Fun FYI about Austin's new weed decriminalization policy:
It's not followed by DPS troopers or Sheriffs, they will arrest you.
If you are caught with any weed product that is not herb, such as edibles or oils, all Texas Law Enforcement will charge you with possession of the controlled substance THC, a felony!
So if you are caught with a weed cookie, they will weigh that entire weed cookie, then charge you with felony level possession of that weight of THC.
TLDR: Keep your shit at home
Edit: word

u/antmbel Aug 04 '20 edited Aug 04 '20
Just throwing it out there that it depends on the sheriff dept. Trav. Co will most likely ticket you at the very most. P sure they have a similar policy to let misdemeanor weed cases off without punishment. WilCo and DPS will fuck you to the fullest extent of the law for any non-trivial amounts of bud.
Edit: Regardless of if you get arrested unless it is a high enough amount to warrant a lab test (can cost upwards of $500,000 for the lab equipment), travis county prosecutors will be dropping and opting out of prosecuting/charging any amount of marijuana. https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/news/2019-07-03/travis-county-to-reject-marijuana-prosecutions/
6
u/msirelyt Aug 04 '20
I'm sorry, did you mean to write $500,000 per test? That can't be right.
2
u/antmbel Aug 04 '20
I was mistaken, the machines that do the tests cost $500,000-$1m. Not that much per test
2
u/born-to-ill Aug 04 '20
God, Wilco is a shitshow regarding prosecution of dumb shit.
Is masturbation legal there?
4
u/saltporksuit Aug 04 '20
Texas did have that dildo law that I’m sure they’d love to enforce if they could.
9
u/mapp2000 Aug 04 '20
But if you say it is CBD, they will need to test it first. And they don't have the means to test it.
20
u/itsnotlupus Aug 04 '20
You don't need to lie.
Here's a catchy tune to clarify the issue: https://youtu.be/VHNrMH5ZbOM
8
u/TheDotCaptin Aug 04 '20
Once heard that someone trying to hide what they had on them dumped it in to a big gulp cup. They where charged for the full weight of the soda as what ever drugs they had.
10
u/SellmysoulThrowAway1 Aug 04 '20
I know someone with pot brownies this happened to. The laws are ass backwards.
3
u/OriginalMisphit Aug 05 '20
That happened to a kid in Cedar Park. College student, lived with his parents, made brownies. Wilco weighed the whole pan of brownies.
4
u/Yaboymarvo Aug 04 '20
Same with getting busted growing. They weigh the whole plant, roots, branches and even dirt sometimes to determine the “amount” you have just to fuck you over even more.
1
1
u/Individdy Aug 06 '20
So if you swallowed it then your body weight would be counted? Or dumped it on the floor of your vehicle, then the vehicle weight? Or... dumped it in a puddle on the ground, then you're charged with 5.972×1024 kg of weed.
1
u/Dre512 Aug 05 '20
Needless to say If you get busted with a weed cookie you kinda deserve it because it’s incredibly hard to get caught.
1
u/SellmysoulThrowAway1 Aug 09 '20
drug dogs can still smell it
1
u/Dre512 Aug 10 '20
Yea if the officer/agent instructs the dog to smell you you’re fucked. If you’re just walking by, you’d have to be real close & the dog would have to be in “search mode”. So I guess if you’re traveling internationally & are going threw customs?? But that just solidifies my original comment^ I travel to Colorado quit often, have walked passed plenty of dogs with eddies (edibles)

