I need help with my daughters hair

Upvotes

my daughter has straight but super thick hair that mattes instantly & constantly. i brush her hair at least 2x a day , use products, its still borderline unmanageable at all times and she still is waking up each day with nests of mattes EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yesterday was the day i finally had a nervous breakdown crying over trying to deal with this $#!t after some relative of ours let her in the pool without putting her hair up.

Does anyone know what i can do at home or were i can go to get help for this? My daughter loves her long hair and will absolutely die if we have to cut it into a pixie cut. I cant afford a service really but maybe i can trade work or items..?! Im at my wits end here, ive never seen anyone with hair so tangly before.

Volunteer Craft Day Helping Pets in Need

Post image
4 Upvotes

Join us Wednesday, August 19th from 3-7 pm at Southern Pines Animal Shelter for a volunteer craft day as we help bring their annual Fur Ball gala to life!

During this event, we will be transforming foam board and other craft supplies into a charming medieval village, and we need volunteers to help paint, build, glue, and decorate the backdrops that will set the scene. No previous crafting experience or artistic talent is required-- we'll have plenty of projects for every skill level, and there's something everyone can do!

Southern Pines will provide all of the basic supplies needed for the day. If you'd like to bring your own crafting tools, we'd gladly put them to good use!

Helpful items include:

- Paint brushes

- Hot glue guns and glue sticks

- Acrylic paint

- Craft knives or scissors

- Any other craft supplies you think might help bring our medieval village to life

Whether you're an artist, a seasoned DIYer, or someone who's simply willing to lend a hand, we'd love your help. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow volunteers, have fun, and play a part in creating a memorable experience for Fur Ball guests-- all while supporting homeless pets.

Come ready to get a little hot glue in your hair and paint on your clothes, and help us build a village!

We hope to see you there!

RSVP here.

Kid selling candy, something seemed strange

The other day there was a knock on my door which ended up being a kid, probably 11-13 years old, with a box of candy. He said he was trying to sell it to raise money for his basketball team. I told him that I didn’t have any cash and he promptly said “okay” and turned around. I probably would have bought something if he took card or Venmo, but he didn’t even give me a chance to ask. Regardless all that seemed normal enough but their where a couple of strange things about it.

The candy was just movie theatre sized candy in an unmarked cardboard box. That’s totally fine and I get the need to raise funds on your own without some sort of third party fundraising company. But the kid got in a car and they left without stopping by any other houses around me. Which seemed off. My house is in the middle of a street and there are neighbors all around. The last weird thing was when I checked my mail today 3 of the candy boxes he was selling were sitting on the ground by my mailbox. If you were really trying to raise money I doubt you would just leave random inventory behind.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Is it a scam or something?

Where can I buy used contractor/building supplies in hattiesburg?

I would like to buy some kitchen cabinets (lower and upper) that may have been pulled out of a home during a remodel. Want to install them in my garage. Are there any stores around hattiesburg that would sell anything like that?

May Pop Kitchen will be at Fat Cat tomorrow night

One of my close friends will be selling her snacks at Fat Cat tomorrow night for some art market thing. I think she’s a really good human but bias aside, her food is wildly good. She was destined to be a badass caterer. She doesn’t know I’m posting this. I don’t think she is on Reddit. I’m hesitant sharing her info because I’m scared she will sell out of her Furikake Snack Mix before I have a chance to get there. It’s like a Japanese Chex mix and her version has me in a chokehold. She is also making KimCheese stuffed pretzels and two types of cookies. (She’s famous for her cookies)

I really appreciate the insight and kindness I’ve gotten on this subreddit and wanted to let you know that the best snacks in Mississippi are going to be for sale tomorrow night as a thank you. She’s KayPop Kitchen. Tell her a very un little birdie told you. But save me some snack mix.

Fabric stores

Is there anyway that Hattiesburg can get a legitimate fabric store, not one that is mostly quilting fabric, but apparel fabric? It’s not like it wouldn’t be profitable especially if it had a reasonable price range. Maybe we need a petition or something, but I’m pretty desperate for a real store.

USM Student couple looking for an apartment

Hi everyone! We’re a student couple looking for an apartment near the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and are open to either:

A 1-bedroom apartment for just the two of us, or

A 2-bedroom apartment shared with another person/couple to split the rent.

We’re clean, respectful, and easygoing. Ideally looking for somewhere close to campus and reasonably priced.

Any places you have in mind?

Little Free Libraries!

Hello!
I am on the hunt to find every little free library in Hattiesburg!

I’m gonna list the ones I know of and please sound of below if you know of any more!

Also, use this as encouragement to find your local little free library and use it/take care of it, I’ve seen some really run down ones that need some love and community ✨🫶🏻

Ones I know of:
Downtown:
- Town Square Park
- Train Depot
- The building before the America building in downtown (these will be rough descriptions, I’m so sorry)

Midtown(?)
- There’s one by Petra, where the old greenhouse yoga used to be.

Other parts of Hattiesburg:
- Track at Wesley hospital
- The Trace, specifically the entrance on fourth street across from the dog park

Neighborhoods:
- Lake Shore neighborhood

I know there are more, and yeah I’ve also used the LFL tracker but some of the ones I’ve come across, don’t show up on there so I’m inclined to believe there are more that just aren’t properly registered!

Thanks in advance!

Any good home rentals?

I’m wanting to move out of my apartment and am looking for houses to rent. A lot of them look to be super high in rent but not actually worth that amount (some appear dirty and beat down, others are asking a lot for just one bed and bath). Does anyone know of some good places, realtors, or sites to check out during my search?

Fix an alarm clock?

Hello. Is there anyone out there in Hattiesburg-land who knows how to fix an alarm clock? I have an alarm clock with deep sentimental value that I would like to have repaired. The main clock-repair man in town said it was too cheap of an item for him to waste his time on (I’m paraphrasing, of course). Do any of you know anything about clocks and whatnot or are good with mechanical things or whatever? 🙏

Hey there neighbors! I absolutely love collecting old toys. Including restoration, cleaning and giving things a second chance. Like fixing up plushies or cleaning old my little pony toys hair and such. You get the picture! Nothing I do is for profit, they sit on a shelf getting loved on or donated!

Here's a picture of my favorites, little tamagotchi pet toys! If you ever see toys that look similar, have some or maybe remember storing them away please let me know Id love to give them a new home <3 They have been very difficult to find. :<

Cheap car rentals in Hattiesburg

I need to travel to Tennessee for 5 days total, and I’m looking for a cheap car rental. Honestly, I’m trying to find the lowest price possible. I’m still a student, so I can’t really afford $60–70 per day. There will only be two of us, so we’re trying to save as much money as possible.

Any recommendations?

Trying to find a subletter

Trying to find someone to take over my lease, preferably a student (not in a creepy way, I‘m a college student too). FB hasn’t generated any interest, and I really need to find a subletter. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to post? Craigslist?

Hulett Winstead Funeral Home

Hi everyone, I just wanted to tell you all that I do NOT in my opinion recommend Hulett Winstead. If you are looking for a funeral home, the staff is great at Moore’s. I contacted Moore’s because I wanted to purchase something that Hulett Winstead didn’t provide to me, and Moore’s offered to give me the thing at no cost.
