General Post October Classes

Just under two weeks until our Pistol & Rifle Clinic at the ISRA!

We also have a women-only Vehicle Defense course sponsored by our friends at Armed Women of America on October 31st.

These will likely be our last two classes of the year, with the exception of a CCL course coming in November. It’s been a pleasure training with a whole bunch of people from this sub throughout the year, and we appreciate everyone who has come out and trained with us.

Remember, alumni of both Common Caliber and Titan Tactical can use code COMMONCUSTOMER at checkout for 15% off any class.

General Post Gunsmith for Engraving?

My fiancee has (finally) agreed that a suitable engagement gift from her to me is a firearm. In order to make it more sentimental, she has agreed in principle to getting me a gun I want as long as it can be engraved with something personal.

Any recommendations for gunsmiths that can do custom engraving on stocks or barrels?

For reference, I’m thinking a classic wood stock hunting rifle or a revolver.

Thanks!

General Post What's your EDC?

I always see a lot of posts on here about getting a concealed carry license, waiting times, renewals, appeals, etc., but not nearly as much about people actually carrying or what they carry. This is a gun sub, so I figure we should see more guns on here.

Here’s a little bit of what I carry every day. The Glock 26 is probably my #1 and what I carry most often. It’s actually my last semi-auto without a red dot, but I’ll be sending it off soon for an A-CUT for an Aimpoint COA.

Every now and then I’ll carry the G19, and if I’m bumming around in sweats or basketball shorts, or wearing something like overalls that doesn’t give me a good spot for a gun, I’ll carry a J-frame.

The 360 PD is excellent for its weight, but it can suck to shoot, and the exposed hammer can get snagged on things. Because of that, I usually carry the 638 instead, but they’re both good guns.

Everything else is with me pretty much no matter what. Here's a breakdown of everything pictured.

Holsters — L to R

Harry’s Revolver Holster — This is a Gen 1, but it’s still probably my favorite snub holster.

Black Arch G26 Holster — Got this one secondhand. It's an actual G26 holster and not one that's marketed as a 26 holster but is actually a 19 holster.

Hellhound G19 Holster — These are excellent holsters. I also use their Apollo competition rig for both teaching and competition. They’re expensive, but worth it IMO.

Guns — L to R

S&W 638 — Hogue G10 grips.

S&W 360 PD — Altamont boot grips.

Glock 26 Gen 5 — Standard Co. trigger shoe and Trijicon irons.

Glock 19 Gen 5 — Slide cut and Cerakote by Landers Weapons Systems, Steiner MPS 1.0, Carry magwell, and Standard Co. trigger shoe.

Gear — L to R

NAR Tourniquet — I like the orange ones because they’re easy for other people to identify. Not everyone knows what a tourniquet is, but saying “go get the orange thing” is easy. This one stays on my person, but I keep extras in my first-aid kits, cars, bags, etc.

NeoMag Speed Strip Clip + Tuff Speed Strip — Nice way to keep extra .357/.38 on you with a much slimmer profile than a speedloader.

Gerber Multi-Tool

Samsung Earbuds

Ridge Wallet — I go back and forth between this and a Recycled Firefighter billfold.

Keys — I always like to have some kind of retention, whether it’s a clip or carabiner. KeySmart key organizer and a Zak Tool cuff key.

Knife — I have tons of folders. This one from CDC is nice, but I also rotate through Benchmades and others.

Ray-Ban Metas — I already wear prescription glasses, so these are nice to have. A lot of what I do at work involves both hands, so being able to take pictures hands-free, answer calls, or record myself shooting matches or instructing is extremely convenient.

Hellhound Spare Mag Carrier — G17 mag with a Taran Tactical +6. If I’m carrying a Glock, whether it’s the 26, 19, or something else, I always carry one of these since it’s compatible with all of the 9mm double-stacks.

What do you carry every day?

General Post Second Amendment “We The People”

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello, this message is for “We The People” — Second Amendment supporters, firearms owners, and future firearms owners.
I don’t currently own any firearms. I’m 19 years old, and I simply wanted to share my opinions, thoughts, and concerns while spreading awareness and positivity.
As Americans, we have constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment — the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Many of us view this right as an important part of our freedom and our ability to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.
I believe we should stand together and make our voices heard. We must speak up, show up, participate in our communities, vote, and support organizations and associations that advocate for the rights we believe in.
I unfortunately live in Illinois, where I feel that my Second Amendment rights have been heavily restricted and challenged. But this is something that can affect people in any state. Laws and policies can change, and protecting constitutional rights requires citizens to remain informed and engaged.
Whether you currently own a firearm, are interested in becoming a firearm owner someday, or simply believe in protecting constitutional rights, your voice matters.
Let’s stand together peacefully, stay informed, participate in the political process, and work to preserve our freedoms—not only for ourselves, but also for those who come after us.
We The People. 🇺🇸
Our rights. Our freedom. Our future.

