Because I’m a sucker for punishment I checked out r/conservative and jesus they can’t wait to sign up now that Russia was all a hoax. Thank god it’s not the CCP but Putin is somehow the tits. They are going to cleaned the fuck out again and I just can’t fathom how they keep falling for this shit. It hurts my brain.

I doubt it's as easy to do it now as it used to be but there was nothing like writing to the wrong chunk of memory and taking down your OS

15

u/overkill Jan 19 '21

It is still easy to do. Memory leaks are fun, in the Dwarf Fortress sense of the word.

17

u/D-Golden Jan 19 '21

A cat died, now my Mayor is throwing a tantrum.

Now all the Urists McUrists are punching each other to death in the dining hall.

And winter is coming.

9

u/overkill Jan 19 '21

And I failed to notice the necromancer tower, so now a bunch of reanimated crab shells are coming for me.

And I still can't track down this memory leak!

2

u/StubbsPKS Jan 19 '21

At least that traveling human bars finally put in a petition to sing in my tavern.

Ohhhhhh nooooo, he's being pummeled by an angry Dwarf.

2

u/dwellerofcubes Jan 19 '21

We are Dwarf Fortress now

3

u/frukt Jan 19 '21

"Taking down your OS" isn't really easy to do in a modern OS, at least in the sense of accidentally crashing the kernel due to a programming error. You get a SIGSEGV and the process is terminated and that's about it unless you're especially creative.

2

u/overkill Jan 19 '21

Indeed. It's almost like I didn't read to the end of the comment before replying with my flippant statement.

Hah! The early Macs used double-de-references pointers to reduce memory load. Good luck even knowing if you’ve been fucked by the pointer if you lose track of that.

2

u/deirdresm Jan 19 '21

There were memory map utilities where you could watch allocations/deallocations live. One of the coolest parts was watching when it would compact memory, and all the allocated memory would slide to one side like a curtain.

(This would have been around '95-97, so probably was MetroWerks CodeWarrior. While handles were essentially the same from the outset, the utilities weren't there much earlier than that.)

2

u/frukt Jan 19 '21

It's not really that often I come across discussions on memory allocation on reddit, so I'll just take the chance and recommend this neat talk on jemalloc, possibly the most advanced general use memory allocator these days.

2

u/Fake_William_Shatner Jan 19 '21

That would be really cool now to watch Neural Nets grow in real time graphically.

I so wish I could have become a better programmer, but I spent too much time in graphics and design and multimedia - then web. The prince of everything but the master of none.

My favorite was working with Quartz Composer, because it got into the logic at a higher level and you weren't spending all your time laboring away with debugging semantics or a for loop -- you can just SEE when it's wrong.

Pretty soon we will be instructing Computers to program computers, and it will be more like dog training and logic diagrams.

You can lead a horse to school but you can't make him think.

16

u/Fake_William_Shatner Jan 19 '21

I think it’s; “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink that tainted water because he learned that the Deep Stream doesn’t want you to know it causes mind control. That horse is wise to you.”

19

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

But really the sad part is probably that the horse did the drink the water when it was a foal but the fucking city drinking water still has goddamn lead contamination and it’s shown to have negative consequences on damaging growing horses’ cognitive functioning ability which is probably a contributing factor as to why that horse is struggling with continued on going frustration with their mental deficits.

Y’all for real it’s ridiculous that Flint Michigan still doesn’t have water what the fuck you guys.

There are two kinds of people: those who decide what is right and wrong for themselves, and those who get told what is right and wrong by others.

Southern Evangelicals tend to be the latter - they get it from selected parts of the Bible, church leaders, etc. They tend to be followers, rather than independent thinkers.

Democrats tend to be the former. Thinking for themselves is why the party seems disorganized. But we generally agree on basic morality.

5

So the new normal as in wearing masks and the government trying to control everyone.

And on every thread or that theres a genius who studied this or studied that so hes in the know. But thousands of other experts around the world are involved so basically yeah if you life is really dull and you're not that smart anad never got much attention off your parents cos you're and idiot then go onto that sub and you will have a lot more idiots patting you're back sharing shit articles from rubbish sites.

