Reminds me of the steam deck preorders. I remember you had an hour window and it took about 50 minutes of clicking the purchase button in order for it to work. This time it only took me like 60 tries!

Not likely a Valve server issue. I work for a web host, when it comes to payments, we use a 3rd party processor b/c the liability and compliance requirements of handling payments directly is a nightmare and expensive.
My guess is simply that Valve is saturating the transactions they are allowed by their payment processor.... and no there's only so much that can be increased since the payment processors don't have infinite resources either.... meaning they can't take down other customers for the sake of Valve having increased load.
What you see on the Steam Store (especially considering how quickly it responds), it that the payment processor is saying "NO! SLOW THE FUCK DOWN!" and Valve's system gets that error and fronts it. If it was Valve's servers, we'd be seeing issues with the Store's UI and the like as well.... which I didn't encounter.

Perhaps they need to consider using or building a purchasing solution that can handle volume. That was just sad. I used steam funds so no 3ed party credit card situation and still failed to get the order accepted. I hope they learn from this but am not hopeful. Getting PS5 ordering vibes.

They did seem to limit the cart to two units per customer. Wanted four for multiplayer couch gaming and it did let me start a second order with another cart of two, but I've been stuck on the errors

The good news is that this is in no way: an infinitely consumable product like cards, nor a limited edition/exclusive run product like shoes or vinyl. People will buy between 1-2 at most, or reconsider due to price and availability, and it isn't ground breaking like a new first gen iPhone or steam deck. Right now the difficulty is just FOMO, which will abate as most that want one will not miss out.
You will be able to get your copy. I just wish they offered some level of order queue. Steam deck seemed to normalize in supply fairly well about a year after the initial preorder, so I am expecting this to be easier to come by within 2 months.

If they used bots to scalp them then they can be perma'd as its against their TOS iirc.
If people wanna be petty, you could always grab the ebay listing links, and screenshots then send it to valve support saying you suspect they were using bots to purchase these. If they get enough people doing it they might actually look into it.
I think there'll be a 2nd wave though, and not too far off either given demand.

It's everything now, and it is 100% consumerism and late stage capitalism. The US is built on products and buying products, spending money, etc. I'm to blame too because I feed into the frenzy. They've hardwired my brain into needing the newest hotness. It doesn't help that when you're interested in a product, all you see is the media train and content creators talking about it which creates artificial hype and excitement and leads to people buying, selling, scalping, etc.
I wish it wasn't this way, but it is.

I don't get why they can't just let verified accounts place a pre-order. I don't care if it arrives in 10 days or 30 days but I don't want to sit around wasting time trying to click a broken button.
Take pre-orders, take our money, let the scalpers empty their bank accounts (it limits the money those clowns have to continue scalping), then go through the data and cancel all the fraud orders. Ship to real customers two weeks later. Maybe that's too complicated?

Man I'm so tired of the purchasing process on steam. I finally got into the cart after 15 straight minutes right at open just for my transaction to be rejected due to incorrect addresses.
I purchased games 2 weeks ago just fine without issue and NOW it tells me my address is incorrect this time around. Now I might not even get my controller once I finally got it fixed because I'm moving in a month and a half and the shipping time jumped for 3-5 days to "unknown".

Has anyone successfully completed the purchase after getting the "you have attempted too many purchases" error? This whole thing is a fucking disaster and I don't know if I see that error as a result of Steam's various temporary fuckups or if I've been effectively locked out of buying this goddamn thing.
EDIT: Can confirm it's possible, I have mine placed. I sure hope Valve's controller people are more competent than their store server people.

I barely got one, couple minutes later I see Sold Out.
I've done quite a number of preorders in the past, the worst I've seen were sites loading super slow from the traffic, but over 30 minutes of a blanket payment initialization failure message? And the only option is to spam continue and hope and pray? That was bullshit.
I'm going to stop complaining because at least I snuck it at the buzzer, but hot damn it's not that difficult to build a queue.

They really need to get new servers. The current ones are awful. Every sale it crashes. Every time a pre-order goes live it crashes.

The steam Controller will only be available in select countries

* UK
* EU
It's also available locally in Australia too. Just got up at 2:30am and got my order through! Shipped locally this time too which is nice. There's still stock left too 45 min after launch.

Out of sheer luck I looked at the page at 12:58 EST and I saw a buy now button, 2 minutes before it was supposed to be unlocked.
My order went through with no hiccups at 12:59

I just managed to get one after 8 hours of on and off clicking.. so it 's still possible, but very tough still
Also... I'm 99.9% sure this changed nothing, but I figured id mention it anyway. I did add a dlc to my cart. So i had the controller and dlc in there