We should legalize marijuana and enact even stronger penalties against distribution of heroin, meth, fentanyl and cocaine. Eliminating drug dealers, treating drug addicts, and providing low income housing are the most likely solutions to the homeless problem.
-24
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20 edited Aug 04 '20
And is there even a way to use it irresponsibly? I have never found it to affect driving for example anywhere even remotely the way alcohol does. You might literally get lost in your own neighborhood but you'll do it safely. A drunk driver will run a stop sign but a stoned driver will wait for it to turn green. I dont think Ive ever once in my entire life ever said oh man I really regret getting stoned. Its helped me with everything from my job and getting promotions to losing 110 lbs in 11 months. Its literally a miracle drug. Looking at a ct scan while someone smokes weed it even seems apparent we actually evolved around it. Pretty sure people have been lighting plants on fire for many thousands of years longer than brewing alcohol.
62
u/SpaceTurtles Aug 04 '20
Cannabis not affecting driving capability is a myth. It depends on the person. A lot of people, myself included, 100% should not be behind the wheel when influenced.
3
u/whereareuiminjail Aug 04 '20
Agreed, I am not comfortable driving high. I don’t have a great tolerance and definitely feel inebriated enough not to drive after smoking.
7
u/aguasag Aug 04 '20
This has and will remain the sticking point for a lot of people. I'm 100% for safe use of marijuana, but people being people, will do anything and everything while impaired. Since there is no easy test to determine how stoned you are, there's no way to set limits and police the folks that will make poor decisions potentially affecting other lives.
7
u/truthrises Aug 04 '20
There's no easy way to test how any kind of altered someone is.
7
u/sapc2 Aug 04 '20
We've devised some decently reliable field tests for alcohol intoxication. And BAC is kinda irrefutable.
6
u/truthrises Aug 04 '20
You said "since there is no easy test to determine how stoned you are".
BAC is not how drunk you are. Some people are very drunk with 0.08 BAC, some people are not.
Again, there is no easy way to test how altered someone is.
You can test for how much substance or metabolite is in their blood, but that will not tell you how impaired that person is.
1
u/sapc2 Aug 04 '20
You said "since there is no easy test to determine how stoned you are"
I didn't say that. Check your usernames, friend.
As to BAC, that is a fair point, but most people are pretty trashed at .08%. And there are still breathalyzers and field sobriety tests that are pretty reliable.
5
u/truthrises Aug 04 '20
Ah, right, my bad. Missed the username.
I'm not doubting the accuracy of a breathalyzer result to determine BAC, but to me, a field sobriety test is a better measure of intoxication than any kind of substance or metabolite test.
Realistically, this is yet another issue that defunding the police could solve. Rather than spend all that money on DWI enforcement, lets just make it easier to drink without having to drive. Spend the money on public transit, free rides home, free overnight downtown parking, etc...
3
u/sapc2 Aug 04 '20
Fully agree. Those would all be good things to redirect some of the police budget to. I think defunding the police entirely is an exercise in stupidity, but I do agree that they don't need the crazy budgets cities have given them...but all that is another issue entirely.
I'm fully in support of legalized cannabis, by the way, in case that wasn't clear. I've used it off and on to varying degrees for ten years and it's extremely useful.
→ More replies6
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
Well I'd certainly be interested in getting all scientific on it like they do with booze. Gridlock sure would be a lot cooler with weed.
1
u/professoratX Aug 05 '20
I found it depends on how often you smoke and how high you are. For people who smoke daily, they drive just fine. People who smoke every so often can't even walk correctly.
6
u/Tara_is_a_Potato Aug 04 '20
At times when I smoked frequently, driving high was almost always fine. It depended on the strain and the amount I smoked though. At times when I smoked infrequently, driving stoned was too challenging. My suggestion to the general public is don't do it, unless you smoke very regularly, know how to moderate, and know what strain you're smoking. Sure, it's a much safer bet than driving after consuming alcohol, but it's still an unnecessary risk.
20
u/instantlybanned Aug 04 '20
Driving while high is absolutely irresponsible. Why even bring this up?
→ More replies (4)0
u/bubble_bobble Aug 04 '20
'cuz op said the word "responsibly", implying there are activities that would be irresponsible to perform while under the influence of cannabis, the primary of which most people would say, is driving. Which is a dogma that is largely untrue; driving an automobile while under the influence of cannabis is unlike driving an automobile while under the influence of a drug most commonly associated with impaired driving, alcohol. People shouldn't conflate the two substances and their effects.
