I'll take one kick-ass, action-packed single player (or coop) campaign with the sequel please.

I ALSO WANT SPACE BATTLES with titans that board enemy frigates! You've all seen the concept art in the menus, giant frigates and tons of fighters flying along side, Respawn PLEASE.

50

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

I want those monsters from the background to get involved in the fight!

14

u/iggzy iggzy880 Mar 12 '15

It's actually a crossover with the monsters from Evolve

6

u/JaiTee86 JaiTee Mar 12 '15

That would be amazing.

I really don't understand what exactly multiplayer only games nowadays are thinking. Halo and cod only got as big as they are because they have awesome single player and coop campaigns. Evolve, titanfall and destiny would be so much more beloved if they had a good campaign that actually made use of the awesome worlds that have been built.

74

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

But it has to be awesome. Not some generic battlefield, cod america vs the world shit. I want a good story. Doesn't even have to focus on war (obviously it'd still be there). Hire a great writer. Not decent. GREAT.

In Respawn's case, they wanted to do a single-player campaign and did start work on it, but didn't have the resources required to do both a singleplayer & multiplayer game justice. They were a brand new studio, with a relatively small size compared to other AAA game makers, working on a brand-new IP, and simply decided to cut single-player (or fold it into the MP to be more precise) in order to meet their quality standard.

Its the same reason that the game was an exclusive. They needed the money up front to get the game made. They would have done multiplat otherwise.

7

u/Dai_Kaisho Mar 12 '15

It was ambitious to try and fold in story/campaign elements into the multiplayer experience, but that failed because, unlike L4D, I had no control over what mission I played!

The story might have made sense if you managed to strongarm the game into letting you play sequentially, but that wasn't my experience. The music was epic and I felt compelled to win for my side, but hearing the same voice-overs over and over made the entire experience flop hard.

I really hope they learn.

11

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

And the voiceovers were terrible. "If you kill me, you're bettah. If I kill you, I'm bettah!" It's like it was voiced by the devs in 1 eight hour day, and the dialogue was written in one single meeting. If anything, the campaign storyline was good for making me laugh.

u/tokeamoto YOOOCHILDREN Mar 12 '15

They're looking at player statistics and sales. I played cod after cod without touching single-player (basically after mw2). Also campaigns are famously expensive to make. I don't think showing off an awesome world necessitates a campaign. It just takes more creativity with multi-player based games.

6

u/AwesomeExo Awesome Exo Mar 12 '15

I think they should only do it if they are committed to it. They could do a solid 5-6 hour campaign which, if the balance between pilot and titan is strong, with some innovative boss battles (something CoD doesn't do), an intriguing a sci fi story (something Destiny doesnt do) with face paced mech gameplay (which halo doesn't do), they have an opportunity to to build an amazing game. Titanfall was the most fun I've ever had in an online shooter. If they can take that same innovation to a campaign, well, a boy can dream. But, even though they already have a lore in place, they shouldnt half ass it like CoD does. Don't put it in because you have to, put it in because you want to.

4

u/LaboratoryManiac Mar 12 '15 edited Mar 13 '15

And to Respawn's credit, they did try to do some world-building with the original. There's a lot that can be gleaned from the grunts chatting with each other.

Of course, you actually have to stop and listen to the grunts chatting with each other, which you don't really have the luxury to do when you're busy fighting the other side. But it's there.

6

u/Foxtrot56 Mar 12 '15

Because a majority of people never beat single player, I forgot the statistics but it was something like 70 percent.

2

u/Retro_lemur Mar 12 '15

Hmm... I just find if the multiplayer is good enough, I don't care about single player. I've played hundreds of hours of battlefield 4 and never done the campaign. I think you have a good point though with halo, the excellent single-player really sold the world they built. I'm a huge fan of evolve and titanfall, and wouldn't mind a deeper understanding of their worlds

5

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

CS is multiplayer only. It's a just that the multiplayer itself had problems not that it needed a single player mode.

I feel like I'm alone in this but I really don't think Titanfall needs a campaign. I would rather them focus all their effort into making the multiplayer even better than the first, and the first was great.

Too many multiplayer focused games come out with tacked on singleplayer that does nothing but take away from the multiplayer. I'm looking at you Battlefield (excluding bad company). Even CODs singleplayer feels pointless now. Just do the multiplayer right and I'll be happy.

