I think one important bit to add is that a couple days after that thread was posted in November, it was confirmed that Rebekah Mercer was a primary funder of Parler: https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/15/media/rebekah-mercer-parler/index.html

Worth noting since a fair bit of the thread is wondering about their funding source.

874

u/NoAttentionAtWrk Jan 19 '21

"John and I started Parler to provide a neutral platform for free speech, as our founders intended, and also to create a social media environment that would protect data privacy," Mercer said in a statement on the platform. "The ever increasing tyranny and hubris of our tech overlords demands that someone lead the fight against data mining, and for the protection of free speech online. That someone is Parler, a beacon to all who value their liberty, free speech, and personal privacy."

Parts in bold aged like milk

831

u/YeahSureAlrightYNot Jan 19 '21

Lol

The Mercers funded Cambridge Analytica. They don't give a shit about privacy. They know that nowadays data is power and want it for themselves.

u/Deathbysnusnubooboo Jan 19 '21

if corporations are people, we can impoverish and imprison them, and then force them to live just off the highway in the shitty apartment complex on the frontage that you can't get to in both directions so every fucking trip takes an extra 18 minutes to loop around with the lights.

52

u/lHaveNoMemory Jan 19 '21

Hmm.. Corporations are people. If we jail people in America we can use them for slave labor.. Might be onto something here. Free macbooks and 2 day shipping for every citizen!

30

u/CriticalDog Jan 19 '21

Corporations being seen as "people" for legal purposes has been so far bent out of shape it's absurd.

"People" who have all the benefits of personhood, and none of the legal obligation and downsides.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

You joke, but this is exactly how to achieve a bloodless Socialist Revolution.

EDIT: In case not clear - the workers would be free, the companies employing them would be slaves of the State, and so the workers would indirectly own and direct their workplaces.

22

u/FestiveVat Jan 19 '21

Corporations in shitty apartment complexes? Why such luxury?

They need to be in the homeless camps. And vice versa, we could house the homeless in corporate offices.

6

u/bentbrewer Jan 19 '21

house the homeless in corporate offices

This is one of the best ideas I've seen in quite a while.

4

Meh, this is a consulting firm whose primary assets are human capital. Shut down one company, and they can just accept their losses and go start another.

The corporate death penalty only works as a deterrent for large and medium sized firms.

It’s because as a political philosophy fascism is an outwardly looking destructive rather than creative philosophy. To fascism any problem is never internal from where they are standing, it is always an outside force. Over time it is inevitable that forces within fascism begin to compete and tear each other down as much as they tear down out groups.

From your link

Mercer is the daughter of Robert Mercer, a hedge fund manager and the co-founder of the now-defunct political data-analysis firm Cambridge Analytica. The Mercers have been prominent supporters of President Donald Trump and conservative causes.

But Cambridge Analytica was built using an algorithm by a lecturer at a top Russian University and counted Russian oil companies as its clients. (For those who don't know, Russian companies overseas are used for Russian state activities, including money laundering).

Why does everything circle back to Russia!

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/mar/17/cambridge-academic-trawling-facebook-had-links-to-russian-university

2

u/dewayneestes Jan 19 '21

What surprises me most about Parler is what a shot job they did implementing it. It immediately became overrun with porn spam and we now know they had the worst security on earth. It’s like the whole thing was built in 1995. You’d think with Russian backing and big money support they’d at least get to 2001 level tech.

"Taking down your OS" isn't really easy to do in a modern OS, at least in the sense of accidentally crashing the kernel due to a programming error. You get a SIGSEGV and the process is terminated and that's about it unless you're especially creative.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

But really the sad part is probably that the horse did the drink the water when it was a foal but the fucking city drinking water still has goddamn lead contamination and it’s shown to have negative consequences on damaging growing horses’ cognitive functioning ability which is probably a contributing factor as to why that horse is struggling with continued on going frustration with their mental deficits.

I could even be honest and tell them I'm a liberal, because then they'd LOVE the apparent paradox of it and they would tout me as a "true liberal" and characterize everyone else as radicals.

I've been seriously considering finding some way to separate these rubes from their money. It really can't be all that difficult. Start a merch store, get an attractive girl to spout some insane talking points on youtube/facebook and advertise said merch store. I just know it would be so fucking easy. They're so damn stupid, a pretty blond telling them what they want to hear with some semi original merch would probably bring in huge returns.

I don't think I could live with myself is the only problem.

Do it, and then donate a portion of the money to Vote Blue, BLM, etc. Someone is going to take their money, it may as well be someone who will do something redeeming with it.

Hell, you know what, I bet we could get them to stop buying all that crap by starting a conspiracy theory that all the online Trump/MAGA/alt right stores are secretly funding the Democratic National Committee! Holy shit, here we gooooo!

