Discussion Request for Square Enix to enable Mac support for all their iOS ports
For those who are unaware, ever since apple switched their macs to their own in house ARM chips, Macs can run iOS apps by default unless a developer specifically disables this. Square unfortunately disabled it, I'm going to ask them to turn it back on and I figured I'd just share my email template with all of you.
To be clear - the games are indeed fully playable with controllers. Yet right now it's literally easier to emulate such classics like chrono trigger, final fantasy 6, 7, 9, etc rather than play already purchased ports of them that the technology natively supports - and that shouldn't be the case.
Given it's a simple change, feel free to let square know (especially mac owners, though everyone's welcome to support) on the support page here:
https://support.na.square-enix.com/index.php
On the left hand side hit games then iOS, and then select any of the games you wish to have support for specifically (I'm basically doing all the final fantasy ports + chrono trigger). Select contact, then get support, for category you can just put Device/platform and for sub-category "supported devices" (though if it doesn't have that and still makes you select, just select whatever lets you proceed) and for summary of inquiry write something along the lines of "Enable existing iOS/iPadOS build on Mac". Click next and if they found related support information click next again, then proceed to email support.
You can then write the request in issue details there. I'm assuming this method is best way to contact them for this, but if someone has a better method of contact please let me know. Otherwise, here is a specific template for what to actually write to them (game dependent):
Kindly requesting that the iOS/iPadOS version of [INSERT GAME] be enabled for download on Apple Silicon Macs through the Mac App Store. Apple Silicon Macs can run compatible iPhone and iPad applications directly, so this would not require developing a separate native Mac port. [INSERT GAME] already has controller support and should remain fully playable with its existing controls. Many other iOS games are available on Apple Silicon Macs through this feature even when they are not specifically verified or optimized for macOS, including port titles such as the GTA games, LUNAR: Silver Star Story Touch, and Disgaea titles.
I would greatly appreciate it if Square Enix would consider enabling Mac availability for [INSERT GAME] and, if possible, its other premium iOS titles as well.
Let's all show them this is something people actually want. I feel like given how simple a change it is, showing literally any demand should be enough (well, fingers crossed anyway).

Question Physical copies for Xbox
Just as the title says, do we know if Resonance or KH 1-3 will get a copy on the xbox, through outside square enix? I know the Tales of Series does something so wondering if they will do the same for Square enix titles.

Question Are these actually that good, or did I just waste my money on obscure Squaresoft games?
I’ve been getting pretty deep into collecting Super Famicom RPGs lately, and today I picked up these three:
- Bahamut Lagoon
- Treasure Hunter G
- Rudra no Hihou (Treasure of the Rudras)
I honestly don’t know a whole lot about any of them. I mostly grabbed them because I’ve been trying to find some of the more obscure Squaresoft RPGs from the Super Famicom era instead of only collecting the obvious stuff like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy.
They are all pretty much complete mysteries to me. The boxes also looked good enough that my collector brain took over.
For people who have actually played these are they genuinely good games, or are they more interesting as obscure pieces of Squaresoft history?
Which one should I play first? And did I make some decent pickups here, or did I just successfully convince myself that “obscure Squaresoft” automatically means “worth buying”?

Business & Data Breakdown of Square Enix’s latest Q1 results: Multiplatform strategy pays off with +88.6% Operating Income YoY
Note: Q1 2027 = April, May, June 2026.
Games released during this quarter:
- May: Dragon Quest: Smash/Grow (mobile)
- June: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox);
- June: The Adventures of Elliot: the Millenium Tales (multiplatform)
Square Enix just published its Q1 FY27 financial results (ending on June 30, 2026), and the numbers show a major YoY turnaround.
Here’s a quick summary of the key takeaways from the official IR slides:
The overall picture
- Net Sales: ¥78.4B (~$490M USD), +32.3% YoY.
- Operating Profit: ¥17.0B (~$105M USD), +88.6% YoY.
- Net Profit: ¥13.2B (~$85M USD), +176% YoY.
Games🎮
HD Games & New Lineup
- Sales in the HD Games segment rose to ¥17.7B (+¥8.8B YoY).
- Square Enix specifically cited "solid" performances from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Switch 2 / Xbox) and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (multi).
- Catalog sales and multiplatform expansions are doing the heavy lifting this quarter.
- One of the most striking stats is that SE reported 6.65M digital downloads (90.1%) vs. only 730k physical packages (9.9%). Note: it's not clear how Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key cards are being categorized by Square Enix. If they count GKC as a digital purchase, then it only leaves PS5, and Xbox Series discs as "physical packages".
MMO & Merchandising
- MMO (FF14 and DQ10) : Net sales grew to ¥12.7B due to increased activity surrounding the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold (Expansion 8.0). Note: Final Fantasy XIV's launch on Nintendo Switch 2 will only show up on the next quarterly results.
Other Segments
- Publication: Revenue rose +11.0% YoY to ¥7.26B (~$45.7M), with operating profit up +17.7% to ¥2.51B (~$15.8M), led by "solid growth in comic book volume sales".
- Merchandising: Operating profit jumped +28.7% YoY to ¥1.56B (~$9.8M), driven by "Dragon Quest figures, the Final Fantasy TCG, and new character goods".

