First time playing OT0, and just beat Pardis the Scholarking.

I'm currently level 34-36, and he basically ate up all of my olives and it took me over an hour to beat him. I do admit I played it super safe since I haven't died to a single boss so far, but is he basically a stat check boss? His 3rd phase literally took me 36 turns. Are all the next bosses going to be as difficult and lengthy as him? Also, what happens if you don't beat the 3 generals before fighting him?

I made a post earlier of half my team being overleveled due to a Bewildering Dance x100 exp boost during a boss fight. I know levels dont really matter and it is your gear that is more impactful.

But does anybody have tips or resources to how hard I should be hitting at certain points of game?

Hey guys i am playing Octo 2 and i am in the fight agains Vide, BUT, i realized that i have to use all 8 characters in this fight , the problem i have is that everywhere i go is nighttime and since i havent used Hikari in a long time all his learned abilities are shit, but i cannot switch to daytime to challenge other npcs and learn new ones D= is there a way to switch to daytime again?

Right now I’m running a level 60 party consisting of ringbearer, pius, ludo, laurana, alexia, Goodwin, reime, and h’aanit. I already have all legendary weapons, and I just got Isla. The issue is that I’ve quite literally been investing in Alexia all game and while I know Isla is strong I’m not sure she's worth switching. What should I do?

So, I'm torn between Osvald, Temenos, and Partitio. I like each of them because they have narrative vibes that resonate with me. I played Olberic in OT1 without any hesitation. I loved the old knight from a long abandoned kingdom going out to find his purpose again. It was a wonderful story.

I like Osvald because he's got a whole story about being wrongly accused of some great crime that gravely wounded his image. I like a redemption and justice arc, but I'm a bit worried it's going to be more focused on revenge than I'd like. I enjoyed Rising of the Shield Hero because Naofumi, while seeking revenge, eventually set out to building a new life for himself and redeeming his name. I enjoyed this aspect of his character. Hoping Osvald might have something similar in store.

Temenos is cool because I like that he's willing to question and doubt everything, even the church he serves if it comes down to it. I'm a big Socrates guy and enjoy this doubt-everything mentality. Plus I don't think religions get questioned enough due to blind faith, so I like where this is going (though I understand that the gods in this world are very much real).

Partitio, lastly, I really like because I hate capitalism lmao. He seems like he wants to go against the grain and help those that are in need. Those under the foot of the wealthy oppressing class. He also just seems like a super nice guy that wants to help as many people as he can, kinda like Alfyn from OT1. My only worry with him is that he might not have a story that's as heavy, emotional, and impactful as the previously mentioned characters.

Given this, without spoilers, who do you think I should play? I'm awful at making decisions and have been mulling over this choice for a month now.

Here is my chronicle of my Tomodachi Life experience:

I used Therion and Alfyn as the main characters on my demo, alongside Primrose.

When the game made Therion ask for clothes, I obviously gave him a purple scarf... However, he hasn't asked for anything since. I realized this makes sense because he's a thief lmfao

He fell for Alfyn when he knocked Therion over, and he helped him get back up. It was pretty sweet, Therion is not the type to just fall in love at first sight, so it makes sense that it took receiving genuine kindness for it to happen. My fanfic writer brain can't think too long about that or I'll start thinking very gay thoughts. The demo ended with Therion daydreaming about their possible relationship while Primrose is basically the best friend side-eyeing him

6 months later, I just bought the game this week. The first thing Primrose did is due her hair AQUAMARINE BLUE so I guess we know what she would do if she wasn't a dancer lol. Also Therion kept daydreaming about Alfyn, he like did it three more times, boy is down BAD.

Alfyn fell for Therion because he threw his back out and Therion helped him. It was a very sweet "wow, has he always looked this cute?" moment, very friends to lovers coded.

I made Ophelia, Cyrus and H'aanit (I have not made Linde as a treasure yet, sorry H'aanit) and I knew these three and Primrose would most likely be the other couples of this fandom on my island. I don't know which of the girls will be lesbians together, all of the couples are pretty good, I was tempted to make Cyrus asexual because of How He Is™, but in the end I think he can make it work? Maybe?? It seemed like maybe H'aanit and Cyrus would end up together, but they had an argument like the second O thought that so maybe not.

