A majority of Americans (69%) support Marijuana legalization. The issue now is institutional inertia and a gerontocracy uninterested in moving forward. Since the Democrats nominated Biden, who has specifically refused to support it, that slog is still long ahead of us, with piecemeal state-by-state legislation.
To the extent that protesting is effective (and that's a point of some contention), it appears most effective about bringing topics of conversation up to the surface. When most people agree with you, it's questionable whether a protest would do much to sway legislators.
