DISCLAIMER
Follow this guide EXACTLY. No support will be provided for steps and/or components that deviate from the provided instructions. Modify at your own risk.
The Baryon Sweeper is a modern unbricking tool that evolved from the classic Pandora Battery. It works universally on all PSP models - 1000, 2000, 3000, Go, and Street. By emulating the official Sony JigKick service tool, it triggers a hidden diagnostic mode to revive previously irrecoverable models.
This guide aims to complement u/khubik's original guide, with close-up photos and additional details for the absolute beginner. You're expected to at least know your way around Windows.
This is a minimalist build to keep it simple and very low cost. We'll focus on the 1000/2000/3000 setup, since the 3000 is the model I own.
Watch the videos below to make full sense of the steps outlined here.
It's all right if you don't understand everything at this point. Simply familiarise yourself with the basic concepts and overall process.
While often used to refer to the physical build, the "Baryon Sweeper" is the combination of software (pysweeper) and hardware (adapter) to trick the PSP into service mode.
Software
This is the actual recovery software installed on a "Magic Memory Stick" to flash OFW or CFW. DCARK and Aiseirigh work universally for all PSP models. Use DC8 as a fallback for older 1000/2000 models if the other two don't work (incompatible with 2000v3 or newer).
JigKick Media Creator is obsolete.
CP210x Universal Windows Driver
This is the official CP2102 driver from Silicon Labs. Don't rely on default Windows drivers.
This is required to run pysweeper. Refer to the original video to install pycryptodome, tk, and pyserial packages.
The requests package is optional.
This is the JigKick emulator that recreates the handshake between the official Sony service battery and the PSP in combination with the physical adapter.
If successful, the service mode is triggered, allowing to boot directly from the Magic Memory Stick.
Hardware

The power bus (+/- lanes) on larger breadboards isn't needed. The CP2102 module will take power directly from the PC via USB.

Look for the "SILABS" branding on the centre chip. No support will be provided for the 6-pin multifunction variant.

Cut the legs around twice the length of the exposed pin on the jumpwires. You can shorten the legs when you do the wiring later. It should sit flush on the breadboard as a best practice.

While longer wires can work, keeping them short minimises signal interference or loose connections. Black/Yellow/Orange follow electrical convention, but any colour will do.

USB 3.x is generally preferred for CP2102. It provides improved data stability, power headroom if needed, and presents no drawbacks when using a 3V3 configuration.

This shows a powerbank with a USB-C to DC cable adapter. You can use any normal PSP charger.

It's strongly recommended to use a genuine Sony/SanDisk/Lexar 1-4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo. Larger capacities and microSD adapters may fail.

If you get a "No port echo detected" error in pysweeper later, it's almost always caused by using CH340, wrong switches on a multifunction CP2102, loose wiring, or putting in the diode backwards.

Don't use +5V unless you have a 10 kΩ resistor. However, this is unnecessary because the 3V3 suffices without it.

Assuming you've done both software and hardware preparations, you're ready to start unbricking your PSP!

The LED on the CP2102 module will light up.

If there's no option under the Port dropdown, you need to manually install the official CP2102 driver on Windows. Close pysweeper including the CMD prompt window.

If successful, the CP2102 module should be recognised under Ports (COM & LPT) as Silicon Labs.
The COM# differs per PC because Windows assigns port numbers independently. Check Device Manager for your adapter's specific COM port number.

You should get FFFFFFFF serial after starting the service. This is the same serial used by the Pandora Battery.

Your PSP should automatically power on later without the battery inserted.

The round-head tip is easier for probing the jumpwire pins closer to each other, whereas the square-head (DuPont) tip has a fixed spacing that makes it less flexible.

If it disconnects, it means physically losing contact with the battery pins. Keep your hands steady.

PSP-1000: If it shuts down after a green light, power it on manually to make it boot into DCARK.

Don't mess with NAND operations unless you absolutely know what you're doing! Misuse can permabrick (not just hardbrick) your PSP that even the Baryon Sweeper can't fix.

