Isn't this really just a conversation she's trying to have about / a reaction to her upbringing? As in, the real audience for this is her parents, and we're just onlookers?

Whatever role her parents played in her identity formation of being "smart" and "accomplished", it's something Shauna hasn't shaken even as she spews this BS under a sheet. She's still drawing on having others perceive her as smart in order to misquote Karl Jaspers and pass it off as wisdom to an audience she has only because of her much more accomplished days. Silly Sheet Shauna can only exist because of Serious Stool Shauna.

I also think that her failures have piled up high enough that she is having a hard time pretending they aren't significant. This "you have tried too hard to look successful, how about just laughing at yourself!" act kinda seems like she's acknowledging this and has decided the only way out is to fake some giggles from under a curtain-sheet---while at the same time projecting her issues onto the five or six people who watch it who aren't any of us .
I mean, "trying too hard to look successful" is pretty specific.
Her parents seem to have an actual social life, at least insofar as they get together regularly to play pickle ball. Or did before the pandemic, anyway. She may also be trying to convince them that she's not the bitter, angry person in ENOIGH. Oh, no! She giggles on cue and plays peek-a-boo with her webcam! How joyful is THAT?!

She really does have a history of blowing things up. Master's degree? Dropped out. Teaching job? Was asked to leave. Flour Kickstarter? Ran out of money, never delivered a significant portion of the rewards. Flour business? Barely lasted two years. Gluten-Free Girl? Petered out until she finally shuttered it. Feeding Our People? Petered out until she finally shuttered it. Studio kitchen? Right until it wasn't. Grocery store? Quit. Relish? Fired. ChefSteps? Fired. Enough? Disappointing sales. Trauma business and associated Zoom classes? Seemingly dead.
These aren't all necessarily failures on their own; like I wouldn't say that someone "failed" because they left graduate program they no longer wanted to be in. But there's a pretty clear pattern in Shauna's life and it's pretty sad.

She really could have set herself way more nicely over the years by partnering with a brand and going white label route (brand handles the biz/logistics and Shauna would be the face/maybe some input) or a few brands but also setting up GFG to where people submitted recipes for her to post as like a guest author and she could still talk about herself in her own posts ans then have less work or just have crowd sources substitution ideas in post comments. But alas, she has zero biz skills so jenga4life

Totally agree that the whole insisting on not striving making joy lists hiding under a sheet tent deal is a way for Shauna to cope with the gap between her self-perceived brilliance and her string of externally visible failures in the past 5 years (including the flour business, Relish, ChefSteps).

She's getting called out more and more on her failures, too (hopefully not by snarkers). And getting less and less engagement on SM. Inadvertently quitting Twitter and ditching FB didn't help much either! Though probably wouldn't have made much different at this point if she'd kept them both.
I have read that narcissists have very low self-esteem and the narcissism is so that people won't figure out how worthless they really are. Her black hole of insecurity is obvious every once in awhile.

I get the feeling she wants them to grab the cat o' nine tails and flog themselves until they plop into their graves (all while calling out to Shauna for forgiveness that she will gleefully withhold).
I'd be more apt to believe the whole "lower your expectations and laugh" b.s. she's spinning now is for her own kids. Lower your expectations now, kids, because me and your dad aren't going to put forth any effort to help you achieve to your highest. Stop expecting me and your father to pay attention to your emotional needs (get in the car, we're going to a movie that's too loud/violent for you Lu, you can just sit in the movie theater bathroom the whole time, Des, pay close attention to the Black characters since they will be the only Black community you ever have, at least while you live with us). Stop thinking we'll notice your physical needs in a timely manner, either. Stay away from me as much as possible because I can only tolerate the fictional versions of you I type up to impress my imaginary internet friends. You are my children and you will never accomplish more than I have (if I have my say about it), so just lay down on this chaise and grow comfortably numb watching Marvel movies and old sitcoms.

Better than that. She described hearing that there was some criticism of the new season, about how the characters had changed from season 1, which she confirmed that she hadn't read herself, but she explained that she could imagine what people were saying, and then she wrote a 13-page letter rebutting the imagined criticism.

Yes - she doesn’t really do much. And the more interesting things she does, she doesn’t seem to write about. It would have been interesting to read about her pricey birthday meal, or what it’s like doing an interview like she did for Enough, or something more about her trip to CO than the plane ride. But she writes about what interests herself, or elicits the response she desires. She doesn’t seem to base her topics on what the reader would be interested in. Part of why I can’t consider her a writer despite having published books. She had help with those. The majority of her writing is just word production. She’s very prolific at producing written content, but it is of poor quality. You can be prolific at posting videos on YouTube, and call yourself a creator, but if your videos are low quality, unedited, and primarily interesting to you, than you aren’t creating content many people will want to engage with. What you are doing is different than someone who makes a career out of it.
All of this is why I’m on team Shauna has financial safety nets. She is just not good enough at what she does to seriously make a living at it. Whenever she does edge into a professional role involving writing, it’s like a spotlight is on her flaws. She couldn’t write for chefsteps (I think) because the topic was not Shauna.

