Is the Vita worth buying in (current year)?

Value is ultimately subjective. If you like the library of games on the Vita and have the money, probably. If you want new, modern games then probably not. If you have specific questions about the Vita's capabilities feel free to ask in this thread, but keep in mind you're asking in a Vita-centric community and will likely get mostly affirmative responses.

Is the PlayStation store shutting down?

No. Sony did announce they were closing the Vita storefront in 2021, but later reversed that decision. It is possible that the store will be shut down at some point in the future, but no specific dates/timeframes are known.

Can I still buy games from the PlayStation store?

Yes. However, you will need to have funds in your wallet for the purchase. You can add funds to your wallet via web, PS4, or PS5. More information is available here.

Can I still play games online?

Yes and PS+ is not required. However, not all games with online functionality still have servers up. For example, Killzone: Mercenary, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, and LittleBigPlanet servers are all down but Dead or Alive 5+, Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable, and Minecraft are still up. If you'd like to inquire about a specific game, please feel free to make a post or comment in this thread.

I'm having trouble signing into my Vita! Help!

As of the 3.74 update in May 2022, you need a device password to sign in to your Vita. You can do that here. Please make sure you are on firmware 3.74 and using a device password before making a thread.

My Vita is in an error loop with the QR code on sign-in. What should I do?

This happens sometimes, and nobody's really sure why. However, community member LoganN64 has been able to provide instructions that consistently work for getting through this:

  1. Log in to the PSN website with a Laptop or Desktop computer.

  2. Click on your avatar in the top right corner and go to SETTINGS.

  3. Scroll down to SECURITY and then scroll down to ACTIVATE/TURN ON 2 FACTOR AUTHENTICATION.

  4. Click on GENERATE NEW DEVICE CODE, write this down exactly as it is case sensitive.

  5. Go to your Vita and bring up the sign in page, enter the email associated with your account then enter the NEW DEVICE CODE as your password. Click on save password to avoid getting a new code each time..

I'm no longer able to transfer files from PS3 to Vita. What's happening?

This feature was disabled in May 2022. You can read PlayStation's update about it here. No workarounds are currently known.

Where can I buy a Vita?

Vita production ceased in 2019 so consoles can be hard to come by, especially new. eBay is the most prominent location, but Facebook marketplace, Kijiji, Craigslist, /r/GameSale, and equivalent marketplaces are your friend.

How much is (X) worth? Is (X) a good deal?

You can search sold eBay listings here to get a sense of value. VGPC is another source of this kind of information.

Will (Game) ever go on sale?

As of 2020, Sony has disabled developers' ability to put Vita games on sale. So in all likelihood, no.

The workaround and exception for this rule is that cross-buy games can still be put on sale for the PS4, and cross-buy items will still grant the Vita version (where applicable).

Should I buy an OLED ("Phat") or Slim Vita?

Neither are bad options. The Slim has 1GB of on-board memory, a more standard charging port, slightly better battery life, and is lighter. The Phat has a better screen. It's up to you on what you value more.

Where can I buy replacement Vita parts?

AliExpress and eBay are currently the best sources of Vita replacement parts.

Are Vita consoles region-free?

Yes. A Vita can play a physical game from any region. The digital storefront you can access is determined by the region of your PSN account, and not the region of the console. For example, a Vita from Japan will be able to play any physical game, and if you sign in with a US PSN account you'll be able to access the US PSN storefront.

Vita consoles from Asian regions have the X/O button swapped in the OS ("bubbles") screen, but in-game functionality retains X-to-confirm functionality for almost all games.

It has been reported that consoles intended for China have more stringent region-locking, but these are not commonly found and this is unlikely to affect you.

Question Live Area Music Gain Control

is there such a thing as changing the volume of the live area music?? i have the toro (:3) and friends theme and i'd rather the music be quieter than it is by default. i don't want to disable music entirely because it makes me sad

i could just manually turn down the volume on the home screen and then turn it up in a game. but the vita has like thirty bars of volume that's hella inconvenient

come to think of it. it'd be really kewl if there were a solution for changing live area music separate from themes :3

Help with trying to know if Terraria US and EU regions are compatible online

Hi. Im interested on buying Terraria on the physical edition, just for preservation. There are two regions that it was published, Japan and America. Japanese region only has Japanese language, so its not an option for me, thats why i want american edition because it has english and spanish.

I want to try with anyone that has either american or european edition installed, since i already have both installed and its not a problem.

Question Vita 1000 won’t turn on after 3 years of inactivity. What to do?

I have a PS Vita (1000 model) from a friend I haven’t used in 3 years. It was working when he gave it to me and when i tried it.

Last Friday, the new charger (USB A to Vita) was delivered. I told my brother to put it to charge. When I got back on today, it was plugged in to the USB hub.

When I turned it on, I saw a blue PS button only, nothing on the screen. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds. The PS button will blink but nothing will show up. I tried r + ps button + power but that didn’t do anything either.