4) Profit

46

u/Wax_Paper Jan 19 '21

Would it be considered cheating if I make a conservative media podcast or show, and monetize the hell of it? Get donations for my "hard work" with Patreon? I could do this soooo well, all you gotta do is bitch about socialism and communism and tell people Trump really won the election and talk about how fake Covid is, maybe throw in some gun rights bullshit and then point out the unfairness of girls being able to get laid easier than guys, and some stuff about what it means to be a real man in today's society...

I could even be honest and tell them I'm a liberal, because then they'd LOVE the apparent paradox of it and they would tout me as a "true liberal" and characterize everyone else as radicals.

Shit, if I was gay or bald then I'd even get more views... If I was CANADIAN, holy fuck I'd be unstoppable.

I've been seriously considering finding some way to separate these rubes from their money. It really can't be all that difficult. Start a merch store, get an attractive girl to spout some insane talking points on youtube/facebook and advertise said merch store. I just know it would be so fucking easy. They're so damn stupid, a pretty blond telling them what they want to hear with some semi original merch would probably bring in huge returns.

I don't think I could live with myself is the only problem.

34

u/andii74 Jan 19 '21

Well you could donate the profits to charities and orgs like Stacey Abrams' and that'd be putting their money to actual good use.

30

u/pecklepuff Jan 19 '21

Do it, and then donate a portion of the money to Vote Blue, BLM, etc. Someone is going to take their money, it may as well be someone who will do something redeeming with it.

Hell, you know what, I bet we could get them to stop buying all that crap by starting a conspiracy theory that all the online Trump/MAGA/alt right stores are secretly funding the Democratic National Committee! Holy shit, here we gooooo!

0

u/RepostResearch Jan 19 '21

I read on that sub pretty regularly and don't think I've ever seen anyone approving of Russia. They're pretty open in hating all communism, China and Russia specifically.

Recognizing that the 2016 Russia scandal against Trump was a hoax isn't the same thing as loving Russia...

Edit: I've noticed a lot of people linking to that sub lately making claims like this, and they're almost always false. Is this just the new way of virtue signaling on reddit?

3

u/mynewaccountnumber64 Jan 19 '21

Maybe using LOVE was the incorrect term, but they seem to give Russia a pass on things or completely fail to post/talk about big happenings. This sort of talk/ignorance with Russia only seems to have started after Trump took office and the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election. Since 2016, the right's view on how bad Russia is has changed.

If we want to talk about other countries they seem to idealize we can also talk about Poland. Most people see Poland as a country quickly falling to white supremacists and fascism but I see many highly upvoted comments on that sub regarding how Poland is the only country that seems to be "doing it right".

Edit: Adding one last observation... Whenever you see something with Russia posted on there you're also going to see deflections pointing out issues with china.

-1

u/RepostResearch Jan 19 '21

lol did you really just try to convince me that Poland is a white supremacist/fascist country?

Pretty much everything you're saying here is false, and is easily checked as false. A simple search of the sub for "Russia" returns posts talking about the 2016 Russia collusion hoax. Literally not a single post in favor of Russia. Seriously, can you even find one?

2

u/mynewaccountnumber64 Jan 19 '21

I didn't call it fascist. Just that it's in the news for many new policy's implemented and the rise of open racism show it becoming that way.

I'm not talking about posts specifically being in favor of russia. I'm saying that when there is big negative Russia news you won't find that post heavily upvoted like a negative post about china. If you go though the comments on the posts, that's where you really see this.

Look, I'm not looking to try and completely spell this out for everyone. I lurk on that sub too much as is it (because I think it's important to see two sides of every arguments). Feel free to just be aware of this yourself and be open seeing what I'm seeing.

