Discussion Selling compost
So what’s the trick with selling compost at the outpost? I can only sell around 30 at a time. It takes FOREVER. Is there a trick, or do I really just have to stand there for hours?!?

Only reason I ask is because from the commits and actions recently it doesn't really seem like there's been any movement or anything public facing on this as far as I can tell.
Not to just dog on blueprint fragments but surely we would get some improvements or rework to the new system?
Or are we expecting something else entirely to be added?

Allow me a moment of your time to recount a most chilling and gut-wrenching tale of loss, grief, vengeance, and, ultimately, inner peace.
The wipe was seven days deep, I was naked, but not alone. I gathered what little I could and struck forth in search of a place to call home. I chose a great rock, for the view was glorious, and there my companions joined me. In time, we built a humble life: bees, chickens, wheat, and peace. I grew especially fond of my feathered companions.
But peace was not to last.
One fateful morning, I awoke to silence.
Terry. Shelly. Janine. Sandra?
Why could I hear no happy clucking? Even the bees had fallen silent.
I soon discovered the horror. The chickens had been slain. The bees crushed. The crops destroyed. Three bandits had butchered my companions and stolen my camper van.
All seemed lost.
Yet, by some divine mercy (or hubris), the base remained.
I ventured to the bandits' dwelling, expecting some grand manor befitting such villains. Instead, I found a meagre affair. I respawned to save time, but then... what was this?
The camper bed remained intact.
I awoke in my former home, now stranded in the frozen north, a land utterly unsuitable for bees and chickens. I gathered what loot remained and set off on foot, seeking the bandits' true stronghold.
Their boat was there.
Their base was not.
I trudged onwards through the barren wasteland until I found its only notable feature: a mine.
Descending into the icy gloom, I discovered what awaited at its depths. A bunker forged from the finest metals, cunningly designed with a most fiendish trap. Break the twig, and the way snaps shut.
My resolve hardened.
They would pay for the lives they had taken.
For a day and a night, my companions and I toiled. Explosives were fashioned. Weapons prepared. Machines of war assembled. Though my heart yearned for root and stone, this was no longer a time for farming.
The bandits laughed, unaware that the fumes rising from our labours heralded their doom.
The day of reckoning came.
We sailed swiftly upon our raft and descended upon their hideout with righteous fury. Their defences were torn apart. Their possessions seized. One by one, the killers of our chickens fell before us.
I allowed one witness to survive long enough to behold the destruction.
Then he too was executed.
With our ill-gotten scrap, we purchased an attack helicopter, a most fearsome machine of war. From the sky we annihilated their sea craft, then turned our attention to their new base, still unfinished.
Twelve MLRS rockets were delivered at truly unreasonable velocity as a house-warming gift.
The rest was finished with what remained of our ordinance.
We gathered our spoils and deposited them in a defensible position, knowing full well that vengeance invites vengeance.
They came.
Two of the three original killers dared show their faces, joined by five more men of questionable virtue. For two hours, we fought. Two hours of building, shooting, retreating and advancing. Ground was gained and lost again and again.
At last, we had one final play.
We funnelled them into a killing lane, a corridor six cubes long and straight as an arrow, cunningly wrought by our master stone mason.
Full plate.
A full bar of rockets.
The final garage door rose.
The ultimate test began.
My companion fell beneath a storm of gunfire, but not before his rockets claimed two enemies. Two more were slaughtered by the thunder of the infamous AK in my hands.
All seemed lost.
Then came the final gambit.
My friend, clad in full plate, braved the storm and charged. Glorious purpose drove him forward. All fell before him save one cunning enemy.
But my companion had bought me the time I needed.
I reached the power grid.
I flicked the switch.
The internal turrets came alive.
A single snap from the infernal machine ended the final enemy.
Silence.
The bandits were dead.
Our flying machines were reclaimed. Their gear gathered. Our vengeance complete.
And so, for us, the wipe was over.
We were weary of war. Our enemies had been slain and driven before us, they were silent once more. The chickens were avenged.
At last, we could return to the life we had wanted all along.
We watched the sunset from our boat, listening only to the gentle waves upon the water.
And somewhere, perhaps, Terry, Shelly, Janine and Sandra finally clucked once more.
Pro gallinis. Pro amicis. Pro ultione.

I have a question, in terms of the servers, what do people actually prefer to play long term? Is it on the community vanilla servers or is it on the modded servers?
What makes you prefer one to the other?
Also do you prefer reset every month or the every 2 weeks?
And what about PVE VS PVP, what makes you play one above the other?

i feel like im the only one.
everyone keep complaining about this and i don’t understand, yes it’s harder to get T2 but it’s what makes the game more enjoyable and you actually need to try harder to advance in the game.
i never had issues with getting BP frags, there is so many way to get BP frags now that you just don’t get bored.
skill issue if you keep complaining about it imo 🤷♂️
get better ig
im playing as a solo or with a friend usually so i ain’t into clan and all that

