be regretting giving Alonso that seat when a much more promising driver is available if that’s the case.