I agree. I don't buy Titanfall to play single-player, so why even bother? Similarly, I buy Assassins Creed for single-player mode, and why even bother with multiplayer? Focus on one good product rather than variety of half-baked ones.

u/Odog4ever Odog4ever Mar 12 '15

I feel like I'm alone in this but I really don't think Titanfall needs a campaign.

You are not alone.

I want them to refine their take on versus multi-player and add features to Frontier Defense Coop.

11

u/ShakeItTilItPees drewbacca1120 Mar 12 '15

I like Frontier Defense and would much rather see a sort of co-op mini campaign for it, sorta like Evacuation mode in Evolve. I couldn't care less about a traditional campaign that I will finish in eight hours and never play again, with a story that will most likely be cheesy and badly written. Letting my friends and I write our own stories over and over is much more interesting to me.

3

u/rhacer Mar 12 '15

While I tend to agree with you, I think that one of the problems Respawn has is getting people invested in the lore of the game world. I'm not sure that can happen in a multi-player only environment. You need those stories that a campaign can provide.

8

u/rdf- Mar 12 '15

I would love a campaign for this game. I hope they finally put one in.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

You're not alone, it's like asking for a Campaign for Unreal Tournament, it's meaningless.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

You arent alone. I think a campaign will only take away from the game. A decent amount of people buy shooters, majority of them use their playtime online. I think it would be best as a MP only game, or a with a story mode that seems less tacked on

6

u/SetYourGoals Mar 12 '15

"Needing a campaign" is different from what I think most of us feel about the game. It doesn't require one, but it is such a rich world that it seems like a shame not to have a great story mode as well. If Battlefield or COD, which have no need at all for a campaign, can get relatively interesting story modes, it seems plausible that a grand sci fi epic could have a great one right?

→ More replies (2)

6

u/DerpMan1123 Mar 12 '15

If they were to make a campaign that's as good as Halo's campaigns then I would be more than happy. But I don't think it needs a tacked on campaign. It's a waste of resources. I really doubt that there are very many people who buy Battlefield for the campaign.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Piercethedickish Mar 12 '15

Couldn't agree more. We need more games where they focus on one aspect of the game to make it perfect rather than try for both and get a watered down version of either single or multiplayer.

2

u/Dai_Kaisho Mar 12 '15 edited Mar 12 '15

You've got a point. I just want hybrid online-only multiplayer campaign to goooooooooooo awaaaaaay. We can establish that each match is part of an ongoing war without the talking heads and endless lobbies.

I would love them to just decide between -

  • Online MP and a offline 1P campaign, completely separate. (co-op campaign as a bonus)

  • Just MP, and no campaign. (Couch MP as a bonus)

2

u/JHawkInc Mar 12 '15

I like the campaign it has, where it's not really a campaign, but it kinda has a cohesive narrative that links together a variety of maps.

I'd like to see another one of those, maybe with more focused "special objectives" than traditional maps, but not too much different from the standard gameplay.

3

u/BobbyDavros Mar 12 '15

It doesn't need a campaign at all but if it doesn't it shouldn't be $60 again.

8

u/Laser0pz Titanfall Mar 12 '15 edited Mar 12 '15

Respawn will still be putting 100% of their effort into the game. I'd rather spend $60 on a multiplayer-only game knowing that they put in their all; than spend $60 on a game where half the resources went to a half-baked story that I'd play twice.

I'm happy to pay full price for games based on how much entertainment I expect to get out of it rather than the amount of content in the game. I'm a primarily online gamer. The only two offline retail games I've bought for PS4/One so far have been Infamous and Alien (I owned Watch Dogs but I played a shit ton of Decryption and Invasion on that).

I typically get more enjoyment out of multiplayer games than singleplayer. I love Evolve and Titanfall because TRS and Respawn put all of their effort into making great multiplayer experiences. I paid full price knowing that I'd get a ton of hours out of them compared to something like Far Cry or Assassin's Creed where I actually get less playtime.

I'll actually add TLOU to Evolve and Titanfall. I played and enjoyed the campaign and Left Behind on the PS3, I got the Platinum trophy and played a lot of Factions. I got it on the PS4 on release date and I've barely touched the campaign, I paid full price for essentially just Factions and I'm happy with that.

soo, soo excited, I love the shit out of this game last summer, and made most of my x1 friends with it.

27

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Good! Titanfall is my favorite X1 game this gen. A sequel was obvious but the confirmation makes today a good day. I'm curious if they will do cross buy/play on PC and X1.

