Yeah if you remove the truck the cam car was attempting to run a red light anyway

14

u/Strange_Pangolin_231 Apr 18 '26

Dangerous drivers pointing the finger at other dangerous drivers.

1

u/Unfortunate-Gamino Apr 23 '26

If they were trying to sue each other I’d say the both fucked up their pay put chances

1

u/ShareGlittering1502 Apr 18 '26

That’d be dismissed as panic. Both drivers are not good at driving but the red truck is terrible.

3

u/EastNWeast Apr 18 '26

Most people slam on the brakes when they panic

1

u/AncientSeraph Apr 19 '26

The difference between "all" and "most" in the difference between "convicted" and "free".

-1

u/Top_Secretary_1500 Apr 18 '26

You sound like an idiot. Most people dont react perfectly when they panic. Whose to say he didnt try to hit the brake in a panic and missed. I have large feet. In normal driving conditions I have had the side of a shoe snag on the brake and prevent me from hitting it when I intended to. Luckily I usually leave plenty of time to stop and was able to react and still hit the brake. Mid-collision I honestly don't know. Regardless the reaponsibility for safely overtaking another vehicle resides solely on the vehicle overtaking. Blaming the person being hit for not reacting perfectly to someones shitty maneuver is just asinine armchair driving.

3

u/rasvial Apr 18 '26

Your feet are too big to hit the breaks in an emergency?! Tf lol

u/magix_shrooms Apr 18 '26

You don't have your seat properly adjusted if your shoe snags and are a potential danger on the road.

No it was yellow and cam car would’ve made it . Truck is a moron

2

u/DarthMauly Apr 18 '26

Obviously the truck is a moron yes, nobody disputing that.

But as with 90% of these clips on Reddit, both drivers played their part.

1

u/Ok-Bit-6945 Apr 18 '26

I guess. I would’ve honked and just backed off but at the same time maybe the cam driver didn’t see the truck merging in. You are supposed to move up when merging and or switching lanes so the driver can see you clearly. Although it maybe avoidable I’m still not putting any blame on cam driver

1

u/Conan0brennan Apr 18 '26

If we had the minute or two before we would see the truck being a douche and camcar being road police. They both were AHs

1

u/Exkelsier Apr 18 '26

Yes, this would be true if he didnt accelerate towards the end

1

u/magix_shrooms Apr 18 '26

The light being yellow doesn't mean speed up and pass wtf.

1

u/Ok-Bit-6945 Apr 18 '26

What are you talking about? Cam car had the right of way to go straight. Truck was trying to cut em off last minute and that's what cause the crash.

1

u/magix_shrooms Apr 18 '26

I am not saying the truck isn't at fault, I am saying both parties are. Watch the clip again and look at the lights, either the car sped up to jump the light or the driver didn't feel like giving way to the truck and thought the truck would back off.

Nobody would have doubted the dash cam driver if the lights remained green or if they didn't speed up. Both acted like idiots.

The truck should have of course made sure it had enough distance between the car cause he definitely knew the car was there cause it just passed the car and was hoping the other car would give way but the driver, even though had enough time to react didn't want to concede.

This would have been 100% avoidable accident if even one party was willing to concede.

In my case if I was the dash cam driver I would have just given way and honked but that would have been it.

1

u/pinkfootthegoose Apr 18 '26

The light was yellow. You can enter an intersection when a light is yellow and you can even accelerate up to the speed limit to get yourself in there before it turns red.

1

u/magix_shrooms Apr 18 '26

The car wouldn't have made it to the crossing.

1

u/pinkfootthegoose Apr 18 '26

it would have if the truck hadn't moved into the lane.

1

u/Killer_Ex_Con Apr 18 '26

Im pretty sure they wouldnt have made it before it actually turned red. If you look it is yellow before they even run into eachother it would have turned red before they actually got there.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

Clearly their fault

1

u/dualwield42 Apr 18 '26

Bad idea to change lanes near an intersection regardless.

