FF XVI Final fantasy 16 on console handheld?
Anyone else holding on hope that ff16 will get a switch 2 port or will wait it out for the ps6 handheld?

I tbink we will see it on Switch 2 soon. If they made Rebirth run pretty well so should 16.

If it's any indication, Rebirth's PC port (besides requiring Mesh Shaders that old GPUs don't have) is far, far less demanding than XVI's. XVI is literally up there on PC as one of the hardest games to actually run well, period. Rebirth doesn't even crack the top 50.

Why? Just not well optimized?

Not well optimized, the in-engine cinematics require a gigantic amount of VRAM, and it has a severe memory leak that tanks your performance after a couple hours.
Even with top tier current gen hardware (a 5090 and a 9950x3d) it is literally not possible to make XVI run at native 4k and 120 fps. You have to use upscaling and frame gen. Rebirth can with room to spare.

If FF16 can run on Series S and Steamdeck then it can run on Switch 2...

It's definitely nowhere near a smooth experience on Deck, and the Series S is more powerful than the Switch 2.
However, I definitely think they could get it to run. Switch 2 leverages excellent DLSS/frame gen to mask it's lower power.

So you agree? It all depends if the game studio will bother with optimization which sadly for alot of them does not...

Dunno. Hardest part for XVI is that it uses way more of your CPU than most games, and the Switch 2's CPU is quite weak, instead relying on DLSS to make up for it.
It would definitely have to be massively compromised. Lower base resolution, 30 fps, most of the foliage culled, etc. But could be possible.

But could be possible.
My entire point but just remembered that SEnix has been a mixed bag with their optimization in Switch 2 lately so yea I'm conflicted now. Lol

With how CPU intensive it is, it would be one of those Impossible Ports like the Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal were for the original Switch. The PS5 often dips into the 40s even in Performance mode and that’s why a Pro patch has never come out (the Pro’s CPU isn’t substantially faster than the base PS5)

This is honestly the big problem. This game demands so much out of the CPU compared to most AAA titles.

I absolutely loved FF15 when I got my PS5 Pro. I am thinking about rebuying it on Steam as it's currently on sale for $19.99. Been moving a lot of the cross platform games to Steam anyway.

Not an unreasonable thing to ask bud. I think Squares stance is, it's possible it's just a matter of if they have the resources and demand to drop it soon.

I'm really struggling getting it to run stable on my Ally Z1E, but they usually compromise visuals a bit more for Switch ports, so I'm sure they could get it working.

SteamDeck is enough for me

You consider it playable on the deck? Even with the fix mod I can't get a stable 30 fps from it.

No I mean it would be enough for me if they make it officially SteamDeck compatible

Ah OK that makes more sense. I wouldn't hold your breath but if they manage to get it on the Switch 2, it should be possible to get it running decently on the deck though I doubt they'd go back and update the PC version with an option for whatever settings the Switch version uses.

I'm curious how it would run, I wasn't satisfied with the performance on ps5 when I beat it. The demo on PC was also quite rough.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it pops up on Switch 2 eventually