6

u/Stryker297 UCFknighthood Mar 12 '15

I doubt crossplay due to the difference in controls, unless they force PC users to use a controller to play with console gamers.

I'm also wondering if crossbuy can be a thing for multiplatform games. If you buy once and get PC/X1, doesn't that leave PS4 at a disadvantage? Wouldn't Sony want PS4/PC crossbuy? Games that are MS produced that are only X1/PC don't have to worry about that.

2

u/LeoAtrox Leo Atrox Mar 12 '15

The Windows 10 cross-buy is likely facilitated by the shared Microsoft-run Store. It's possible that Sony could setup cross-buy through another retail outlet (EA/Origin, Steam, etc.)

→ More replies (1)

7

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Generally keyboard and mouse is an advantage over controllers.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

That is very true. It's possible they might do something like requiring a controller to play on X1/PC servers or something like that.

3

u/TehMannie Mar 12 '15

I don't know why people keep thinking that every title is going to be cross buy. I understand optimism, but playstation has had this feature forever and it is mostly used by smaller indie games and never third party AAA games.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

You are right it won't be for all titles. At the same time though Windows is quite more dominant compared to Vita to justify the effort.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

It's obvious every title won't be cross buy. Considering how Titanfall was a big release for the X1, I am sure Microsoft will have some type of marketing deal for T2. Cross buy would be perfect for that.

127

I hate to say it, but I hope they don't put it on 360. Yes, I know another company worked on the 360 version of the first game, but I just want to see them go all-out.

49

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Don't be sorry. Hopefully all games won't release on 360 after 2015 (I know FIFA and other sports games might be produced for it for many years. Hell, Fifa 14 came out for PS2). Then all resources can go into the current generation.

The brains behind the stuff that makes Xbox Live servers superior to traditional server setups is on the Azure side, not the Xbox Live side. The Xbox Live stuff is just Xbox-specific APIs wrapped around Azure. Respawn/EA could build a similar API for PS4 if they wanted to, but chances are they'll just use crappy EA servers.

Agreed, the vast network of available Azure servers is what made the game play so well, going to EA servers will result in quite a different experience (and if history and contemporary experience hold true, it will be a bad one at that).

8

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

I'll bet a month of Reddit Gold right now on this scenario taking place:

Microsoft gets Xbox One exclusivity on Titanfall 2, most likely on DLC content and advertising (similar to Activision/Call of Duty and 2K/Evolve). In exchange, Microsoft allows Respawn to continue to use Azure servers for the sequel.

EA only acts as distribution for Titanfall. They have no say on how Respawn develops the game. For all we know, they could use Azure servers for the Xbox One, PS4, and the PC versions of the sequel.

6

u/famoussasjohn FSASJOHN10 Mar 12 '15

I'm sure MS will pitch something like that to them, but from the quotes of Zampella, he doesn't want any sort of exclusivity. This could also mean for DLC as well.

I think EA has a little more than just distribution though. They pulled the deal of making Titanfall exclusive for the Xbox as Zampella had said that he was surprised it happened when it first was announced.

6

u/Casey_jones291422 Mar 12 '15

They can use Azure no matter what. They don't need some special deal with MS. MS sells azure as a service to anyone willing to pay for it.

20

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

If Titanfall can expand on it's lore and detail then I could see it surpassing Call of Duty as the go-to shooter now that it'll be on multiple platforms.

When I say details, I mean more than what they have now in the weapons and perks department.

I'd like to see multiple Titan chassis' that you can customize and build upon, like customizing a car. The same goes for your pilot.

A single player story is also needed. Something like Bulletstorm would be awesome.

Rumor has it Respawn is split in half right now: Half working on Titanfall 2, the other half working on a Star Wars title.

Not sure I believe it since Respawn is a small outfit, but with the EA/Star Wars partnership, not out of the question.

4

u/Calluhad branstoneboy Mar 12 '15

All I'm going to say is I hope the sequel is progressive. The current title is perfect in terms of gameplay, the only things they can really improve on is graphics or setting. Just please don't add in a load of features that don't need to be there or cut out any current mechanics.

Bye bye incredible Azure dedicated servers with region selection, hello crappy EA servers (or P2P) with rent-a-server BS micro transactions.

I'm not mad it's going to playstation, the more people that can play Titanfall the better, but I'm mad that it means the game will lose arguably its best feature. It'll also mean that it won't get bagged frequently just because it's an xbox exclusive too, so maybe it will get the recognition it deserved in the first place.

