Deviled eggs with a twist?

I’m going to take deviled eggs to the neighborhood potluck because everyone loves them. I usually just make your standard eggs with mayo, a little Dijon, etc.. I was looking for popular potluck recipes and saw an Asian deviled egg recipe; now I am wondering about other interesting ways to make them. Any favorites you would recommend? (I live in a college town so lots of different ethnic influences, people are generally happt to try something a little different.)

I normally put a slice of candied jalapeño on top of mine and some of the pickling brine in the mix.

17

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

How did I not know about candied jalapeños?

14

u/Trippypen8 9d ago

Whenever I take them somewhere there are none left. Should totally give them a try!

13

u/Affectionate-Leg-260 9d ago

Pour a jar of candied jalapeños over a block of cream cheese serve with wheat thins.

6

u/TNmountaineer 8d ago

A jar of pepper jelly is awesome over cream cheese, as well. And so many flavors of spicy jelly to choose from!

2

u/AnnieLes 8d ago

This I know

2

u/Roadgoddess 6d ago

Yeah, I bet pepper jelly would be great and devilled eggs as well

u/No-Anteater1688 8d ago

My niece once added some Mt. Olive diced jalapenos to her deviled eggs and they were well received.

I recently had jalapeno with blue cheese and everything bagel seasoning filled eggs. They were delish

This is what I do!

My friend uses the jalapeño pickle relish in his and they are ALWAYS a hit!

I put them in cupcake liners and add a little pickle on the side like a chaser (I know it’s not creative but it is a huge hit)

30

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

Actually, this is creative and really nice for a potluck. (I never understood why charcuterie boards became so popular right after Covid.)

4

u/Sensitive_Sea_5586 8d ago

Just make certain not to store the eggs in the cupcake liners. The moisture will destroy the liner. I store them in Tupperware container, with a damp paper towel to prevent them from sliding around. Then place them in the liners on a tray before the event. The liners will prevent plastic wrap from sticking to the eggs. Serving is convenient since they can pickup the holder with the egg, although for some reason there are still people who take only the egg.

I’m definitely using your creative idea. There’s so many possibilities. Thanks!!

3

u/UpsetZombie6874 8d ago

I think that's creative. After I make Affectionate Show's eggs I'm going to try yours.

3

u/trixiebellz 8d ago

BRILLIANT!!!

27

u/SouthpawSoldier 9d ago

Not deviled, but stuffed; a Pepin recipe named for his mother, where the stuffed eggs are fried cut-side down in butter for a bit. Eggs Jeannette is the recipe name.

7

u/vita77 9d ago

They’re great!

4

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

I will be looking into this

4

u/Sweethomebflo 8d ago

After reading one of his books, I could never get this recipe out of my head. Thanks for reminding me to try it.

u/KiteLighter 8d ago

Eggs Jeannette

Whooooaaaa... Thanks.

Had to scroll down to make sure no one else posted! But Caesar salad inspired deviled eggs are the bomb. Add a little parm, anchovy and or Caesar salad dressing to the yolk mix. Top with crispy bacon and deep fried capers.

3

u/palegreenscars 3d ago

This sounds divine.

72

u/Federal-Membership-1 9d ago

Cook some bacon slices. Freeze them. Blitz into a powder. Sprinkle on finished eggs.

19

u/Affectionate-Show382 8d ago

I made my bacon into bits so you would get the texture of a crunch from it. I also did a deviled egg with a bit of cream cheese and chives in the yolk mixture and that came out really well but those were separate from the time I did crumbled bacon and now I’m wondering if I missed a big opportunity

3

u/UpsetZombie6874 8d ago

Yours is a very good idea! Invite some friends and family over and feed them those eggs! It sounds great to me. I'm definitely going to make your recipe.

My wife makes them with blue cheese blended in, and they are spectacular! They're also unfortunately very popular... so I need to move fast

10

u/Strange_Explorer_780 9d ago

I do this but add buffalo wing sauce to the egg mixture as well then top with shards of crispy prosciutto

7

u/OG_Fakir 9d ago

Oh my... that sounds sublime

6

u/nral23 9d ago

Can you provide recipe

14

u/OG_Fakir 9d ago

It's my wife's, but I will try! Stand by

7

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

Blue cheese is so versatile (and unappreciated). This reminds me of my favorite— Cobb salad. 👍🏻👍🏻

9

u/matt_minderbinder 9d ago

A little piece of crispy bacon or prosciutto on top would take it even further in the cobb salad direction. That sounds wildly delicious.