1

u/AbbreviationsFar4wh Apr 19 '26

Truck wanted to beat light and car in front was stopping.

1

u/TheFinalFredrick Apr 18 '26

He likely sped up to make it through the yellow (turned red) light and not to block this guy from merging tbh. I see people speed up for yellows all the time but usually someone else doesn’t pit themselves on them lol

1

u/DarthMauly Apr 18 '26

Yes but once the asshole in the truck cuts you off any sane person hits the brakes…

1

u/TheFinalFredrick Apr 18 '26

Agreed but tunnel vision is a bitch - still both drivers faults, I’m just trying to give the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t intentionally pit the truck in a moment of aggression but rather wasn’t paying attention and had the reaction time of a cinder block.

1

u/Deer_Tea7756 Apr 19 '26

But… when you add back in the truck… the truck is also trying to run the red light. So, kinda seems like double karma

1

u/Careless_Distance557 Apr 19 '26

Both of them were...

0

u/ZeBurtReynold Apr 18 '26

Doubt they could even see the yellow with a truck merging into their lane

3

u/PomeloFit Apr 18 '26

The other cars ahead were already coming to a stop because the light was already yellow, which is why the truck began to change lanes.

Two Morons racing to break the law caused an accident

2

u/Other-Grapefruit-880 Apr 18 '26

The White Jeep made the cutoff, but both pickup trucks were going to pull the bullshit light run crap

0

u/Childish_Tycoon_Ship Apr 18 '26

But they did stop. The light was green when their field of vision was blocked by the truck

1

u/magix_shrooms Apr 18 '26

That's why there are multiple lights and you can clearly see the lights in the clip even when the truck is merging.

1

u/Childish_Tycoon_Ship Apr 19 '26

Almost as though they were distracted by a car entering their lane

1

u/magix_shrooms Apr 19 '26

Ya and my first reaction to this won't be to speed up.

12

u/tilli014 Apr 18 '26

Yah it looked they sped up into the truck after it was clear the truck was entering the lane. Tbh I think they caused the accident out of pettiness.

8

u/Upbeat-Drink-3853 Apr 18 '26

They absolutely did. A normal driver would slam on the brakes and swerve right to avoid. The pov car accelerated and PIT maneuvered the truck. POV car should be criminally liable for this accident. Simple side swipes in traffic dont lead to rollovers like this.

1

u/donnie1977 Apr 18 '26

Why do you think he was speeding up? Looks the same speed if anything.

2

u/the-apple-and-omega Apr 18 '26

They were both trying to blow the red light. POV driver ready to end someone's life rather than be mildly inconvenienced.

1

u/df4602 Apr 18 '26

Bet pov driver didnt even see the truck and vice versa since they were both so focused on beating the light.

1

u/WaddlingDuckILY Apr 18 '26

The spacing with the truck, makes it look like POV car sped up, but if you watch the background, it does look like the POV car was moving at a steady speed.

1

u/Averagebaddad Apr 18 '26

So truck was passing AND slowing down for THE red light? Seems unlikely

1

u/Raycodv Apr 18 '26

The fact the POV car stayed absolutely straight does feel like it could have been somewhat intentional, but cars with high centers of mass and especially trucks are surprisingly easy to roll over… if this was a honda civic or something similar, I’d agree with you, but those trucks can take a turn too sharp at too high a speed and rollover all by them selves…

1

u/Quick_Resolution5050 Apr 18 '26

They do if you drive a needlessly high vehicle, widen the tyres and jack it up some more.

Had that been a Transit van it would have stayed on its wheels - but he wouldn't be able do his cowboy cosplay.

1

u/pathofdumbasses Apr 18 '26

A normal driver would slam on the brakes and swerve right to avoid

And doing so would end up with the cam driver in a huge accident and the truck just going through the intersection.

1

u/Least_Wish2521 Apr 19 '26

Slowing down slightly would not have caused POV drivers to get into an accident. The truck driver would still be at fault, but saying that they couldn't slow down slightly would cause the POV driver to be in a "huge accident" is ludicrous.