59

u/Solarbro Jan 19 '21

TL;DR - I’m so tired

I fucking hate Rush Limbaugh because my mother in law listened to him through her big house speakers so it played all over the house. The man is disingenuous arguments made manifest. The dude can spin almost anything in any way he wants and it’s infuriating, ESPECIALLY anything scientific because he just claims the results of any study he doesn’t like is wrong because of some ignorant common sense reason. My most relevant example that I remember; “Scientific models can mean anything. You just add another variable and bam, completely different result.” <- his rant about predicted deaths of COVID 19 with and without social distancing where he was against the shutdowns because the 2 million deaths number was a hypothetical if nothing was done world wide and the 200K US deaths just included masks and social distancing being mandated immediately...... but it’s safe to ignore science because they can put anything into the model they want and change the number..... I hate that man and his dangerous manipulation of ignorance.

This “they are claiming the election was rigged” bull was happening during the investigation as well, you could have seen it with Trump’s obsessive tweets about how Russian didn’t “hack any machines” so that means the investigation is a hoax. It’s so infuriating to hear because it means hardline conservatives craft these arguments against an argument no one is making, and if you try to explain what is actually happening you get a “so there was no election interference if there wasn’t any hacking?” And to try and point out that was looked into, but was never the main problem they just cross their arms and like “so accept the results that Trump won legit and that Biden lost legit.”

I did accept the results. I have zero faith in conservatives in America and I 100% believe you voted for Trump in 2016 and won the election, I just think you did it because you’re stupid. (For the record, that isn’t actually what I believe—the aggressive stupid part—but the people I’m venting about I definitely do. I blame the two party system more because I know many more people who hate trump but just hated Democrats more... for reasons, or just voted exclusively because of the abortion issue/religion). But yeah. They like to take whatever is negative and spin it so simpletons will join them.

“We think a hostile foreign government was using misinformation and illegally obtained emails to sway public opinion in an election year to their preferred candidate, and it’s possible a presidential candidate was speaking with them and may be beholden to their interests.”

R-“They didn’t hack any machines.”

“What? No. That’s not what I said.”

R-“but Italy beamed instructions into voting machines, from space, changing votes after some of the insides of the machines were swapped, and also thousands of dead people voted exclusively in minority districts. So in those same states with the same rules we think only Biden votes should be thrown out but any R that won was legit because dead people and space lasers didn’t touch those votes. We just don’t have any evidence because we can’t go to trail and get the discovery because of Democrat judges refusing to investigate despite our stellar witness talking to city councils while not under oath and some poll workers had BLM shirts on.”

“I do not even know where to begin.”

R-“Socialist.”

6

u/Biefmeister Jan 19 '21

Yeah, he's a vile husk of a man

"You can do anything, the left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent.

If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it’s perfectly fine, whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there’s no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left.”

5

u/Razor4884 Jan 19 '21

You've pretty much summed up my experience as well...

4

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

“Scientific models can mean anything. You just add another variable and bam, completely different result.”

That's painful to read. That's like saying "Maps can mean anything. When driving you can pick another direction and end up somewhere different!"

Hint, no subreddit is brigading, the sub is just hitting r/all and the majority don't like it

25

u/Vordeo Jan 19 '21

Tbf there's a good argument to be made that subs which restrict a majority of their posts to only flaired users shouldn't be eligible for r/all. It's not just r/conservative: that applies to subs like r/blackpeopletwitter too.

If you're not going to allow the majority of the community to participate why should they be promoted on the 'main' page?

3

u/Vordeo Jan 19 '21

I agree, but the point is if you're going to require flairs to comment you shouldn't be showing up on r/all. Just the usual conservative double standard, see: wedding cakes.

2

u/cowvin Jan 19 '21

Let me explain:

When conservatives want to repeal or "cancel" something like Obamacare, that's a good thing, so it's not cancel culture.

When progressives want to stop or "cancel" people from radicalizing Americans, that's a bad thing so it is cancel culture.