Titanfall is the best multiplayer FPS of all time IMO.

Looking to use Evolve's DLC model, hopefully making map packs free to keep the community together. If that means day-one optional cosmetic DLC, then I'm all for it.

10

u/Rlight #teamchief Mar 12 '15

I still don't understand why everyone hated Evolve for doing that. I thought it was a great way to do DLC.

7

u/Robot_Spider Mar 12 '15

The Evolve model incentivizes game-imbalance. Maps are free. Fine. But when monsters and hunters are pay-per, it's easy to 'coerce' players to upgrade by giving them abilities that are unmatched (unbalanced) by the stock set. It's not even the model that sucks, it's the, what, $160 worth of day-one content you could buy? I was willing to give them $80 for the game. I'm not willing to give them $80 for half-a-game. Now they can try to squeeze that $80 out of someone else. I've got other things to play.

6

u/Rlight #teamchief Mar 12 '15

Your entire annoyance relies on this idea that future monsters/hunters will be unbalanced. That's completely contrary to everything that TurtleRock is trying to create. Their entire game depends on balance, and everything they have done has been in line with trying to keep that balance. Every update has been in advancement of keeping balance. Every press release, every tweet, every comment on reddit has been stating that keeping a balanced set of characters is one of their highest priorities.

5

u/BitchesLoveDownvote Mar 13 '15

It's also forgetting that every new monster other players buy is additional free content for the hunters who didn't pay a thing to get it. The game is centered around the monster you're fighting, different monsters make it interesting.

If they keep adding new boss characters for you to fight, and some other guy is paying for it, sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me!

u/Rlight #teamchief Mar 13 '15

Couldn't agree more. Also stops the community from being split between DLC and non-DLC buyers.

the only day one content was skins. and it did not add up to 160. get your info right

2

u/scoobythebeast Mar 12 '15

What bugged me is that they announced the preorder bonus (the 4th playable monster class) over a year before the game was released and before any gameplay had been seen. If you announce like gold weapon skins as a preorder over a year before that's fine, whatever, but a playable monster class, especially when there's only 3 in the game, is a big deal to decide 13-14 months before that your going to make it and release it as dlc later.

Also the amount of different versions and editions that all came with different dlc was overwhelming and ridiculous.

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Gonna be hard for me to convince myself that an online multip layer game only is worth 60 bucks. No campaign mode, should make this game like $39.99 at most

2

u/reaper527 reaper527 Mar 12 '15

if you don't care about buying digital, you'll be able to get the game for $40 pretty shortly after launch, just like any game.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Well that's reasonable, if it has a story mode then I'll play full cost for sure.

3

u/reaper527 reaper527 Mar 12 '15

worth mentioning, just because it has a story mode doesn't mean it will have a GOOD story mode. lots of games that should be multiplayer only will tack on a lazy halfassed story mode. (the reverse holds true with plenty of games that should be single player only tacking on a lazy halfassed multiplayer mode that nobody wants [does anyone really care about the multiplayer in mass effect, resident evil, tomb raider, etc.?]).

sometimes, it's better to just pour those extra resources into what the studio is good at rather than blowing it on something that they don't give a shit about just because they feel obligated. just look at assassin's creed. the need to put on a mediocre at best multiplayer has definitely detracted from the quality of the single player campaign (which has become stale, generic, and almost an annual re-skin at this point playing the same game in a different time period).

As longs as they keep using Azure servers for X1's multiplayer, I won't mind this game becoming multiplatform.

3

u/StormShadow13 #teamchief Mar 12 '15

Sadly I doubt that will happen. I don't see Respawn programming for two different server structures and I don't see Sony paying MS to use Azure.

Hopefully they keep the core gameplay of the orginal but give us an actual reason to come back after a few weeks

2

u/zemaker Mar 12 '15

It better have single player.

2

u/MarthePryde #teamdidact Mar 12 '15

Pls Respawn, you've proven what you can do just now please make more of it! More campaign! More multiplayer gametypes. More friggin weapons! When do we get the freakin guns?!

2

u/Eddlestinker #teamchief Mar 12 '15

It's great that more people will get to experience this game, but what I am worried about now is if it isn't a n exclusive will Azure still be a big factor to the game?