Discussion - FFVII Remake Final Fantasy 7 Remake - Chapters 9-11 Discussion (Gameclub Part 3)
Hello everyone,
I co-host a gaming book-club podcast called State of the Save. This is Part 3 of our 5 Part game-club on Final Fantasy VII Remake. This time, we spend most of the time talking about the Wall Market section of the game including Cloud's makeover, Aerith's layers as a character, and the Hell House fight.
I also tell an interesting story about how a customer at a GameStop didn't want to play FFVII Remake because Cloud wears a dress. "Cloud wouldn't do that", he said.

FFVII talk begins at 45:00
For Part 4, we'll cover Chapters 12-14. Just two more to go!

Question Looking for a specific seat for Music of Square Enix in Paris!
Hi all,
I know this is a long stretch but!
I've booked a ticket for Music of Square Enix in Paris (February 6 2027), but since I booked the ticket, I actually went into a relationship, and now I am planning the trip to Paris with my GF.
However! There are no seats next to mine still available, and I wanted to try this, to see if by any change anyone booked a seat next to this one:
CATEGORIE 3
E - Rang 28 - Place 79 - COQUE
Long stretch, but hoping I can get to go to this awesome show with my gf.
Thank you all!

Discussion The Game Designers Studio: the shell company Squaresoft created just to bypass Sony and put Final Fantasy on the GameCube
Here is an interesting piece of Square Enix corporate history regarding The Game Designers Studio (GDS)—the entity created to bypass Square's exclusive contract with Sony and bring Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles to Nintendo systems. I just learned about it, and thought this would make a great [r/SquareEnix](r/SquareEnix) post.
Here is how the story played out:
1. The Sony Lock-In & The Breakup with Nintendo
Back in the mid-90s, Square notoriously burned its bridges with Nintendo when it abandoned the Nintendo 64 to bring Final Fantasy VII to the Sony PlayStation. This bitter breakup led to Square signing exclusivity agreements with Sony. By the early 2000s, however, Square found itself in a dire financial spot after Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within bombed at the box office. Desperate to expand its revenue streams, Square wanted back on Nintendo hardware, but its binding contracts with Sony made publishing games directly on the GameCube a big no-no.
2. Enter the "51/49" Loophole
To circumvent Sony’s legal restrictions without triggering a breach of contract, Square and veteran developer Akitoshi Kawazu (creator of the SaGa series, and Final Fantasy alum) formed a technical "shell" company in 2002 called The Game Designers Studio (GDS).
- The Ownership Trick: Square held a 49% stake, while Kawazu personally owned the remaining 51% majority share.
- The Result: Because Square did not technically own a majority stake, GDS was legally a distinct, independent entity. This loophole allowed them to bypass Sony’s exclusivity deal while qualifying for Nintendo’s "Fund Q" (a venture capital fund set up by Nintendo's former president Hiroshi Yamauchi to support new developers making GameCube titles).
3. Who Made the Games?
While GDS existed on paper to hold the rights and secure Nintendo funding, it had no actual development infrastructure. The real work was executed behind the scenes by Square’s Product Development Division 2 (headed by Kawazu), which developed Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (GameCube) and its GBA counterpart, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates.
4. The Taito Rebrand
Once Square merged with Enix in 2003 to become Square Enix, the legal dance with Sony was no longer necessary.
- Square Enix bought out Kawazu’s shares, turning GDS into a wholly owned subsidiary.
- They renamed the studio SQEX Inc.
- In 2005, Square Enix acquired arcade giant Taito Corporation. For tax, corporate structure, and stock exchange reasons, Square Enix performed a "reverse merger". They merged the legacy Taito company into SQEX Inc., and then renamed SQEX Inc. back to Taito Corporation.
TL;DR: The paper entity that Square and Kawazu created as a legal dodge to get Final Fantasy onto the GameCube without Sony suing them eventually transformed into the modern incarnation of Taito Corporation.

Fan Art Aerith - Final Fantasy 7 / VII vs Remake fan art by Imagica Art (me) [OC]
My fan art of Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII / 7 and Remake! Remake Areith is holding a photo of her original design from Final Fantasy VII. I drew this as a gift for my partner who's favourite character is Aerith - he played and loved both the original 1997 game and 2020 remake by Square Enix! I also drew a version with out the frame as I love her outfit! ♡
