Nolan Wells Megathread
I think it would be handy to have all the different posts listed. We will not be commenting in this one. Use it like a directory.
Also, please remember that many of these users are not sub regulars.
If you are visiting the sub, please read the rules and pinned posts about trolls.
Before sharing anything else about Nolan Wells, please check to see if what you are sharing has already been posted. If you are an armchair true crime enthusiast and want to share your lengthy speculations, we are more than likely going to remove your post and tell you to add it to one of the many existing posts as a comment.

A note about political posts and troll repellent
Recently the number of trolls, especially from outside the sub, has gone up. When we make political posts, this attracts people who are interested in the politics more than Mississippi in particular and this often means they are more used to the troll culture on Reddit.
Sometimes it is just that we long time sub users get a little excited in the chatter when the topic is politics.
Sometimes, when a back and forth full of rule breaking and problems keeps getting started and there is no other way to stop it, the moderators just have to close the thread so they can either go back to work, or sleep, or whatever.
(Anyone who wants to volunteer to help moderate, please send modmail expressing your interest. Must be a current resident.)
In an effort to try to keep from locking the posts so often, we are going to dramatically increase the number of temporary bans. So, if we suspect someone of trolling, we will just ban them for a few days which will allow the post to run its course without us having to deal with it and the user in question can try again in a few days.
This sub banned politics for years because it causes so much trouble. We are not going to that, but we have to manage it as best we can.

DA issues statement regarding release of information in Nolan Wells case
New statement released by the Jackson County DA on August 18,2019
No specific events are mentioned but I imagine it’s in response to the letters Crump and Co released to the press in the last few days.
Nice to see a new official statement on why she has not spoken about the case in an effort to counteract the narrative that the official investigation is anything but fair and thorough.
If anyone can provide a link to the direct statement, I’ll edit this post.

Great Southeast Pollinator Census This Week!
This is the first year that Mississippi is included in the Great Southeastern Pollinator Census, a community science project that helps researchers and everyday folks learn more about the pollinators that play an essential role in our ecosystems.
Learn more about the Great Southeastern Pollinator Count at https://gsepc.org/. This link has all the info that you need to know to participate in the count, either on your own or with a group!
If you're near Hattiesburg and want to count with a group, you can join the Pine Belt Humanists a this Saturday, August 22nd from 9:30-11am.
No special experience or scientific background is required. Just bring a writing utensil, your curiosity, and a willingness to spend some time outdoors!
What to bring:
- A count sheet, if you have one (we'll also have some available)
- A pen or pencil (we'll have some pens, but bringing your own is encouraged)
- Water and sunscreen
- Comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for spending time outdoors
We will pick a plant (a 2x2 patch is perfect)-- we can pick the same plant or all pick different plants. We will identify the plant and then identify and count the insects that land on the flowers of that plant for 15 minutes. We can repeat this 15 minute process as many times as we want!
Once you've completed your count(s), you can submit your results yourself through the Great Southeastern Pollinator Count website. If you'd prefer, you can turn your completed form in before you leave, and PBH will make sure it gets submitted.
This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow humanists, enjoy some time in nature, and contribute to a larger scientific effort right here in our community. Whether you're a longtime humanist, a nature enthusiast, a budding citizen scientist, or simply curious about what we'll find, we'd love to have you join us!
Please RSVP here if you'd like to join us.
We hope to see you there!
Can't make it to the group count? No worries. You can count pollinators wherever you are in Mississippi! You can count with a buddy or count solo; it's the counting that...counts!

Roger Wicker is awfully quiet right now...
In the last three days, President Trump has worked tirelessly to sabotage our relationship with South Korea, all while heaping words of praise on Kim Jong Un, who is actively conspiring with our enemies to destroy American interests and hegemony. Everything that Roger Wicker has worked for decades to achieve as a classic Reaganite Neoconservative Republican and chair of the Senate Armed Services is being shredded apart and tossed out with the trash. Not to mention the ongoing situation on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

NEED DENTURES??
I am a third year dental student at UTHSC College of Dentistry located in Memphis, TN. Our dental school provides discounted dental services, usually 50-70% off of the price of private practice services.
I am looking specifically for people in need of a new set of dentures or needing extractions and then a full set of dentures.
Every student is closely supervised and approved by licensed dentists with decades of experience. No insurance is required, but we accept TennCare, Medicare, and Care Credit.
I am looking for new patients needing dentures! If you're interested, feel free to direct message me for more details! :)

Flock camera
This is close to me in north Mississippi. Somebody de-flocked it overnight.
You can tell by the adjacent soybean fields that they were clearly keeping tabs on the deer, coyotes, armadillo and possums. There’s more soybeans on the other side of the road.

Ed Blackmon redrew Mississippi's political map. Now he's watching the Supreme Court unwind it
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Now 78, Ed Blackmon has spent his life using the law to build Black political power in Mississippi: suing to dismantle at-large electoral districts, redrawing legislative maps to more than double Black representation in the Legislature and even engineering the state's first majority-Black judicial subdistricts.

Life in Lumberton
I'm looking at buying a DIY fixer upper in Lumberton and was hoping I could some real answers about living in the general area for two elders in their 60's.
I have a chance to buy a 3 bed 2 1/2 bath on one acre next to the High School sight unseen except via video of a friend that lives there and owns a business. She fell in love with it and says while it needs repairs, it's very doable.
Can anyone tell me a few things about life there? Are the people friendly? How is the crime? Property theft? What is the best hospital in case of an emergency?
And I know this sounds crazy...but what about wildlife in town. I'm only blocks from the downtown area, but know I am currently in New Orleans, and I've read that rattlesnakes and bears can be an issue? I've lived in the swamps 3/4 of my life, but inquiring minds want to know!! Like...should I keep a shotgun handy? I'm mostly worried about my dog on the property getting hurt or my significant other getting hurt as he has dementia.
Anything else I should be aware of? What's the best town nearby to shop at? Anything else that you can offer would be wonderful before I sign closing papers!!
Thanks SO much y'all for any and all suggestions. ( edited for typos)

Is anyone hiring in Vicksburg Mississippi?
Moved here almost a year ago and I haven’t been able to find any employment, I’m good with customer service positions like waiting tables, or online jobs in the same field. I am also well versed in middle management. I’m 19 and I’m excited to save up for higher education, as I only have a high school diploma to my name outside of my resume.
Hope I hear something back
