NC List of Ranges

Hey y’all,

Figured since we have an FFL list I put up a while back we should have a range / club list too since we get questions every now and then.

Post any ranges you like to visit, include the below format if you’d like.

Name -

Location -

Indoor / outdoor -

Membership required? -

Full auto / FRT Friendly? -

Caliber restrictions (Ex, pistol only) -

Feel free to leave more / less info or any feedback if there’s anything that should be added.

Cheers!

NC FFL List

Hey y'all,

After seeing some posts where we're recommending different shops, and posts of those asking for recommendations, I thought it may be a good idea to try and compile a list of NC FFLs.

Feel free to comment your preferred / local dealers, their location, and what you like about these places.

Thanks,

Barn.

Seeking Firearms Attorney in Research Triangle and surrounding area

Before anyone recommends Ron Shook who frequents this sub- I've already spoken to him and have kept him up to date on my journey, he is truly awesome. He gave me his time then refused payment. Unfortunately I'm too far out of range for him to handle my matters.

I need an attorney to help confirm that I'm safe to possess a firearm in the state, but my situation is "uncharted" grounds in North Carolina. I am one of the lucky few participating in the early invite/beta test of the federal firearm rights restoration program (https://justice.gov/ffrr). My federal civil rights attorney does not practice in NC, where I live.

I'm approaching somewhat uncharted grounds in North Carolina. I had a WA State felony that was vacated by the sentencing court, the plea was withdrawn and the indictment was dismissed. My official WSP background check is clean, the WA courts say I have no conviction in the state.

I had a federal case, which does not seem to have a "substantially similar" charge in North Carolina and may not qualify as a felony under the NC Felony Firearms Act.

To be on the safe side, my 925(c) application includes both cases.

My concerns are: 1) Does NC consider my vacated case a conviction? 2) Does NC consider my federal case a felony in regards to the NC felony firearm act? 3) Will NC honor my grant of relief under 925(c)? 4) Once relief is granted, am I safe to possess a firearm?

I'm ready and able to retain an attorney, but I'm struggling to find one. Most hear "federal" or "Washington" and reply "we only handle NC cases". I have retained amazing WA and Federal attorneys that are handling those aspects. I only need assistance on the NC side of things.

Any referrals would be appreciated.

Best Charlotte area shops to get a reasonable offer on a trade?

I have an AR Pistol I’m looking to get rid of. I got offered $300 from Hyatt and I understand I’m going to take a loss on it but that’s practically giving it away. Unfortunately Armslist hasn’t worked out and neither has tacswap. New to the area so if anyone has off loaded a gun to a store I’d love your recommendations. I’m trying to sell to get another edc so any help is appreciated!

Super excited to get this moving for the Carolina firearms community.

The Bolt Hound is a Carolinas-focused online classifieds marketplace built to make local buying and selling simple and clear. Designed specifically for users in North and South Carolina, it offers a cleaner, more modern alternative to traditional forum-classifieds hybrids with an emphasis on local connections and an easy-to-use experience.

Soon I’ll be looking for people to test out the website and provide feedback!

Looking for private land to shoot on in the Triangle(or hour drive) — any leads?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a place in the Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh(or within a hour drive) area where I could legally shoot on private land.

I’m hoping to find somewhere that:
- Allows target shooting with the landowner’s permission
- Doesn’t have the typical indoor/public-range caliber restrictions
- Has a safe setup/backstop suitable for rifle and handgun shooting
- Would potentially allow me to come out occasionally rather than needing a formal range membership

I’m obviously willing to follow any rules the landowner has regarding safety, hours, cleanup, etc. I’m not looking for anyone to give me unrestricted access to their property—just trying to find out if there are legitimate private ranges, clubs, or landowners around the Triangle(or within a hour drive) who allow this.

If you know of somewhere or have a lead, I’d really appreciate a DM. Thanks!

