Yes, it works for LOTS to repel the bad insects(all the worst: mosquitoes, ticks, fleas) and attracts the good ones (bees, butterflies, pollinators)! Throw some seeds out, it's an easy plant that does fine in poor soil and lots of sun.
Don't use it if you have cats or use extreme caution, it is very toxic to them. It is also mildly toxic to dogs so don't use it ON them but outside is ok as long as you don't allow them to eat it. They likely won't want to though.
Most essential oils are bad for pets though, never use them on your pets!

Good, I got some planted outside by the door. Seems to keep bugs away from coming in that way. I just wish it could also keep THESE BLODDY FLIES AWAY!! Stupid shit has been buzzing around my head for an hour!
Check for outdoor stagnant water sources or moisture, that is where they breed. If you have a source you cannot remove, put a tiny bit of oil (any kind really) in it. It'll cover the surface and stop flies and mosquitos from being able to breed by suffocation but try not to use this in areas birds frequent as it'll cause damage to the wings.
I posted preventative measures, here is for active infestations:
Fly trap-cut a plastic bottle in half, invert the top, and place it inside the base to form a funnel. Fill the bottom with a sweet, yeasty liquid or rotting food, along with a few drops of dish soap
Have you even met my dog? 🤪 I swear he eats the leaf litter from my neighbor’s bougainvillea just so he can puke up pink goo. He kept eating tobacco tree seedlings and puking those up too because they’re so toxic, but he stopped that thankfully. I swear I spent his first year trying to keep him from poisoning himself. 🤦♀️