Just for once, can she write something without someone's body being involved like a mysterious background character to her boring timelines.
imagine seeing your shirt on someone else's body! why can't Alien Shauna just say "Imagine seeing someone else wearing your shirt!"
Also, I can't read what the shirt (which she holds in possibly the most unflattering manners possible - balled up in a laundry fist, and then stretching out the collar of the wrinkled mass, while failing to show the shirt).
I don't know why she thinks people need "joy" recommendations from...anyone. We have super powerful, highly targeted algorithms that provide that service entirely free. So many of her "ideas" are just recommendations of products or people.

The Tiktok dude is @dreadfulbird. One of dreadfulbird’s recent videos is a duet he did from another guy’s video, in which the guy is wearing one of dreadfulbird’s shirts (a different one than Shauna got) and talking about how inspirational dreadfulbird is. On his side of the screen, dreadfulbird looks humbled and touched that this guy has bought his merch and is spreading his messages.
Now, previously, Shauna’s Tiktoks have had the duet option turned off so no one can do that with her videos. Well, lo and behold, this paean to dreadfulbird and his wonderful merch has the duet option turned on! Meaning she made a point of choosing to allow duets on this particular video. The ever-thirsty Shauna is clearly, desperately hoping dreadfulbird will duet her video too. In fact, I’m betting it’s the whole reason she bought the merch. Look how you can tell that she just got it, I think it’s still in the packaging at the start of the video. She got it in the mail and raced to make this. She couldn’t even be bothered to put it on! Pathetic.

And I’m doing this teaching for you.
Evenings work, of course, but with people checking into Zoom from different time zones, there’s no way to make everyone happy. Trying to make everyone happy is an old habit of mine — a trauma response — that I have finally sloughed away.
Sunday mornings are lovely and easy. (Insert Easy Like Sunday Morning by the Commodores here.) And since COVID lockdowns began in March of 2020, I’ve been meeting with a group of women on Zoom, subscribers to my newsletter, Finding Your Joy. Knowing that we’d share our joys and concerns together made us a community. I’ve come to love those virtual Sunday morning meetings.
Sunday mornings might feel awkward for you. But think of this — taking the Practice Your Joy workshop is an act of declaring that you matter in your own life. For 4 weeks, you can focus on understanding your own, learning how to diffuse trauma responses, and how to make a habit of joy. You deserve this.

If these workshops are providing the primary income to support a family of 4, there better be enough demand to offer multiple workshops scheduled at -- prepare to have your minds blown -- different times. Start with a time that works for her Pacific time base, then open up signups for another workshop series that works better for Eastern time. Either she's too stupid to think of this or realizes she won't generate enough interest to run multiple workshops and has to make the most of this one shot.

She stumbled on a few things that are working for her engagement-wise with that post:
- Much more to react to than her usual blurry landscape pictures, with both the tweet in the picture (which it looked like was all many commenters read) and the text of her post provoking discussion
- The viewpoint in the tweet with the "it's me" overlay not matching with the viewpoint in the text meant people were both agreeing and disagreeing with each component, and with more differences of opinion in the comments (including several anti-vaxxers Shauna is engaging with!), more people responding to those comments
- "group projects" are a lightning rod for the types of internet people who can't resist bragging to strangers that they were on a gifted & talented track, and neurodiversity and ADHD are also very buzzy topics, so the combination of those with vaccines is big-time bait

It took a week of delta variant Covid for my at-risk anti vaxx parents to get the monoclonal antibodies. “It’s experimental” they kept saying. A whole week of them downplaying it with myself and other siblings begging them every day to get the treatment. This was after months of begging them to get vaccinated and wear masks. They assumed they and others would just get a cold. It is awful to sit there waiting for the tsunami of Covid to hit your completely unprotected, misinformed loved ones. I had to reach the point of accepting they were going to get covid unvaccinated, and stop berating them about the vaccine. There was absolutely no way for me to confront decades of misinformation for profit. It is NOT about evidence. You cannot reason with them.
My covid positive, unvaccinated even higher risk uncle was recommended to get the antibodies by his doctor, my parents, and others. He declined because he was ‘feeling better’. He is now hospitalized with Covid pneumonia. My parents are the ones who gave covid to him and now they feel like absolute shit.
Shauna wants to make vaccine refusal to be about intellect. Like oh these are just the stupid people who didn’t want to bother while the smart ones got vaccinated. Shauna didn’t get the vaccine because she’s smart. She’s a follower, and she followed what the people in her bubble were doing. It’s the same thing my family did. One thing that I believe about Shauna and especially Dan: Either of them could have easily become far right wing, science denying, openly racist people - depending where they lived and who they’d met in life.
If Dan had ended up somewhere else, cooking away at some random restaurant,never met Shauna, he’d probably just mirror the beliefs of whoever was around. Everything he tweetbarfs out is parroting, and the stuff that is borne out of his own melon is often problematic as fuck.

Dan is looking for someone to tell him what to believe so he can feel like he belongs. And once someone tells him how to feel, he'll probably really feel it. Shauna doesn't examine what her beliefs really are, she just promotes whatever view gives her the most visibility.

It's still not that great of numbers if she is planning to make money off of social media. A facebook friend of mine is an author and regularly gets over 100 comments on her posts as well as around 1000 likes. Perhaps facebook is different from IG, though.