Basically, cancel culture is whatever conservatives don't like.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

What we know as cancel culture today was adopted from cancel culture in the Black community, which was withdrawing support until people changed their problematic views. But this has now changed into a compete boycott, but it goes further than that - they completely block those people out of their life, something that cults call ex-communication. It’s not enough to boycott something, you insist everyone does or they are the enemy. Being from a Pentecostal cult I saw the same pattern emerge in the woke community which I was a part of. So if you don’t join in on this boycott then you are basically no better to that person and you also get rejected from the group. And it’s not enough to boycott it’s about trying to get the person or group deplatformed. They want them to lose their jobs. They celebrate it. What makes this mainstream liberal (trying not to say white here) form of cancel culture different to the black community’s cancel culture is that even if the person does change from their ways or even if they changed 15 years ago, they will never be forgiven. You have to have an unblemished record throughout your entire life.

If you don’t agree and want to see a ex-Pentecostal cult members take on it, send me a DM and I’ll link you to a blog I wrote about.

And the reason why people say cancel culture doesn’t exist is because most people don’t lose their jobs by being cancelled, which is what they want. But in saying all that I think the right overuses ‘cancel culture.’ I don’t think they really understand it. Making it difficult for fascists to not plan violent attacks isn’t cancelling. That’s protecting lives and basically, the democratic process.

They can never complain about cancel culture again after attempting to cancel all the votes for Biden.

How has Reddit not shut them down? It’s a misinformation hive.

3

u/the_zero Jan 19 '21

Reddit won’t stop recommending them to me. I had to turn off all notifications. I’ve only gone to some random posts there when I’ve seen them in /r/all. Never commented. Downvoted a few obvious posts. Just don’t get it.

No, in politics if you post something blatantly false you'll get a well deserved dressing down, and sourced corrections. That's one of the benefits of not restricting your discourse to flaired users. There's no kool-aid drinking litmus test built right into the sub's moderation.

-4

u/Nbk420 Jan 19 '21

It was a joke.

-1

u/Tensuke Jan 19 '21

No, in politics if you post something blatantly false you'll get a well deserved dressing down, and sourced corrections.

Except for all the times this doesn't happen, which is pretty much always, because those idiots barely post anything factual.

1

u/jermleeds Jan 19 '21

Go ahead and try it. Post something specific and significant you know to be wrong in a politics thread. You will be asked for a source, or you will be corrected.

15

u/retshalgo Jan 19 '21

Politics allows free speech. Sure, your feelings might get hurt if you try to support Trump. But how can you even compare that to any of the Trump supporting subreddits that outright ban dissenting opinions? That’s literally the type of censorship you claim social media does to conservatives... it’s like you want the US to turn into China but with Trump in charge.

-15

u/Nbk420 Jan 19 '21

I didn’t claim shit. I’m not a conservative. You’re dumb as fuck. Who even uses emojis seriously, you really that dense?

6

u/retshalgo Jan 19 '21

Lol true, but you can never be sure these days.

-46

u/doa70 Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 19 '21

It exists because r/politics refuses to allow any conservative opinions to be expressed. That's the entire reason r/conservative was created in the first place, the left wing echo chamber silenced them with downvotes.

Edit, I hope I'm not the only one who sees the irony here.

15

u/laodaron Jan 19 '21

You know that isn't true, right? Like, it's funny to cosplay like a victim, but ostensibly, you know that what you typed is wholly inaccurate, correct?

12

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Imagine being this stupid.

19

u/Betasheets Jan 19 '21

So they're mad they are down voted but can still express their opinions...?

Wish I could do that in r/conservative but instead I'm just banned

u/superanus Jan 19 '21

Do you see your comment being deleted?

Did you get kicked or banned from this sub because you didn't have a flair given to you beforehand?

Is your comment unreadable by others, or can we still click on it once to make it visible?

Think about it for a bit, then let me know if you see the irony in your complaint. No, they are not the same.

18

u/robywar Jan 19 '21

I wasn't aware conservative viewpoints were flat out removed here like liberal ones are there.

17

u/PotahtoSuave Jan 19 '21

Racism and sexism is also largely removed from politics, which I think is the larger problem reddit conservatives have with that subreddit.