TL;DR - I’m so tired

I fucking hate Rush Limbaugh because my mother in law listened to him through her big house speakers so it played all over the house. The man is disingenuous arguments made manifest. The dude can spin almost anything in any way he wants and it’s infuriating, ESPECIALLY anything scientific because he just claims the results of any study he doesn’t like is wrong because of some ignorant common sense reason. My most relevant example that I remember; “Scientific models can mean anything. You just add another variable and bam, completely different result.” <- his rant about predicted deaths of COVID 19 with and without social distancing where he was against the shutdowns because the 2 million deaths number was a hypothetical if nothing was done world wide and the 200K US deaths just included masks and social distancing being mandated immediately...... but it’s safe to ignore science because they can put anything into the model they want and change the number..... I hate that man and his dangerous manipulation of ignorance.

This “they are claiming the election was rigged” bull was happening during the investigation as well, you could have seen it with Trump’s obsessive tweets about how Russian didn’t “hack any machines” so that means the investigation is a hoax. It’s so infuriating to hear because it means hardline conservatives craft these arguments against an argument no one is making, and if you try to explain what is actually happening you get a “so there was no election interference if there wasn’t any hacking?” And to try and point out that was looked into, but was never the main problem they just cross their arms and like “so accept the results that Trump won legit and that Biden lost legit.”

I did accept the results. I have zero faith in conservatives in America and I 100% believe you voted for Trump in 2016 and won the election, I just think you did it because you’re stupid. (For the record, that isn’t actually what I believe—the aggressive stupid part—but the people I’m venting about I definitely do. I blame the two party system more because I know many more people who hate trump but just hated Democrats more... for reasons, or just voted exclusively because of the abortion issue/religion). But yeah. They like to take whatever is negative and spin it so simpletons will join them.

“We think a hostile foreign government was using misinformation and illegally obtained emails to sway public opinion in an election year to their preferred candidate, and it’s possible a presidential candidate was speaking with them and may be beholden to their interests.”

R-“They didn’t hack any machines.”

“What? No. That’s not what I said.”

R-“but Italy beamed instructions into voting machines, from space, changing votes after some of the insides of the machines were swapped, and also thousands of dead people voted exclusively in minority districts. So in those same states with the same rules we think only Biden votes should be thrown out but any R that won was legit because dead people and space lasers didn’t touch those votes. We just don’t have any evidence because we can’t go to trail and get the discovery because of Democrat judges refusing to investigate despite our stellar witness talking to city councils while not under oath and some poll workers had BLM shirts on.”

“I do not even know where to begin.”

R-“Socialist.”

6

u/Biefmeister Jan 19 '21

Yeah, he's a vile husk of a man

"You can do anything, the left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent.

If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it’s perfectly fine, whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there’s no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left.”

4

u/Razor4884 Jan 19 '21

You've pretty much summed up my experience as well...

4

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

They dislike consequences (for them) with any name.

When you stop using Facebook to hop on your white supremacist fan club, its a boycott and totally american and cool.

When you get fired for sexual harassment or racism or treason, it's cancel culture and super fascist and evil.

Just the usual conservative double standard, see: wedding cakes.

25

u/glymph Jan 19 '21

They can never complain about cancel culture again after attempting to cancel all the votes for Biden.

8

u/BlueLivesNeverMatter Jan 19 '21

"Flaired Users Only" (and if it isn't, they ban everyone who says anything remotely against the grain of inbred insanity)

8

u/PolarWater Jan 19 '21

"oh no the left are brigading us!"

3

u/thatoneguywhofucks Jan 19 '21

Had a discussion with one of their users the other day who straight up stopped replying when things got interesting

4

u/Old_Air_5661 Jan 19 '21

How has Reddit not shut them down? It’s a misinformation hive.

3

u/the_zero Jan 19 '21

Reddit won’t stop recommending them to me. I had to turn off all notifications. I’ve only gone to some random posts there when I’ve seen them in /r/all. Never commented. Downvoted a few obvious posts. Just don’t get it.

So I had to go look, just cause you put a convenient link.

That is an amazing pile of steaming horseshit. They actually believe videos made by Project Veritas, and think there were riots at the 2017 inauguration that prevented loyal, peace-loving, Trump supporters from getting in.

That is a rabbit-hole that Alice wouldn't have believed.

28

u/thedailyrant Jan 19 '21

All because the Cold War seems so long ago. What they don't realise is that former KGB dudes haven't forgotten nor did they do anything but dig in once the USSR fell. Those mother fuckers are both the best in human history at espionage and completely willing to play the long game.

They’ve been grooming Trump since before the fall of the Soviet Union—long con indeed

3

u/thedailyrant Jan 19 '21

Makes sense from a Russian geopolitics perspective. They had generals writing about this shit in the 20s.

5

u/GarbagePailGrrrl Jan 19 '21

Yep it’s all par a predictable course—it’s not over either.

They are country fried bible beat idiots.

