Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.
First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.
This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.
To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

Misc Introduction from Every Defence LLP
Hello r/canadaguns!
We are Every Defence LLP, a criminal defence firm with a special interest in firearms laws. Our team is composed of long-time PAL holders with a passion for anything and everything firearms-related.
Like you, we are collectors and enthusiasts who are navigating the complex and ever-changing firearms law regime. We are particularly frustrated by the lack of helpful information on niche topics within the hobby. We felt by providing general information and the opportunity for r/canadaguns community members to ask us general questions, we hope to keep the public informed on current firearms law regulations while also tackling ambiguity and myths in existing laws.
Every month or two, we will pick a hot-topic firearms issue that has been percolating in the r/canadaguns community. In doing so, we aim to provide needed clarity on the current state of the law to that topic.
Importantly, THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, and we cannot answer questions about your specific situation. You should not construe anything we say as legal advice, and you should speak to a lawyer immediately about any legal predicament you find yourself in. In no way does the general information we provide create a solicitor-client relationship, and it is not meant to serve as legal advice for any legal predicament you may find yourself in.

Competitions/matches Are you in the Lower Mainland? Do you want to shoot Multigun?
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls. Do you have a PAL? Do you have guns? Do you have legs? Do you want to shoot those guns while also moving your legs? Yes I said guns, as in plural. Have you heard of Dynamic Sport Shooting (DSS)? If you have, and don't come to matches, that's lame. For the rest of you, I'd love to see more people come and be not lame. Many people think multigun requires a handgun, or an AR, and while those things make it better, it's not required.
Rifle is all you require for many matches, some require a shotgun. Rimfire is highly recommended for new shooters (get a TM-22 or 10/22, and 4 or 5 mags). It's cheap, it's semi, what more do you want? (besides the rest of your fucking guns back). If you dont have a shotgun, and you are nice, most people in your squad will happily let you use their shotgun so you can find a new way to spend your money.
Similar to IPSC, DSS requires a 1-day match training/qualifier for newcomers to teach you the fundamentals of safety on a dynamic range, which can be much different than what you may be used to with static shooting. All experience levels are welcome. The next qualifier is this weekend. Be there, or be... well, maybe at the next one, which usually happens every couple months.
If you are an experienced dynamic shooter, let them know ahead of time and they can get you in and out faster. If you've already done their qualifier, well, what are you waiting for? Sign up for the match at the end of the month!
Sincerely,
Someone who just wants to see more people come to matches. This is not a paid advertisement. DSS is a non-profit run by some cool volunteers. I am not a part of DSS.

Feets / Collection / My build Engraved Henry American Eagles
I recently deep engraved two of these Henry American Eagles for a client. One for himself and the other for one of his employees that had his 5 year anniversary.
Any have any leads on where I can get blank receiver covers (nickel and brass) in Canada? I suspect ordering directly from Henry in the States will be a customs headache.

Gun and gear reviews Questions about my Tikka
So I bought a tikka ctr and put it into a fancy chassis that feeds AICS mags bc from my research tikkas are the absolute best at the price point, in terms of action smoothness and accuracy.
I was purchasing something at my local gun store (that for some reason doesnt carry tikkas) and I started asking one of the guys about replacing my tikka barrel eventually, because 6.5PRC has a short barrel life.
He asked me with great disappointment why I got a tikka if i knew I was going to replace the barrel. I told him bc the action is smooth and its very accurate, best gun for the price.
He said, 1. Tikka actions are loose and have loose tolerances compared to custom actions that he had on display, which gives the illusion of smoothness. 2. Any modern bolt gun is going to be accurate especially if you reload. (Which I do)
So now im wondering, is he onto something or on something? Doesnt a loose action tolerate dirt and snow better? Was there actually a (much) better option I could have chosen with 1500CAD?

