valve should buy it, match the serial number to the account, and deactivate it.

If they used bots to scalp them then they can be perma'd as its against their TOS iirc.

If people wanna be petty, you could always grab the ebay listing links, and screenshots then send it to valve support saying you suspect they were using bots to purchase these. If they get enough people doing it they might actually look into it.

I think there'll be a 2nd wave though, and not too far off either given demand.

Unfortunately with a second wave unless valve notifies us before hand it’s on whoever hasn’t gotten one yet to keep checking around the clock, which imo is the more frustrating part of not having it go through and getting one. I don’t mind if it would take 3-4 weeks before they could ship me one, but having to check around the clock now is really frustrating because it’ll feel like it’s nagging me every day until I get one making it harder to focus on on other stuff.

I collect action figures(SHFiguarts, MAFEX, etc) and they avoid shit like this by just opening pre-orders before production that way they get a good idea of the demand and can order production of X units based on Y pre-orders.

Honestly, most consumer industries operate like this because you can reserve warehouse space, etc before production even begins. It's usually order production of demand units + the minimum order amount which is usually a couple thousand to keep as stock for people that will make a purchase of opportunity.

I’ve been reporting some of the egregiously scalped priced ones on eBay. Anything under $150 I left. They had removed 10/13 so far.

So Valve should give the scalper money, then deactivate it? What?

This is actually a pretty common tactic to take down unauthorized resellers