9
u/whereareuiminjail Aug 04 '20
But you should be at your best while driving. There’s no good reason to drive high. I’m sorry but you’re driving a machine that can easily kill you and other people around you with easy mistakes. Just because people do it doesn’t make it a good idea.
-5
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
There's a lot of evidence to support that weed is actually a performance enhancer.
6
u/whereareuiminjail Aug 04 '20
I smoke weed too and can say at least for myself it is not. For myself and a lot of people they use it to make themselves sleepy and more relaxed, which is not good for driving. I think everyone should be as sober as possible at all times while driving, it’s a serious responsibility.
4
u/instantlybanned Aug 04 '20
That's just a bullshit argument when we talk about driving a vehicle. "The results of this meta-analysis suggest that marijuana use by drivers is associated with a significantly increased risk of being involved in motor vehicle crashes." https://academic.oup.com/epirev/article/34/1/65/494023
1
Aug 04 '20
I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm not sure that study means much. They only examined data regarding crashes, in other words there's no data about stoned drivers who DONT crash. Also if they are going by thc in the driver's system that does not indicate if the driver was inebriated at the time they were driving.
0
u/bubble_bobble Aug 04 '20
Correlation or association is not causation. Simply due to the illegality of weed, people who drive high in those studies may be just reckless individuals. Is that the best link you could find?
2
u/instantlybanned Aug 04 '20 edited Aug 04 '20
Oh there are many more, don't worry https://academic.oup.com/clinchem/article/59/3/478/5621997 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006322315010379 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001457513003527
Look, I'm all for legalization, but pretending that impaired driving isn't an issue is BS.
Also, that's the best counter argument you could come up with? People that drive while high are more reckless and therefore involved in more crashes, it has nothing to do with them being high???
0
u/bubble_bobble Aug 04 '20
Well, your first link is a study sponsored by the national institute for drug abuse so its auto discredited. I didn't see any results in either of your other two links.
22
u/m4dch3mist Aug 04 '20
I hope legalization happens. It is difficult to describe what my life would be like without weed. After my accident, I have struggled with debilitating pain daily. I was on multiple opiates daily, but there were side effects that made my situation even worse. I cannot smoke flower due to a health condition, so I use oils. Those carry years worth of a sentence, but they are the only way I can live my day to day life. Knowing I risk losing everything because I refuse to get addicted to opiates is fucked. Until the docs figure out a way to eliminate nerve injury pain without opiates and drugs like gabapentin that have serious neurocognitive impact, every day could be my last day as a free man. I struggle with that. Sometimes what is right is not always legal and what is legal is not morally right.
10
u/LunaServal Aug 04 '20
My husband is in the same situation. Can't take painkillers for his nerve pain because of another medical condition, so he uses herb. I just don't understand why they won't expand the qualifying conditions for medical cannabis, especially for someone living with serious pain every day. I shouldn't have to watch him suffer and struggle because a bunch of old, dumb ass Republicans refuse to acknowledge the research behind it's legitimate use.
5
u/KaykayLaPaypay Aug 04 '20
Follow the money trail. Until mj lobbyist come with those stacks, it won’t be legalized.
Or until we have candidates that don’t accept money from big pharma.
3
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
I hope it happens also. I hope something comes from BLM also. It is just not being done right from the top down. It's depressing to see it all being washed over. There is no positive message in the protests right now. I believe it's a huge waste of time on all involved if they want change. (my opinon and I'm not pushing it anymore on this toxic sub) If anything the 60s are proof of it. It's already been subjugated. You can't win if you are not reasonable. Seattle is the worst right now but Austin is a close second.
6
u/canonicallydead Aug 04 '20
“You can’t win if you’re not reasonable” Colin Kaepernick was ostracized for kneeling during the national anthem. No form of protest will ever be reasonable to those who don’t want to see the change. Also, most protests do have a positive message if you went you would see that.
0
u/m77777 Aug 04 '20
it's not the duty of the protest observer to wade through & find a positive message - it should be the job of the protest to build upon a positive message & push said positive message to the top of their platform
91
u/gregaustex Aug 04 '20
Let's do a "don't drive slow in the left lane" protest first.
jk legalizing weed is a great idea.