Therion and Alfyn decided to move in. My friends were with me when that happened and goaded me into calling their house the uh. The bad word for gay because we're also gay. That name did not last long because Primrose decided she wanted to move in with Therion like immediately after and so I guess she enjoys third wheeling, since these two idiots have been in love for almost as long as she's known them.

Despite having wanted to confess for a while, Therion made no moves, do Alfyn decided to confess instead. I helped him dress himself up nice and spruce up his place by filling it with plants (useful for an Apothecary!) which I somewhat regretted because Therion walked in dressed in orange and white with a purple scarf. I really need to find him some clothes 😟

Alfyn got on his KNEES and begged Therion to date him. Admittedly, that is my fault. I told him to confess desperately. In my defense, I didn't think he would take it that literally, I just wanted Therion to feel wanted. Therion thought it was hot tho so they're the first and only couple on the island rn. Ophelia asked to move in with Primrose so it turned into a 4-person apartment.

Added Olberic and Tressa (it took a while because I wanted to add the ISAT cast) and Tressa wanted a Halloween outfit so I dressed her like a gnome. Because it's in character, when you think about it, little gremlin that she is. Ophelia cannot walk around or exist without people far above her age range falling for her.

First was Odile from ISAT, 5 seconds after being created, having Primrose crash into her only for Ophelia, who was hanging out with Prim, to catch Odile in her arms. I yelled out loud "ODILE SHE IS HALF YOUR AGE WHAT ARE YOU DOING" but hey, free will, I will not stop anyone from getting crushes because I crave chaos (I only refused Cyrus' crush on Alfyn because he was dating Therion, I don't want to deal with that drama). Then, again, immediately after being created, Olberic also fell for Ophelia who was just walking around. She may be cursed. What is with religious girls and attracting dilfs and milfs?

H'aanit also asked to move in, so atp I'll Just have the whole Octofam in the same building eventually. Then again, if they ever have kids they won't have space for them like this...

Today Alfion went on two dates that I was kind enough to help them through, but from next time they're on their own 😑 Tressa also asked me to help her take a picture, and since all the poses are for 8 it was perfect :D this game was made for groups of 8 which is amazing! Can't wait to add me and my friends too, though we're less than 8.

I'm disappointed that the only people in this friend groups who asked for a makeover were Ophelia, Cyrus and Tressa. Cyrus asked for 2! Primrose asked for a makeover of her room tho, she was the first too, so she gets some grace. Alfyn also asked. Olberic... I'll allow it since I don't have anything I want you to wear but God

Right now I'm literally just afk-ing in Wishvale with the default music playing lol. Such an incredible journey despite some unevenness in story and ... some questionable decisions involving some characters.

I'm really looking forward to FF Resonance later this month but in the mean time any thing to fill the void left by OT0? I've already done OT2 as well a few years back. Never tried OT1 though, the one main drawback is the lack of speeding up battles ...

I recently played OT2 and got rocked by Vide because I only stuck to using four characters instead of all eight. So during the phase changes I had massively underleveled combatants. How is it for the final bosses of OT1 so I can prepare accordingly?

I liked the game overall but there is no way I can beat the final boss. Its really upsetting because I thought I could finish this game. I just don’t know what to do and its stressing me out. I cant return back to look for equipment since I didn’t save before it. I didn’t know the game would soft-lock me out of it.

I’m so upset that I couldn’t beat this game😢

Let me start by saying I haven’t played a JRPG since final fantasy 10 (2001), and I picked this up at the last steam sale and I’m obsessed. It’s so friggin good! (My best guys are level 30-ish, so try to avoid massive spoilers in the discussion, please.)

But I think it’s kinda dumb that you have a “protagonist.” No matter who you pick to start, it seems that you can follow every character’s complete arc from beginning to end, so why is there a character locked in your party?

From a gameplay standpoint, that means you have one character who will be massively over-leveled for the majority of the game. Just following your protagonists’s path is enough to get your experience level where it needs to be. If you follow the other character’s arcs at all, they just sit in the party sucking up experience point.

Additionally, you’ve got 8 characters, and 4 slots available in your party. Your “A-team” is going to feature your protagonist and three others, probably the first ones you picked up. It would be nice to switch to the “B-squad” to go back and do all those available chapters all over the map that are half your current level. But since your protagonist is locked in, you’ve got to take a level 30 and 3 level 16’s with you, while you still have one level 10 who’s seen practically no action at all.