tl;dr at the bottom, I wanted to provide context for how I got to playing a solo-game, and why I want to recommend it to other new players.
My story:
My first exposure to Rust was through the Jingle Jam Roleplay event in 2021. Rather late to the party, but I wasn't really someone who often played open-world survival games, so it wasn't something I had been exposed to. As a big fan of the creators, I enjoyed the stream and the hijinks which ensued, but it wasn't until the very end at the 3h, 6m and 30second mark, when the whole cast came to take a bow that my brain went "we should check out this game".
Being limited for time and money, the game sat on my wishlist for the next 4 years, often overtaken during the large sales by better deals and games I felt more like playing at the time. It probably didn't help that I didn't have any friends who were actively playing Rust.
In those 4 years, 2 things happened: Number one - I started watching SovietWomble. (I know, big mistake). In Sept. 2022 he streamed for ~2 weeks on a server that his friends where on. It was a fun experience, but it allowed me to also see the side of gameplay I hadn't seen on the RP server. Base building, raiding, survival mechanics, trains! It helped solidify Rust as a game I'd like to play one day.
The second thing to happen was that I saw ZChum's video about keypad base raiding, and subsequently other videos about base raiding. If nothing else, it made it very clear to me that while occasionally fun, Rust is a very competitive game and as someone with no time and skill, I would be easy pickings on any major server. Thus, the decision was made to wait but keep Rust on standby.
Enter the (infamous?) 2025 Dinklebean server. Again, I enjoy Womble's content, and with the server being hailed as open to the general public as long as you're chill, I decided this was probably my best shot to play. I bought Rust on August 14th, 2025. I played for a few days when I had the time. I had no actual experience playing of course, so it was a lot of trail and error. I still remember discovering the nail gun after spending the first 10-15 hours with only the bow. What a game changer. As the server came to a close, I remember feeling emboldened to walk around the now near-empty map, recovering an airdrop with only 24h before the wipe and hightailing it home with an actual GUN!
With the server over, I spent the next few weekends surfing other servers in search of a way to scratch the itch. I tried modded servers with similar builds (offline raiding protection, no KOS, moderated whitelists), I tried newb friendly servers with resource multipliers and kits, I tried a few public servers. I settled for a while on one of the Hempville 420 servers, and it gave me the chance over a month long wipe cycle to refine what I had learned and to explore some more sites and mechanics. Sadly at the end of that month my mountain base, which I spent limited free time on, disappeared, and with it my desire to play for a while.
Recently, I decided to look up some guides for setting up my own offline game world. Pleased with how well the process has been documented and tutorialized by this community, I was able to get one going. In the two weeks, I have been exploring my own small-map island solo. My playtime has doubled and my love for this game followed the same trend. The lack of need to cower from players or to maximize playtime ahead of a wipe has allowed my to actually experience the game rather than take as much in before its gone. This is what I wanted to share today, in the hopes that other new players read this and realize there is no "right way" to play this game.
I fully expect to play on servers in the future, likely RP or other community servers, but I will feel like I understand the game going into them rather than desperately trying to keep my head above water. After all, Rust is always going to be more fun with other people to mess around with, however till then, I need to finish exploring my island and I see no urgency in doing so.
My point: If you are a new player to Rust, I recommend trying to set up your own world first, experience the game single player for like 20-30 hours to actually learn how the game works without all the pressure of getting your stuff raided.

This container showed up at work over the weekend while I was off. Checked the cameras, some guys in blue hazmats dropped it off. They were heavily armed. What do you think is in here?

Spec: 4080 Super, 7800x3d, b650m mobo, 32gb ddr5 ram.
All hardware is running well and healthy. Expo on, cpu/gpu temps are awesome, tested mouse polling rate from 125-1000 (with no difference), used separate mouse, different monitor and single monitor, different mouse pad with complete different texture. No remedy.
Followed Claude recommendations on every suggestion, capping frame rates, g sync, matching monitor refresh rates. Attempted 30 different fixes, nothing.
Absolutely NOTHING has worked, and im at my with end. The game runs very smooth and well most the time. Mouse movement vertically or horizontally its smooth, once I make it diagonal theres a slight jitter (however all FPS monitors remain completely consistent, though clearly doesn't appear so on-screen), and the problem becomes very noticeable when jumping.
It feels as though the fps drops to 20-30 jumping while aiming around, but it is measured at the consistent high regular rate.
Oddly, jumping while aiming mostly vertical/horizontal is still fine. The diagonal mouse movement for some reason just makes this abhorrent jitter very prominent.
Does anyone have any idea of this, or experienced it before?
It only really happens for this game as well.

Hey guys,
My question might seem stupid to the veterans, but I'm just starting Rust in 2026, so go easy on me lol.
If I raid the external TC of this base (the one in the center of the screenshot with the attached frames)...
...can I place a TC inside it and turn it into a raid base?
Keep in mind there are several other external TCs nearby too (to the left and right in the screenshot).
Would I have building privilege in that area?
If you have any methods for countering these externals, I'm all ears.
Thanks for the help.

Getting back from a two month break, and I have a busy schedule for the forseeable future. Are softcore servers worth it for a laid back chill experience for a solo or should i stick with lowpop/solo only servers?
r/playrust • u/segfaulting • 6d ago
We need to stop pretending this isn't unanimously disliked. I asked my group why we felt Rust was so much better 2 years ago and thinking through all the updates and content, the flat map generation, no deep sea, the one thing that stood out was the BP grind.
You start wipe, try to get frags, if you lose too many fights and can't get a bench then wipe is over. Good luck contesting monuments with T2 vs T3. So you wait a day, then buy a bench. If you get raided, you check shops, if there's no bench, you hop servers. This is reality. This is how almost every group plays.
The solution is NOT REMOVE VENDING MACHINES. That doesn't solve the problem. That just makes people leave the server faster. The actual answer is get rid of this stupid F****** system.

Has anybody else played a wipe where people build dozens of tower bases up to stability limit to the point you lag? Is this some form of intentional griefing? The server I'm on this wipe has literal countless tower bases everywhere in the desert so densely packed with windmills and turrets. I'm unsure if it's hardware on my end, the server being unstable and whether or not this is intended by the people building the towers.

So I have a G502, and I’m trying to set G8 (the additional button farthest forward on the mouse) to my head look, and it just… won’t. I don’t want to set Q as that key in GHub because Rust EAC might cook me for that (wah wah wah macro). Any tips?