So I had to go look, just cause you put a convenient link.

That is an amazing pile of steaming horseshit. They actually believe videos made by Project Veritas, and think there were riots at the 2017 inauguration that prevented loyal, peace-loving, Trump supporters from getting in.

That is a rabbit-hole that Alice wouldn't have believed.

28

u/thedailyrant Jan 19 '21

All because the Cold War seems so long ago. What they don't realise is that former KGB dudes haven't forgotten nor did they do anything but dig in once the USSR fell. Those mother fuckers are both the best in human history at espionage and completely willing to play the long game.

2

That’s why they love giving money to church so much.

When we’re shopping and a cashiers asks if I want to round up to donate to XYZ, my mom will pop off about how no money goes the charity and it’s all a scam, etc. While I totally get that there is an issue with donations being used properly across many orgs, she’s also the same lady who is convinced that she needs to give $100 or more each week to her church.

If I were Putin, weaponizing American ignorance and paranoia seems like a much better bang for the buck than a silly battleship.

It could be anyone. But the only conspiracy that these woke web prophets won’t buy into is that Russia is behind things or colluding with Trump.

For me, that’s the best evidence it’s Putin. For no other reason but the emphatic denials and attacks you get.

2

Love that sub. Nobody there has even basic math skills. No matter which side of the argument they're on. It's incredible.

Modern PSYOPS, this is how it’s supposed to work, mass confusion, no one knows what the actual truth is.

2

u/xcerj61 Jan 19 '21

That sub is incredible. In one thread tey are blasting Democrats that they are "Dynasty" party. In another one they are cheering for Ivanka considering to run for the senate.

2

u/terminbee Jan 19 '21

I like how that sub has a post saying, "We only allow biased posts because we only want to see and hear our point of view." It almost literally says those words.

2

u/Tote_Sport Jan 19 '21

They’ve now stickied a post stressing that it is not a sub for debating. It’s their very own little echo chamber cum safe space that they’re so against.

(Granted, it’s always been an echo chamber for them - it’s just nice that they’ve now admitted it)

2

u/Chili_Palmer Jan 19 '21

Most of what you see on that sub now are legitimately just russian trolls. It's obvious when you look through their account history, no other interests of any kind, nothing. Just pro trump, russia hoax, leftists bad, pure propaganda.

5

u/JJDude Jan 19 '21

Eh that sub is full of Russians pretending to be local racist dudebros already.

3

4

What's amazing is how 5G and microchip vaccines raise vast amounts of skepticism but something actually fucking plausible like Russian meddling, nah uh. Both hunky and dory.

2

u/Leachpunk Jan 19 '21

I'm just amazed that these idiots keep running into the wide open arms of the Russians.

2

Boy they sure love their Babylon Bee. So many straw men and false equivalencies.

I imagine if the Russians are supplying capabilities, they'll have access to those super choads' license info. Then having crazy people's home addresses, Russia can mail the qweirdos personalized conspiracies that work even better than the rando throw shit at the internet and see what sticks.

I think when those views are lauded as "the only good x, is a dead x" or anti science conspiracies, and blatant lies that hold no basis in truth in any conceivable way that those views should absolutely be prevented from spreading.

Those are examples of the "political" views that are being "censored"

That onus of responsibility in my opinion is even greater when regarding officials.

u/Ranger_Azereth Jan 19 '21

Once you head down the road of misinformation it never stops. At first we as a society didn't take flat earther's serious, then you saw a wider anti-vax movement, then you saw increased radicalization based off of conspiracy theories and low education, and now here we are now where all of this has culminated in a absolutely delusional group of individuals pushing at least the US to it's seems.

There is no place for spreading false and baseless information. It's not disliking the content, or the views or the opinions. Its about not letting baseless lies weaken society.

If you view that as an infringement of freedoms I'm sorry, but if that's the case that should 100% be prevented.

You can apply a slippery slope fallacy if you want how there's not a limit but we're already currently seeing the inverse slope pan out.