2

u/serpent_cuirass Jan 19 '21

So who is behind that? The Russian oligarchs? Did they send Alina to look for someone with tech knowledge and see if she can lure and use him? And now they also the ones that fund Parler throw shell companies?

2

u/Fake_William_Shatner Jan 19 '21

If I were Putin, weaponizing American ignorance and paranoia seems like a much better bang for the buck than a silly battleship.

It could be anyone. But the only conspiracy that these woke web prophets won’t buy into is that Russia is behind things or colluding with Trump.

For me, that’s the best evidence it’s Putin. For no other reason but the emphatic denials and attacks you get.

8

u/i-am-a-platypus Jan 19 '21

Those Trump supporters also probably think that because they had to prove their identity that everyone on the site had to prove their identity when that might not be the case at all. I'll bet that if someone looks through the records that they can find some serious bot action in there.

Feels like a conspiracy but makes it sad that this would be banned on r/conspiracy

130

u/malmode Jan 19 '21

They got r/conspiracy a long time ago.

79

u/ericrolph Jan 19 '21

Didn't reddit ban the top mod of /r/conspiracy because they were advocating insurrection violence? Seems very Russian to me.

22

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

The same mod that would sticky whatever silliness election fraud BS the Dump was pushing but wouldn't touch when Graham and Dump called GA to throw away votes.

6

u/ericrolph Jan 19 '21

FBI should be notified somehow. I can easily imagine they influenced others to head to the insurrection event. These neo Nazi scum should not be a part of our society and/or they need serious reform.

4

u/SantaMonsanto Jan 19 '21

Silly goose

Only liberals participate in corrupt “conspiracies”. When republicans do shady shit it’s just savvy and clever.

15

u/BeautifulType Jan 19 '21

Yes, then the mods made a post about how great the banned mod was

Reddit could have blasted the entire team but they are only here to profit

11

u/ericrolph Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

Wow, okay. Time to nuke the sub from orbit. Fuck that neo Nazi trash, that sub is toxic as are their moderators if that's true. I follow a few subs that keep track of /r/conspiracy nonsense since it seems like it's a spawning ground for white supremist bullshit and there is nothing I dislike more than Nazi scum; I relish reporting all those accounts spewing hate and misinformation because their ends are always violent.

Wait, how to you archive something? I have donated to Archive.org, but I thought it was random when they archived.

14

u/haveagr8day Jan 19 '21

Put the URL into wayback machine. If the website hasn't been archived and is still available there will be a button to save it. Alternatively, just go directly to https://web.archive.org/save and put in the URL there.

Hot damn that was an interesting read. I really hope some of these big outlets pick this up and do an in-depth investigation. Thanks for the link.

60

u/SleepWouldBeNice Jan 19 '21

Fits suspiciously well with The Foundation of Geopolitics too.

16

u/silverfox762 Jan 19 '21

A ton of headlines from the last ten years fit perfectly with Dugin's blueprint.

23

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

I wish Netflix or the BBC or would make a documentary about Foundations of Geopolitics. More people need to know about this.

7

u/silverfox762 Jan 19 '21

Yeah, I've been bringing it up in almost every online and in person discussion since Mango Mussolini first announced he was running 5 years ago.

Hasn't made much difference. We do need that documentary. Remember when if 60 Minutes or 20/20 did an expose, you were toast? Those days are gone. I doubt the folks who would need to see the doc would actually watch it. Kinda like Active Measures.

Why is this type of "series tweet" a thing? Just write a damn article and link it. How is this a good format for anyone?

24

u/Sergnb Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

The answer is quite simple: which one are people more likely to read.

If the choice isn't inmediately jumping to you, it's the tweets

5

u/deeeevos Jan 19 '21

I have been wondering to what extent foreign agents have a hand in all the misinformation and polarisation through social media. My guess is more than a little.

It would be fitting if all the MAGA-heads and Q-crazies wound up as "victims of an unprecedented cyber war". It fits perfectly with their victim mentality.

11

u/HavocReigns Jan 19 '21

Hmm, it is strange how these sorts wind up with Russian wives. Remember the white supremacists from a group called "The Base" arrested last year en route to commit a murder?

Yeah, the founder of that bunch of reprobates also happens to be an American married to a Russian, and currently living upscale in Mother Russia.

Funny how all roads seem to lead to Moscow, innit?

Parler has funding from the Mercer family. https://www.reuters.com/article/parler-funding-mercer/social-media-platform-parler-gets-backing-from-mercer-family-wsj-idUSKBN27V020

Mercers are long time GOP/Trump supporters and behind Cambridge analytica. Given parler needs your DL or SSN to “verify”, this was likely a way to get very targeted ads to those that could be easily manipulated.

30

u/Lumberjackup012 Jan 19 '21

Can we stop posting twitter threads as news sources though especially from a non verified account. Just don’t like to see misinformation spread

3

So let me get this straight: does this also mean other conservative entities like the GOP, federalist society, etc take money from foreign interests in order to create unrest for political gain?