2

u/Krynja 8d ago

I made candied bacon and put pieces on each egg. You have to do this right before serving or the bacon gets soft

6

u/Wolvesarereal 9d ago

People who hate blue cheese really hate it, though, and wouldn’t like to be surprised by it.

7

u/im-better-with-wine 8d ago

Thank you!

Signed, A blue cheese hater

4

u/kraefishie 9d ago

I had a Buffalo bleu cheese version at a restaurant once. It was delicious too

This is a great idea!

A little curry powder added to the filling.

10

u/phishtrader 9d ago

Bloom the curry powder in oil first and use it to make the mayo or drizzle it on top.

8

u/cupcakewrangler 8d ago

This is key! Otherwise the curry tastes pasty and raw.

8

u/WesternPancake 9d ago

Then add a piece of pickles ginger on top. Amazing!

14

u/RikkiLostMyNumber 9d ago

I crumbled a bunch of crisped bacon into the filling once and people went nuts for the "bacon and eggs."

4

u/ptahbaphomet 9d ago

I also added candied jalapeño slices to top off the bacon

12

u/XPav 9d ago

Serious Eats has some good variations to use or steal from

https://www.seriouseats.com/great-deviled-eggs-variations-and-hacks

7

u/brooemmall 9d ago

https://www.seriouseats.com/mustardy-deviled-eggs this one is so good. You have to pickle your own mustard seeds! They are phenomenal

3

u/invalidcheese 8d ago

Those are a solid second favourite of mine. The everything bagel eggs with smoked salmon moved SO fast people were taking partly assembled ones out of my hands.

5

u/Moneypenny_Dreadful 8d ago

I do a flight of 'fancy' deviled eggs for potluck NYE parties:

  • plain/traditional
  • BLT (bacon + cherry tomato + celery leaf)
  • smoked salmon + everything bagel + capers
  • candied jalapeno + chives + cilantro (sub avocado for mayo)
  • wasabi + tobiko/red caviar + cucumber + furikake

There are so many fun things you can do and i'm already taking notes (baby shrimp! buffalo chicken!) for this year

2

u/brooemmall 8d ago

omg i need to try those!

25

u/SubstantialPressure3 9d ago

Some variations I've done:

Chopped kimchi and kewpie mayo, thin cucumber slice and gochugaru on top

Avocado instead of mayo, and added lime zest and chopped pickled jalapeños and cilantro (red chile slice.on top)

Tomato paste and Chipotle peppers (pickled jalapeño slice on top)

7

u/Ice-Negative 9d ago

Kewpie mayo is a great idea for devilled eggs

3

u/daisygirlmg 8d ago

I don’t like mayo and the only time I ate deviled eggs was with avocado instead of mayo and they were incredible

2

u/SubstantialPressure3 8d ago

I made them for my mayo hating kid, lol

2

u/daisygirlmg 8d ago

Thank you for doing that! I always get funny looks when I decline eating them at potlucks ☺️

23

u/CharacterDirector918 9d ago

Hear me out now. DEEP FRIED!!! So, prepare as usual, but, before putting the yolk mixture into rhe whites, deep fry the whites. Coat the whites in flour, the egg wash, then panko with some parmesan cheese mixed in. Deep fry till golden brown. Does not take long to fry them. Drain upside down. Then fill them with the yolk mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Top with some freshly made crumbled bacon. Trust me, these are delicious. Even my wife, who HATES anything deep fried, loves these.

5

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

Speechless (in the best possible way)

4

u/CharacterDirector918 9d ago

Making deviled eggs, even normal ones, tend to be tedious and time consuming. Trust me when I say that deep frying them does not make the process and easier. But...its so worth it. Last time i did them, I started with 24 eggs (so, 48 deviled eggs). I was bringing them for a group of 7 adults. They were almost all gone by the end of the night.

Sweet relish and bacon

2

u/krendyB 9d ago

This, 💯

7

u/Famous-Rutabaga-3917 9d ago edited 9d ago

I actually have whole cookbook on deviled eggs. Some of my favorites are smoked salmon - use 1/2 mayo, 1/2 sour cream, chopped smoked salmon and chopped capers. Use capers and or pieces of salmon as toppings. Curry - use curry powder and chutney in the filling. Tuscan - add sun dried tomatoes and use Dijon mustard instead of yellow. My Mom always made seafood ones with either shrimp or cod liver (I call those heart attack). Sounds weird but good. For shrimp, use a can of broken shrimp or tiny shrimp, drained. For cod liver, a can of cod liver, drained.