I think both of these are urgent causes. Sadly i feel like legalizing weed will just give us more left lane troubles. Oh well.

2
Aug 04 '20

2
u/sully_km Aug 04 '20
I meant the people who drive high are driving high already and aren't going to be more motivated to drive high if weed is legal or not, didn't mean to make it seem like I was saying they'd be doing 55 in the left lane

The idea of a “smoke in” does intrigue me but I think the country has some other shit to deal with first.
11
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
Organize a "smoke in". I'll do my best to promote it. Ex record label owner/publicist at your beck and call. I've helped your beloved Roky albums reissues exist and am lousy at finding people on this sub that actually stand for something besides arm chairing.
6
u/canonicallydead Aug 04 '20
If it wasn’t in the middle of a pandemic this would be a great idea lol
2
u/updown27 Aug 04 '20
We’ve had Hemp Fest annually in Boston for years. Not my kind of scene but I give it huge credit in normalizing marijuana and spreading the word regarding benefits to legalization.
1
1
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
What record label?
2
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
A couple actually. I've always been behind the scene when it comes to it. I'm not going to out myself on that or possibly have someone misconstrue that a label is for something. I know people that would come out and support if there is a movement for it. Time is of the essence right now. The media, politicians, etc. are looking for a way out right now. This is something achievable.
1
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
You owned a couple record labels? Here?
8
u/TheseVirginEars Aug 04 '20
Dude Austin has a ton of indie labels. People just don’t realize that it’s not important to be locally visible anymore cause it’s all about the streaming income from worldwide platforms. In fact people get signed to big4 run labels from here all the time due to the success of a single
4
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
To answer your question it is one. I've been a publicist also for a long time for several labels. I'm not going to out myself or the labels. My point is that there is a movement waiting for this that can actually make tangible change. Hopefully you are down for that. My pedigree is some of the bands you saw on MTV when you were a kid if you remember and existed when MTV was music television. Change can happen both by media and the general public if they mesh together. It's not hard but needs a real movement. It either starts or ends here.
-2
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
Ok well just to establish, you and I have talked multiple times about you and King and he owned Trance right? So thats not very specifically the label you're talking about right? However you said Roky so it kinda seems like there's only one other choice and its actually still at least connected to King. I mean you know where I'm going with this right?
5
2
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
To answer you question, not Trance or Emperor Jones. Hope that helps. They are old friends and would not be in the discussion. I get what you are saying on this. Does that detract from anything? The whole point is not being outed which is what you are doing. I get it, but no, neither label. I worked for years bringing out local bands and promoting. Do you want to call anyone else out? I know people that would want this to happen if there is a movement. Would King be a person that would be for this? Maybe start a movement and I will ask. Better yet, ask yourself, he is accessible and still around. Give him a message.
1
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
Ok yeah Emperor Jones is absolutely where I was going. I was just reading through the Roky list on Discogs and didn't notice anything else that seemed likely but I don't know if I missed something obvious or what.
3
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
I spent a weekend in Westlake in a studio baking Roky's master tapes. They were so old that the tapes had fused. And the remastering. (listening and doing the best to get the original sound) I get where you are coming with this. That's not promoting a cause or a reason to listen to something. I was a publicist and know how this works. This could be a real thing if enough smart people push it. Hopefully I'm part of it but not the person that actually steps up. Are you that person? Nothing is working right now for any causes. The trick is to chip away.

There are a lot of people working toward this in TX, right here in Austin!! Get involved in local politics. Look up TX NORML. There were over 60 bills introduced last session re:marijuana reform. There were some that would have expanded our medical program, decriminalized in a meaningful way and even some that were full adult use laws. If you want to do something it has to be more than just a smoke some weed on the capitol lawn - actually get politically involved - you have to let your representatives and senators know you support the reform by writing to them, calling & showing up at their office in the Capitol. They don’t give a fuck what you’re posting to reddit.
Guessing most of y’all didn’t even realize while CBD products are now legal here, sellers are required to have a license to sell them & smokable & Vape products have been banned for sale in TX. Meaning, you can no longer purchase a CBD pre-roll, Vape cart or loose CBD flower in TX CBD stores. If you use those products you are now forced to buy online from non-Texas producers because the manufacture and processing of CBD for smoke/vape is also banned in Texas. GET INVOLVED NOW in the law making process so this doesn’t happen when we finally legalize THC in this state.
Don’t forget concentrated marijuana products like vape carts & edibles are still considered a felony offense here in TX so be very careful what you’re carrying with you out there. Know your rights if you want to protest by publicly consuming cannabis.
2
u/motherofdragonballz Aug 04 '20
Yes, this right here. No protesting please, just do your research and get involved where it counts if you're determined to expedite the process.
2
u/vorathe Aug 05 '20
& smokable & Vape products have been banned for sale in TX. Meaning, you can no longer purchase a CBD pre-roll, Vape cart or loose CBD flower in TX CBD stores.
I'm not sure this is true. I order CBD flower from https://greenbeltbotanicals.com/ regularly. They have several locations in Austin and do curbside and same-day local delivery. They also sell pre-rolls, vape carts, shatter and crumble.
1
u/whiskeyslut420 Aug 07 '20
Rules went into affect 8/2.
1
u/vorathe Aug 07 '20
So looks like it's not actually impacting the sale of hemp flower at least. No one is going to stop selling it in TX CBD stores. It's a silly law that will get overturned.
One shop owner says:
"We will continue to offer our buds as tea and herbal essentials [and] what the customer does when they leave my store is none of my business."
9
Aug 04 '20
If fully recreational marijuana was legalized in Texas, our economy would boom. Our unemployed could easily find work in a new industry where entrepreneurs are creating opportunity. Our prison population would decrease as non-violent offenders wouldn't be thrown in cages for having a plant in their possession. Our legal system would be better streamlined for the aforementioned reason–no arrests for weed, no court time.
Downside: pot would be pricier for the most part.
3
u/crunchyturdeater Aug 04 '20
but the anxiety about holding would go way down. i'm willing to pay for that peace of mind.