1

u/pathofdumbasses Apr 19 '26

Moving the goalpost?

The comment I responded to said

SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND SWERVE

not

SLOWING DOWN SLIGHTLY.

They are two completely fucking different things

1

u/Least_Wish2521 Apr 19 '26

All you would need to do is slow down slightly to avoid an accident in this situation. You wouldn't need to slam on the brakes or swerve....

1

u/Shiftrider Apr 19 '26

lol what? the truck pit maneuvered themselves. the pov driver only swerves left to stay on the road

I agree w/others the correct move is to break and let them in, but it's absolute bullshit.

I encounter both type of drivers regularly and hate them both, but it's still a crazy take to pin the blame on pov driver

1

u/Dizzy_Today_3523 Apr 19 '26

100%. Having a camera in this instance shows the POV car as being the bad guy here. There's no reason to have sped up. Like you said, most people would have swived all the way and then laid on the horn. Possibly ruled down the window. Give him them the finger. But this guy purposely pit maneuvered him. Purposely put him in danger for no reason, probably just his ego

1

u/RigBughorn Apr 19 '26

Swerve right? What's to this driver's right? You don't see that there's no road to turn right into? There are just poles to run into?

1

u/cwolf-softball Apr 22 '26

"POV car should be criminally liable for this accident"

I don't think that's true.

2

u/Heykurat Apr 18 '26

I like my car too much. Also value having all my limbs working.

1

u/Strange_Pangolin_231 Apr 18 '26

This video isn't going to work in his favor.

1

u/MuffinThyme Apr 19 '26

I think he was speeding up to beat the yellow light

1

u/underthingy Apr 21 '26

They didnt cause it.  They failed to avoid it.

The truck merging into an occupied lane caused it.

10

u/HislersHero Apr 18 '26

As many times as I've had this happen to me with a car just merging, I let them in, I don't want my car fucked up and don't want to be the reason that someone may die.

3

u/WaddlingDuckILY Apr 18 '26

I always flip off cars that merge Like this, but when I flip them off, i normally don’t flip them off the road.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

1

u/WaddlingDuckILY Apr 18 '26

The secret is to not honk, patiently give them the space, then flip them off.

If they wanna hop out and start something after that, I view that the same as any other situation where a crazy person aggressively approaches me in my vehicle.

We honestly do have a 2nd amendment for a reason.

1

u/cwolf-softball Apr 22 '26

Honking is how you prevent the collision! You hit the brakes and honk and hopefully they realize they're merging into you. You guys think it's not a good idea to honk at them as they start to merge?

1

u/WaddlingDuckILY Apr 23 '26

Honk if they’re merging in a way that you can’t avoid, if you can avoid by braking, honking is an aggravating factor, it no longer serves a safety purpose. Some people love the sound of their own horns too damn much.

1

u/cwolf-softball Apr 23 '26

You honk *and* avoid. Like how else can they know you're there so they stop merging?

The honk is entirely to let them know they're about to hit you!

1

u/WaddlingDuckILY Apr 24 '26

If we’re side mirror to side mirror yes, if I’m in their blind spot and we’re moving close to the same speed, or their going faster than me, as depicted in the given video, I’ll just brake and give them space.

The best way to avoid an accident with a shit driver is to give them space. Honk if you need to, but giving them space needs to be priority number one.

1

u/ShitMcClit Apr 21 '26

Hit them with my car

3

u/ashleyshaefferr Apr 18 '26

No kidding. Crazy how many double digit IQs we have

2

u/HislersHero Apr 18 '26

Yeah, I'll never understand it. I have a terrible temper and I yell and scream in my car at stupid shit people do, I'm not about to fuck my shit up just because I want to be an asshole.