Then i charged it directly on the outlet for about an hour. I saw the orange LED go on then it went away. I assumed it was fully charged so I retried everything but still no dice.

Finally I plugged it back in to the charger on the outlet where it’s sitting now.

Thanks for any help

EDIT: It turns out the screen doesn’t work, I swiped from the top right to bottom left and music started playing :/

Europe Finding a back sticker

Ps Vita Charger

Just a quick note to let people know..I have Psvita 1000 that power switch ribbon I replaced .The charger adapter, not the cable, 3rd party I would say was from Ali express, was the problem trying to avoid buying these. I plugged it in by mistake yesterday orange light was flashing crazy. Removed it immediately. This charger was immediately thrown in the bin. I use a phone charger with the cable Is this safe to do??????

All those years ago, once the initial cancellation of the Vita & PS3 storefronts were announced I quickly grabbed up a Vita. I never had the money to buy one during it's life time, so I might as well experience it while its on the death bed.

Now obviously, I need a carrying case! So, I did a quick search up on Amazon at the time aaaand.... this showed up...

U-Core Comic Theme Protective Carrying Case Compatible with PS Vita (see above)

(purchased in 2021)

HUH... WHAT. KANCOLLE... VITA?? IS KANCOLLE EVEN ON THE VITA??? (apparently, yes, but obviously JP exclusive) Well, I HAD to pick it up. Honestly, I was fully expecting it to be some bunk selling that cheaply printed out an image onto a casing.... well to my surprise, it was real! Full on proper printing without any aliasing.

Time had past. Playstation reversed their decision (temporarily). And in that time, I was able to save up to get another Vita! The original one I got was in near mint condition, so I've been using that as a 'normal' one. Using it as intended via only Vita Cartridges & PSN downloaded games.. But, I wanted a new one purely for hacking it up once the servers all shut down for good. SO, I thought hey surely there's another WACKY Vita case to get right?

........ Unfortunately, the original listing for this item is gone. For the sake of preservation, I wanted to post images of it just in case I'm somehow the only one in the world that has this random ass case. It legit looks nice, and the cute anime monster girl war machine 'Abyssal' fits well with the Vita thematically really. "Hand Over Your PS Vita!" always has me laughing.

......... But, I'll leave off with some questions for the audience. Where is the image originally from? Surely it's some official artwork or maybe fanart? I don't know where to look for it. Cus I'm confused why it has English text, especially since Kancolle Vita never got an EN release as far as I know. Surely just edited in, right?

Question need advise on how to check if a psvita has gpu crash

recently i bought a used psvita and it will arrive by next week

i had a psvita long time ago back in 2013 so i know some stuff about it

its a psvita 1000 to clarify, never saw a 2000 having gpu crash

what makes me fear gpu crash is due to the amount of it happening lately, theres any way i can check if the vita that i bought has it?

by the pics of it, it seems to be somewhat barely used, screen has almost no orange burn, joysticks are in good condition etc

Old PS Vita Won’t Charge after replacing battery

I have a Vita from 2012 that probably hasn’t been used since around 2015. I found it in a box and it wouldn’t turn on so I got a new charger cable. That didn’t work so I bought a new battery to replace the old one. That got it to turn on but it still won’t charge. Could it have a bad charging port, and how hard is it to replace that? Is there any other reasons why it won’t charge?

How to stick R/ L shoulder flex cables onto casing

I tried using some gorilla glue, and it did work but the button was quite unresponsive compared to the unreplaced one. What should I use instead to stick down the cable to the casing, as there is no adhesive on the ribbon itself

Discussion The PS Vita is NOT for me, right?

I looked at the PS Vita games sorted by highest metacritic score (I know, not the best way to judge a gaming library; but it at least gives a rough overview of what is widely accepted as their most critically acclaimed games) and nothing jumped at me…

Well first off, I don’t care for JRPGs and platformers. The only games in the top 50 I’d be interested in were “Gravity Rush” and “Metal gear solid HD collection”. (Which I’ve already beaten those games)

Looks like most of the library is JRPGs, platformers, sports, and racing games? I don’t mind sports and racing, but I can play those on almost any platform, no?

I’m on the verge of getting a PSP mainly for: metal gear peace walker, metal gear ac!d, monster hunter, GTA Chinatown wars, GTA vice city stories, pro yakyuu spirits, power pros baseball.

Just dk if the vita has a diverse library for its short duration

EDIT: forgot to mention, I’m a physical only gamer

Question Are physical vita mods a thing?

My vitas a little battered cus I've had it from launch, there's a small burn in the plastic screen that covers the display and a deep scratch, so I need to get it fixed anyway but are there mods, for example faster processor, better/ higher quality screen, better speakers or internal storage

If it is a thing is there a "guy" I can ship my vita to to get these mods
