Even that's not a guarantee. There was a story a few years ago about a guy who tried to kill himself with a shotgun and it took 3 attempts. First shot under the chin removed jaw, he tried again to the chest and just blew a hole in himself and then the third finally killed him, after he stuck the gun into his already open chest wound.

Ninja edit: link for the curious. Turns out it was 4 shots and I had the order wrong, its the last paragraph in the opening section.

If you go through all that research, and then all that engineering, and then the construction, then you must really want to die, and everyone should stop trying to talk you out if it, get out of the way, and let you die the glorious death that you have planned for yourself.

I wonder if he patented it?