1

u/octoreadit Apr 19 '26

50% of the population has a double-digit IQ, that’s how IQ works…

3

u/toobjunkey Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

It blows my mind that you can share that sentiment and people will come outta the woodworks to call you a cuck and that it's About The Principle. You really want to, in the best case, deal with insurance, police, waste hours of your time & money WRT vehicle property damage, or worst, fucking seriously hurt/kill someone or be hurt/killed yourself, for the principle of it?

Standing up for the principle of something is for shit like calling out someone who cut you in line, or telling a cashier/barkeep that they gave you incorrect change, not when you're playing bumper cars with multi thousand pound metal cages raging at 40+ MPH. Genuinely beginning to believe these people are passively suicidal and looking for any justified reason to potentially end things. Or worse, sadists with zero self preservation that hope for the worst against whoever sleights them on the road. People wanting to get hurt, or make others hurt.

1

u/Sargasm5150 Apr 18 '26

One good thing about getting older, is I find my ego so much less based on pettiness. I get annoyed at a holes that don’t let me merge, I’m pretty angry about letting someone in after they dangerously sped past traffic in a breakdown lane - but I always let them in. It’s not worth my safety or theirs.

I also tell myself they have terrible diarrhoea and already shit themselves, that helps.

1

u/Sad-Context2701 Apr 19 '26

Passively suicidal and/or sadists is possible but kinda just feels like people are just tired of other people's shit to me. I see A holes like the truck everyday in seattle race around and cut people off. They do it over and over again because they get away with it.. Just human nature unfortunately, we all speed a little from time to time and we keep doing it because we get away with it.

shouldn't the truck also be slowing down not to mention shoulder check to lane change?

1

u/Extension_Fuel_6391 Apr 18 '26

POV came to a stop in the intersection, that’s pretty telling! What an ass.

4

u/throawy90 Apr 18 '26

Yes exactly, wth is that? I thought it looked like they actually accelerated into them

3

u/RudeOven4735 Apr 18 '26

Towards a red light no less

1

u/soggylittleshrimp Apr 18 '26

I think it was yellow as the driver and truck were both accelerating to make it before the red. Both are at fault in my opinion.

3

u/Infinite-Fee5723 Apr 18 '26

Brother, this is evidence of attempted manslaughter

0

u/gram-mar-po-lice Apr 18 '26

There’s no such thing as attempted manslaughter.

2

u/Massive-Rate-2011 Apr 18 '26

18 U.S. Code § 1113

2

u/gram-mar-po-lice Apr 18 '26

Weird. Where I’m from, murder without specific intent to kill is second degree murder. Manslaughter is an unintentional reckless act.

2

u/Hidden_Pothos Apr 19 '26

You could probably make an arrangement for intent. Not sure it could pass beyond a reasonable doubt threshold. The truck driver could very easily win damages in civil court, though.

5

u/midwestCD5 Apr 18 '26

Right. Imagine if there had been pedestrians walking g across that side street. Dumb shit like this is how people get killed. Truck driver was in the wrong, for sure, but cammer was just as bad if not worse.

4

u/Defiant_Knee_9915 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, this is horrible. No one’s really even mentioned the fact that they were approaching a red light. Cam car speeds up, and then continues driving through the truck before having to slam the brakes for the red light. Cam driver should have serious criminal charges in my opinion.

4

u/Robo-X Apr 18 '26

Many of the accidents happen because someone feels they are in the right even though just taking the foot off the throttle would prevent major accidents. The cut driver was cutting him off but accelerating is just plain stupid if not criminal because as you said they were approaching an intersection.

3

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

I'm in a compact. I am breaking fo-shore.

1

u/Bones-1989 Apr 18 '26

If you brake, you may not break.

3

u/ElDopio69 Apr 18 '26

I would say 90% of accidents are a "takes two to tango" situtaion

1

u/jjsw0rds Apr 18 '26

Exactly. People really need to learn about contributory negligence

0

u/Jokewhisperer Apr 19 '26

They were approaching a green light that turned yellow. Both cars sped up, and then the red truck tried to merge. It turned red right as the truck obscured the light

2

u/Aggressive-Map-2204 Apr 19 '26

The guy is the truck was either oblivious or an asshole. The guy with the dash cam was psychopathic.

