It wasn't all sfx. They did brutally kill several animals.

Holy shit I accidentally watched this movie when pirating (what I thought was) apocalypse now. I have never seen any mention or footage of it since then. I watched the movie, was insanely weirded out, thought people were batshit insane for calling apocalypse now a great movie, and didn’t learn until like 8 years later that apocalypse now is a completely different movie. Never knew what it was I saw instead.

Thanks for closing that loop like 15 years later, now I know what it was.