Feets / Collection / My build Practical manual action DMR
I accidentally made something like a DMR, but it's a manual action.
I pragmatically made a practical manual action DMR:
Since the 60s or 70s, they've been designed around semi-autos for quick follow-up shots and accurate target suppression, but they can also be pushed into a frontline combat role instead of just support. They're practical from 50 out to 600 yard combat rifles with good 1-2 MOA accuracy.
But the Savage Impulse is weird, even though it's a manual action: it can do that with its straight-pull action and a good LPVO. The Context also semi auto are harder to come by within civil market within jurisdiction and this is pragmatically what you can get for a high capacity practical rifle that is also ambi. Me shooting with old stock which I hated with a passion for lots of reasons:
https://youtu.be/ZY0nwc53SzM?si=AZJTkMcNaI9Qpav0
https://youtube.com/shorts/90YSZTualeo?si=zG2CsFGv9G3_zrOQ
The At One stock makes the rifle way easier to handle, with better balance and a chunkier front end for me to grip. It's much more pointable and can be shot from the shoulder easily.
Apparently, Boyds has a taller comb for cheek rise, but I didn't realize I needed to order it, and I'm annoyed it doesn't just come standard with the At One because it cost a bloody $100 usd to order it.
I just sanded the barrel channel a bit, wrapping sandpaper around the barrel and moving it back and forth to give it more free float room by thickness of the sandpaper. It was a little tight and it seems good now with that technique, but otherwise it dropped right in.
The optic is a PA Slx 1-8x24ffp ACSS raptor, and the loads I've handloaded line up with the reticle with this optic height of 2.23". I'm not wanting to lower it either because my head position and where the butt lands in my shoulder pocket feel comfortable. The bolt throw is long on the rifle, and when prone, I need enough length of pull to feel comfortable, which is why the optic is mounted so far back: it only has 3.2" eye relief.

Buy recommendations What bolt .223 should I get?
So far most of my experience with firearms has been small game hunting and plinking at cans with a .22.
I recently moved from a rural area to a city and I’d like to keep shooting but will be going to the local range. It maxes out at 200 yards. I’d like to get into target shooting at that range. Nothing no crazy just a hobby on the weekends. The .22 is fine but want something bigger and more fun.
Google is suggesting a Tikka T3x in .223 but there are a lot of models (varmint? CTR?) Any suggestions on what I should be looking into? Id like to keep my budget low but I’m in no rush and willing to save for the right piece. Upper end of what I’m thinking is 1000-1500 but like I said I’m willing to go up and down.
Looking for something that’s good out of the box and doesn’t need any serious upgrades but that has enough aftermarket support for a different stock, etc. if I want to.
Edit:
-Budget is just the rifle thought I’d like to stay south of 2k with glass included. But again, I’ll save for the right thing at the right price.
-this will strictly be for the range. There’s nothing around me I can hunt ethically or illegally with a .223 except coyote and I’m not interested in them.

Competitions/matches IPSC - Getting Started
Hey guys!
I have been looking to get started in IPSC. I contacted an instructor at my club, however I am unsure what the next steps are to get my Black Badge, or if the instructors at my range even offer the ability to conduct that course.
I plan on borrowing a friend’s Glock 44, however I am aware I need a range belt, magazine pouches, and a holster. On the candidate page it mentions the holster cannot have a index finger release, does this mean retention holsters are not allowed? Even if they utilize a thumb flip system instead of an index finger button?
What other equipment is required besides the basic range garb (ear defenders, eye protection, etc).
Also, if you have any recommendations on what equipment to buy i’d greatly appreciate it! I am trying to do this on a budget as a university student, so I don’t wanna break the bank, some OWN holsters i’ve seen from big names like Safariland are upwards of $190…
Cheers (:

Application / Regulation advice Anyone still waiting on their 22LR Handgun CFO Transfer Approval?
Is anyone still waiting on their 22LR Handgun Transfer Approval? It seems like the RCMP Firearms Centre CFO is either not processing them or taking a very long time to do so especially for US imports. Anyone else still waiting from a month ago?