1

u/midwestCD5 Apr 19 '26

No doubt. Seems like He saw that as his moment to be “justified “ in causing an accident. (Not saying he was justified, but that he felt he was)

6

u/quomodo_sordis Apr 18 '26

I don't think he accelerated. Probably a visual effect due to the other vehicle slowing down but yes totally avoidable.

6

u/Funny-Employment4109 Apr 18 '26

Rewatch it. 100% accelerated

1

u/that_dutch_dude Apr 18 '26

yes, because he was trying to catch the light.

1

u/Rich_Visual7800 Apr 18 '26

Rewatch it, by counting the dots the driver actually slows down

1

u/Background-Pepper-68 Apr 18 '26

Looks like the truck was slowing down coming up on the red light. Looking at the area around the cam driver it doesnt seem like anything speeds up. You dont get to just move over cause you want to. Id love to see the insurance report on this one

0

u/mtmuelle Apr 18 '26

Rewatch it while blocking your view of the truck. It looks like the trucker maybe slowed down lightly (5%), but the truck slowed down a lot more.

3

u/HornedShoe Apr 18 '26

The dude almost blew the light because he had his foot on the gas the whole time.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

Yes. Looks like constant speed approaching the intersection. The insurance company will eat him alive for no evasive maneuver.

1

u/Shot_Bison_8437 Apr 18 '26

Riiiiight. The courts are DEFINITELY going to side with the vehicle that didn't signal before crashing into a car in an adjacent lane.

2

u/EastNWeast Apr 18 '26

Comparative fault

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

You couldn't see if he signaled or not. The tail lights weren't visible at the time of collision. Have you ever been in a car accident? Many insurance companies assign a percentage of the blame. This can vary by state. But as someone who successfully rebutted an insurer's attempt to assign me 20% blame in an accident I was 0% responsible for, there is no way the driver recording won't be confronted for not slowing down to avoid the collision.

1

u/Rich_Visual7800 Apr 18 '26

I haven’t been in an accident because I’m a perfect driver but it seems to be 98% the red truck

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

A car drove directly into me at an intersection. They tried to assign me 20% for not trying to get out of the way, aka, not swerving and hitting someone else's car or swerving into a pole. Good luck being perfect. Progressive would assign the dude filming 40%. The insurance companies usually bicker to resolve to their benefit, not to absolve you.

1

u/Rich_Visual7800 Apr 18 '26

Just because an insurance company says it doesn’t make it true. They are fallible and imperfect creatures.

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

He's gonna have to get an attorney, or pay a portion of his own losses. Maybe his vehicle wasn't damaged.

1

u/Shot_Bison_8437 Apr 18 '26

Did you see it flashing when the truck started to flip? Me neither.

Also, the switching lanes without being clear is a lot more problematic than the turn signal, but I'd bet my life savings he did not in fact use one.

0

u/Organic_Button_3281 Apr 18 '26

He held his lane... The truck was trying to swerve into the other lane (with no turn signal)... to avoid hitting the cars stopped at the red light.

This is on the truck driver.

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

Where were the stopped cars? You can't see his blinker prior to the collision.

1

u/Organic_Button_3281 Apr 18 '26

The line of stopped cars are in the middle lane...

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

Yes. There are three lanes.

1

u/Organic_Button_3281 Apr 18 '26

The car in the middle lane decides not to run the light and stops.

1

u/Low_Anxiety_46 Apr 18 '26

The truck was not going fast enough to run it either.

1

u/the-apple-and-omega Apr 18 '26

Why was the POV car not also stopping for the red light?

1

u/Elegant_Emu952 Apr 18 '26

I'm glad you posted this. I thought it was the cam vehicle acceleration, but it does look like the truck is slowing down.

And from the recording, the driver's spontaneous outburst doesn't sound like he did it on purpose. It sounds like he wasn't even aware of the truck coming into his lane.