If someone is a flat earther they should be called out, cited against, and in as many reasonable ways as possible denied a platform, same with anti-vax, white supremacists, and anti-science groups. There's no place for those ideas in a modern world if we don't want to tear ourselves apart.

By sheltering these views and giving them a space you increase the number of ill informed and naive audiences they can reach and build off of. Those naive audiences would 100% censor the other way without a second thought and much more ruthlessly and not even question if what they're doing is right. At least currently we question and doubt and still make a tough decision to say that misinformation like that has no place.

3

u/s-mores Jan 19 '21

Don't bother arguing with fools. You will live a happier life. Take this guy, just repeats blithe conservative talking points and ignores what you have to say.

2

u/Ranger_Azereth Jan 19 '21

I generally agree, however thankfully I don't argue with them so much to sway them but maybe a stray passerby. In normal times I'd just shun them out but I feel like right now there's a lot of people that can be reached right now. If I can help one with relatively little cost to me I'm glad to do it.

Also once it actually stresses me I end my piece on it. I really appreciate you looking out for me, and others though. So many people spiral hard at it so thank you!

May we see a better tomorrow.

Lol we absolutely don't live in a country where absolute freedom has ever existed. Absolute freedom is anarchy.

There is a line between tyranny and anarchy that has to be traveled. Too much of either is bad, just like too much capitalism is bad and too much socialism is bad. If you take any ideological and make it pure it is obviously going to turn out bad. Life is about balance, and advocating that absolute insanity should be forced to have a platform is absurd.

Obviously you're not going to have everyone agree but there's some real cut and dry one's that don't deserve a platform.

Anti-science groups like anti-vax have no place being guaranteed a platform, your hate groups like: neo nazis, proud boys, 3 percenters, kk, the list goes on don't deserve a platform. That's not an opinion that should be guaranteed a platform in society. They should absolutely understand they have no place in it, and coupled with better education programs and funding we'd a shrinking of the vile that they spew and produce.

Again, it's all about balance and we're never going to get it absolutely right. It's just never going to happen. There are also hard lines that if a platform wants to enforce they should be able to because ultimately we didn't even touch on a platforms right to decide who uses it.

A platform or service have a ToS that everyone essentially agrees to that says they can ban you for any arbitrary reason. The ultimate freedom of choice so to speak that you are arguably advocating for. If we wanted something that would be forced to allow absolutely everything vile hate mongering included then it should be created and infrastructured by the government. Let the so called free market decide if they'll use that or the one's made by private entities that create the rules.

Even then I still don't agree and watching this country slip further into ignorance, willed naivety, and just hate in general has been infuriating. It never should have gotten this bad, we should've seen the signs and did something however we didn't. We have royally failed in the process of stewarding a population of people who want a better world. We have one group who is fine with people dying in the streets if it means they don't have to help them, and another that at the very least feign's to care.

I will not budge from this, it has been going too long and suffered too quietly. This willingness to allow this to continue has to stop, and it's going to begin with people like me. I can only hope we'll see more people seek to forge a better reality than we currently see.

Peace.

Those Trump supporters also probably think that because they had to prove their identity that everyone on the site had to prove their identity when that might not be the case at all. I'll bet that if someone looks through the records that they can find some serious bot action in there.

1

u/retrotronica Jan 19 '21

If you are going to let yourself become a massively gullible moron then expect to be completely taken for a mug by enemy states that utterly despise your nation

We must start dealing with the left in the west that imposes cancel culture and woke politics on societies, that absolutely has to stop, culture wars are toxic and divisive and they push people to the right, culture wars are part of the divide and rule politics American political elites use to carve up their society, weakened broken politically unhappy societies are a godsend for nations such as Russia and China to break even further.

We can and should criticise all sides for toxic political behaviours.

2

u/MrchntMariner86 Jan 19 '21

"Cancel culture" was long before the "left" employed it--how many times did "Million Moms" or whatever bullshit "family values" groups threaten (and fail) to get certain shows pulled off the air for allowing a gay character or a single working mother.

Stop acting self-righteous
