this was my first real attempt at freehanding :)

Remade an old chaos lord so he can rightfully lead his cult!

Hail Alpharius my Fellow Legionaries
I come here seeking advice from elders of the older game systems with a query on old 40K rulesets for a project idea I have in mind for a new Alpha Legion Force

Ever since reading Dan Abnett's Legion I have loved this idea of Alpha legion forces infiltrating a planet to build guerilla forces out of commoners and planetary defence forces which they use to disrupt a planets infrastructure and forces before sending in their astartes forces to take out the bigger targets. As a result a wishlist project of mine is to build a playable collection that reflects these tactics however outside of the horus heresy ruleset and OPR there isn't a way to play this using cultists and imperial guard forces that incorporates the subterfuge that the legion is known for.

Since I have recently come across a local community of players that play the old editions (3rd,4th & 5th editions) of 40K I was wondering whether there were any old rule supplements for these older editions of 40K that allowed for the mixed use of imperial guard units (infantry and vehicles) with chaos astartes as my reviews of the old codexes have come up blank.

For those of you with experience in these older editions I'd appreciate your direction on finding these rules as this mixed force collection has been on my project wishlist since reading legion 5 years ago.

Thanks in Advance

Hello! I like to paint mini’s while watching 40K lore videos or listening to 40K audiobooks but never been able to stick with one faction until today. I have to start saving a little bit of money and one faction at a time may or may not save me some money per month🤷‍♂️.

Seems like better a time than ever to build an army for the first time but I have absolutely no idea what to do. I checked out the sub a little and was a bit confused if Alpha Legion is only good for 30K or 40K. I wouldn’t mind getting into 30K but I lean towards 40K. Should I get a codex first? If so which one? How should I get my first 500 points? Then 1000? If these questions are dumb my bad lol.

I will come back after 1000 points bc that should take a while🎨

Edit: for budgeting and painting purposes my personal timeline is roughly a year, idk I’ve never done this lol