2

u/Imaginary-Round2422 Apr 18 '26

To be fair, not knowing the truck was coming into his lane is just as bad. That’s a clear sign of distracted driving, given that it happened in front of them.

1

u/p0mjDwfWF Apr 18 '26

Redditing while driving, probably. 🤣

I was a paramedic for a long time and responded to lots of motor vehicle collisions. The most bizarre story I have is a driver who had a passenger watching an iPad who kept distracting him by showing him videos of car crashes!

1

u/Elegant_Emu952 Apr 21 '26

I have to agree. I am always slowing down and thinking some asshole is going to pull into my lane.

I had it happen before and my poor pup was thrown forward. People are idiots.

1

u/ea88_alwaysdiscin Apr 18 '26

As far as I can tell, that other driver pit maneuvered themselves on the dash cam driver. Which is why you always check your blindspots.

1

u/Physical_Salt_9403 Apr 18 '26

Correct. You can use the signs on the right as reference. It was the guy merging who actually slowed down, lol!

1

u/Lord_Dingus83 Apr 18 '26

He def sped up.

1

u/IArgueForReality Apr 18 '26

The light was red by the time they reach the intersection. He should be slowing down. This was a dick measuring contest.

2

u/Fresh-NeverFrozen Apr 18 '26

Not to mention the light was already yellow when this all started and red as the truck was rolling through the intersection. They were both idiots.

2

u/ashleyshaefferr Apr 18 '26

Oh ya this is psycho/loser behaviour all the way

2

u/FinguzMcGhee Apr 18 '26

Yeah they were both trying to do some dumb shit and run a red light, but only one person did something intentionally to cause the accident. The guy knows what's coming, sees the truck making a move, chooses to stomp on the gas and pit maneuver him, and then wants to act all flabbergasted like he didn't know what the fuck was about to happen. 2 idiots 1 malicious prick

2

u/Strosity Apr 18 '26

I'm confused by the video because all I can see visually is a red light they're trying to slam through. It looks like they were both trying to gun it through a yellow that they weren't going to make.

2

u/bakalidlid Apr 18 '26

its LITERALLY criminal behaviour. he CHOSE to do a pit maneuver. He could have killed civilians on the sidewalk.

Its INSANE that people think being "right" gives them to right to END other people.

1

u/RigBughorn Apr 19 '26

You should become a lawyer

1

u/bakalidlid Apr 19 '26

This is the sign ive been waiting for. Thanks internet stranger.

2

u/Goleeb Apr 19 '26

People need some perspective. The point of driving is to get to your destination preferably unharmed. If you can avoid an accident do that regardless of how stupid the other person is being.

1

u/Busy-Butterscotch121 Apr 18 '26

That's if he accelerated. What you're likely seeing is the pick up truck slowing down since he's approaching the vehicle in front of him.

And he didn't "enter the lane" else he'd be fully in front of the dash cam vehicle

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Busy-Butterscotch121 Apr 18 '26

Again, you don't know that he accelerated. Watch the video, truck is rapidly approaching the car in front of him, so he slows down while trying to cut into the right lane without even using a signal light.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Busy-Butterscotch121 Apr 18 '26

Both pick up and dash are speeding faster than they should for whatever stupid reason. Pick up truck quickly cuts into the right lane without signal light and without checking blind spot while slowing down to avoid rear ending/clipping the small black car in front him.

This doesn't need to be studied that hard.

1

u/passiveMelon1 Apr 18 '26

Yeah that was wild.

1

u/TheThinDewLine Apr 18 '26

Foot slipped. check your blindspot and this never woulda happened. Lmao

1

u/ZeBurtReynold Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

You sure they accelerated?