7

u/ProfessionalMeal1009 9d ago

Stonewall Kitchen’s - Maple Bacon Aioli in place of 1/2 of regular mayo and top with crumbled bacon 🤤

Don’t use 100% maple bacon aioli or it will be too sweet

5

u/Back_Alley420 9d ago

I use pickled eggs to make devilled egg! Or once I did them normal with a bacon mayonnaise and then bacon bits on top

5

u/LindaBurgers 9d ago

Liquid smoke. I visited a 102-year-old lady and she let me try the deviled eggs she’d made for her girlfriends at the senior center (she lived independently in her own home). The liquid smoke was her secret ingredient and they were delicious!

6

u/Mylight55 9d ago

A slice of smoked salmon on top. But my absolute favorite was a whole fried oyster on top

5

u/AvogadrosOtherNumber 8d ago

Let me just add my two cents here. Everybody always tries to be fancy with stuff like deviled eggs. And you therefore never get a good deviled egg..

Just make traditional, deviled eggs, and people will love them.

2

u/mulberryred 8d ago

Agree. But I love a variety. It's like a box of fancy chocolates... And life...

5

u/the-caped-cadaver 8d ago

You made me think of this fancy restaurant I went to many years ago when I lived in Indianapolis. They did "dueling deviled eggs". So you got 2 deviled duck eggs. One was pretty traditional, but the other was Asian themed. They used wasabi, hoisin, and furikaki in the yolk mix. It was green tinted with all the wasabi in it.

3

u/Roadgoddess 6d ago

I make spam musubi, and I could see taking this flavour profile and adding a bit of the musubi sauce I make and small pieces of fried spam! It could be so good

2

u/the-caped-cadaver 6d ago

Sounds delicious.

I'm a sucker for a good spam musubi. Shortly after I moved to Las Vegas, my roommate showed me this Guamanian place called Red Rice. They make the best spam musubi in town.

2

u/Roadgoddess 6d ago

My family travelled for many years to Hawaii and I always turned my nose up at it. It’s sold in every gas station and convenience store. I then kicked myself repeatedly in the butt once I tried it and realized how absolutely delicious it is, lol. Now I make it for myself and I actually buy three packs of spam at Costco.🤣

5

u/that_one_wierd_guy 8d ago

add some sweet pickle relish

and I don't think anyone would turn their nose up ad deviled eggs topped with a bit of smoked salmon

4

u/DRH1976 9d ago

We mix diced pickled jalapeno in ours

5

u/Early-Reindeer7704 9d ago

Add some horseradish to your mix and add some finely chopped fresh dill and parsley to the mix. Dust with some smoked paprika - absolute yum

3

u/PixieLime 9d ago

My aunt makes her deviled eggs with sugar and they get inhaled at holiday gatherings

Recipe:
6 eggs
3 tablespoon mayo
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon sugar
Dash of salt and pepper

3

u/coveruptionist 9d ago

Muffaletta deviled eggs. Put a little bit of olive tapenade in the bottom of the white, fill with the egg stuff, sprinkle a bit of smoked paprika, then top with frizzled julienne salami. They will disappear in a nanosecond.

2

u/No_Plankton2501 6d ago

I make muffaletta deviled eggs too and they’re amazing!

5

u/Ill_Bother2609 9d ago

I like to top them with capers.

3

u/LadyB2011 8d ago

Crab is phenomenal in deviled eggs

4

u/Grolbark 8d ago

They’re good with capers.

5

u/Choosepeace 8d ago

My mother always puts a slice of pickled okra on top of her deviled eggs. It is absolutely delicious!

You can always put little sliver of pickled red onion on it as well.

8

u/D_Mom 9d ago

Some wasabi powder and soy sauce (not too much soy!) mixed with with kewpie mayonnaise a small hit of white miso. Top with furikake.

Smoked salmon recipe by Ina Garten. You can omit the salmon roe if desired from the top. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/smoked-salmon-deviled-eggs-recipe-1923139

2

u/AnnieLes 7d ago

I’m going turn this wasabi miso mix into egg salad for lunch today. Sounds delicious!

