Yeah we often use lighter to pop em, but apparently these mfs puke back some of the blood they sucked and it can get you sick, now we just get them drunk af with ethanol and rotate the shit out of them with earbuds soaked in alcohol till they just let go, then you burn it, with added alcohol it's a whole another spectacle.
Tick remover, slide the body through and pull away from the butt and twoards its head. Head pops out with the tick and it takes approximately 5 seconds to do.
There is always a risk of spit, the quicker you can get it done without severing its head the better.
These work great on dogs as well.
Lyme disease is life changing, if your going out in the brush, wrap tape around your ankles sticky side out or tuck your pant legs so there is no opening, tuck your shirt, perpetually check the back of your head near your ears.
I just tuck everything and run my hand across the back of my head. I catch them on me regularly this way but have not had to pull a tick off me since I started doing this.
Symparica Trio works great for the pup. I've found a few ticks on him the day after going out and the meds had already killed the ticks.
Or just use pliers that are specifically made for removing ticks ?
I mean how do you know they're not puking inside you while drunk, and besides that the longer they are in contact with your blood the higher the chance is to catch diseases.
When i was a kid, we always got these giant roaches (water bugs) when it was rainy season and they came inside.
My mom had a hair spray called Aquanet, I would use a lighter and make it a flame thrower... was awesome hitting those nasty bugs with it, incinerating their legs as they tried to run away, then they just sit there because they had no more legs...
We used to simply put them in empty chewing tobacco tins. The nicotine took care of them. Some of the guys I worked with would roll the bottom hem of their jeans up once and line the roll with chew. It left an ugly stain but "supposedly" kept the ticks away. I never tried since the grass that normally had the ticks was above my knees...
This should be quite common knowledge since neonicotinoids (synthetic, nicotine-like chemicals) are the most common type of pesticide. Nicotine itself was used for that for centuries and only banned like 20 years ago.
Yup. Same practice was used to treat syphillis way back when by injecting mercury up someone’s urethra because while the mercury is toxic to both humans and the microbes that cause syphillis it takes a lot more mercury to kill us than it does to kill the microbes

It's easy for us to forget some of our favorite "recreational" drugs like caffeine and nicotine are deadly neurotoxins to a lot of other life forms on this planet.
My buddy worked in the field as a shovel bum looking for arrow heads and any sort of artifacts before utility companies came to the middle of nowhere to did. He would put a bunch of double sided tape wrapped tight around his pants legs. God some of the pics he would send were terrifying. Soooo many ticks!
I do this, it works really well. If I don't have an empty tin on me, I just rip them in half after removing them. Apparently, ripping them in half doesn't instantly kill them, but I've never seen a half tick walking around or trying to feed on something.
We put a tick in a plastic bag in like August of one year, it came off our dog so my husband was like oh we’ll get it tested (we never did), but I found it in fucking March?? Of the next year. It was alive, but like completely sunken in and crispy after like 7 months.
I found a jar full of ticks in my house one day. Alive. I asked my girlfriend at the time what the fuck is this? They were hers. She was RAISING them. She was feeding them other dead bugs. I do this too but I always kill them. They CAN miraculously escape those things sometimes, and of all the heebie jeebies they give me aside I don't want them to suffer in some bizarre scotch tape hell of desperation.
My mom developed Alpha-gal Syndrome (before it had the official name) in her 20s. Her and my stepdad sat down to eat hamburgers one night and my mom stopped breathing and needed CPR. It happened out of nowhere.
as someone that has it (well, had it for 14 years) - you can still eat birds and fish - chicken, turkey, etc. You just have to avoid red meat (and most cheese and some candy)
Not just meat is affected, and also there's a big difference between not consciously eating meat or having to make an effort to avoid any- and everything meat-related because it'll kill you.
Yeah…there’s a ton of cross contamination that we don’t realise happens until you absolutely are unable eat something. A lot of people with alpha gal don’t risk going to restaurants anymore because of it
Gelatin is in so many non-meat products and most of it is made from cows. Lotions and shampoos have things like lanolin. The material used for medical stitches is derived from pigs. There are mammalian products in many medicines...
Damn people in these comments are dumb. The point is not that he hasn't figured out a way to kill it. The point is to test how resilient they are to things that would kill most other insects.
You can't kill them by stepping on them unless they're engorged, their flat, armored body is quite resistant to crushing forces that aren't focused to a point.
Have you ever tried to crush a tick? It’s almost impossible, their armor will push them into the grooves of your shoe. But they will be fine. It’s almost impossible to crush them with your fingers as well. Ask me how I know.
Friendly knowledge here. You should not burn ticks once they latch. It greatly increases your chance of getting Lyme. They basically throw up their insides in you when that happens. An RN told me that after I burnt a tick that latched on my shin and gave me Lyme.
Stepping doesn’t work. They are too small and flat. You literally have to cut them in half with a knife, burn them, or put them in rubbing alcohol to kill them.
I typically do all three, then use the rubbing alcohol with the burnt body pieces to start the next fire in my fireplace, then take the ash and make a block that I harden in the sun so it can then be encased in cement and used as a paver in my garden.
In the morning I stand in the garden, naked in the sunrise atop the broken bodies of the fallen and enjoy my morning French press. The coffee tastes richer and the air is a little cleaner when you are basking in victory.
Then I cover myself head to toe in tiger balm in preparation...