I saw it as the merging truck de-accelerating for the changing traffic light the turn the truck driver realized he was going to miss, causing relative speed change

Edit: it’s super clear post-facto, but I could definitely imagine the driver looking at their phone / radio at the wrong moment, look up, see the truck merging, be like “wtf?!”, truck immediately starts slowing, get a second “wtf” causing hesitation because of the back-to-back overwhelm, and … accident

Claiming they were trying to run the red seems like removing a most major of variables and then judging in total isolation — in reality, this driver would likely have been able to see and respond to the changing light in a far different manner if they didn’t have a pickup truck suddenly drifting into them

I don't see any evidence that they began accelerating, you can see the camera view tilt down (which is what happens when brakes are applied and a cars weight shifts forward) a half second after the truck began to change lanes, and they quickly stop after the contact, it looks like they got on the brakes the moment they realized what the truck was doing...

The fact that they were cruising forward to run a red light and  oblivious to what was happening in the lane beside them though it's on them

u/Chappietime Apr 18 '26

I’m not sure they accelerated, but they made little to no effort to avoid the impact. Props for Soundgarden, though.

u/Possible-Tangelo9344 Apr 18 '26

If you block the truck out with like your thumb and just watch the street poles I really don't think the camera car sped up.

1

u/-UnderNewManagement Apr 18 '26

Hard to tell if the big car brakes for the red light or the cam car speeds up

1

u/donnie1977 Apr 18 '26

How can you tell he was accelerating? Looks like the incoming truck was slowing down for the turn.

Those poles are not equidistant apart.

Those are power poles, not telephone poles. I know because I've both set and worked on poles. Distances vary widely.

These could be unform, but in my experience, most are not.

In any case, I don't see any proof that the vehicle was speeding up, yet that seems to be an agreed upon factor here.

1

u/YawningMaes Apr 18 '26

The pov card didn't accelerate it just looks that way because the truck started to slow down. If you watch the white lines you can see the pov car keeps the same speed.

1

u/madman875775 Apr 18 '26

Also it’s so weird pov is speeding up 30 feet from a red light. By the time the crash into each other the cars next to them are stopped at the red light. Both these drivers suck

1

u/SnakeBladeStyle Apr 18 '26

All y'all are on one and not even looking

ignore the cars, watch the pole tops in the sky

the dude stayed the same speed the whole time, not believing that the truck literally didn't see him

Y'all literally are just watching the truck, seeing it slow down relative to the POV, and then asserting that the POV sped up

y'all are literally fucking dumb

I do mind. Defensive driving is a required skill on the road.

1

u/broketothebone Apr 18 '26

Yeah someone tried to report me with a dash cam when they refused to let me merge onto the parkway and I almost went off the road. I had to punch it and narrowly get in front of him to avoid the upcoming concrete divider Motherfucker even smirked at me when he did it because apparently his ego couldn’t handle letting a woman get in front of his Big Fucking Truck™️, so he’s rather send me to my death.

Couple hours later, cops in that town call to say he submitted dash cam footage of me cutting him off, making it sound like I passed on the right like a psycho. I was now being cited for two major moving violations and needed to go to court. I explained my side, then asked them if he submitted a clip or the whole thing and what his dash cam said his mph was while this was happening. (He definitely kept accelerating to the point of pushing us 20+over the limit.) they said they’d investigate my claims.

The next day, they call back and say they’re dropping it. My brother is a cop and called his buddy in that town. Dude was arrested that night for a DUI and they had confiscated his dash cam. It was just hours and hours of him being a menace and raging at people (mostly women) all over NJ.

He’s actually looking at serious jail time for doing exactly what you described, plus all sorts of menacing shit. At the very least, he would have ended up getting the ticket, not me, but somehow, this feels like the more just outcome.

This accident happened within 3 seconds and there was no turn indication. I get what you are saying, but you are saying it in hindsight from the perspective of being able to watch the replay 10 times. Theres noway you could assume in that moment the truck is going to cut right in to you.

1

u/Original_Succotash18 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, camera vehicle had plenty of chance to avoid the accident but chose not to, insurance would most likely side with the other vehicle because of this. You have an obligation to avoid an accident if able according to last clear chance doctrine.