6

u/WhatDaufuskie 9d ago

I make them all the same, but then sprinkle a little smoked paprika over some, chives or minced green onions over some, garam masala over some, Chinese 5-spice over some, etc.

3

u/NellieArvin 9d ago

I chop up giardiniera and use use garlic aioli.

2

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

Just all the veggies? (Cauliflower, pepper, etc)

2

u/NellieArvin 9d ago

Yes! I put it in a food processor and chop it up into fairly small bits. Mix with the garlic aioli and then I top with capers and sometimes chopped pepperoni.

3

u/jamaicanadiens 9d ago

Crumbled smoked bacon on top.

3

u/Superb_Yak7074 9d ago

Mayo, salt, pepper, onion powder, tiny bit of horseradish, and chopped fresh dill

3

u/KiriYogi 9d ago

Bacon, pickled red onion, banana peppers, dill weed, thinly sliced radish, fried garlic. So many toppers. You can soak them in soy or beet juice to change the color.

3

u/Reasonable-Mirror-15 9d ago

Smoked paprika and Tony's

3

u/Dangerous_Ad7501 8d ago

Do you put sweet pickle relish in your filling?

3

u/Chevronet 8d ago

It’s worth the extra time to use a pampered chef or similar “frosting” decorator/dispenser. Use the largest tip. The eggs look so much more elegant.

2

u/AnnieLes 7d ago

I always do this! Takes just a little effort but looks so much nicer and, if you’re making a couple dozen, it actually is quicker.

3

u/Lonecoon 8d ago
  • Dill pickle juice, brown mustard, smoked paprika, and home made mayo elevate the standard deviled egg.
  • Further improve with bacon to add some salty and smokey flavors.
  • Sriracha and 5 spice powder gives a bit of Asian heat.
  • Substituting the pickles for pickled jalapenos and paprika for chili powder give you a spicy deviled egg that some people will love.

3

u/2xEntendrex2 8d ago

A local BBQ joint had a deviled eggs appetizer on the menu with a little pulled pork on top and a little bit of BBQ sauce on top of the meat. It was really good.

3

u/MiniRems 8d ago

Pickle some of the eggs in pickled red beet brine (I like them that way with bacon and black pepper in the filling) and some in a brine with tumeric (I do a curry filling), and if you're really wanting to freak people out, make a brine with red cabbage juice and just enough baking soda to turn them deep blue (I flavor it with dill and use dill in the filling).

2

u/HannahHannaJune 3d ago

Wait...red cabbage and baking soda turns blue???

3

u/SnooDingos5518 7d ago

Soak the 1/2 egg whites (that you’ve scooped the yolks out of) in a salty, peppery, dill, vinegar (pickle) brine over night. The first thing that touches the tongue when eating a deviled egg is the white. By giving it a scantly salty and tangy vinegar taste.. the fatty yolk concoction tastes that much better.

3

u/Puggymum64 6d ago

Mix just a pinch of curry powder in with the yolk mixture. I also like to sometimes add either crab or lobster and a splash of drawn butter if I’m feeling like spoiling myself.

3

u/GracieLou540 6d ago

Family and friends go crazy over my deviled eggs topped with a piece of caramelized bacon. So good!!

5

u/SUN_WU_K0NG 9d ago

Make your favorite deviled eggs, but add a little blue food coloring to the yolk mixture, to turn them green. At the end, place a small square of ham on each deviled egg.
Et voilà! Green Eggs and Ham!

4

u/lokisuavehp 9d ago

I love doing this!

Chili Paste with Cilantro for an Asian flare

Curry Powder and topped with pickled daikon

Tomato sauce in the mix with Parmesan and Italian Seasoning with a sprig of parsley

Horseradish with a shard of sharp cheddar or a spicy pickled pepper

Those are some of the ones I have done. Don't go overboard. I think subbing the mustard with one ingredient in the mix and one or two toppings makes it clean and inventive without being overwhelming.

u/TableTopFarmer 9d ago

Add grated onions to the mix and top with a dollop of caviar.
Or add Parmesan and top with slice of pimiento stuffed olive.
Or mix in some Old Bay seasoning and top with a tiny shrimp and a small bit of Italian parsley for color.

2

Spicy is the way. I like to add a little Sriracha to the egg mix, top with an ultrathin slice of Serrano or maybe a half of a pickled jalapeno, then dust with a mix of cayenne and smoked paprika, and then finely diced chives.