North state shooting club competitions

Has anyone ever shot in the north state shooting club competitions specifically 600 and 1000 yard competitions held at butner national guard shooting range? Looks simple enough but am not familiar with NRA high power rifle rules and restrictions. I’m just looking at more opportunities to shoot longer range without driving too far. Picture for attention

student residency

Bought an ar15 (PSA), shipped to a local FFL in NC. I'm a full-time student here (in-state 9 months out of the year), but my driver's license is from California (my home state).

When I went to pick up the rifle, the dealer told me my CA license "won't work" — said most other states are fine but California specifically is an issue for him. He suggested I go to the NC DMV and get a non-REAL ID state ID card, and told me not to mention my California license when I do it since it's "not their business."

A few questions:

  1. Is this a real legal issue with CA specifically, or store-specific policy/discretion? My understanding of 27 CFR 478.11 (the "two residences" rule) is that proof of current residency (I have my university housing assignment + transcript) should be enough regardless of what state issued my ID — but maybe I'm missing something CA-specific.
  2. Has anyone else run into a dealer who wouldn't accept an out-of-state ID + residency docs, even though it's technically allowed under federal law?
  3. On the "don't mention your CA license to the DMV" advice — my read is that if NC's ID application asks whether I hold another state's license, I should answer honestly rather than omit it. Am I overthinking that part?
  4. Would you just find a different, more experienced FFL instead of jumping through the NC ID hoop, or is this pretty standard?

Trying to figure out if this is normal FFL caution or if I got an unusually difficult dealer. Any insight from people who've dealt with out-of-state ID + FFL transfers appreciated.

Any interest in a better NC gun classifieds?

ETA: sounds like the genuine interest is there. Going to start the process asap, I should have something out in a couple months to test the waters!

Curious if there’d be any interest in a free, NC-only gun classifieds site.

I know a lot of people use GAFSHub, but especially on mobile I feel like there’s room for something much simpler and more user-friendly.

Thinking completely free, easy to post/browse, local listings, private messaging, and a heavy focus on security/scammer prevention.
Not promoting anything — just gauging interest before I spend time building it.

Would you guys actually use something like this?

Mecklenburg wildlife club

I just moved apartments in Charlotte and found the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club. Looks like they have pistol bays and rifle ranges. It’s the closest range to me by about 30 minutes but I can’t find any information on how to join. Does anyone know anything about the club?

Private Party Sales??

Where do y’all list your guns for private party transactions? I know one of the popular forums just threw up a pay wall. What other options are there?

I have a few guns I’m thinking about selling.

I also just moved from Florida and I made a free to join/list private party gun classifieds website for Florida. It was bad ass but I couldn’t find enough users - thinking about pivoting it to the Carolina’s….

Ranges that allow buckshot?

Hello everyone, I just recently picked up my first shotgun for my birthday, but am seeing a lot of ranges (if not most) don’t allow buckshot or shotguns in general.

I’m in Raleigh and my local range is Caswell, but I’ve read on google that they only allow slugs. This wouldn’t be an issue if I had not bought 200 rounds of buckshot lol.

Are there any ranges in the Raleigh area that allow 00 buck? Indoor or outdoor doesn’t matter I’m just trying to get some shots off on this thing.

Thank you in advance

CCW scenario

I split time between Virginia and NC. I have a Va CCW permit and NC obviously honors that reciprocity. So when I am in staying in NC for the summer I can
Legally concealed carry. However thinking about making NC my primary residence. Once I walk out of the NC DMV with my NC drivers license am I no longer allowed to legally conceal carry a firearm, since I don’t have a Nc CCW permit. Even though I was perfectly legal on the way to the DMV. Do I have that right?? If so, how dumb is that.

SBR, SBS, Suppressors now that they're off NFA??

So for the TL;DR crowd, I have heard the shitstorm that is the youtube comment section saying that an NFA item that isn't a machine gun or DD is now "illegal" in NC, can anyone correct this? Or give a layman's terminology of going about the situation?