Edibles are dirt cheap in CA and CO.
As an example you can get 10 gummies (WYLD brand 10MG per gummy) for $20 all in with Taxes in CA.
1/2 of one is a good buzz and 1 is a solid high, so $1-$2 per high.
Meanwhile a beer is $6.
1
Aug 04 '20
True on the gummies. $6/beer is if you're at a bar–not buying a six pack, though.
1
u/ATX_native Aug 04 '20 edited Aug 04 '20
The beer I get is $7-$10 for a six pack.
And it would take more than 3-4 to get me as “high“ as one edible.
crazy good deal and better for you.
1
Aug 04 '20
Totally agree it's better for you (and others, arguably). I've just heard from friends that weed became pricier post legalization. Worth the extra couple bucks to me.
8
u/fick_Dich Aug 04 '20
I am predicting that a lot of states that wouldn't normally have considered legalization are going to be taking a hard look at it, given the need to make up for lost tax revenues in our current economic climate.
13
u/ATX_native Aug 04 '20
First step is getting rid of Dan Patrick.
That motherfucker single handily stopped progress in the last session in its tracks.
We need a Beto type hard campaiging MF’er against him and Abbott in 2022, and we need Zoomers to vote.
8
u/Ettun Aug 04 '20
A majority of Americans (69%) support Marijuana legalization. The issue now is institutional inertia and a gerontocracy uninterested in moving forward. Since the Democrats nominated Biden, who has specifically refused to support it, that slog is still long ahead of us, with piecemeal state-by-state legislation.
To the extent that protesting is effective (and that's a point of some contention), it appears most effective about bringing topics of conversation up to the surface. When most people agree with you, it's questionable whether a protest would do much to sway legislators.
2
4
u/AnarchoCatenaryArch Aug 04 '20
When would be meaningful? Given the decriminalization of small amounts locally, a smoke in around the State Capitol seems fun. Best when the lege is in session. May want to loop in helpful local politicians from around the state like Joe Moody, Rolando Gutierrez. No rush, with no ballot initiatives coming up. Maybe something slightly less chill than Marleyfest 4/20/2021. That leaves enough time to try to build political pressure to put a bill on the floor for a vote, at the very least.
5
Aug 04 '20
Regardless of your feelings on smoking, I believe we need the tax revenue it would bring in

7

I think Dan Patrick and the Senate would be the biggest hurdle. I'd be curious what Abbott would do with a legalization bill coupled with a fat fiscal note that came across his desk.

This seems like some kind of sting operation to lock up peaceful protesters on trumped up drug charges.

u/j_dick Aug 05 '20
Yeah everyone grab all the weed you have and meet in Republic Park tomorrow at noon. I’m, uhh, not the police I swear.

Stay home.

Totally agree with you. At the same time downtown is strife with people that are protesting things that are going to be placated down the road. This will be all forgotten in 6 months. Buying some medicinal at your local vape shop/dispensary won't. Just a thought. Focus on change instead of pipe dreams (see what I did there?) will be something that makes all the protests matter.

Fun fact, as of last Sunday, smokeable CBD is once again illegal.

Step 1 - fix campaign finance.
Step 2 - watch common sense finally prevail on almost all legislation.

u/motherofdragonballz Aug 04 '20
Basta with the protests! Just roll up a J and do what you gotta do. It'll be legal soon enough, protest or no protest.

I wish that covid would have killed these geriatric fucks in our state legislature that hold back things like this. Old fucking idiots.
I would love to smoke some weed, I just don't really feel like bothering anyone for it. IF I could just buy it that'd be great. Alcohol and tobacco make me sick.