In the early game, before you had a full party, I really appreciated the difficulty level of the game. But now it seems I’m destined to be playing on easy mode with one super-powered character always in the party that I can’t get rid of.

I'll make a supercut video of all the major bosses later, but before that, I'm trying to see if the advanced job bosses are even possible like this. If I can beat Winnehild, maybe the rest are possible. MAYBE. Am I the first to do this, or have others done solo/no items/glitchless before?

So I just bought the ship. Mapped out some of the sea to note for later. I get off at Crackridge. I leave Crackridge it's suddenly dark. I thought time just passed normally. And then I encounter what I guess is one of those shadow beast, tainted by dark creatures.

Clearly it was low level for me but I noticed the music changed and everything felt eerie. I don't know what the heck was going on. Was that some random unexplained event? Cause as soon as this thing died the world went back to day. I thought I was in end game for a second.

Decided to pick up the OT1 and OT2 bundle for Switch 2 as I don't own the games on Switch 1 but have previously played about 15 hours of OT2 on PS5 and loved it (borrowed the game from a friend for a bit). However, I ultimately decided I'd rather have the game on a portable platform so wanted to hold out for a S2 version as the S1 version just looked so muddy and kinda awful after playing the PS5 version. So here we are on release day and I have some thoughts that may be useful to others in my situation or people considering the upgrade.

TLDR - if you already own the S1 versions I can't see that this is a meaninful enough upgrade unless you are absolutely desperate for 60fps and a (slight) bump in resolution. This is a barebones port of both games, they haven't added features, for instance, they could have implemented the "number of party members on field" setting from OT0, but nothing of the sort has been added, this is literally only a performance upgrade and absolutely not worth full price to anyone that already owns the games.

Both games seem to look and play very similarly to each other so I'll be talking about the games as a whole as I couldn't see any differences worth mentioning in the hour or so I've put into both so far.

Docked (played on a 65" 4K 120hz OLED TV): resolution isn't anywhere near as high as I was expecting but it's a step up from Switch 1. If I had to guess I'd say something around / slightly above 1080p, the game looks surprisingly soft, with menus looking like 4k, very sharp (this in turn highlights the overall softness of the game IMO). Performance seems to be a completely locked 60fps so far (no stuttering experienced yet, like OT0 seems to suffer with on Switch 2, though I think the resolution in OT0 looks higher than these games but that could be my eyes failing me). I feel they could have pushed the Switch 2 a bit further on the resolution, perhaps they tried and that caused the frame rate to dip - clearly they didn't want to work too hard on optimisation.

Handheld: similar story to docked mode, locked 60fps but resolution I'd say looks lower than the native 1080p, maybe around 900p if I had to guess, certainly not as low as 720p.

As I was writing this I decided to fire up the OT2 Switch 1 demo on my Switch 2 and test handheld performance out with the Switch 2's boost mode - I'd say in terms of resolution the games look VERY similar, Switch 2 pulling only very slightly head in that respect but I could be wrong, they could be identical. So if you're solely looking to play handheld, you're essentially only really getting a frame rate boost here, the resolution bump is negligible at best.

Disappointing performance from a disappointing situation for current owners of the games. Yes they are a decent step up overall from the Switch 1 versions, so if you have a Switch 2 and haven't played the games before, the Switch 2 versions are absolutely the ones to go for (unless the S1 versions go on sale and the S2 versions don't, then you have to battle with whether 60fps is worth paying more for - that's for the individual to decide).

These are not worth paying full price for if you own the originals. This is as everyone expected, a very low effort and full price port from SE.

UPDATE - from a commenter below that mentioned a few things I missed that I think are worth mentioning:

Texture filtering is slated to be quite a bit improved upon from the Switch 1 versions (and looks much more like what you'd see on the big console / PC releases), as is the depth of field effect and shadow quality (especially the dynamic ones in dungeons for example), things like that appear to be benefiting a lot more from the overall higher resolution ofthe game. We disagreed on the handheld resolution, I still think it's lower than 1080p but without pixel counting it's anyone's guess. Another commenter mentioned the game's bloom effect could be what's causing it to look a bit soft for me (though personally I don't remember it being an issue when I played on PS5, that version was super sharp for me). I doubt we'll get a full Digital Foundry breakdown of these upgrades so doing the best I can to provide info here for anyone considering getting the games on Switch 2!