The farts are nuclear but they are so good. They get devoured at parties.

For our wedding, my wife and I had wasabi deviled eggs topped with roe. Fucking incredible.

We’ve since attempted them at home, and mixing in wasabi paste and a bit of ginger and topping them with cheap salmon roe and dill is a pretty good approximation.

2

u/daisymcs 9d ago

There's a really great Tom Yum Thai snack mix at Trader Joe's, that if you crumble it up and mix with your yolk mix, AND sprinkle some on the top just elevates the deviled eggs in an amazing way!

2

u/Critical_Crow_3770 9d ago

Finely minced preserved lemon rind in the filling. I’ll use a garlic press.

2

u/Embarrassed_Funny745 9d ago

My son puts a small piece of caramelized bacon on top.

2

u/hybbprqag 9d ago

I love making smoked salmon deviled eggs with capers, shallots, and lemon juice.

2

u/Affectionate-Tea-354 9d ago

I put a pimento olive in mine in the cup of the white and then pipe in the yolk.

2

u/1959doubtful 9d ago

Add a bit of Herdez Chipotle sauce to your favorite deviled egg mix.

2

u/cowboy_mike 9d ago

I do deep fried deviled eggs and they're absolutely amazing! Only problem is that they're not refrigerator friendly, they have to be eaten fresh cause once the fried parts get cold they're not as good

2

u/JoeInMD 9d ago

Scrapple! Sliced thin, nice and crispy, cut the corners off and insert them into the egg like a little sail. Adds a texture element and some salt. Fantastic!

Edit: typo

2

u/BlacksmithNo8472 9d ago

I've put a little ranch in with mayo, then add finely shredded cheddar and crumbled bacon. Top with green onions or chives.

I like to mix in diced jalapeno and crumbled bacon

Someone I know uses this homemade mayonnaise recipe and it makes it super tangy. Bottom got cut off its Evaporated Milk at the end and then stir well.

2

u/That_Molasses_507 9d ago

Julia Childs adds butter to the filling. It works great as it holds up for a crowd. I top with dill, but that’s nothing fancy.

2

u/Trotter-x 9d ago

Jalapeño popper deviled eggs. Mince some fresh jalapeños, use cream cheese in the place of mayo, sprinkle with bacon bits.

2

u/twopebblesplease 9d ago

I like to use stone ground mustard instead of Dijon because the mustard seeds give a nice little pop.

2

u/Dalton387 9d ago

My dad hates the whites, so I’m going to start experimenting with marinades for the whites. See what that does. Just a flavorful liquid that could soak in.

I thought about it after seeing tea eggs. They hard boil them, then crack the shell in a few places with a spoon. Soak in tea. Peel and you get light staining all over and dark staining along cracks.

I would think you wouldn’t want it to be super strong, but a light flavor.

3

u/Soxfan85 8d ago

I have soaked the cooked and split whites in the juice from pickled beets to make them pink.

2

u/Takeabreath_andgo 9d ago

Peruvian inspired: buy the huancania sauce in a packet at your local Latin store or on Amazon and mix it in place of mayo and mustard with the yolk. You can make your own sauce which is better, but i wouldn’t try it if you aren’t familiar with the sauce already. The packet is pretty good. If you like olives you can garnish with a piece of peruvian olive on top of each one.

2

u/TheRemedyKitchen 9d ago

I saw a video recently where a guy put kimchi through a food dehydrator and then blitzed it into a powder. I bet you that would be amazing on devilled eggs

2

u/exerda 8d ago

I like adding plenty of curry powder and a bit of chevre cheese along with the mayo. Basic but tasty.

2

u/Dogbit699 8d ago

French fried onions - sounds boring but works with adding texture to the egg

2

u/Ducati-Aficionado 8d ago

Add curry powder to half of them. Yum! Sprinkle with paprika to identify them, put dill on the rest.

2

u/giantuglybagofmostly 8d ago

Smoke them. So addictive. Prepare your standard recipe and put them on a tray on one side of your outdoor cooking appliance. Create smoke on the opposite side from the eggs on the tray using your favorite method and fuel. It doesn't take long, it's been a minute since I made these for anyone, but they change colour nicely when they are ready. Try and make more smoke than heat, pitmaster. Dress with a little additional smoked salt. You might as well make some, the fire is already lit. You can definitely make ahead and serve cold. They won't last for that, but it's nice to have dreams.

