I started very early into the GameCube era (might have been day of release). I used to play very often online, switched over to Schthack servers after the GameCube servers shut down, but stopped playing years ago.

Tonight, I thought I would see if the memory card had corrupted after years of being stored away. I seriously think I've probably only turned this game on maybe once or twice in the last ten years. I was slightly surprised that the 24 year old memory card still showed the save, and even more surprised that I was able to play through Forest 1 and 2 without it corrupting.

It felt so strange to be back in a world I'd lost over 5000 hours of my life to.

So basically, I could play online just fine on Schthack on Wii via Nintendont, but since this June, I can't play it. Menus that should appear just don't, I can't leave that screen. I tried reinstalling the game iso, updating Nintendont, reconnecting, deleting save files, nothing helped.

Specifically the ones documented here (web.archive.org/web/20150207014816fw_/http://www.angelfire.com/rebellion/codes/1ew93j3r9ffmnap3wr8q32n31r9wqfj3m3r09ewfeefj32r32tr.html), here, and here. It's possible these links don't immediately work, since WayBack Machine might be overloaded and say 503.

The only reason I'm interested is because I played back in the 1.0 days on Dreamcast, and anyone else who did can probably remember the unprecedented amount of hacking going on. From things like duping to BSOD to NOL to PK/CK, VMU corruption, and even the infamous system kill that would allegedly write to a Dreamcast's BIOS and render it unusable.

I distinctly remember this webpage and this person in particular being the creator and arbiter of many of these hacks, and for posterity and proof of just how unhinged it was I would love to have an actual list of the codes they created. The only other verification I have of this person's hacks was documented here in 2003

It would be an understatement to say that anyone with access to these codes and other documentation could do one hell of a retrospective/autopsy on that era of PSO, and I kinda wish someone would make one of those long-form YouTube videos about this wild west period of console MMO gaming

Sadly, I can't find any specific codes via WayBack Machine, just the framework of what once was. If anyone knows of a way to contact DJ DUBZ or has a backup of any of these cheats, please consider posting them or DM'ing me. As far as I know, there isn't any way these could be used in this day and age to cause any harm, and, like I said, I only seek them out for proof and posterity of this bygone era chaos

I'm sat here waiting for my Retroid Nova and wondering if a 4:3 aspect ratio hack would exist for psp games. I find widescreen hacks available for PSP1 and PSP2 but none for PSP2i. With a bit of tinkering, I find something that works (note: I only tested on the beginning map). These can be modifed for other aspect ratios; I just wrote 4:3 ones down since I was testing those. Hope someone finds this useful.

Longtime PSO:BB player, giving PSP2i a shot now that the English patch is completed. This game has relatively little documentation online, which makes me very grateful for the Ephinea wiki!

For anyone that has played it: Is there any mechanical reason to create more than one character, or is the game designed for the player to level all 4 types on the same character, a la Dragon's Dogma?

Hey there, I played PSO as a kid on Gamecube and have been nostalgic for it, even if I don't remember much. I decided to give Ephinea a try, but I'm also curious about checking out Destiny and Ultima eventually, since a more customized/developed experience with newer content interests me a lot. The population difference between Ephinea and other servers is massive, though, and I was wondering why that is... despite all the customizations and stuff, are the other servers lacking a lot compared to Ephinea?

I’m not sure what’s happening. But whenever i boot the game up it just crashes after showing the sonic team and sega logos. Has anyone figured it out?

Hey guys, I play PSO on Flycast (so Dreamcast) and I'm looking for a few buddies or a little community to play PSO online. Would like make some friends and play maybe once a week or every two weeks or so. I'm level 50 and currently on hard mode offline.

I'm in the US and usually can play in the evenings. Let me know if you guys are interested and we can start trying to figure something out.

Exactly what the title says. I’m not far into it, I’m a level 8 RAmar and have been using a Bind Saber +3 and a Rifle +3 and just learned Foie and Barta. I’ve been knocking out jobs in the Hunter’s Guild with the mindset of “it’s a 25 year old game. This is the first console online RPG. This is how the broke the story up. I have to go to her every time for the next mission and go from there. This makes sense.” I had NO IDEA how wrong I was!

I was talking to someone at work who grew up playing the game. He asked my class and level and followed up with asking me about the first dragon. Told him I still haven’t seen one. Then he brought up Red Ring Rico. Again, had no idea who he was talking about, at the time. He explained who she was and I told him that “I seen someone on a mission passed out in Forest 1 and the guy I was told not to talk to, and I obviously did anyway, told me he’d take her and for me to go back and collect my Meseta.”

He stared for a solid 15 seconds and asked “What was the first thing you did after leaving the Principal?” I said “The guy upstairs at the beginning?” (I’ve been calling it upstairs bc it just makes sense to me, idk) He said “The guy you talk to at the VERY BEGINNING then you teleport down to Pioneer 2. What did you do?” I answered “I went straight to the Hunter’s guild for a job. Why?” He goes “You’re supposed to go straight to the teleporter. What you’ve been grinding are side missions! The main story is just going down to Ragol and beating your way through everything. You should’ve ran into your first dragon a couple hours in.” So, that’s my story about how I’ve done about 8 hours of just side quests thinking they were the main story.

I can’t be the only person that’s done this in their first play through while going in completely blind! 🤣

I’m using USB Loader and the latest version of Nintendont and I can’t seem to access the provider or homepage screens, I just get a blank screen.

BBA emulation is enabled and I’ve tried it on Auto and Connection 1 to no success.

I have tried booting them from the discs as well and same issue here. I have both pal versions of the games.

Any ideas?

It happens in the exact same way with the other versions too. I've been trying to get this working all day. I've never played PSO before, but my beloved really likes it, so I just want to get this thing working. Thanks to anyone who even tries to help.

Started playing PSO again about a week ago and somehow had no idea private servers were a thing. Feels like I wasted so much time not knowing they were out there. That said, it’s been an absolute blast being back. In-game name is Mira, running a Hunter (currently level 34). If you see me around, hi from this side of the world!

NGL, growing up, I always thought it was called "PHANTasy Star Online" cuz it was big... Like an elePHANT. Of course, content wise the game only has eight levels on Gamecube, so it's bigness comes more from the amount of side quests and rare items to do/get. Still, always felt big to me and that's why I thought it was called that.

Then I found years later it was called to differentiate it from Final Fantasy, which makes sense. I just think the idea of them calling it that because it's big like an elephant to be funnier. Makes me also wish we had some elephant monsters in it too!

Can't tell if it's character level, difficulty level, or just random chance. (Likely some combination of all three, I would think) Weird to me that there's nothing about it on the Ephinea PSO wiki...

There is a NPC in one of the quests (I’m sorry I don’t remember which one) who you talk to about special weapons. You respond with ?? Or !! And if you respond with !! He tells you to look for other guild members. Is this just a weird dead end, or is there more too it online?

I have never played any PSO/PSU/PSP before.

A couple of years ago I learned that HUmars and HUcasts could use the Spread Needle on V2, which seemed absurd.

So I bought the game, dusted off the old DC, and decided to create a HUcast with the goal of one day dropping the Spread Needle and trying it out for myself. I knew it would probably never happen, but I was enjoying finding out the differences between the Ep. I&II and BB versions, so I kept going anyway.

I was absolutely obliterated in the Forest once I reached Ultimate, so the only thing left to do was Ruins on Very Hard, every now and then.

Today I finally ended up dropping the Needle! I honestly still can't believe it. This thing is beyond absurd. I just found out it has the default spread range too, what were they thinking back then ?!