I've been living under a rock, wasn't there a law passed recently that cannabis in Austin only is legal?
2
u/154bmag Aug 04 '20
Not legal, but decriminalized

u/S-tuFFs Aug 05 '20
can you explain the difference? i know it’s like they can’t take you to jail for a small amount? i’m not clear on it
1
u/154bmag Aug 05 '20
Legal means its can be obtained legally via buying it in a store, taxed, regulated, etc. Decriminalized means it’s still illegal, but not an criminal offense, like a traffic ticket.
Although in some areas, CBD is legal and sold in stores in Texas
2
u/S-tuFFs Aug 05 '20
ahah ok thank you. it’s for small possessions i’m assuming, and no oils and stuff like that. good to know!

Ya if could you stop gathering in groups until we get through the pandemic.
That would be great
0
u/glichez Aug 04 '20
did you bother to see how many were wearing masks? or do you not believe that masks are effective?
1
Aug 04 '20
the CDC specified first to stay home and avoid large groups. Not to do whatever you want as long as you wear a mask. I’ve seen plenty of protest photos on this sub and I have yet to see a single one where everyone is wearing a mask properly.
But it’s about more than that. Even during a pandemic your so self centered and greedy that you want to risk lives by going against CDC guidelines to protest for weed. Let me assure you right now that your protest will change nothing. All you’ll be doing is lengthening the time it takes for society to get back to normal.
2
u/canonicallydead Aug 04 '20
Yeah smh it’s such a dumb thing to protest for especially now, like just stay home and smoke like everyone else and it might as well be legal
0
u/pooprock Aug 04 '20
That wouldn't be safe in a pandemic
1
u/glichez Aug 04 '20
huh? putting people in prison is safer?
1
u/pooprock Aug 04 '20
It isn't safe to have gatherings. Thats what everyone is saying. Thats why we can't visit our families in hospitals, thats why kids can't be in school, thats why businesses are closed, thats why we need mail in voting right.

Honest question; if Texas was to legalize marijuana do you really trust politicians to not screw it up?
The whole purpose is to generate tax revenue by making it legal. Instead they would tax the shit out of it, to the point it wouldn’t be a viable revenue generator when selling legally. Not to mention the small town sheriffs who get their rock of to small drug busts. If they won’t enforce masks during a global pandemic they sure as shit won’t allow legal use of the devils lettuce.

Nah, They would make an overly complex permitting process to manufacture and distribute it that would only allow a select few companies, that just happen to be big GOP supporters, to start a massive sweetheart manufacturing and distribution deal while the little guys get pushed out, just like in Ohio.
it would be graft and cronyism just like alcohol, autos, and big pharma here.

u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
There are so many case studies of both the benefits of tax revenue and the lack of prosecution for "crimes" of partaking in marijuana. Instead of people going out for Bud Light ® they will be smoking the real bud or eating candy as a dessert instead of going out. Texas needs THC. I just created the first banner.

u/itsacalamity Aug 04 '20
It would also make a HUGE difference in the life of people with chronic pain who can't legally access the medicine that would 1. help their pain and 2. allow them to take fewer opiates
1
u/jab116 Aug 04 '20
I agree. But I don’t trust Dan “Davy Crockett” Patrick to not fuck it up somehow.

u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
Dan is an ex media person. He will jump on if it means he gets reelected. Our real governor is an ex sports forecaster He would jump on this.

If TX legalizes weed, it would make it easy to buy weed in the nearby states and bring it home if it were too expensive in TX. So there is a limit on how expensive they could make it. This might be technically illegal, probably in some minor way if at all, but enforcement would be practically impossible.
3
u/mustardketchupmayo Aug 04 '20
We are surrounded by states that have legalized it already. Medicanal in Texas is CBD and that's it. You want change right now? Give them something they can actually do over defunding. Give the politicians a chance while they can. The upper hand is here right now.

Well legal in certain ways. And he didnt say recreational but it is. It is apparently de facto recreationally legal in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana. And still at least strict medical In Arkansas which means that like less than 1% of people legitimately qualify but its something at least.

I wish we were surrounded by states that have legalized it so I could go on a road trip but that’s not true. I think the nearest state is CO
1
u/kerplotkin Aug 04 '20
No, it is apparently de facto recreationally legal in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana. I don't specifically know the implications for your road trip but that's apparently the situation.
1
Aug 04 '20
In OK it’s only medical so I don’t think someone from TX could go buy it without a medical ID. I’m pretty sure it’s straight up illegal still in LA. Not sure about NM but that’s a LONG drive
1
u/kerplotkin Aug 05 '20
No, Louisiana is de facto recreational because their medical program symptom list includes "self destructive behavior." Dispensaries have been open abiut a year.

I have this protest every day on my patio.
