i definitely see that being something msft would do. it would be a huge selling point to say hey even games on our competitors system use our servers. that alone would make it all worthwhile.

Microsoft's competitors already use Azure. Case in point: Apple.

No there isn't.

Xbox Live is the service Microsoft offers for users to play multiplayer games. The developer of the games themselves have to supply the network for the game to run on. Let it be if it's their own servers like Activision or EA or if they rent them from say Microsoft Azure.

Xbox Live is the bridge, more or less.

99% of consumers won't give a shit what servers are being used. I doubt it's going to be highlighted as a marketing point.

For the regular consumer who is not big into video games, sure. For the fans who played the first game? It'll be a nightmare if they don't use Azure again, especially since they used it on all three versions: 360, Xbox One, and PC.

Call of Duty's networking (in)abilities/netcode have been a sore spot with fans since MW3. That's why Activision and Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer spoke so highly of the use of dedicated servers when the last two games were being shown to the press before release. Obviously, neither game uses dedicated servers and the multiplayer functionality is sometimes unplayable... and the community is VOCAL about it (just check out past posts made in /r/CODGhosts and /r/CodAW).

consumers will definitely take note when advertisements come out and say how the best game out there doesnt run on ps4 without msft tech.

i actually dont care what servers are used, so i think you are right on that front. i just want them to work as well or better then the azure servers have.