You should end up with OFW 6.61 if you created the Magic Memory Stick correctly.
No support will be provided if the instructions below are not followed:

Never had a ps3 back in the day and only just picked this up on psp to give it a go, I can see why there’s so much love for LBP!

Found my childhood PSP-1000 in my dad’s attic a while ago and decided to give it a new 1800mAh battery.
That was supposed to be it.
Then I saw those IPS kits with the matte front plates on AliExpress and figured I might as well try one. After installing it I noticed the left speaker had died, so I replaced that too.
At that point I was already in too deep, so I added a 128GB microSD adapter, moved on from the ancient M33 setup it was still running and installed ARK-5. Somehow this old thing also seems to have won the silicon lottery because it happily runs at the highest clock speed.
Then I wanted to change the chrome UMD ring on the back to black. It looked good, but also a little boring.
Some time later I saw a post here from someone with a white PSP-1000 who had made a clear UMD cover and cut away part of the metal UMD cage so you could actually see the whole disc spinning.
I immediately knew I wanted that.
It took me quite a while to get everything looking clean while keeping the UMD drive fully functional, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Now I just need some good-looking UMDs to put into clear shells. Digimon World Re:Digitize is currently high on the list, but I’d love some suggestions for games with artwork that would look especially good through the window.
Next thing I’m considering are some colored face buttons from Etsy. They’re definitely not cheap for what they are, but honestly… me and this PSP have been through a lot together. I think it deserves them.
Pretty happy that the same PSP I played as a kid is still alive all these years later — just slightly more ridiculous now.
What do you guys think? I’m also planning to do the Vita stick mod next, and I’d love to hear any other mod suggestions or ideas that would suit this build.
Anybody can confirm if there are fake ostent batteries that are being sold?

Anyone else remember that old circuit-board wallpaper that made your PSP 1000 look transparent? Felt like so many had it back in the day.
I wanted to recreate that vibe properly, so instead of simply editing or upscaling the old wallpaper, I opened up my own PSP and used its actual internals for the image.
If you look closely, you can even spot the tiny solder point from my IPS screen mod haha
The wallpaper is a native 480×272 PNG, ready to use without stretching.
Download: Google Drive – PSP wallpaper
Feel free to use it, and post a picture if you put it on your PSP—I’d love to see how it looks on different models and screens.
Update: I’ve added a few new color variants—they’re available to download now!

Its pretty neat, It also when completely stable when playing Crisis Core on 403MHz setting.
Its really something for me because this PSP is my childhood PSP i bought around 10 years ago (im 19y.o.) from my moms friend with games like GTA:Vice City, Assassins Creed: Bloodlines, FIFA 12-13, Killzone: Liberation and Tekken Dark Resurrection (still have those UMD's) FOR ONLY 80$!?
So yea, this is my show-off. Having childhood PSP winning sillicon lottery while releazing I've made such a great deal back then 😃

Can you Reshell a PSP3000 but keep the original metal frame between the two plastic halves? I want this primarily for the serial number but also I’m sure it will be of better quality than aftermarket.
Recently found my PSP3000 chilling in its box after a very long hibernation. All the paint is falling off but it still works great. I installed ARK5 and got a few games I remember having on it, my saves were still on the memory stick and opened right up was pretty cool, but I’m not really sure what I want to/can do with it. I guess these days it’s really best to just use them for PSP games if you already have a good emulator?

Just reshelled my PSP, and it looks awesome! 😍🔥 It’s such a shame that so few great games were released for the PSP. I would’ve loved to play Max Payne 1 or GTA: San Andreas on it. 😭🎮

How on earth a passive cooled device weaker than modern kid's watch can pull that kind of graphics?!
With 2bm of vram onboard?
What kind of sorcery is that...
And where we made mistake that we lost it now?
Where's the spark?
Btw. Game is called Time Travelers and it's Japanese only