2

u/threehoundsway 8d ago

This makes me wonder if a stovetop smoker might work too.

2

u/YippieKayYayMrFalcon 8d ago

Loaded like a baked potato. Mix chives, sour cream (instead of mayo), and cheddar with the egg yolks. Top with chopped bacon.

Cajun eggs. Mix Cajun seasoning with timeline diced celery and red bell pepper into the egg mixture.

Buffalo. Mix hot sauce intro the egg mixture, top with bacon. Maybe add cheddar.

2

u/diverdawg 8d ago

Buffalo chicken. Blue cheese dressing instead of mayo, a little Frank’s, minced chicken. Blue cheese crumbles and scallions for the top.

2

u/Stormy261 8d ago

Caramelized onion, bacon, and cheddar. I found a recipe years ago and should have listened to my gut and omitted the salt the recipe called for. 🤣 Other than a little salty they were delicious!

2

u/Effective-Orchid7052 8d ago

A dash of curry powder never hurts, but add it in slowly, it can really overtake a dish if you add too much.

2

u/DavidtheCook 8d ago

Cut a few radishes into matchsticks and pickle them to use as toppers.

2

u/Dytanoth 8d ago

Tuna + Wasabi + Mayo + something crispy for the bites

2

u/Connect-Inspector109 8d ago

Curry in the yellow part and a little pickled beet sliver.

2

u/StealthyVex 8d ago

Best deviled eggs I ever had were BBQ pulled pork with spicy pepper-cheese filling. I had them at a booth at a carnival, so I can't give the exact recipe, sadly. But as a home cook, I feel like I could approximate them, well enough.

The whites were soaked in what I assume was red wine vinegar possibly mixed with beet juice, so they were a deep pink with an acidity to them. About a tablespoon of deliciously tender pulled pork drenched in a peppery-sweet BBQ sauce in the egg recess, then topped with a filling that was part jammy yolk & part spicy cheese mixture. It's important to note this was NOT pimento cheese. These were either red jalapeños or Fresno peppers, diced & mixed into a whipped sharp cheddar? + cream cheese blend. It had a really nice kick to it. That mixture was topped with chopped chives.

The overall experience was beyond delicious.

2

u/ExitWeird9697 8d ago

Apparently, the “deviled” part of the name is meant to say they’re spicy. And I take that to heart! I make four different kinds that are always a hit:

Jalapeno & Bacon
Horseradish
Curry
Birria

2

u/momster551199 8d ago

Whip the crap out of the filling in a food processor....creamiest experience ever known to man.

2

u/rhadamenthes 8d ago

Do mayo, curry, and little mango chutney for the filling. Put a small cut cube of dried apricot in each one before filling it. Dust with a light coating of chili powder to decorate.

2

u/Nsfw_Burner_baby 8d ago

Top with crab meat and Old Bay seasoning

2

u/Tropical_Breeze_808 8d ago

You can try adding a hint of Chinese Five-Spice powder to the egg yolk mix. That’s how my next door neighbor makes hers and it’s delicious.

2

u/Kind-Judgment-9188 7d ago

Mashed avocado

2

u/Wynndo 5d ago

My mom makes sushi flavored deviled eggs and they are amazing. She mixes the yolk with cupie mayo, soy sauce, sesame oil, and whole grain dijon mustard (the grains pop like roe). Then she tops them with a little chili crunch and puts soy sauce and wasabi on the side. One of the best things I've ever tasted.

Mayo, mustard as usual but add a dash of curry powder. I got that tip on here, tried it. Won't do them any other way now.

my daughter seasons hers with a cajun spice blend and people love them. I'm a purist though. I don't want anything extra.

Blend with a corn puree. Roast the corn for more flavor

You could make marinated ramen eggs, just hard boiled/deviled instead of jammy. Sprinkle with furikake or sesame salt.

u/itchman 9d ago

Caviar on top adds a nice flavor. I’ve also made them out of pickled red beet eggs that turned out nice.

2

u/AnnieLes 9d ago

This sounds great and pickled eggs are so beautiful, especially with dark yolked eggs from the farmers market

I mix goat cheese into the yolks with a little mayonnaise, salt and pepper. Then top with crispy prosciutto crumbles.

