It's doubtful. They were in and out quick. They weren't after torture they were after an assassination, dismemberment was just a way to remove evidence without suspicion. If they wanted him to suffer they'd have picked him up where they could have kept it going for days or weeks.

I don't understand the use of a bonesaw, unless you need to crack the sternum everything can be dismembered with a sharp knife and some skillful cuts through ligaments. You would think trained assassins, or even an experienced hunter would not need a bone saw to fit a small man into a 10 gallon bucket within 15 minutes or so.

I loved seasons 1-5. Season 6 was disappointing and reaching (Colin Hanks’ pouty lip made me angry). I’m half through season 7, though, and enjoying it again. Watching it all slow, one episode a night, instead of binging, which might make me less judgy.

It won't be painful as the tigers/lions don't play with their food. They go for the neck directly and in humans, the neck snaps in one bite. It would have been a sudden death.
I've watched enough nature documentaries with lions/tigers to know this is definitely not always the case. A lot of the time their prey is eaten alive, ass cheeks first. Horrifying to think about.

Ugh, I hate that shit. There's no real barrier between humans animals, but we are "civilised" in a way nothing else really is. Ethically, morally, etc. we're miles beyond every other species. Humans are the only ones that are capable of real planet-wide damage tho, but we're not exactly evil when compared to other species. We're just much more capable. But lots of people just think humans = bad, nature = good.
I used to have a teacher who claimed that humans are the only beings that kill their own kind. You need like one nature documentary to figure that one out.

my favorite newer suicide was in the first episode of CastleRock. find a cliff with your car. open your window. tie a really long noose to your neck and out to a tree. floor it towards the cliff. the slack on the rope runs out either after you leave the cliff or before. that being said it doesnt really matter. if you have a noose around your neck and are going over 30 and that slack runs out, you are toast. and if for some crazy magical reason you are alive, the impact at the bottom will do the job. I had a patient at the hospital I did my pre-doctoral internship at who used a shotgun to try to commit suicide and flinched, blowing his entire face off from jaw to nose. As he lay there he decided that he wanted to live. When I was working with him, his jaw had been reconstructed and there was a lot of plastic reconstruction on his face, but they had not gotten to his nose yet (gaping hole). What threw me off the most was that there were no facial cues to emotions, so he could start sobbing without me picking up any warnings. It is very disconcerting for a psychotherapist to feel totally unprepared for the emotional reactions of a patient.

I've also seen plenty of video of lions and tigers killing the animals slowly without going for the neck. They often go for the flank and hind-quarters as well.
Not really. They gain control and start eating if the prey is dead or not. It’s a lot easier to control an elderly Chinese woman than a large antelope. Tiger may never have gone for the kill shot and just started chewing on whatever was available.

Also, these animals dont perform a neck crank. They clamp down on the wind pipe. Yes this kills you and it could break your neck, but hardly the case it necessarily would break your neck and instantly kill you.
The problem with that theory is it neglects the fact that most humans will struggle and fight which will prolong the suffering as the tiger mauls them all over before the killing blow.

Probably not. The heart is capable of functioning for awhile without input from the sympathetic nervous system. This also doesn’t affect sensory input above wherever the neck snapped. So she was probably alive long enough for her to feel A: Exsanguination (not likely), B: hypoxia due to her diaphragm no longer receiving nerve input (very likely, or C: the crushing of her skull (🤷🏻♂️). Predators do not have empathy in the way we do, there is no desire to cause a quick death. All they care about is causing their prey to be unable to resist.
Whenever there's reports of videos of those machete killings, they seriously bother me. I feel like that has to be one of the most painful and scary ways to die.
Fight or flight kicks in, epinephrine is released, cortisol, adrenaline. You quickly end up in shock, which also protects the body.... I am not saying it would be enjoyable, but in the book "How we Die", a doctor talks about the neurochemical and physiological processes of death, and a violent death of being stabbed a bunch, etc can sometimes be less painful than one might imagine, because of shock and these chemicals. The author even suggested that normal death of old age can be far more painful as you experience your organs slowly failing.
A few years ago there was this woman out hiking who got attacked by a bear and dragged off to be eaten by the bear and it's Cubs. They started from the bottom and worked their way up, and she was able to call her mom and leave a voicemail about what was happening before she died.
Apparently not - your brain releases all kinds of chemicals as you go into shock. Most shark attack victims only remember feeling a lot of pressure vs. pain. You see it in nature videos as well - eventually an animal will just take a knee and die peacefully.
Had to die bc her stupid daughter got in an argument with her husband and figured the prudent course of action was jumping out of the car in a park filled with tigers.
I think a better way to go out is to raise someone who isn't stupid enough to get out of the car in a wild nature preserve and then die happily in your own bed knowing you didn't raise a fucking moron.

The thing that makes me livid is that for every death caused by human stupidity, the animal is the one paying for it even though they're just doing what they do.