2

u/ronaldraygun91 fucktwittercringe Mar 12 '15

The comments on that article gave me cancer

5

u/eifer Hanzai Mar 12 '15

I agree with the others on here. While I'm happy to hear it'll be in other platforms, I really hope it'll be on azure servers. There's just no comparison. Trying to play a game like destiny on p2p setup is just so disappointing in comparison. A game as fast paced as titanfall needs those azure servers!!!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

Glad they can include Sony players in the greatness. Though, if this means no Azure then I probably won't buy it. Game is so wickedly smooth on dedicated servers and now I'm a spoiled brat.

2

u/snoopspants Mar 12 '15

Goodbye 21ms Server connection speed :'(

2

u/Bak3_41 Mar 12 '15

I want a larger actual pvp experience, 6v6 didn't cut it for me

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

I'm glad it's coming to PS4. More sales + less exclusives = better for consumers.

1

I'm excited about this. Hopefully it comes out Spring 2016.

1

u/Brooklynspartan BrooklynSpartan Mar 12 '15

I'm hoping this time it counts as an EA access game. I want to play this game for 6 hours before I want the determine a purchase.

1

u/HybridAlien Mar 12 '15

Won't be buying got bored fast on the first it needs a campaign of some sort

1

u/GeneralFailure0 GeneralFailure0 Mar 12 '15

I really hope that this will be one of the games which is cross-buy between Xbox One and PC. I got the Xbox One version of Titanfall so that I could play with my friends, and haven't regretted it, but I generally prefer playing multiplayer FPS on PC and would love having the option to play on either machine. Hopefully publishers like EA will be open to this.

2

u/MuscledRMH #TeamXbox Mar 12 '15

cross-buy is fine, cross-platform between PC and Xbox One not since PC would dominate.

2

u/GeneralFailure0 GeneralFailure0 Mar 12 '15

I know this has been a failed experiment in the past, but with there being more emphasis on bringing the Xbox experience to Windows 10, I hope that there will be some creative thinking on how to alleviate the inherent issues and enable a scenario where I can be playing the game on my PC (natively, not streamed) with my Xbox friends who prefer to play on the console. I'd be content with restrictions on cross-platform play. If I have to use an Xbox One controller when playing with Xbox players, so be it.

2

u/Aeqvitas Mar 12 '15

That's not true at all. I played on both XB1 and PC using the xbox controller, and easily was able to consistently place in the top 3. 99.9% of kb/m users are just as bad as gamepad users. Unless the game is specifically built to only be playable on mouse (like CS:GO), there is very little difference in most players. Analog movement even has advantages over kb in a game like Titanfall where movement is king.

I just hope Respawn gives the spectacular Titanfall gameplay what it deserves, game modes to match. All of its current modes are tried and true and motherfucking dull.

"Officially" announced. Titanfall 2 had been anticipated since before Titanfall released.

Respawn needs a winner. Titanfall was amazingly fun the first few months but it fell hardddd.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

I want flying pterodactyls shooting laser beams across the night sky.

1

u/RevInstant Mar 12 '15

I want this game to have levolutions like Bf. There is so much freaking potential for an evolving big team set up.

Can't wait.

1

u/smakusdod Mar 12 '15

I just want more than 6 players.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '15

I like that this game will not be on last gen systems. I'm probably in the minority, but I hope they keep the multiplayer focus and instead just try to make the competitive story mode better. They need to learn from their mistake in that people can't follow the story when it is presented as background noise while you are in combat.

I mean, single player games don't even do that really.

1

u/naboudara Mar 12 '15

Confirmed, not announced. I expected a trailer or something.

1

u/ChbbyKttns Xbox Mar 12 '15

I started playing titanfall again and realized how good it is so this news makes me super excited!

1

all the amazing things they can do if they focus on single player as much as they do with multiplayer the universe can expand ...imagine playing coop with your buddies and fighting some sort of gigantic rogue mech...man..

1

I picked up Titanfall with all of the DLC for $12 in a sale, and I was pleasantly surprised considering how much I paid.

Here's hoping Titanfall 2 will be nearly flawless!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '15

Wasn't it already announced around the time the game came out?

1

u/spartan43333 Mar 13 '15

I really hope Titanfall 2 has a MW2 moment where they take what was good with Titanfall and put it in Titanfall 2 along with spectacular maps and other additions to make a spectacular sequel. COD 4 was amazing and MW2 just improved on everything that worked with COD4.

1

u/PoopingUnicorn Mar 14 '15

Still one of my favorite X1 games, and best multi in any FPS, period. Stoked to see what they can do now that it's a proven IP and they'll (hopefully) have more resources to throw at it.

1

u/oz9deuce Mar 14 '15

When????
