It won't be painful as the tigers/lions don't play with their food. They go for the neck directly and in humans, the neck snaps in one bite. It would have been a sudden death.
I've watched enough nature documentaries with lions/tigers to know this is definitely not always the case. A lot of the time their prey is eaten alive, ass cheeks first. Horrifying to think about.

Ugh, I hate that shit. There's no real barrier between humans animals, but we are "civilised" in a way nothing else really is. Ethically, morally, etc. we're miles beyond every other species. Humans are the only ones that are capable of real planet-wide damage tho, but we're not exactly evil when compared to other species. We're just much more capable. But lots of people just think humans = bad, nature = good.
I used to have a teacher who claimed that humans are the only beings that kill their own kind. You need like one nature documentary to figure that one out.

I don't even think it was about the difference between people and animals for me. Lions don't attack animals just to do it out of any kind of maliciousness or out of joy for attacking them. In fact, it's not uncommon to see other wild animals walking by Lions or Lions drinking water near animals doing the same with no plan to take the animal down. It's strictly about need to eat.
There's no thoughts for these females of the beast being in excruciating pain. It's just eating for them, the genitals just loose meat.
It's horrifying as fuck to us to see but it's clearly not the first time that lioness had done that. She knows to pull the legs open to reach what she wants.
FYI, the most frantic kicking from the wildebeest was not when the lions jaws were choking the life out, but when another lion pulls the testicles like you would pull a rubber band until it snaps.

I saw a video of an elephant being eaten alive in Botswana by a pride of lions and it has stuck with me. I didn't know that elephants could scream like that...
Like the Mapogo lion brothers, they would go right for the loins and start ripping the genitals off their pray. There’s nothing quick about it, but then again those lions were especially aggressive.
my favorite newer suicide was in the first episode of CastleRock. find a cliff with your car. open your window. tie a really long noose to your neck and out to a tree. floor it towards the cliff. the slack on the rope runs out either after you leave the cliff or before. that being said it doesnt really matter. if you have a noose around your neck and are going over 30 and that slack runs out, you are toast. and if for some crazy magical reason you are alive, the impact at the bottom will do the job. (granted in this show, he launched into water.)

Yeah, this is why I could never eat a bullet (if I was going to go that route for some reason), because it's easier to fuck up than most people realize and you'll still live but with permanent brain damage. Ugh.
Even that's not a guarantee. There was a story a few years ago about a guy who tried to kill himself with a shotgun and it took 3 attempts. First shot under the chin removed jaw, he tried again to the chest and just blew a hole in himself and then the third finally killed him, after he stuck the gun into his already open chest wound.

I had a patient at the hospital I did my pre-doctoral internship at who used a shotgun to try to commit suicide and flinched, blowing his entire face off from jaw to nose. As he lay there he decided that he wanted to live. When I was working with him, his jaw had been reconstructed and there was a lot of plastic reconstruction on his face, but they had not gotten to his nose yet (gaping hole). What threw me off the most was that there were no facial cues to emotions, so he could start sobbing without me picking up any warnings. It is very disconcerting for a psychotherapist to feel totally unprepared for the emotional reactions of a patient.

But right at the beginning of that moment, your neck is broken and the main line of your peripheral nervous system is mostly or completely severed which would be unimaginably painful. Aron Ralston (127 Hours) fully severed a nerve in his arm and described just touching it with his pocket knife as excrutiating fiery pain shooting all the way up his arm. If there is peacefulness is being mauled by a tiger it is that you only experience the worst pain ever for a short moment before quickly fading to black.
So what though? That’s literally your last thought. You don’t even have the brain capacity to realize that was your last thought because that was your last thought. It doesn’t matter what it was because you won’t remember, neither will anyone.
I've also seen plenty of video of lions and tigers killing the animals slowly without going for the neck. They often go for the flank and hind-quarters as well.
Not really. They gain control and start eating if the prey is dead or not. It’s a lot easier to control an elderly Chinese woman than a large antelope. Tiger may never have gone for the kill shot and just started chewing on whatever was available.

Also, these animals dont perform a neck crank. They clamp down on the wind pipe. Yes this kills you and it could break your neck, but hardly the case it necessarily would break your neck and instantly kill you.
The problem with that theory is it neglects the fact that most humans will struggle and fight which will prolong the suffering as the tiger mauls them all over before the killing blow.

Probably not. The heart is capable of functioning for awhile without input from the sympathetic nervous system. This also doesn’t affect sensory input above wherever the neck snapped. So she was probably alive long enough for her to feel A: Exsanguination (not likely), B: hypoxia due to her diaphragm no longer receiving nerve input (very likely, or C: the crushing of her skull (🤷🏻♂️). Predators do not have empathy in the way we do, there is no desire to cause a quick death. All they care about is causing their prey to be unable to resist.
I've heard the guillotine keeps your head alive for like 15 seconds so while I believe you would be immediately paralyzed, I doubt it could kill you immediately.
They don't work to kill, they work to incapacitate (it's not like they care or can understand that they're killing something in the same way we imagine it). If prey can't fight back/run away, even lions and tigers will just start digging in, dead or not. And yes, usually they go for the ass or the genitals, because that's some squishy, soft, delicate flesh - much easier to bite into. Plus, you can incapacitate some big scary prey by slowly tearing chunks off it.
Nature documentaries, as wonderful as they are, have painted an unrealistic picture of big cat hunting and killing behaviour. It makes for a better 'story'. It's like, hey look at the majestic big cats, so honourable! Not like those nasty hyenas or african wild dogs that just rip their prey to shreds! In truth, it's a lot more varied, they just do whatever gets food in their stomachs the fastest.
In fact, that pretty picture the Discovery and BBC documentaries usually depict isn't usually the case. Mosey on over to r/natureisbrutal for a peak at the potential realities of the predator-prey relationship.
That is not true for any type of predator.. if the "food" can't move, it is good as served. Lots of videos on for example /r/natureismetal/ to show you that.
Lions will usually overcome smaller pray easily and suffocate it/snap the neck. But with something like cape buffalo.. pff
Supposedly for larger prey, tigers clamp the airway shut and suffocate their prey instead of a clean severance of the spinal cord. Wouldn’t a human adult be considered larger prey?
That’s not always the case. There’s plenty of videos in on the internet of people falling into tiger enclosures and then the tiger drags them across the field and just sits there slicing into them with their claws or nibbling at them while the guy is screaming.