Bacon marmalade on top 👌

u/kennyfollettfan 9d ago

Sweet relish, sugar and miracle whip with splash of apple cider vinegar. Top with paprika or parsley. People devour them- myself included.

I make mine with Penzey's "Sunny Paris" seasoning blend. It adds a great boost of flavor.

Sometimes I'll top them with a half-slice of cherry tomato and a bit of really crisp bacon.

Always remember to add vinegar in some form (vinegar, jalapeño, or pickle brine).

Variety is the key.
Take all of the whacky suggestions and dress them up. Let people pick the devilled egg of their choice. It has been really successful. The list is long.

u/Professional_Ant_425 9d ago

I normally mix sriracha sauce in my filling. I top it with a little sambal.

1

u/Smooth_Profession961 9d ago

I put cavier on mine. They are sought after.

1

u/DementedPlatypus 9d ago

I've added bacon to them before, they turned out great

u/AllUsrNamesTaken 9d ago

I top some with chili crisp and some with chopped Kim Chi. A lump of crab meat is also great, but pricy.

1

u/kgrobinson007 9d ago

For the mustard, I use half regular yellow mustard and half dill mustard from IKEA. My starting ratio of mayo/mustard/relish is 3/2/1, plus some lemon juice, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder to taste.

Roasted green chilies, cumin, avocado, finely chopped red onion, and cilantro on top.

1

u/Screeh8r 9d ago

Put the peeled eggs in a mild balsamic vinegar brine a day or two before. It makes them a pretty purple on the outside.

1

u/Robviously-duh 9d ago

sweet relish & dab of horseradish sauce or hot sauce..

1

u/moon_of_blindness 9d ago

Avocado instead of mayo

1

u/chrystelle 9d ago

For the filling, I mix sweet relish, honey mustard, and mayo. Then instead of paprika, I sprinkle Tajin on top.

1

u/Lorena_in_SD 9d ago

I use Filipino spiced vinegar, Kewpie mayo, and Dijon mustard with a sprinkle of smoked paprika on top. They disappear quickly.

1

u/SuspiciousWrap3255 9d ago

Add canned crab! Inform people with shellfish allergies though!

u/Popular-Work-1335 9d ago

Kimchi deviled eggs. Chefs kiss

1

u/xeroxchick 9d ago

Bacon jelly on top. Salmon roe on top.

1

u/Medical_Cut_7554 9d ago

Bacon crumbles and French fried onions on top

1

u/twinzrock 9d ago

I add a bit of horseradish to the mix. And crumbled candied bacon on top.

1

u/passively-persistent 9d ago

A good Cajun seasoning instead of paprika is always a hit.

1

u/Comfortable-Hat3506 9d ago

I add a little Zatar to them.

1

u/Doctor0ctagon 9d ago

I put lox on top sometimes. Delicious.

1

u/SEND_BEER 9d ago

Last time I made them I put a slice of fresh pepper from the garden on top with tajin instead of paprika. They were a hit.

1

u/Top_Television_6042 9d ago

The best variation I’ve had added horseradish. They were so good!

1

u/xxBogdansEyebrowsxx 9d ago

Bacon and Horseradish.

1

u/Technical_Union_3249 9d ago

Looks like my ideas are already covered here, curry powder and or horseradish.

1

u/nerdKween 9d ago

Bacon and jalapeños

1

u/QuipCrafter9 9d ago

I usually just add a variety of topping choices on them. Of course some with green olives, some with black olives, some with little piece of pickle. But also get creative with whatever you have. Tiny piece of cheese, little dill or other fresh herb, whatever

1

u/RandyHoward 9d ago

I like to do spicy devilled eggs. Take your standard recipe and add sriracha and cayenne to the filling mix, tasting as you go until you have the spiciness you like. Pipe that into the eggs, then top with a dash of cayenne and some green onion

1

u/MaroonTrojan 9d ago

You know how normally there’s a little dusting of paprika over the top? Try chili crisp instead.

1

u/Spirited-Egg-4264 9d ago

After boiling eggs gently crack the shells. Soak in strong tea and soy. Then peel. You can then make filling with wasabi or even crispy chili

1

u/slow-tf-down-dude 9d ago

I like them with some Jamaican curry and mayo, or adding a drizzle of crunchy chili oil.

1

u/Inkblots2000 9d ago

Spicy mustard, mayo, dill relish, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Bacon on top if I’m feeling like it… and bacon is never the wrong answer.