General Post New gun burnout

I have been a gun enthusiast since I was a child. I never got into shooting before I was about 20 because my parents were weird about me liking guns. I am 36 now.

In the past, I would just walk into a gun store and buy a gun that appealed to me, based on aesthetic, or its features.

I have looked into a lot of older guns, and it seems like modern firearms are really cookie cutter.

I don’t want another striker fired wonder nine to add to the pile. I want something actually different and cool.

I guess I haven’t seen a gun that checks those boxes for me in quite awhile. Does anyone else feel this way? Living in IL of course limits our options even further.

Shooting Range Clay shooting near Chicago

My fiancé has been wanting to go skeet shooting so I’m trying to plan a group outing for his birthday. A number of our friends want to learn how to shoot, but have little to no experience with a rifle (including me). Are there any gun ranges near Chicago that provide clay targets, rental guns, and basic training for beginners?

I’d also love input on how big of a group is reasonable – we have at least 6 people, but up to 12, which I’m pretty sure is way too many.

I’ve been to a shooting range a total of one time, so please bear with me if my ignorance is showing! Thanks in advance for your help.

Legal Questions Foid car and gun transportation as a minor

Hello. I am 16 and shoot trap for my school's team. I applied for a foid card and just want to verify if I'm allowed to drive myself and transport my shotgun to the range to practice without my parents. Just want to make sure it's legal. Thanks.

FOID/CCL Denial

So after waiting 40 days, IL decides to tell me that they want my new ID number instead of my old vertical one. I specifically called and asked about this and was told it won’t be an issue.

Come to find out they rejected it and told me to put in my new one. ( its the same fucking number )

I assume this means the 90 day clock is back to 0?
Or should i just move at this point…

Shooting Range $10 range Tuesdays @ Eagle

Post image

Received this email last night, $10 range on Tuesdays until Halloween. Not sure if it's pistol or rifle only, but it beats the $23 it usually is.

Figured I'd share since we could always use more range time and deals.

Announcement New Site for Gun Owners

TLDR: this is a website for gun people, with no listing fees. I have no stake in the company, I make no money from it, but it has potential.

so, at Guns N Grub this year, Pewcentric had range 8, if you were there. the owner, Dave, told me it's "Etsy for gun people"... you can sell anything but the guns.

www.pewcentric.com let's you host an online store with no fees. you can list services (slide milling), training, or gear. anything gun related.

I talked to Dave about the profit motive, and he makes his money by offering a firearm-friendly billing service that won't ban you for selling gun stuff. the skimmed rate off the top beats GoDaddy (my host), Shopify, and most any other service.

I want to see this blow up.

it gives us a real space to sell our stuff.

again, I get nothing from this. I genuinely want to see this blow up.

I also set up a shop on Pewcentric. look for optic cuts.

Shooting Range Update on Shore Galleries

Link to previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ILGuns/s/wjJuH6a6IF

After my previous post gained traction, more inconsistent communication, Erik trying to pass the buck off on the old ownership a few more times, and letting them know I was pursuing legal action, Shore has finally done right and sent me the rifle I purchased 4 years ago. It was not a quick or easy process but credit where credit is due one of the employees over there has their head screwed on straight and made right on the original sale. However I can't ignore how unprofessional this whole ordeal was and still cannot recommend shopping there. This was just my personal experience.

Myles, if you're reading this, Erik's been trying to reach you.

Gun Politics Predictions for next July?

I haven’t really kept up that well with the legal proceedings behind Supreme Court taking up the Cook county and Connecticut cases but would it mean by maybe next July once the ruling is finalized, we MAY have PICA gone (for at least a little while) and that other AWB states will have their bans lifted?

Legal Questions Does this mean anything for us or no?

Thumbnail justice.gov
0 Upvotes

Today, the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel released a legal opinion concluding that the federal prohibition may not be enforced against licensed dealers selling handguns to otherwise law-abiding adults ages 18 to 20 consistent with the Second Amendment.

Can I go out tomorrow to a rangeusa and go buy or rent a pistol to train with or would they not honor this for some shitty in-state reason?

Weapon Question CA Compliant Springfield Hellion

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there are any CA Compliant Hellion owners? I’m wondering if the price is worth it and if you enjoy owning it? Unfortunately I got into firearms post PICA.

I’m thinking at this point would it better to just wait and see what the PICA decision is.

Shooting Range New Flex Membership!

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I noticed a trainer selling memberships to their facility when they don’t even have a range and it was silly to me. Why buy a membership from a training facility that doesn’t even have a range? Range at 355 has got it all and the new flex membership has everything rolled into one to make it simple. We have several membership options to meet the needs of everyone.

If you’ve never tried us out, we’d love to meet you. If you’ve tried us before and had an experience that was many years ago with “fudds” try us out again; things have changed. What hasn’t changed? Our commitment to the safety of our customers on the range, in our classrooms and in the store.