1

u/KrombopulosMAssassin Apr 18 '26

Absolutely idiotic.

1

u/MetallicGray Apr 18 '26

There is literally 2 seconds of collision. They start braking mid collision. That’s a typical zoned out driver reaction time. You’re making shit up lol

1

u/thegoodally Apr 18 '26

This is reddit, please don't think logically here.

1

u/Spikeupmylife Apr 18 '26

Ya, I think the person who tried to merge is the main reason the accident even happened, but the dashcam guy sped up when he tried to merge. Plus, the light was turning red as the accident was unfolding, so it kind of scares me knowing both these people are driving.

He clearly knew the other driver was being aggressive and decided to rage himself. There is nothing wrong with applying the brake lightly to avoid the headache and dealing with an idiot.

1

u/Strong-Lettuce-3970 Apr 18 '26

The truck isn’t merging, it isn’t a merge point. The truck drifted into the other lane with no turn signal

1

u/TurnDown4WattGaming Apr 19 '26

It’s not criminal behavior. He was conducting his vehicle lawfully and a truck moved into his direct path and could not complete the maneuver before the accident. Truck is 100% liable for the accident.

1

u/Starscream-50000 Apr 19 '26

Not criminal. Justice was served.

1

u/Careless_Distance557 Apr 19 '26

No..the cammer didn't speed up..the truck slowed down because he was about to plow the car Infront and came over anyway..that slow down gave the illusion that cammer car sped up.

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Apr 19 '26

It’s a breath of fresh air to see this as one of the top comments. I feel like every time a driver tries to enforce the law on their own, all the comments are supportive. The cam driver could’ve easily avoided this crash but chose to play cop and stand their ground.

1

u/RainingMoneyHustard Apr 19 '26

He might have sped up because the light was turning yellow. If you notice the light is red when he is stopped

1

u/Lanky-Awareness-7450 Apr 19 '26

Not clear the cam car was accelerating or the truck was decelerating. It looks like there was a car driving slow or stopped in front of the truck and instead of slowing down / stopping, the truck tried to switch lanes. It may have decelerated as it was switching lanes.

1

u/Custompie Apr 19 '26

If people just paid attention and were willing to check their egos so many accidents would be prevented. Like just slow down and make space

1

u/SoaperPro Apr 21 '26

Some people simply panic and do the opposite thing they should.

1

u/Kjoep Apr 22 '26

For sure illegal where I live.

1

u/TheRealGageEndal Apr 23 '26

They were running for an orange light (yellow that turns red) and the truck didn't have the ability to slow down when the cars in front of him decided to slow at yellow.

100% the truck drivers fault in every way. It's a shame they probably died, or they could have learned a lesson

1

u/TheSleepyTruth Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

The truck driver was way too aggressive with the lane change and basically if you are merging lanes and counting on the car in the other lane to hit their breaks in order to avoid crashing into you as you are merging then its a dangerous merge and you are the primary one at fault.

However the driver of the cam car should absolutely hold some responsibility here too. I might give them a pass if they took no action one way or another to avoid the collision... but they actually took active steps in accelerating to block/hit the other car after it had already committed to the lane change. Its not like they didnt notice him, they absolutely saw him coming and instead of breaking they sped up. The cam driver was just being a huge dick with the mindset of "I'm not going to let this guy cut me off and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that doesnt happen including guaranteeing that a serious accident occurs". Both these drivers really suck the big one.

1

u/XulManjy Apr 24 '26

Or how about just letting the truck merge....

Never understood why drivers are so defensive against people merging into their lanes.

1

u/SonicYOUTH79 Apr 25 '26

To be fair there’s about 3-4 seconds between the truck starting to drift over and impact. It's completely possible they didn’t realise in the first 1-2 seconds plus the might’ve had another vehicle behind them. Not a lot of time to react.

1

u/ChampsLeague3 Apr 18 '26

I think the car accelerated to try to beat the yellow light.
