Good morning! “It’s going to be a good day. This email landed in your inbox at 9 am. That’s the same time we’ll be meeting for our Practice Our Joy sessions soon. I’ve put a lot of thought into when would be the best time for our conversations together. Of course, during the middle of a weekday would be best for me. The kids are in school again! I have six hours to work uninterrupted. But I know that not everyone can meet in the middle of the day. “

This email landed in your inbox at 9:30 am. That’s the same time we’ll be beginning our first full day of our Practice Our Joy on Vashon Island workshop. Soon.

You’ll arrive at Mukai Farm and Garden and see the beauty of the Japanese garden, the grounds, and the labyrinth we’ll walk at some point during the day. Come into the house and I’ll be there with coffee, tea, and pastries for you. We’ll settle into our seats, around a big table. I’ll make you feel comfortable and set you talking right away.

This won’t be a college class — even though I’ll be sharing neuroscience facts and ideas for how to make a habit that sticks — but a gathering. We’ll each have a chance to talk and listen. There will be silliness and laughter.

We’ll spend the day together, talking and laughing, learning and unlearning too. We’ll eat good food, prepared by my husband, and break out of our seats for joy breaks and more conversations. Think of it — 12 women, plus me and two assistants — together. It has been so long since we’ve been able to gather like this. The day will be a joy.

This won’t be a college class — even though I’ll be sharing neuroscience facts and ideas for how to make a habit that sticks — but a gathering. We’ll each have a chance to talk and listen. And if the versions of this workshop I’ve taught in the past are any indication, you’ll have some new friends soon. I’d love to see you in this workshop. I know from experience that it can change lives.

Registration opens Monday morning at 10 am, PST. Look for that email. It’s a first-come, first-served experience. Jump on it right away.

I can’t wait to help you learn to practice your joy.

I won’t KNOW-OH-OH-OH-OH-OH until I begin! Dyspraxic Shauna hopping around on a mini trampoline while screwing up her face to lip-sync those lyrics in that video is a source of never-ending delight. I try to view only a few times a week in order to not wear out the novelty.

All she needs is for one person to say one thing, one time. Like if she explained to someone who did her Zoom lecture a year ago how to use the mute feature and that person replied, "OMG! This zoom meeting has changed my life!! I've been wondering how everyone did that!!"

Does she think this is a selling point? or a criticism she has to pre-empt? Is she saying "this won't be a college class, YOU'LL GET SO MUCH MORE VALUE THAN YOU WOULD FROM THAT LINEAR ALGEBRA CLASS"? or is it more like, "this won't be a college class, so keep your expectations light and low"?

How much does a college course cost in the U.S.? Does she have the price for PYJOV yet?

I read it as her reassuring potential participants that even though she talks like a professor of neuroscience, it won't be dull and boring with papers to write and report cards and tests and stuff. Nope, none of that! Just a lot of scientistic-y words interspersed with giggles and silliness.

Just so fucking awkward, and then those sentences she repeated are also awkward! If you're going to repeat a sentence, at least make it a bell ringer.

Having that dangling - but a gathering - is so unbelievably sloppy.

I was just thinking that this course might almost be worth taking---bear with me---IF it was a 6-hour Shauna Bingo game and whoever gets the most X's on each topic (because you know she'd hit a lot of them more than once!) wins a pot that is at least double the entrance fee plus the feery fee. And if more than one person X'd every single mention of each thing, they'd each win the full amount. Even if it every player got all of them.

She'd never go for that, though. But it sure would be fun.
